Is the PRINT quality of Aperture's RAW different than Photoshop's?

I've seen various comments suggesting that Aperture doesn't handle raw files as well as photoshop. Is this just a screen issue or it is also a print quality issue?

Depends on how Aperture is handling this. The
preferred internal rendering intent is used in ICC
applications that don’t specify a conversion. And you
can easily change this tag.
How, where? I'd LOVE to know.
IF Aperture actually
tells it’s conversion engine “Use Relative
Colorimetric”, that’s what you get.
I'm pretty sure it does, but I'd still like to know if you think there's a way to change this, and run some test prints. I can match aperture's prints exactly by setting the rendering intent in PShop to rel. colorimetric. Sadly, for most of the good art papers, the shadow quality is much better using a perceptual intent, so that means printing through photoshop right now.
At least in Photoshop (and I’d assume Aperture), soft
proofs are always Relative Colorimetric with black
point compensation. So the soft proof should be OK.
Not true, at least in CS2. You set the rendering intent for soft proofing under Proof setup.

I have a HP Deskjet 3510 and it wants to print only in black and white.
The Print Quality Report is fine and in color.
Is there a color button I am missing?

In the Print & Scan system preferences, does it indicate it is using a generic printer driver or a Gutenprint driver?
Also, if you click on Options & Supplies, you might want to check and see if has to be enabled. That kind of sounds odd though.
Another thing is it might not be showing. If the bottom of the print dialog has a button that says "Show Details," click it. Then, you can change settings in the popup menu.

  • How can I change the print quality on a HP 6700 to draft (lowest quality) on a Mac OS X 10.9.3?

    Hi,
I've tried many places to try to find where I can change the print quality (HP 6700).  I don't want it to use so much ink, so want to put it at the lowest quality.  I tried using the settings icon and the arrows on the front of the printer, and other options listed here.  Nothing has worked.
    Thanks,

  • How to improve the printing quality of pictures, printing a database layout

I have a database that contains also pictures in multimedia containers. If I print a layout containing a picture, the quality of the picture is really bad! Pixeled with big pixels.
Is there a possibility to get better prints?
The pictures are JPEGs of reasonable size.
The picture in the layout on the screen looks MUCH better.
Printing to an PDF and viewing this on the screen is equally bad.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

I'm guessing that your images are JPEGs. AppleWorks changes the resolution of all graphic formats except PICT to 72 dpi. There are a couple of things you can do improve the print quality of images.
    1. Turn on Fractional Character widths in Preferences > General > Topic: Text. This is a text setting, but it does improve the print quality of images.
    2. Open the image in Preview or GraphicConverter & Save As... a PICT to use in AppleWorks.
PICT is generally the best format to use for inserting or pasting into AppleWorks. I find the resulting graphic can be resized somewhat & the resulting saved AW file is much smaller than if using JPEG or TIFF.

  • Why is the contents of Safari's downloads folder different than the actual folder?

Why is the contents of Safari's downloads folder different than the actual folder that resides in my users folder?

Problem is if I delete that .plist I'll delete those downloads.  I'm still able to launch those downloads from that location so that tells that file is probably not corrupted. I need to be able to located that folder and transfer the downloads from it before I do anything like this.  So that begs the question, where is that folder located?  When I do a folder search I'm taken to a Downloads folder, but it's not the one that is showing up from within Safari as it's contents are too different.

  • Print quality in Aperture 3 and layout export

I searched, but did not find recent information on print quality of books ordered through Aperture 3.
    So, my questions are:
    1. How is the quality of the books ordered through Aperture 3? Few years ago I heard that the pictures are a bit darken. Is this the case with recent books? I plan to order a hardcover large.
    2. The book will have the maximum of 100 pages (309 photos), and it's difficult for me to arrange the pictures in Aperture. I'm thinking to print the layout of the book and then to decide which picture goes where.
I entered some dummy text in the text fileds, so I can see it on my draft print. I would like to see on the print also the placements for pictures, but without adding pictures (it would be a waste of ink if I keep the pictures). Is possible to have a complete layout export of such a book?
    Thanks

    Hi
You can store as high quality as You like on a Data-DVD - to be used on another computer - BUT if You want it to be playable on any standard DVD-Player then You have to do a Video-DVD and they are as standard only SDef-video AND interlaced.
So feeding iDVD, Roxio Toast™ or DVD-Studio Pro
    • HD material results in down-scaling and neither of them give better result (rather worse) than if they are feed SD-video from start
    • Progressive material as 1080p - as Video-DVD is as standard interlaced video result will be omitting every second line and following quality loss.
I create my SlideShows in iMovie HD6 or FinalCut as they downscale while keeping quality and they can transport interlaced video over to iDVD without more quality loss.
iMovie'08 to 11 can not do this any way known by me.

  • Print quality with Aperture and Epson RX580

    Hi all,
I feel like I've tried everything, but I just can't get Aperture (the latest version with all the updates) to print from my MacBook Pro on my Epson photo printer the way I could from other photo software on my old PCs.  On my old PCs, when I would print a photo from Canon DPP or Capture One, or even the Windows photo management software, I get a rich menu of dialogue boxes for the Epson printer offering different qualities of prints, different papers to choose from, "photo enhancement," and lots of other options.  Prints came out sharp, colorful, and just great.
When I print from Aperture, I get none of these options (I get color management and resolution, and that's about it).
When I print from Aperture, I get vertical lines in the prints, visible dots, and pixellation.  So what I do is email the "exported" versions to my daughter's PC laptop and print from there -- and get good results.  Boy, that's a pain.
Surely Aperture can do better than this.  So what am I missing?  Any ideas for what I should be doing?
    Thank you.

Canon MP990 and Macbook pro (os X snow lep.. and Lion) - Lines in prints in Aperture.
While a bit vague I got there and found the distinction between the printer driver managing it and the printer managing the photo quality causing the issues.
I could only transfer the pic's to iphoto and print for ( admitedly about the same time of more than a year).
    The FIX
in the first window after selecting print scroll down to rendering and select printer managed.
Select all the other settings you need then select print on the right bottom of this window.
This next dialogue box at the bottom is a show details button then a new set of menus are present (initial is layout in a pull down menu)  select color matching then automatic ( you can change this but it worked so if it is not broken I'll play later ).
You should have clear prints with no lines...

  • Message USB002 "The print quality may deteriorate"

I do a lot of draft printing.   I have set the properties for my MG2520 to Black,  the minimum quality.
Everytime I print I get this warning about quality and the pages won't print until I acknowledge and click OK.
And to make it worse the message sometimes shows up on a computer other then the one I am using for printing.  So I'm sitting there fat dumb and happy thinking my printing is happening when in fact the printer is waiting for someone on this other computer to "OK'.
Is there a way to eliminate this message without switching to high quality printing?
    Thanks

There are alterate drivers in OS X for each of those printers. Try Generic PCL 6 for the HP and the Gutenprint driver for the Epson. - in other words, add the printer again, but select the alternate driver.

  • Envy 7640 won't print anything except the print quality diagnostic

I'm trying to get a new Envy 7640 installed and working from my desktop running XP SP3.  I have it wirelessly connected to my home network and all machines can see the printer.  If I launch the HP Printer Assistant and print the quality diagnostic page, it works fine.  If I try and print a test page from Windows (or print anything else), it spools for a couple seconds, then the print job disappears.  My wireless laptop (MacBook Pro) can print just fine.
    I've already tried the following:
    Reboot the computer
    Power cycle the printer
Uninstall/reinstall the print driver in Windows
Connect the printer directly to the desktop via a USB cable (same result as trying to use it networked)
    Restarted the print spooler service
Disabled print spooling for the printer via the Advanced tab of the Printer Properties
Manually created my own TCP/IP port and configured the printer to use it
I'm at my wit's end here.  What else can I try?  Has anyone else experienced something like this?

The difference is a Windows print job goes through the spooler, and the situation you are describing, sounds very much like the spooler is corruppted or not working.
You can also try manually clean the spooler,  this page may be helpful on what is the spooler and how to clean the spooler: http://www.techienewsnetwork.com/fixing-or-cleaning-the-problematic-windows-print-spooler/

    hi,
first check whether the printer settings are able to identify the barcodes in SAP.coz then need to be explicitly configured so as to recognise them.

    Who do I complain to?

I followed your advice. It took a couple of contacts before I was connected to the right group. They were able to look at the original downloaded file on-line to confirm the problem wasn't with my file. My order is being reprocessed and a new book will be shipped in a few days.

  • The printer page size setting is not working in Photoshop 5.1 with Xerox printer

I am attempting to print an output size larger than 8.5 x 11 and Photoshop will not change the size even though the printer setting is now at the larger size.  Illustrator and other programs will print but but Photoshop fails.  This is an issue in both the 32 and 64 bit versions.  Help!

I found the following on the Xerox site...tip of the hat to T Robinson:
Re: Photoshop CS6 on Win 7x64 prints only letter size on Workcentre 7655
    03-20-2013 12:28 PM
We have a Xerox WorkCentre 7435 PCL6, and I have been having a similar problem. I found a workaround in Photoshop CS5, which I will describe in case it is helpful to others. I just upgraded to Photoshop CS6 however, and the workaround no longer works with it. Instead I get an error message if I print a Job History Report. The message is partially cut off at the right margin of the page, but the part I can read says, "Completed with error(016-799): Print Instructi...on Fail detected in Decomposer." (The ellipsis indicates the part of the message that is cut off. What follows it appears on the next line down. I downloaded all updates to CS6 to see if that would help, but it did not.
Here is the workaround that worked for me on CS5:
    1) Click on "Print Settings" in the Print dialog
    2) On the pulldown Paper menu, select "Advanced Paper Selection"
    3) Select the tray where your tabloid (or legal) sized paper is loaded
    4) Click on the button at the right end of the "Paper Size" field to display the Paper Size dialog.
    5) Click on the down arrow button at the right end of the "Original Document Size" field and select "Tabloid" (or "Legal") from the menu.
    6) Click OK to close each of the open dialogs til you get back to the Print dialog and then print your document. The print preview should update to show you a preview reflecting the selected paper size. (This may take a few seconds to happen.)
This worked for me in CS5. Unfortunately, as noted above, it does not seem to work in CS6. The only workaround I can come up with for CS6 is to save the file as a PDF and then print it from Acrobat. This works without a problem, but it's a lot of trouble to go to every time I have to print something other than letter size.
If anyone finds a better workaround in CS6, please let me know.

  • The printer and computer are connected to different routers?? But they're certainly not

Failed connecting my printer to the network. I keep power cycling, re-installing. This is where I get stuck. My IP: 192.168.1.5Printer: 192.168.1.6 (status connected) Router network test settings look good (attached). It's connected to the internet via my router. I can even print wirelessly if I email to my hpeprint address. What is happening?

There are a few things I would suggest:  first let's assign a fixed IP address to the printer just so it does not move around and cause issues.  Solution two of the document here has information on setting a static IP address. With the fixed IP address set it may also be good to disable IPV6 unless you are actually using IPV6.  To do this go to the printer's web page in your browser,  click the Network tab, then select General, Network Protocols on the left side.  Click "Enable IPV4 only", Apply.  While there you may want to check the firewall settings - unless you need to have the printer's firewall enabled (uncommon if it is a home network) I would suggest unchecking the "Enable Firewall" checkbox, Apply. At this point let's print a network status page from the printer just for later reference. Back at the PC I would suggest downloading the printer driver from HP here.  I would suggest running "Download and Install Assistant" option.  When given the choice select "The printer is already connected to the wireless network".

  • How do I maintain print quality resolution when using both Lightroom and Photoshop?

I usually edit only in LIghtroom, but in this recent photoshoot, the woman's skirt lining was peeking out and I need to photoshop it out.  When I try to do this and save it in Photoshop, the file size drops dramatically and I'm guessing the picture quality.  I also tried to right-click on the picture in Lightroom and choose "Edit in" photoshop, but Photoshop told me I couldn't use the clone tool unless I changed from 16 bit color depth to 8 bit because it had limited support for 16 bit.  I know there has to be a way to do this.  Any ideas?  By the way, I am using LIghtroom 3.6 and an old Photoshop Elements 5.0.

I am not completely convinced that your Premiere Elements 7 project settings are not at the core of your problems.
    1. You say that you have 1280 x 720 at X progressive frames per second (probably .mov) from a Canon camera and presumed 1920 x 1080 16:9 .mts @ 29.97 interlaced frames per second (aka 60i). What are you setting as the project preset in the new project dialog? Are you just OK'd it and accepting the default which would be NTSC DV Standard (720 x 480)?
    2. As for versions 11 and 12 helping you out with an automatic project preset, sometimes it does it OK and sometimes it does not. So, that feature is not a given cure all for an inappropriate project preset. Whatever the Premiere Elements version, you need to know the properties of your source media and set the project preset accordingly or make sure the program is doing it right. And, when you have a Timeline with a mixed of formats, you need to set priorities.
Is the .mov and .mts both affected by the issue or just one?
    Three things to look at:
    a. The quality of just the 1280 x 720 in a Premiere Elements 7 project set for
    NTSC
    HDV
    HDV 720p30
    b. The quality of just the1920 x 1080 in a Premiere Elements 7 project set for
    NTSC
    AVCHD
    Full HD 1080p30
    c. Then look at the quality of both brought into a Premiere Elements 7 project set for
    NTSC
    AVCHD
    Full HD 1080p30
Please consider. And, if you decide to check out the above, please let us know the outcome.
    Thank you.
