Is the portal "dead"? What comes after EP 6.0? Rumours...

In the last weeks I have heard quite a few times from other customers and also from more or less "internals" that there will be no new development on the Portal side.
I´m aware that EP 6.0 is supported until the end of the maintenance of NW 7.0, I´m also aware, that there will be an enhancement package (or more than one) until then but I think that question is still valid.
Minor improvements are made with each SP (or now enhX), so I see progress but I doubt seriously, that the EP 6.0 enhX will be followed by an EP 7.0 (or whatever it is called then).
I am wondering because
- there is no active development towards J2EE 5.0 (or higher) in the EP area (at least I´m not aware of any), Java 1.4.2 is completely EOL´ed at the end of the current month; as of today you won´t be able to use an operating system such as Windows 2008 to run a portal.
- there is no "preview" of any newer technology covering EP functionality as is there for other middleware products (e. g. PI 7.1)
- I "heard", that the applications framework (or better said: the Netweaver base (enhX)) will handle in some version the inter-system data passing themselves, without the need of a portal in the middle that takes the data from system A and pass it to an application running against backend system B.
It´d be very nice if someone could comment on that, is that all misinformation and/or false conclusions?

Good thing is the Portal is now heading towards becoming a collaboration portal with Web 2.0 elements like Blogs, Wikis, Forums etc. SAP would be partnering with Jive software to deliver this functionality.
You can have that today too - if you want to - without the need of deploying complex J2EE engines. It´s a nice-to-have but it doesn´t give any real business value. We didn´t gain a single u20AC more since we deployed the portal (if we focus on the "usage" of it) and Wikis won´t change that (not in our business - manufacturing). There are things like "public directories" in Exchange or even simpler shared filesystem directories that are much easier to handle and maintain as a Wiki, from a technical as well as a from a usage type of view. I appreciate that but for us it´s not of any use.
That's probably the biggest move SAP is making in the portal space. As far as your question of whether its dead, I don't think so as it would continue to be the strategic platform for Web delivered solutions.
If that is true, where is the roadmap? I heard a lot of people saying that exactly this is not true and this was the intention of creating this thread. You can get roadmaps for ERP enhancement packages, you get them for BI, for PI, for CRM and for SRM - where´s the portal?
Business Client is promising but definitely won't displace the Portal space. I think the goal of Business Client is to deliver more rich applications as its a client side install giving and gives an opportunity to leverage some client computing power.
What I have seen it´s more (as of now) a nice guide procedure frontend. Seriously, if I would take away e. g. the VA01 of our sales people (where most of them work with SAP and VA01 for 10+ years) and tell them to use NWBC instead, they would instantly kill me.

What comes after ISA

We're currently running ISA 2003. It does the job very well, but I'm aware we probably need to upgrade to one of the latest products. MS seem to have done their usual trick of confusing their product range. I understand that Unified Access Gateway 2010 is
the current model is this correct? And if so, is there anything else on the horizon that we should be waiting for?
We really use the system as a firewall for our network, proxy web services for users, VPN and virtual networks. We are looking at a new IP based telephone system that runs over VOIP lines and I assume this would support this functionality?
Can some also provide any resource sites to better understand it's functionality?

We're currently running ISA 2003.
There is no product known as ISA 2003, so I'm not really sure what you're running.
ISA Server 2004 Standard Edition (with SP2) is supported until October, 2014.
In October, 2006, Microsoft released ISA Server 2006, which is the first upgrade you should consider. It's functionally a drop-in replacement for ISA Server 2004. (Backup the config file, install ISA2006, restore the config file.) ISA Server 2006 is supported
until January, 2017.
As Vadims mentions, there is an additional generation of this product line, known as
Forefront Threat Management Gateway 2010, which was released in December, 2009. While it's true that the product has been "discontinued", what that means is that there won't be any *NEW* versions of the product released. It's still available, and is in
Mainstream Support until April, 2015, and Extended Support until April, 2020. If you're not ready to switch vendors, migrating to TMG2010 (and skipping ISA2006) is still an effective plan.
Beyond that, you've got about six years to identify an alternate firewall vendor. :-)

I bought a one year subscribtion of CC through surfspot.nl because I am a teacher at NCOI, a large education institute in the Netherlands. What happens after the one year period? Do I have to renew through surfspot.nl? How do I keep my subscription and how much is it going to cost?

TOC which account for what comes before it

I'm trying to create a TOC (Table of Contents) which can also account for what comes BEFORE it. (And not only the sections which follow it).Anyone has an idea?

Pages TOC will only index what comes after it.
You could perhaps add any prior items manually.

Is there a way to get the details for each hit in the portal database WCR_WEBCONTENTSTAT?

I need to get the details for each user hit.
Apparently, this table has the IMPRESSIONS column which returns the total number of hitcounts and VISITS which counts the number of unique user who accesses the portal. What I am trying to look for is to get all the details per hitcount. I need to find out how many time a specific user accessed a specific page or iview.
I also used the table WCR_USERPAGEUSAGE, which I get the information of the users counted in the VISITS column in the first table.
I could not get the specific user per hit.
Please enlighten me if this is possible and how to do this?

Why not use the portal activity report iView?
In the portal activity report iView the 3rd option allows you to choose a page for example and see
the user who accessed it and how many times.

 Following is the steps for debugging the portal application.
Steps for Debugging
1. Stop the Portal Server if Running.

2. Launch the Config tool of J2EE Engine & Set Up the debugging of the current instance.
 The Config tool is located in the directory ,
<J2EE-Install-Dir>\JC00\j2ee\configtool\configtool.bat
 Switch to the current instance & go to the debug tab.
 Set Enable Debug Mode checked, start the VM of J2EE in debug mode.
 Set a valid debug port, default port is 50021.
 Save the settings and restart the J2EE Engine.
3. Restart the Portal Server.
4. Open SAP Netweaver Developer Studio. Go to Window --- > Open Perspective --- > Enterprise Portal & also open the Debug perspective.
 This enables you to develop & deploy EP Components to your development Portal.
5. Configure Development Environment for Debugging.
 Create new Remote Java Application debug settings.
 Pressing the debug button attaches the SAP Netweaver Developer Studio to the Specified portal installation.
 Go to Debug --- > Remote Java Application & create a new setting for your current Portal Application Project.
 Insert the portals DNS or IP Address and the debug port specified in the Config tool, default port is 50021.
 If the portal runs on the local machine you can enter localhost instead of IP address or DNS name.
 Make sure that your Portal Application is already deployed in the portal.
6. If the connection is attached to the J2EE engines VM session, the SAP Netweaver Studio is ready to debug.
BREAKPOINTS
A Breakpoint causes the execution of a program thread to suspend at the location here the breakpoint is set.
7. Set a breakpoint in your custom coding. The debugger will stop if the VM reaches this marked code line.
To enable the breakpoint,
 Locate the breakpoint in the marker bar of an editor.
 Open the breakpoints context menu & select Enable Breakpoint.
 The breakpoint image will change back to a blue circle.
VARIABLE VIEW
The variables view contains information about the variables in the currently-selected stack frame.
8. To Launch the Variables View :,
Choose Window -- > Show View -- > Other -- > Select Debug -- > Variables View.
9. Force the Portal to execute your deployed coding. The VM stops at the specified break point.
10. The current values of the member variables can be tracked in the Variables window of SAP Netweaver Developer Studio.

The JCR adpater can be configured against Oracle Content Server(UCM), file system and Oracle Portal. This gives you only the read feature on the repository. However the web center frame work also provides you the Document Library Task flows with both Read/Write capabilities and other capabilities like recent documents, search etc. The task flows can also customized to suit your UI requirements as well. In addition to this there is a content presenter Task flow available where Business Users can display formatted content from UCM on web center page. This is similar to the content presenter portlet available inside WLP.

Portal Run time error after changing the logon screen

Hi all,
I am running an EP7 SP08 and I try to change the logon screen as described on:

I copied the 'com.sap.portal.runtime.logon.par.bak' file, renamed it to 'my.new.logon.par'. after that I extracted the file with winzip. I opened the directory 'PORTAL-INF\lib\' and there I extracted the file 'umelogonbase.jar' with winrar. I opened the file 'logonLabels_en.properties' and changed the entry 'xtit_WELCOME=Welcome' to 'xtit_WELCOME=blablabla'.
I repacked the umelogonbase.jar with winrar again and after that I repacked the 'my.new.logon.par' with winzip again.
Then I placed the par file back at '<J2EE_Engine_Instance>\j2ee\cluster\server<X>\apps\sap.com\irj\servlet_jsp\irj\root\WEB-INF\deployment\pcd' and changed the authscheme.xml with the new par file and changed the 'login.authschemes.definition.file' all described on the help.sap.com url mentioned above.
However, when I restart the portal and open the logon screen I see the error message:
Portal Runtime Error
An exception occurred while processing a request for :
iView : N/A
Component Name : N/A
The exception was logged. Inform your system administrator..
See the details for the exception ID in the log file
The default trace shows the following message:
An error occured during authscheme computation.
[EXCEPTION]
com.sapportals.portal.prt.component.PortalComponentException: Error in init method
Component : my.new.logon.certlogon
Is there anyone who knows what goes wrong? The description on help.sap.com is very straightforward but still it doesn't work for me...

Check if you did the following steps pertaining to the authschemes.xml file:
--> Download the authschemes.xml to local drive. Rename the file to,say, authschemes_new.xml
--> In authschemes_new.xml, did you change all entries of com.sap.portal.runtime.logon with the name of modified logon par file?
-->Upload the authschemes_new.xml file using configtool; and, change the property login.authschemes.definition.file to authschemes_new.xml in configtool.
-->Finally,restart your portal. Hope it helps.
