Is the recording Audio function turned of in Captivate demo version?

Hi,
My name is Steve. I am currently developing E-Learning Curriculum. To begin with I am looking to capture the lecture through Adobe Captivate. I need to capture a video recording of everything that is taking place on the screen, as well as capture the lecturer talking whilst going through the powerpoint slide for example.
Before purchasing Adobe Captivate I have downloaded the trial version. I can capture the screen video but can not capture the audio. I have been running it in Adminstrator mode too which I thought would overcome the problem. I am only using the microphone built into my laptop.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to why this may not be working?
Thanks
Steve

Hi there
From what you have posted, I'm going to say Captivate isn't what you want. It sounds like you are wanting to capture a very long presentation using full motion capture. Captivate has made progress in this area, but I'd be surprised if you found it to be acceptable for doing this. Don't get me wrong, Captivate is an awesome tool for what it does. But full motion isn't it!
You might consider TechSmith Camtasia Studio if that's what you are trying to do. If you do this, don't be surprised to discover that even Camtasia Studio isn't able to capture the audio. It's because of a limitation of some sound cards. That's why something called FreeCorder Toolbar was invented.
Click here to visit the FreeCorder site
You would then use FreeCorder to capture the audio while the other application captures the video. Then you would import the resulting audio into the other application and synch it up.
Cheers... Rick

  • Can editors using Mountain Lion check the Device Input Gain slider in the Record Audio tool is working?

Please see this thread for full details.
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/21134725#21134725
It appears that for some people, upgrading to Mountain Lion 10.8.2 kills the Device Input Gain slider functionality in the Record Audio tool.
    Could you post your findings?

Thanks Luis, it looks as though it is quite widespread, if not universal.
As you can see in the link above, booting back into Snow Leopard 10.6.8 completely restores the functionality for me, so it looks as though it's ML that kills it.
    I've sent a feedback to FCP X.

  • Where did the "record audio from speakerphone" option go in Connect 8??

When I went to start a recording today in Connect 8, I noticed that the "record audio  from speakerphone" option is missing on the pop-up where you enter your  recording name and description.  Where did this option go?  This is how  we record all of our meetings where we do not have integrated audio  (usually due to using an operator assisted line.)  I did double-check my flash settings and made sure the meeting had access to the microphone.

Connect 8 records all audio from the Phone if that was used, or VOIP or via Universal Voice. It picks up all audio in the meeting.
If you have associated a universal voice audio profile with the meeting, choose Audio > Join Audio Conference.
    Choose Meeting > Record Meeting.
In the Record Meeting dialog box, enter a name and summary for the meeting recording.
A recording icon (red circle) appears in the menu bar to indicate that the meeting is being recorded.

  • Any change in the record path function in 8.02?

Can you actually name the record path in 8.02 like we could in 7? Or is it still the same auto-name from track name nonsense that we have in 8.01? I saw no mention of it in the list from apple, but was hoping maybe they just left it off the list. I had to search for a misplaced file today and had to try to sort out 64 audiofiles that were called "Vince Ld Vx" from four different songs. I eventually was able to match the creation times with the hours I worked on the right song, but what a nightmare!

Nope. They have not fixed it.
I'm not sure they realize they need to fix it. But it's drivin me nuts the same way it apparently bothers you. Such a simple function, I can't believe they messed it up.
Please - if any others out there are annoyed by the fact that file naming is so poorly implemented in L8, - leave more feedback for Apple. MAYBE they'll listen next time around...
At the very least, it'd be nice if it worked like Final Cut Pro, which allows you to set a prefix for new files, so you can identify which project/song all your "lead guitar" tracks belong to.
    Grr.

  • Are plug-ins applied in the recorded audio file with GB2?

I have a very basic question and I think I know the answer but I just want to have a confirmation. I am using the ChannelStrip plug-in from Metric Halo, which is great by the way, I am wondering if the process is applied directly in the audio file when I am recording a track or if it will only be when I export the track to iTunes? For example when you process a file with a software like PEAK you must indicate that you want the plug in to be applied to the audio file unless it will leave the original audio file unchanged.
    Thanks in advance!

If I can remember rightly, a sound recordist friend of mine had one of these units and there was a problem importing the audio from it into pro-tools and avid. I do remember though it was a firmware update that eventually fixed it.
Also does this thing record dual stereo channels onto one .wav file, or two seperate .wavs?

  • I started making a movie in the new imovie '10.  I opened up the project and can not record any new audio.  All the recorded audio and music isn't playing.  I can't figure out what's going on, I teach a flipped classroom and need to get these videos done!

I am not sure what is going on, but I need help ASAP!

soon as you start up the computer, keep hitting the F1 key.  That should get you into the BIOS.
Also, try disabling Active System Protection for your freezing issues.  I'm using XP so  I don't know where to tell you to find it in Vista.

  • Problem with the preview of recorded audio

Hi lads! I'm running Logic 8 in my iMac, with a RME Fireface400 interface (connected through a Lacie external firewire hard disk), and I have a small problem.....
I'm trying to record audio using my audio interface. I can record audio into Logic with no problem, everthing works fine, but the recorded audio part just looks empty in Logic! It is really recorded, and it sounds, but it just look like an empty audio part.
If i close the project and I re-open it, the audio is prevosialized and it looks fine.
I know it is a small deal, but it can be very annoying! This thing happens since I bought the RME, but....it really looks like a Logic issue....
Is there any option like "auto preview recorded audio" in Logic? Does anybody know how to solve this little issue?
    Thanks!

So what you are saying is that no overwiew of the waveform has been drawn? And that it has been drawn when you reload the song?
Open the region with the audio file in the *Sample Editor*, and choose *Refresh Overview(s)* from the *Audio File* menu in the Sample Editor.
    regards, Erik.

  • How to disable the new Bluetooth Audio function?

After updating to OS 3.0 i have an annoying problem with my iPhone connected to a Kenwood car radio (via USB in the glove box):
    1. Connect iPhone with car radio via USB
    2. Turnin on the radio - now it starts playing songs from the iPhone
    3. Now the iPhone connects via Bluetooth to the radio (for use of the handsfree set!)
    4. The addressbook is downloaded by the radio via the Bluetooth connection
Till there it worked fine under OS 2.2.1 - i was able to listen to the iPod and to make/receive calls! But now there's step 5:
    5. The Bluetooth Audio function is activated - and i can hear no more sound although the playback of the song is resumed!
There's a workaround for this issue: I can tap on the iPod-Icon on the iPhone which says that the iPhone is connected to an equipment. There i can tap on a bluetooth icon in the lower right corner in which i can select the device for audio output: Bluetooth or Dock.
This is really annoying (even more due to the bad qualitiy of the bluetooth audio), so where can i disable this new "feature"?!

I too am having this problem. It seems as though I also have to unplug and re-plugin my iPhone dock connector to make it switch to the USB output I need for my JVC KD-R800 receiver in my car. I can't seem to find a way to permanently disable A2DP functionality on either my iPhone or my Car's audio receiver.
We really do need some sort of option to either disable A2DP altogether or setup a "priority" list of items. Personally, I'd love to have the iPhone output in an order something like the following:
    1st - Dock Connector (USB)
    2nd - Bluetooth A2DP
    3rd - Headphones / iPhone Speaker
Hopefully someone find out of a permanent workaround or solution soon. I just got this new receiver for my car and it messes everything up!

  • Record audio is not working

Does anyone know why when I open up the "Record Audio" button why it would not be recording?  The audio box appears but there is no sound.  It was working but now..... it has stopped and could use some advice.  Thanks.

The fact that it also fails in iMovie suggests that this is probably not a problem with FCP X.
That leaves either a hardware failure or a software conflict.
You can check whether the microphone itself is functional by testing in System Preferences->Sound directly.
Open the input panel and speak into the microphone. As you speak, you should get some visual feedback like in the picture below. Do you get some bars or does it stay the same all the time?

  • Cannot adjust record audio level with I-Mic as audio in

    Hi,
I would like to record audio from my stereo through my Griffin Technologies I-Mic connection using Audacity audio software. I cannot adjust input recording audio down even though I have completely turned off the input audio on Audicity. The recording audio is pegging red and the recorded playback audio is completely overmodulated. The audicity help techs believe the problem lies with my sound card, which happens to be the Sound Blaster 24 bit.
Months ago, I was able to do it, but this time around had no success. Is there something that I can click on the soundblaster that will allow audicity to properly adjust the input audio?
    Karl

Wow, here I go again.....  I found out how I locked up the audio track of my video file.
After I re-imported my original video recording, and had adjusted the volume level, I had to expand my video image to fill my "canvas".  When I went to transform this layer, I was told I must first convert this to a smart object.  As soon as I did that, the track turned from blue to purple!
I would hope that if I edit my original video track in such a simple way, that I would NOT loose access to adjusting the volume of my video track......  But that is the odd way that this works.............

  • Need help recording audio since upgrading to Captivate 5.5

I've been using Captivate for several years so I've become accustomed to recording vloiceovers for the slides in my projects. Over the year, the UI for the audio recording function had improved to the point where it worked quite well (v4.0).
Since upgrading to v5.5 this week, I've discovered some major (and welcome) improvements in the product. However, when I clicked the Record Audio icon, I was dismayed with the design of the new UI for this function.
Unless I am missing something, the new design has you open two modal dialog boxes in order to record audio for a selected slide, then Save and close both dialog boxes before you can select the next slide.
Please tell me I missed the place where you can view the slide note, record audio for the slide, then move to the next slide in a smooth (non-modal) movement as you could in v4.0.

Today I upgraded to v5.5 and I add a lot of audio slide by slide, from my slide notes.
I was looking forward to "new and improved" Captivate v5.5, but having seen the way Adobe have set up the recording to slide in v5.5 (and reading this thread) I am now already (less than 1 day into v5.5) regretting having had to pay for an upgrade only to find this area is worse than v4 and the fix will be in a future upgrade that I am expected to pay for again.
This does not bode well for the rest of v5.5 as far as I am concerned.

  • Recorded audio ahead of physical recording

Hey guys. So this weekend we were in the studio working on a new song. I'm having a problem when recording audio. I noticed it when we started laying down an acoustic track. The acoustic is stereo mic'd and I'm recording on 2 separate mono tracks. I have low latency mode turned on and I hear no latency at all through the headphones. After I record the track (spot on with the drums), we play it back and the track is rushed. I have to nudge the tracks right about 6 times to get it lined up to where it was actually played. The same goes for every track I recorded, even to the point where I had to use flex time to line the lead tracks up properly. I know for a fact I didn't play it rushed like this.
In my preferences, it shows a round trip latency of 17.7 ms and the sample delay slider is set to -646 by default. I have a Presonus FP10 that I'm using. I have no effects turned on for the recorded track (minus POD Farm for the electric tracks). This happens all the time, Logic is moving the recorded audio forward in time. I have to fix this, because we'll be laying down bass and vocals this week. There are very few other plug ins running in the session (and this is all the sessions too). The only bus is a drum bus using a compressor with a 2:1 compression set. The only reverbs are on the overheads and high hat tracks.
Why is Logic shifting my recorded audio forward?

    gnogtr wrote:
the sample delay slider is set to -646 by default.
Do you mean the recording delay slider? If so, I suspect that's why your tracks are playing back early. The default value should be zero unless the Presonus driver is reporting the delay to Logic and Logic, in response, is setting that value to -646. But as far as I'm aware, Logic doesn't even do that.
    Try this test:
    • start with a blank song with no plugins anywhere, PDC set to OFF, and software monitoring set to off (_don't leave any of those steps out_)
    • set the recording delay slider to zero
    • take a track (something that has drums or distinct rhythm to it) and place it on track 1, bar 2 (yes, bar 2)
    • take patch cords and physically connect the stereo output of the interface back into inputs 1 and 2. No, you won't blow anything up by doing this.
    • create a new audio track, assign it to inputs 1/2 and put it into record-ready
    • go into record and record about 10 or 20 seconds of the track from bar 1
    • take the track out of record and play back both tracks.
At this point, do they sound like they're flamming or flanging? Or do they sound tight playing together? If they sound tight then your basic problem was that recording delay setting of -646.
This doesn't mean you're out of the woods yet, but the test I outlined above will put you on the right track.

  • Problem with audio quality using Record Audio Comment

I am recording audio comments in Adobe Acrobat Professional using the "Record Audio Comment" tool. The sound quality is bad--very scratchy and has a noisy hum. I am using a good USB headset/microphone. Recordings outside of Acrobat are fine, e.g., in Audacity. I have tried two different microphones with both Acrobat 8 and 9 on two different computers (a desktop and a laptop) with similar results.
I have not found an audio quality setting in Acrobat. Is there some way to improve the audio quality when recording comments? I suspect Acrobat is compressing the audio so much in order to save file size, however, the poor quality makes it almost unusable.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions or advice. I know I can record outside of Acrobat and then add the pre-recorded audio as a comment, but that defeats the purpose.

Sorry to hear you are having problems.
A few things you can try:
    1. Turning the volume of your TV up too high during a call can cause the kinds of audio problem you describe. Try turning the TV volume down and this should stop the 'feedback' problems you are having.
    2. If you are using external speakers, then try switching these off and using the speakers built in to the TV. The TV was originally tested for Skype using the TV's internal speakers, so if you have a soundbar or other external speakers connected, the audio performance may suffer on Skype calls.
    Best wishes

  • VoiceOver/Record Audio

I have been able to capture voiceovers with the record audio button in FCP but all of a sudden for no particular reason this function has stoppped working. Now whenever i attempt to capture audio the little box pops up but the dropdown where you are supposed to select the destination is blank:
If i try to hit record anyway it begins to record and it seems to be working except the recording does not appear in my timeline. Also i cannot click the end recording button i have to close the record audio box by the little "x" on the upper left.

Ok - I have made screen captures of the proper settings in the Midi Audio Setup:
For The DEFAULT INPUT -- Microphone:
For Built in Output Set AS Default in Midi Audio Devices:
So in Audio Midi setup make certain that the internal Mic has a mic to the right of it (default)
and the Speaker Icon (Built in Output) has a Mac System Icon & speaker icon to the right of it showing it tobe the default.
If yours doesn't look like the above, click on the gear and - with ONLY the internal Mic or built in speakers
selected above - make them the default.
IN The SYSTEM SETTINS ---  SOUND ----
The Output should be internal speakers -- NOT MUTED
And for the input in Sound sysytem Settings, make sure out put volume is NOT muted:
If you have your system set up correctly, as you snap your fingers ot speak, you should
be able to see the input level respond in real time  (This is what Final Cut "sees"):
IN system sound, the soundflower outputs are muted and it says - The selected device has no output controls
The same for the sounflower (64ch) - "No Output Controls" and muted.
Click on the ? in any of the above windows on your own computer to see selected in depth help on this.
Now you should be able to use the recorder in FCP X w/o issue, in real time. it will save your audio in the event or project that you are "in" or have selected in the browser.
