Has anyone attempted to use the Sabrent SATA ExpressCard in a Macbook Pro?

Is the slow SATA HD issue still unresolved in latest Bootcamp?

an earlier post by kkapoor indicated lack of support for SATA drives in Win XP, and indicated a fix to a now dead web site. Is the slow SATA still an issue? Will it impair running games in Windows mode( the only use I have for Windows)?

I believe this issue was resolved by the Mac Pro SMC Firmware Update.

Portege R600 - where can I find the correct SATA drivers?

I wish to install a solid state drive, and to maintain XP. Setting the correct partition alignment in the SSD and electromechanically installing it are now easy, but there is apparently a SATA driver problem because I cannot boot to either the Toshiba restore disk, a new XP install disk, or an image of the original HDD.
Some have suggested using nlite to slipstream the correct SATA drivers into the XP install, and then beginning from scratch with all app installations, etc.
When I look at the laptop's Devices, I find the Toshiba MK1652GSX HDD, drivers for which appear at
C:\WINDOWS\system21\DRIVERS - then
PartMgr.sys, pssnap.sys, and thpdrv.sys
Is that what nlite needs?
Is there another source for the SATA drivers for this laptop?

Hi, This is my very first letter in this community, so have me excused, if I use it wrong..I reply to the asking for SATA-drivers to R600, nor because I have a solution, but to ask for help myself in a matter much alike: I bought a r600, whishing to downgrade to XP. Unfortunately I did not recieve the XP-downgrade CD together with the Laptop, and now I simply can not get connection to the harddisk, when trying to install XP with a standard XP-boot installCD, even I read about and tried severel INTEL floppy images with Sata-drivers to impose during start of boot with the F6-command: They simply do not work!!

How diagnose the extra SATA ports on the Mac Pro (early 2008) logic board?

I have had two SSDs in an OWC multi-mount in the second optical bay, one for Lion and one for Photoshop scratch. However, I recently began having intermittent boot problems. Sometimes there wouldn't be an Apple symbol upon boot/reboot, yet sometimes there would and the computer would boot. I have not experienced any crashes, kernel panics or such.
I thought the Lion SSD was faulty so installed Mountain Lion on the scratch drive, a Mercury Electra 3G which I have recently received as a replacement from OWC due to a previously faulty SSD. However, immediately there were boot problems from that SSD.
I have a feeling there is something wrong with the two extra SATA ports on the logic board. I am now booted off the Lion SSD placed in an external USB enclosure, which works but is a bit slower (I will get a bracket to install that SSD in the ordinary internal bays).
My question is how I can diagnose the logic board generally and specifically the extra SATA ports. I have Tech Tool Pro 6. I also thought I had AHT but on the Leopard DVD 1, which came with the Mac Pro (10.5.2) and on which AHT is supposed to be there is no trace of AHT. Odd. Booting from that DVD will only bring up the Leopard installer.
Btw I do think the Electra is broken because I am unable to boot ML from it in the USB enclosure.
Grateful for any ideas how to check my logic board.

If you could move the drives easily to another location then you could test the drives and also - make backup images! just to be safe. SSDs and their firmware and problems are almost all too common, even this last June a large issue with SandForce which OWC uses in some/most of theirs, and I get the feeling they are usually behind in testing and sending out firmware updates.
Corsair, Crucial and Intel have all had issues since it surfaced in May.
Diagnosing a motherboard with Apple Service Diagnostic CD is one thing. Swapping out SATA cables though no. WD Lifeguard does check communication to an SATA device drive and can - but you need to see the device in Windows or their boot CD (linux I imagine). Quite good utility though maybe not for an SSD.

How do I replace the main SATA HD in my macbook pro 9,2 with an SSD?

Can anyone direct me to photo directions for replacing the main HD in my macbookpro? Do I need a caddy to install a 2.5 SSD? I am not trying to replace the superdrive, so those caddies are not what I am looking for. CAn I just install the SSD in the same space left for the main SATA drive without using any adapter?

You can install the SSD in the same bay as your current HDD. You don't need a caddy.
Here's a link on iFixit.com with pictures of how to replace the HDD on a Macbook Pro. Same instructions apply when replacing the HDD with an SSD. I recently replaced a 320GB HDD in my early-2011 13" MBP with an SSD. Very easy to do.

Does the powermac G5 support the new Sata 3.0Gb/s Drive

I have the powermac g5 with twin 2.3 processors etc...it's the model that came out just before the most recent upgrades...Does anyone know if it supports the new Sata 3.0Gb/s Drives? If not...are the new drives backwards compatible?

The new drives are backwards compatible. Currently the Seagate 7200.9 version of drives are having problems so you probably want to avoid those for now.

Why is my hard drive not performing at the maximum Sata II speed? MBP mid-2010 (macbook pro 7,1)

I have a question pertaining to the factory hard drive in this Macbook pro mid-2010 that i have. Currently my system profiler is showing that I am using only 1.5 GB/s of the maximum 3.0 GB/s allowed in the SATA II controller. below are a couple of copy and pastes of the information on my Apple product. RAID & AHCI devices on the intel sATA's? P67A-GD65 (B3)

Since i stuffed a 6TB WD Green in my system to use for the bulk stuff i just have to keep, i decided i would go ahead and get the most out of the drives i already had in my system as well, and screw the tiny chance of a data loss, i can just regularly backup the raid to the big old slow drive, and live with it.
Anyway, so i have a Samsung 830 SSD (120gB) as boot / system drive, and 2x Seagate 500GB sATA drives i wanted to raid up to a stripe RAID.
The Samsung 830, and the 6TB WD Green hangs of the Intel 6gbit sATA's, and the Seagates hang of the Intel 3gbit sATA. Simply since thats the fastest combination available. However, since the system is up and running, i ran head on in to an issue. You can only switch the Intel channels to RAID as a group. You don't have to include all the drives in the RAID, which of course means drives not included will show up as what they are, single drives available to the OS. However, the AHCI bit's apparently aren't enabled then, and the system fails to boot of the current install on the SSD.
Back in 2011 Intel stated that RAID on their sATA chip's would enable AHCI, but the only reason for BSOD's on boot that i can come up with, is the lack of AHCI, while the OS expect AHCI.
Is there a workaround / fix for this? At this point i wont pull the rack out just to move the 2 drives to the Marvell chip, and live with the lower speed. Mainly since it's quite the elaborate procedure to pull the darn case out of the rack cabinet...

In the interest of being thurogh. I got a i5 2500K on the motherboard, and i think i'm running 1.9 BIOS or something. I'm not quite able to reboot right now, but it was the "last one" before they started making magic stuff which made the motherboard twitchy if you updated to a Ivy Bridge BIOS, and ran a Sandy, and vice versa.
If it makes any damn difference, i'll check the BIOS once my current batch of file transfers are done... Which is in something like 20 hours.

When i built the system i switched it to AHCI since Windows 7 knows what that is, and how to use it. When i stuffed the 6tB drive in there, and decided to stripe the 2 500gB drives, i went and switched it to RAID mode.

Perhaps a tiny performance loss, but it's still there. At that rate i'd rather go through the hour long process of pulling the case, and switching over the "to be RAIDED" drives to the marvell chip, and take the performance hit from the slower performance it has.

Turn out i don't need to reboot to check the BIOS. I still have the forum flasher thingy installed, and it reports the stats when launching. 1.j, or, 1.19. BIOS date, 2012-03-07. I was right as far as it's the latest right up to when they started adding Ivy Bridge support, and things went weird. Not sure if any of the later BIOS alternatives would be helpful in this situation.

Picking the right SATA ports for Hard Drives.

With in a week I'll be puting together my new system, I'm currently buying and ordering parts now.

For the IDE bus, should I make the two hard drives primary on each IDE bus, and have the burners secondary?

I just built my machine using the K8N Neo4 Platinum myself.
I am using the first two Nvidia SATA ports (the purple colored). I think it is easier to connect your SATAs on there.
Make your optical drives on one IDE channel and your other 2 hard drives likewise. Make your DVD burner the Master and set your CD burner as a Slave. Same with your IDE hard drives. Set either/or WD to a master and the other to a slave.
Those are just my suggestions, as there are many different combinations to plug these IDE devices in. You are primarily looking for best performance since devices sharing an IDE cable won't get top performance (as in the Slave devices).

What's the best SATA Hard drive

I just found a Hitachi SATA 160GB from Zipzoomlfy for under $110. Has anyone tried this SATA hard drive? Is the operating temperature below forty?
How about Western Digital or Maxtor? Do they operate at low temps.
I have the older Hitachi 120GB and it operates above 40C (IDE). I also have a seagat 40GB (IDE) and it barely goes above 36C.

KT4 Ultra (6590) need update of the Promise SATA RAID Controller PDC20376

The last Bios update AMI 1.4 for the KT4 Ultra (6590) have built in the bios version 1.00.0.18 for the PDC20376 (Promise 376).
I can configure 2 maxtor (6E040T0) sata1 in a raid0 array and it works under WinXP SP3,
but the 2 drives are working in UDMA5 according to the FastBuild Utility when the motherboard specifications talks about 150Mb (SATA1).
It's not an OS problem because the FastBuild Utility at Bios startup show the UDMA5 mode for HDD.
It's not a Maxtor 6E040T0 (SATA1) problem because have no jumper to set.
The Promise support center don't provide support for built in raid controller but the responce was that it's related to a known bios issue of the controller, so i have to update.
For the last Bios version for the S150 TX4 controller look at:

It's impossible to update the bios with the promise tool because the controller is integrated in the motherboard.
I read for example than on the motherboard K7N2 Delta-ILSR the bios version of the Promise 376 controller is 1.00.0.21:

I think the only solution is a modding bios, where i have to replace only the Promise controller bios but:
1) The tool amibcp.exe can't open the A6590VMS.140 AMI bios (renamed .rom), i don't know why!!!

This is my results compared to my other UDMA6 HDD on IDE1, HDTach long bench stop with "Read Error" and only quick bench works.
The version of the Controller driver under WinXP-SP3 is 1.0.1.29 and I configured the driver in the PAM Utility with:
"Driver Write Cache" enabled and "Write Back" as cache settings (The 2 Maxtor SATA1 in RAID have 2MB of cache, but i don't know How many cache have the controller!!).
