Is the replacement iPod 1st Gen brand new or a refurbished model?

Today I recieved the packet to send my iPod nano back to Apple, but before I do, I'd like to know whether I'll recieve a brand new iPod nano 1st Gen or a refurbished model. My unit is in virtually mint condition due to me keeping it in a case since purchase, and the battery still lasts several hours anyway (I'd be happy with a brand new unit, but I don't want to return it just to get a scratched model with a new battery).
Any information is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You will not receive a 1G nano at all.  You will receive a refurbished 6G model (in whatever color they happen to pull out of the bin).
I was on the phone with Customer Service for almost a half hour today.  The limited supply of already refurbished 1G nanos has already been exhausted, and they are not even refurbishing the ones they are getting back... they are using them for parts for later generation nanos.
I am NOT a happy camper right now.  If Apple had truly done the ritth thing and told people what they would be receiving in return, I would have kept my nearly pristine, shiny black 1G.

  • Ipod (1st gen) to new shuffle, how do I transfer music?

My old Ipod recently died, so I purchased a new ipod shuffle.  I also recently purchased a new laptop, as my old one was very slow.  I have not used the old ipod on the new computer.  I wish to transfer the music frm my old ipod to my new shuffle, via itunes.  I can't seem to figure out how to do this, as my old ipod is registered under my email address/user name etc.  I am not sure if that matters. I have downloaded itunes to the new computer, but when I sign it, it shows nothing.  Please help!

You'll need to copy the content on your old iPod to your iTunes library first before you can sync it to your new Shuffle. See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different ways to copy music from your iPod back to your PC.

  • IPod nano 6th gen (brand new) doesn't recognize when headphones are plugged in

I have a brand new iPod nano (6th gen), and it doesn't detect when headphones are plugged in. I have read that the problem can ocurr because the headphones are not correctly inserted (which is not the case.. i'm absolutely sure about this) or that the headphone jack has dust inside (which is also not the case, since it is brand new).
    This is what happens:
When i play a song, and then press the sleep/wake button to turn off the display, the music stops. Or if i let the music play, it stops when the screen times out and turns off. These two things occur because the ipod "thinks" that there are no headphones inserted.
When i try to activate the FM radio, the radio won't start because it says that there is no radio signal (which occurs when no headphones are connected).
Needless to say, the microphone and volume controls of the iphone headset, don´t work at all (they even work on the ipod shuffle!).. and because of this, no voice recording for me!
It's a shame, because the FM radio is completely useless, and music playing only works by activating the "double click to play" option in the settings menu.. but it is somewhat cumbersome the process of "play music - turn off the screen - double click to resume playing" every time I select a song.
The headphone detection has only worked randomly when the ipod is connected to the computer, but i haven't been able to figure out under what conditions this occurs. I have read about this issue, and I only would like to know if this is a firmware bug of the 1.2 version. I tried unsuccesfully to downgrade the firmware to the 1.1 version (maybe because the ipod shipped with the 1.2 version).
I have also restored the device in itunes, with no luck.....
Thanks in advance for any useful answer!

    Thanks for your answer...
The headphones that i'm using, are the ones that were included with the iphone 4 (so, they are original).. however this shouldn't be a problem, as the ipod should work fine with whatever headphones i choose to use (sound quality will vary, of course).
The ipod does the same with the headphones that were included in the box, and with every pair of headphones i have used to test, so i'm certain that the ipod has an issue.
I hope that the picture is clear enough.. here you can see that the headphones are fully inserted, and the ipod is not recognizing them.

how do i turn off the external speaker on my brand new iPod touch - it is very annoying

Just turn the volume fully down using the lower button on the upper left side of the iPod.

  • If my iphone 5 has a problem within the first 30 days will apple replace it with a brand new one or will i get a refurbished model.

if my iphone 5 has a problem within the first 30 days will apple replace it with a brand new one or will i get a refurbished model??

If it is replaced under warranty, it will be replaced with a unit from the "replacement stock", which either will be a refurb or new (no way to distinguish these) and the S/N will indicate a replacement unit.
The "30 day" rule varies from county to country, and applies only to returns, not replacement.

No. I said it would be a refurbished one.
    Try looking up refurbished.

  • Why aren't there anymore updates for the ipod 1st gen?

Why aren't there anymore updates for the ipod 1st gen? I can barely do anything on it now and it would be a waste . its only 4.2.1 just make it to ios 5

Because the hardware will not support a higher iOS.

  • How to tell if replacement iPod is refurb or new ?

    Hi,
I guess it doesn't really matter that much but I am just curious....how do you tell if the replacement iPod Apple sends you, after you send in yours on a repair, is a refurb or brand new ?
I just got my replacement iPod today and I swear it is brand new but wonder if they just refurbed the inards of somebody elses and put it in a brand new casing ?

    Try best you can:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
      - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem

A simple Google search for iPod battery replacement should give you a number of results to work with.
