Is the wall charger better for the battery then using the computer?

I was looking for things for my Shuffle to add to my Christmas list when I came across this in the Apple Store. Someones review said that this item is better for the battery as when you plug it into a computer it drains the battery, then recharges it. As to this iten which charges the empty space only and does not drain the battery before recharging. Is this true? I will give points to those who can answer.

Apparently it makes no difference to the life of the battery how or how often you charge it.
I charge mine in a USB port on the external speakers I bought (iSound) and a full charge takes about 3 hours. - this is about the same as just plugging it into your USB port on your PC.
(I tend to just top up the charge after a couple of uses)
I just find it more convenient to be able to charge it without having to power up the PC everytime.

Is it normal for someone to have general diffuculty charging an ipad?  I see the "not charging" message even when I am using the charger and cord that came in the original box, plugged into a wall socket directly.  It is normal for me to plug it in overnight and to see no charge whatsoever the next day.  I have never had so much trouble using a friggin charger in my life.  It just seems to be exceedingly finicky.  What am I missing?

Charging your iPad should not be problematic. It should be an easy thing to do using the charger provided with your iPad connected to a known good wall outlet.
The charging problem you are experiencing is most like caused by:
    1. A faulty charger
    2. A faulty cable
    3. A bad wall outlet
    4. A problem in the iPad.
The first three of these are easiest to eliminate. Try a for ends charger and cable. Make absolutely sure your outlet is good. Try other outlets.
If the charger, cable and outlet a proven to be good then the problem lies in the iPad.

  • Now impossible to insert the cursor by clicking in one paragraph. I am able to 'find' the cursor by going to another paragraph, then using the arrows to position the cursor in this rogue paragraph.

    I use Pages version 4.0.5.
My software is all up to date, 10.6.8 version of OS.
The particular document with the problem is 255 pages and currently at 125,000+ words. One area of a paragraph seems to be at fault and clicking within it has no effect. No cursor appears, no editing is possible and no other input is possible for that part of document.
I can work round this by going to another paragraph, clicking there when the cursor appears, then using the arrows to get the cursor in to position in this 'rogue' paragraph.
I am fairly new to Mac, only having bought this machine at the end of last year but have used it everyday since then. I did have problems with an image editing program supplied with a new Pentax camera but I have stopped using that program after taking the laptop to Apple tech in Sheffield UK who said the laptop was OK but the program was VERY slow and they could see when checking forums that this program was causing problems for other Mac users.
That was about three months ago, so the laptop was deemed to have a clean bill of health then.
I am curious and disappointed more than anything, as I can work around the problem at the moment.
What might be going wrong, how can I correct it, if at all, and should I be worried that there might be a more significant problem developing?

  • Set the description value for a step by using the TestStand API

    Hi,
to read the description of a step there is provided a method:
    Step.GetDescriptionEx
What about setting this value via API?
I didn't found any method like 'SetDescriptionEx' !
    Regards,
    Sunny

There is no set method because the description is dynamically computed by evaluating the DescriptionExpr property of the step's steptype.
If you want to make a custom step type with a settable description, add a step type subproperty of type string named MyDescription. Then set the step type's Step Description Expression to Step.MyDescription.
Now, for any instance of your step type, you can set the Step.MyDescription property to change the description.

I've run diagnostics. Can't find device. I've tried resetting. The toggle has been turned on and off.

Cable works fine on my other iPod. Reset by pressing menu and center button together for 6-10 seconds. Left it to charge for many hours. Started acting up while running. Suddenly the music stopped playing but my Nike + was still working for the rest of my run. Took it straight it home and plugged it in to the wall to recharge since the battery was fairly low. Looked like it recharged ok but then screen went blank and now does it not show up on iTunes, does not seem to recharge by the wall charger (apple wall charger plugged into a surge protector in India). I have turned the hold switch off and on many times.
Sounds like a repair issue, which is not easy to do in India :(

  • My IPad1 has completely shut down. It has no power. I have tried a restart and a reset with no results. I have tried charging through the keyboard dock, the wall charger and my Macbook Pro with no results. Is this a complete battery failure?

My IPad 1 has lost complete power. I have attempted a restart and a reset without results. I have attempted to charge with the keyboard dock, the wall charger and connecting to my MacBook Pro. Again no results just a black screen. Is this a battery failure? I am in Mexico for another 6 weeks and hoping to find a solution.

    Cathi-
How long did you have the iPad connected to the wall charger?  A completely dead iPad battery may not work until it has been charged for some time - maybe a half hour or more.  I suggest leaving it on charge overnight, and then trying the reset.
The MacBook may be able to charge the iPad if it doesn't go to sleep, but it will be extremely slow.  the Wall charger is definitely the best way.

  • What do I do if the the wall charger doesn't work for the ipad2?

my ipad 2 won't charge with the wall charger. What do I do if that happens?

If it's saying 'not charging' it is likely still charging, just at less than optimum and will take much longer than normal. You can go and get a new brick at almost any retail outlet. (yours could be covered under warranty if it's not too old, but sending it off doesn't help you charge it while it's gone)
If you buy a new brick and still get the 'not charging', you can also swap out the USB cord. If you try it with multiple outlets, multiple bricks and multiple cables...you can try to reset your iPad, either power cycle it or hold down the home and sleep button until you see the apple logo.
If you reset it and have used multiple combinations of outlets and bricks and cables then it's a very good possibility that your docking port/USB port on the iPad is going bad. Which means, depending on how old it is, you can likely exchange it or send it in for replacement/repair.

  • Does the wall charger for a 17" macbook pro work on my new Macbook Pro?

I searched for docs and specs but can't seem to come with anything. Does the wall charger for a 17" macbook pro work on my new Macbook Pro?

Well, obviously you have NO faith in me or you wouldn't ask.
Go to the Apple Store online. Search for laptop power products and look for Apple's replacement AC adaptors. One is the 60 watt model for MacBooks. The other is the 85 watt adaptor - now read this very carefully because it's in smaller, lighter print - which says for 15" and 17" MacBook Pros. Will you take Apple's word?

  • If I use my ipad2 while plugging in the wall charger (charging), will it hurt the battery?

If I use my ipad2 while plugging in the wall charger (charging), will it hurt the battery?

No, I do it all of the time. But based on what you are doing, your activities may use more energy than the 10v charging and you still use the battery, just at a slower rate.

The apple logo appears for 5 seconds then disappears for 10 then appears for five and so on. I can get it to the connect to iTunes screen but as soon as I unplug it from the wall it shuts off completely. A laptop with iTunes isn't enough to power it up. Can anyone help me fix this?

  • Ipods req the wall charger, old and new

    Ok, technical question here.
What is the variable in an ipod requiring a wall charger for the final part of a restore? ipod type or powered usb port. I believe it's the type of ipod (with the powered usb port being a requirement for the ipod to connect to the computer), but read below with further details.
I was under the assumtion that the ipods required a powered usb (1.1 or 2, 2 being the better choice) port, and if it was not powered, the ipod wouldn't connect in the first place. Am I correct with this, or are there like strange multiple versions of powered usb ports?
The thing that leads me to believe that it depends on the ipod is because that is what I've dealt with during my stint doing psychotic ipod fixing. Same laptop/chord/usb port and everything, but the 5Gs/nanos did not require the wall charger during the restore process while the old 4Gs/1G minis did.
If it was the poweredness (I don't know what else to call it!hah) of the usb port that was the variable, the older ipods would not have required it.
These same findings have been experienced on the brand new two day old laptop I was using at work, and my one year old laptop at home.

    Welcome to the Apple discussions.
There are 4 components to the charging circuit: Power adapter, dc-in card, logic board, and battery. It sounds like your power adapter is working alright. Based on your description, they replaced the dc-in card, which contains the port the rca plug from the power adapter goes into, and they replaced the battery.
Have you reset the Power Management Unit (PMU)? See this Apple article: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=14449
If a PMU reset doesn't fix it, take it back, explain that you've replaced the dc-in card and battery and it still doesnt't charge. Sounds like you have Applecare. They should take it, and replace the logic board, as that's the only component left in the charging circuit (again assuming your power adapter is good).

  • What's wrong with my MacBook, it only works when its plugged in to the wall charger

my MacBook only works when its plugged in with the wall charger. What's wrong with it? it the problem fixable ?

    Marina -
What Kappy said, or maybe your Battery charging cable is faulty, or something's happened to the input slot.
I'd take it to Apple and have them troubleshoot it for you.

My iPod touch is not charging, nor is it syncing with my commputer and iTunes. It will charge on the wall charger, and in the car, but not on the computer. My wife's iPod Nano syncs on the computer. I went in and reset my iPod Touch back to factory settings and now it will not let me get in unless I sync to iTunes on my computer. Well, it still will not connect thru the USB cord. Does anyone know what I should do to get this corrected? I want my iPod back.

Have you seen and worked through the suggestions in this Apple support document?

Did you check the USB cable or try another one?
Did you check the docking port for any kind of debris or lint?
Did you already try to reset your device by holding the sleep and home button until the Apple logo comes back again?
