Is the tv install on this imac

can any one advise if a tv software is install on the imac 17" flat screen.
or can you advise a software to install to get all uk tv cahnnel.
thank's

I'm going to second Simon's recommendation of the Miglia Mini - it's tiny, good value and works very well accessing all Freeview channels (including Film Four now). We probably use it as much the main TV now in our house - seems a shame not to on a 20" Widescreen LCD in a tiny house like ours . Recording is a single click of the mouse on the programme guide and it's all very sweet. The only snag is the bundled aerial is a little omni whip which is slightly less than useless. Works great plugged in to the roof/loft mounted directional Yagi aerial though. I thought mine was a bargin at the beginning of the year ar £83 from the Apple Store but they've dropped the price furthe nows there's HD in the air.
But...The Miglia Mini requires USB2 (really... I've tried it on my aging PB) so it you have the 800MHz or 1GHz iMac 17" you'll need to look at a Firewire device. If you follow Ian's link above - Elgato list just about every Mac TV Tuner against Country/Signal Type so you can see your options.

My email won't accept my password, was working fine, then one day it wasn't. It is almost as if someone else changed the password and now I cannot use my password or change it to a new one. My iMac is running 10.5.8 , using Earthlink and Safari. Any ideas on this problem?

Are you using the Mail client or Safari to access your email?

  • Falling in love this iMac G4 but being frustrated with AE card install

Hi all, I really DO hope to get some solutions from here about my iMac G4 20" 1.25ghz. I bought this about a week ago as used one, and how much I was excited to adopt this beautifully looking computer..
    To make it short, here is my problem;
Becasue this model(iMac G4 1.25ghz flat screen 20") can take Airport Extreme Card for wirelss networking, I bought an Airport Extreme Card and installed it properly which means I securely inserted the card itself and antenna jack too.
and I turned the computer on, the system profiler recognizes it as expected, but *there are no available wireless networks at all*. In my house, there are always several secured wireless networks available.
    - No signals at all on the menu bar no matter whether to turnthe Airport On or Off
    - "Airport is turned on but is not connected to a network"
SO, I googled this symtom and came up with some possible suggestions such as 'press hard to insert the card and antenna firmly' or 'cleaning the contact of the AE card' or 'try the other card', but none of them did work, still no luck. I tried two different Airport Extreme Card but still no use.
FYI, my router is not apple products but Blitzzz Wireless Router. I have another iMac G4 15"(800MHZ) which has Airport Card(not Extreme)installed, and this iMac G4 15"(800MHZ) picks up all available wireless networks and working just great. And also, my other Windows XP machine alsoworks fine.
According to my researchon the google, there have been some poeple withhaving similar issues and the solution was to connect the card cable fimrly', which is not my case because I triple checked it is securely inserted.
What should I do? Should I just go 'WIRED', 'giving up going wirelessly'?
    ANy thoughts or idea?
    appreciated any responses,
    Kevin

PS: When I opened the machine to see any loose cables, I saw two black cable coming down from the top part which has 'HH' marks on, and one with male type is connected to the other cable(female type) coming from the logic board bottom(pretty sure this is for Wireless connection)), and there is another one(looks like female type) which is not connected but sealed with tiny yellow tape(I googled this and got to know it is for Bluetooth setup at the factory).
After all, all with cable connections seem to be fine.

    Hi guys,
    here is the outcome so far but still no luck;
    1) re-installed Tiger from the scratch and didn't do any update, and the issue was still there(AE card detected but no wireless networks available)
    2) and then, did all updates, but still no luck
SO, the next thing I did was to check if the card itself is okay. I took the card and then inserted into my other mac(eMac G4 1.25ghz) and it worked like charm.
    then I re-installed the AE card into my iMac G4 20" 1.25ghz. This time, I wanted to check what might be wrong with this machine especially its wireless capability, because that way I can tell if there is any internal damaged or broken wireless cable. Hence the followings are what I did;
    1) System Preference -> Sharing -> Internet tab
    2) Checked the Airport then clicked Start.(now I am broadcasting internet sharing through the Airport Extreme Card, isn't it? because this machine also has ethernet connection, wired)
    3) Now, I went to upstairs where there is iMac G4 15"(800MHZ) equipped with Airport card to see whether it can connect to internet through the iMac G4 20"(1.25ghz).
    4) and you know what? actually it can detect the iMac G4 20"(1.25ghz) downstairs.
    5) Doesn't this mean that the wireless cable and the AE card itself on the iMac G4 20"(1.25ghz) are at least working???
Anyway, let me try one more with Leopard tomorrow and will let you guys know. If that doesn't even work under Leopard, I will give up the AE card and rather go for USB type wireless adapter as Ken suggested...
    Very frustrating...
many thanks and will post any update tomorrow...

  • Mac OS 9 will NOT install on 350MHz iMac

recently i acquired an old imac g three, and it has 256mb of ram and it had a password set on it so i decided to format the disk and installed 10.2 on it. turns out in order to install panther i need to install the firmware update so i have to make a partition of os 9 and install it. problem is the computer will NOT RECOGNIZE THE DISC. i have tried holding c, holding option, and formatting at least three times (while checking install mac os 9 drivers) to install the outdated abandonware and IT DOES NOT WORK.
could it have to do with the pram battery being out? i know some people who have this problem however. it's very annoyig and i just want to get this thing back on its feet.
thank you if you can help.

The 350 MHz iMacs built between Oct. 1999 and July 2000 (model identifier PowerMac2,1) originally shipped with OS 8.6.  These came in six colors:  Blueberry, Grape, Strawberry, Tangerine, Lime, and Graphite.  You need a full retail copy of OS 9 to install on this iMac.
The 350 MHz iMacs built between July 2000 and Feb. 2001 (model identifier PowerMac2,2) did ship with OS 9.0.4.  These came five colors:  Indigo, Ruby, Sage, Snow, and Graphite.  You'd need an OS 9 original disk for these machines or a full retail copy of OS 9 to install on it.
Apple made hardware specific original OS install disks for each model of iMac that shipped.  If you put these original disks in a machine that didn't have the correct hardware, they wouldn't work.  So you may have a copy of OS 9 that was shipped with a different version of the iMac you have.
You can check eBay for retail copies of OS 9.
All that being said, it might just be the PRAM battery.
    Good luck.

  • Error: Mac OS X can't be installed on this computer

    Hi,
I am trying to reinstall OSX 10.6 on one of my Macbook Air using the remote install from my iMac.
I have tried wireless and with ethernet but I still get the same message. I do have 2 Macbook Air and I am not sure that I am using the CD's that came with the one that I am trying to install but I did take the CD's that shipped in my new Macbook Air.
The one that is giving my the error presently has 10.6.1 installed but the processor is only 1.6GHz vs the 2.13GHz
Any suggestions on how I can over come this error or what I could do to further diagnosis this problem. From googling the error it appears that others have had this but it seems like they were using CD's that were not for a Macbook Air. I know this is not the case with me
    Thanks--Ed

If you don't use an OS X retail disk for re-installing you have to use the disk that shipped with that exact machine - if using a disk that came with a different machine usually there will that error message that you ran into.

  • What is the max ram for a iMac DV 400mhz? (family M5521)

I've read several posts on this forum about the max memory for this iMac. Several people say it's 512 then usually someone comes back and says "Actually it's 1024". As per the Apple specs page (posted below) the Min is 64MB and the Max is 512MB. Is that overall system, or per slot? I'm guessing it's per slot, since it has two slots and the Ram Sizes states it can handle a 512 chip (2 slots @ 512 ea. = 1024) am I wrong in this?
    Thanks,
    -Matt
    RAM Slots: 2, PC100 DIMM
    Min - Max RAM: 64 MB - 512 MB
    Min RAM Speed:
    RAM Sizes: 64, 128, 256, 512 MB
    iMac DV 400Mhz 512Mb   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

First ensure that you have the correct firmware installed. See Announcement: iMac (Slot Loading): Install iMac Firmware 4.1.9 Before Mac OS X 10.2 or later.
You will need OS 9 installed on the hard drive to install that firmware update. If OS 9 is currently on the hard drive you can install the firmware update (if needed) before swapping the hard drive.
Yes you can install OS 10.3 directly without installing OS 9. If there is any possibility that you will want to boot from OS 9 in the future, ensure that you pick the option to install the OS 9 disk drivers.

  • No AirTunes or Base Station in the Admin Utility on ONE iMac

I have several AirPort Base Stations setup in a single roaming type network. A few of them are AirPort Express models with speakers connected. I can see all my speakers and base stations from the AirPort Admin Utility from all my Macs all the time except one iMac G5.
Most of the time when I reboot this particular iMac G5 (due to a software update, etc.) when it comes back up, it connects to my network and I can surf the web. However, iTunes no longer sees any of the speakers and the AirPort Admin Utility doesn't list any of the base stations. When this happens I have to reboot/shut down/start up the iMac several times before it starts seeing the AirTunes equipped base stations and the airport admin utility sees them.
When this happens I can go to any other Mac and they all see the base stations no problem. So this is limited to just one Mac.
Last night I returned from a vacation. I turned on the iMac G5 and it took about 7 restarts before iTunes would see the speakers. This has been going on for a while on this particular Mac. I thought I had it solved when I reconfigured the account I log on with to be an Admin of that Mac. Then they showed up immediately. However, on the next restart, I had the same problems again.
    About my network
5 Express Base Stations with Speakers/Stereos, etc.
1 of the above is connected via WDS (the main AE that is wired and sharing via WDS happens to be the one closest to this iMac.)
    1 AirPort Extreme Base Station
The rest are connected via Ethernet.
There is only one network and it is WEP secured (WPA is not an option because of one device on my network that doesn't support WPA)
All other Macs work fine on this network and always see the speakers
The one thing that works sometimes is to shut down the iMac. Then unplug the closest AE (which has the speakers connected to it that the iMac uses the most). Boot up the iMac so that it connects to the next closest base station. Launch iTunes and SOMETIMES it will see the other speakers. I can then plug back in the AE and in a few minutes those speakers show up in iTunes. This is what worked last night after several reboots. However, this doesn't always work the first time.
I'm very tempted just to run an ethernet cable to this iMac and end my frustration, however, I'm curious as to why this is happening and what can be done to fix it? I'd also like to avoid the extra cable.
    Any help would be appreciated.
The iMac is a 20" G5 with built-in iSight. All other network ports are turned off so that it only looks for AirPort. I have also tried deleting and re-adding the Preferred network. I have tried logging in as a different user and it still doesn't show the speakers/base stations. The iMac has the latest system/firmware updates.

    Hi Terry,
    Sounds like a difficult situation.
Is it possible for you to try using a Ethernet cable from your iMac to the nearest Airport Express and then see if you can see/access your Airport Expresses? Wondering if you might be having a problem with the Airport on your iMac.
Is this iMac near another mac that can see/access these Airport Expresses? If not there could be interference problems.

  • I am trying to install a registered copy of Photoshop Lightroom that I never installed on my Apple iMac with software version 10.10.  I get the message "Adobe Lightroom 1.  Cannot be installed on this disk because a newer version of this software already

I am trying to install a registered copy of Photoshop Lightroom that I never installed on my Apple iMac with software version 10.10.
I get the message “Adobe Lightroom 1.  Cannot be installed on this disk because a newer version of this software already exists on this disk”
If it is here – I cannot find it anywhere, and I don’t believe that I ever installed it.
I have ordered the upgrade to Lightroom 5.0 and figured that I should install Lightroom 1.0 first.
How can I solve this problem

Actually when LR 5 starts for the first time after it is installed it will have a dialog to Buy, Try or Enter a serial number. You select Enter a serial number and enter the LR 5 serial number first and then because it is an upgrade serial number it will ask for the serial number of a Previous version. You then enter the LR 1 serial number.

Trying to Install Windows 8.1 on my late 2013 21.5" iMac. After I Format the Bootcamp partition, Windows Setup tells me "Windows can't be installed to this disk because it is GPT partitioned."  Huh?

You must use the Windows formatter to format your Windows partition NTFS. Please be sure you select the Windows partition otherwise you might end up formatting your OS X partition NTFS.

  • Mid 2010 iMac upgraded SSD, can't seem to install windows via bootcamp. Windows can't be installed on this storage device. The chosen harddisk contains a MBR-partition-table. Windows can only be installed on GPT-harddisks on EFI-systems error

I have windows 8.1 on DVD & on USB CF Reader/Card. I've followed the full steps in bootcamp, but when it restarts and its time to select the bootcamp partition to install windows (after alt rebooting to the efi startup) I get the "Windows can't be installed on this storage device. The chosen harddisk contains a MBR-partition-table. Windows can only be installed on GPT-harddisks on EFI-systems" error.
I've scoured the internet trying different solutions that seem to work for everyone else, but to no avail. I've reformatted from that screen, doesn't help. I've removed bootcamp partition and manually partitioned using disk util, leaving it empty once partition-wise, and filling it with a blank partition the second time. I've done a full back up and clean re-install of Yosemite, and nothing seems to be working.
Thats when I switched to DVD install, as I heard sometimes you can't install with a CF card. When I alt-boot, I can see EFI-windows and windows, but if I select EFI-windows, same problem as before, and if I select windows, I get the black screen of "no bootable device please insert boot disk and press any key."
I've been stuck w/o bootcamp for over 2 years now. Anyone, please help?
Mid 2010 iMac running 256gb SSD, Yosemite 10.10.1 trying to install windows 8.1

I am having the same problem. Windows is trying to install. It identifies the various partitions but says that I cannot install Windows on the Boot Camp partition or any other. I select Drive options (advanced) and Format the Boot Camp drive, but it makes no difference.
    This is the Windows error:
Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI systems, Windows can only be installed to GPT disks.
Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer BIOS menu.
I am not sure what Csound1 is suggesting with that post above. There are some involved suggestions over here <https://discussions.apple.com/message/23548999#23548999> about using Disk Utility to delete the Boot Camp partition and create new ones - is that the idea?

I changed the hard drive in my mid 2007 Intel Imac.  I'm trying to re-install the the op system. I'm receiving a message stating that "Mac OS X cannot be installed on this computer." I am a "newbe" to Mac's.  Can someone help? Please be gentle.  I raeally am a novice. Thanks in advance

I believe these are the wrong system restore discs for your model iMac, assuming your are correct that you have mid 2007 iMac.
These gray colored type restore discs are Mac-machine specific and are the wrong ones for your iMac.
    They will not work.
The original OS X restore discs for your model iMac would either install OS X 10.4.11 Tiger or OS X 10.5 Leopard.
You have gray system restore discs for a later model iMac. These will not work with iMac year and model.
    Sorry.
You need to purchase a full retail version of OS X 10.6.3 Snow Leopard here instead.
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
These discs will work with your year and model iMac.
Assuming that your hard drive was installed properly, these white retail OS X install discs should be able to boot, format and install OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard to your 2007 iMac.
    Good Luck!

    If 10.7.0 or later...
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partitirion & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.
If that doesn't help Reinstall the OS.
