Is the recovery from external device possible?

Hi @all,
I have a Satellite M30x-134. My DVD drive damaged an now my question:
How can I recover my system (Windows xp) with a damaged internal drive?
Is it possible from an external dvd drive via USB or from an USB stick?
Can you tell me the settings for this procedure?
Many, many thanks and greetings,
Egge

Theoretically it is possible but not so easy to do. USB option will not work. What you can try is to use external CD/DVD drive but it will not work so easy. The reason is that this external device will not be recognized automatically.
I didnt try it but I am pretty sure you must start your notebook with start disc in DOS mode, load DOS driver for this external device to have access to it and as last step start recovery installation.
It is pretty complicated.
Better solution for you is to check eBay, buy new optical disc drive and be happy with well working notebook.

I would do 1 thing at a time:"now the micropohone is not working in facetime"
Here is what you can check to get your mike working in facetime:
    1. Hold down option while you click on the speaker next to time a. date,
under input Device see if your mic is marked. If not: ✔️
    2. Click the apple top left/System Prefs./click on the Sound speaker:
    under Input highlight microphone.
    3. When you have factime on go to video above scroll and see if your mic is marked ✔️
If that does not get it to work there is more you can check:
    (Utilities/Audio, midi setup)
For any other audio device you do this for input and output.

Recently tried to upload photos on my iPad to the iCloud PL beta and in the process it removed all the photos from my device through the photo stream. No CPU backup of photos, photos are older than 30days. What can I do?

First of all, you should always save you photos on computer like any other digital camera.
Backup on iCloud or iTunes only backup your Camera Roll. The other photos should be already on the computer.
Note: Photos are not saved in iTunes, it's only a conduit between your iPhone and your photo managing software on computer.
    What computer do you have?

  • Urgent help please!! decrypting a string recived from external device

i'm using 3des, with ECB mode and PKCS5 padding to encrypt and decrypt a string with a secret Key.
i get an encypted string from external device (remote pc). this string is represented with an array of 16 bytes.
i pass this array directly to the method decypt.doFinal, but i get a badPaddingException :Given final block not properly padded
         at com.sun.crypto.provider.SunJCE_h.b(DashoA12275)

         at javax.crypto.Cipher.doFinal(DashoA12275)
i tried to simulate this problem in my PC, so i encrypt a string and i pass the result (array of 16 bytes) to decrypt.doFinal and it's OK.
when i pass directly an array of 16 bytes the exception is thrown!!
does anyone have an idea please??

does anyone have an idea please??Either you are using the wrong key or your encrypted data has been corrupted. Since you have only provided a minimal amount of code it is impossible for us (well me anyway) to provide a better answer.

  • How to prevent boot from external devices?

    Hello,
Does anyone know how I could disable my imac's boot from external devices (firewire/USB disks etc.) like it can be done on PC hardware by changing BIOS options? Also, how can you password protect your machine pre-boot? I believe both issues are important to protect from unauthorized access (know the "evil maid attack"?)
    Many thanks,
    Georgios

There is a firmware password feature
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1352
but there is an ominous Warning below the Summary. It basically sets the hardware so that a password (not the same as you user account password) is needed when you start up the Mac and nothing much can be done without it.
At the most basic level, if you turn off +Automatic Login+ in System Preferences Accounts pane, a login window will appear when you start up. If a different account (or a different drive) is used to start up your iMac, your user account home folder will not be accessible directly. However, the data is not encrypted in any way, so a determined hacker would be able to access your data.
If you want to encrypt your user account home folder, you can use the File Vault feature which is set up in System Preferences Security pane FileVault tab.

Problem: I lost the option to get the sound from external speakers or headphones to upgrade to Lion 10.7.3. It accepts only internal speakers.  I downloaded  Combo directly , without using "Actualización de software". I followed all the advice from the Apple community.  Can I use bluetooth speakers to solve this problem?  My Computer: iMac. 20-inch, Early 2008. Processor 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo.

You may need to reset PRAM/NVRAM.
First, check that the jack is clean. Put some alcohol on a plug and insert it a few times. See if that helps.
is your output both digital and analog? If digital, is the red laser light visible in the socket? Do not look directly into the socket when checking.
If all else fails try a PRAM reset:
    Reset your computer’s PRAM
A small amount of your computer’s memory, called “parameter random-access memory” or PRAM, stores certain settings in a location that Mac OS X can access quickly. The particular settings that are stored depend on your type of Mac and the types of devices connected to it. The settings include your designated startup disk, display resolution, speaker volume, and other information.
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Immediately press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Continue holding the keys down until the computer restarts, and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
DO NOT HOLD These keys beyond the second startup sound!
    Release the keys.
Resetting PRAM may change some system settings and preferences. Use System Preferences to restore your settings.

  • HT4847 If I back up my ipad photo stream to the iCloud, can I clear all the photos from my device storage? How.

If I back up my photo stream to the Icloud, can I delete the photos from my device? How?

No.  iCloud doesn't back up photo stream photos; it streams them to your other devices.  If you delete a photo stream photo from your phone it will be deleted from iCloud and all other devices/computers sharing your photo stream.
You can't really use iCloud to store your photos so you can free up space on your phone.  If you want to free up space, you'll need to import your camera roll photos to your computer and delete them from your phone as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083.  If you have photo stream photos that are not in your camera roll, save them to your camera roll so they can be imported too.

  • How to use product recovery with external devices?

I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop and it just happens that I wanted to re-format my windows XP. But I realized that my CD drive isn't working anymore so I decided to hook my external CD burner to my pc.
When the laptop is on, the CD is well recognized from that source. But my problem now is that I can't find a way to boot the CD from the external CD drive (USB-Boot).
How do I do it? Or does anyone have a better solution for me to format my laptop given that the internal CD drive isn't working? (I've already tried in BIOS to get external devices as the first device to boot, doesn't work :-( )

Unfortunately dude... I have bad news for you.
The booting from the external USB CD/DVD drive is not possible. The BIOS don't support this functionality.
If you need to boot from the CD you will have to buy a new, compatible and supported internal CD/DVD drive.
Please note that not all slim line CD/DVD drives are supported due to the different master/slave/c-sel settings.
Usually the user manual should provide a information about supported CD/DVD drive.
If not, then ask the Toshiba authorized service provider for an compatible drive.
    Best regards

  • No audio out on internal speakers or headphones from external device

I'm using an intel iMac 17" I tried to plug in an external cassette deck, and listen to it through the internal speakers. Even though all system prefs for audio work as expected, and I can see the audio meters on screen operating, nothing will induce it to play sound either through the internal speakers, or headphones.
The audio is certainly going in there, as it recorded perfectly in iMovie. The internal speakers work perfectly for alerts, iTunes, the web, everything. But no external device will work.
I've tried an iPod, a microphone, and a cassette deck, all with the same result. I've launched Garage Band as this can upset the midi player, but it's fine. I've visually checked the settings, no problem.
As an alternative I also tried an iMic and stopped using the jack input on the iMac. Still nothing. I plugged headphones into the iMic, nothing. No audio will play unless it's already on the Mac. External audio goes in there and dies before it reaches the speakers.
All the visual info I get in the sound panel regarding connection options, output etc, is exactly as expected, I just can't get any audio at all.
Does anyone have any suggestions? There's only a few day's warranty left...
    Many thanks.
Quicksilver G4   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   Programmes in regular use are Freehand, Photoshop, Freeway, Keynote, iMovie, iDV

    Hello David,
Thanks for the pointer. I looked at the website for Linein, and I already have Audio Hijack pro installed, which contains this application. When I ask AH to record the system audio, the volume meters are dead, I hear nothing, and record nothing - unlike iMovie.
When I do ask it to record, I can hear a thumping sound from the Mac speakers, but nothing else.
I'm really desperate for a solution to this; I can't understand why it's so hard to achieve. If it was just the line in socket I'd suspect that, but a USB connection as well? I don't understand that at all.

  • Recovery from external hard disk

    Dear Hp representative,
I have copied recovery file from recovery partition to external hard disk.
After that, I have deleted recovery partition and now I can't restore computer to factory settings.
I have tried to make new recovery media but it says that recovery partition doesn't exists although I have made new partition and copied the recovery file to it.
    Please help.

Unfortunately coping the partition does not work.  I don't thing you will be able to create recovery media from the copied partition on the external but if you have not yet created recovery disk you can give it a try.
If you cannot create the recovery media you will need to contact HP support to obtain a recovery kit.

  • OneKey Recovery from External drive

    Hello,
I am trying to restore my system with Onekey Recovery from an external drive. However, onekey recovery onlys shows two path for selecting images - C drive and E drive.
When I select the E drive, it is not pointing to my external drive. How do I change the configuration such that Onekey can access my external drive to find the backedup image ?
    Thanks,

  • MBP 2011 / 10.6.7: Not booting from external devices

    Hi everybody,
I just bought a brand new MBP 2.3 GHz i7 QC, 8 GB RAM, 500 GB HDD/7.200. After updating to 10.6.7, installing my applications and restoring my libraries and documents, I made a complete backup of Macintosh HD on an external USB HDD using Carbon Copy Cloner.
Unfortunately, the generated clone won't boot, although the parameters of the external HDD are correct (GUID etc.). The boot process hangs at the white Apple logo display and won't continue. Additionally, I tried to start the system from TechTool Pro's and Drive Genius' original boot DVDs - they won't work either. Same for TechTool Pro's eDisk feature.
At last, ProSoft (maker of Drive Genius) support said that some kind of Apple development kit needs to be updated before they can provide a bootable DVD for 10.6.7. Nevertheless, why is the external HDD not working? It has been formatted using 10.6.7, so it should be recognized as a proper external boot device.
Any ideas? Any help is appreciated.

I can surely boot from Apple's OS X installation DVD. No problem. Hardware Test runs through smoothly. Eventually, I made the Carbon Copy Cloner image on the external HDD boot. That's sufficient for now, although I wonder why the DVDs (made with 10.6.4) won't work.

  • Satellite L300 - Can I start the recovery from DOS?

Hi all, is it possible to boot the recovery image from an L300 in DOS?
The reason I ask is, I have a laptop that will not boot in any way shape or form. If put in a Vista disc and go to DOS prompt I can see the recovery partition & files, so is this possible or what are my options?
    Thanks in advance
    Regards, Ciaran

    > , is it possible to boot the recovery image from an L300 in DOS?
    I doubt this is possible
What you could do is to start the Toshiba HDD recovery procedure pressing the F8 button.
Then a boot menu should appear and there you should choose the first option called Repair my Computer.
Then a new window should open providing a option called Toshiba recovery.
Choose it and usually the HDD recovery should start.
But this procedure is possible only if the second partition and the HDD recovery folder have not been changed
