Is there a 1.3mp Mac-compatible webcam?

I realise that this is slightly off-topic, but it's the only place I can find to post my question!
I need to find a webcam that can take stills at 1.3mp resolution but is also (of course) Mac compatible. I would of course get an iSight, but the 640x480 resolution is too low for what I need.
So far I've drawn a blank - please can someone help?

I'd recommend looking for a camcorder with a firewire connection. Such as this one: http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/USD/SYDisplayProductInformation-Start?ProductSKU=DCRTRV280&Dept=cameras&CategoryName=d cc_DICamcordersDigital8HandycamCamcorders

Can anyone suggest a Mac compatible webcam or two for me...smiles

    Hi jimmyblues-
I'm hip but I just couldn't find anything Mac. Thanks for posting that.
Have you any feedback about any of those units? They certainly look like they should do the trick, but it would be interesting to know how they actually integrate and work with a Mac and associated programs.

  • Reviews or feedback on WIRELESS or ETHERNET mac compatible webcams

Hi, to be clear not interested in USB webcams - I have a logitech 9000 - but am looking to put a web cam in another room (a security cam for the front of our home) running with securityspy (bensoft.com) so it isn't near the computer, hence needs to be either a) a wireless compatible model or one that can plug into an ethernet port with a networked address. I am aware of this great site that lists compatible cams
    http://www.mac-compatible-web-cam.com/
but there are no listings of wireless or networked cams. Any takers on this one? And respectfully I'm not looking for "I think it might work" or "have you googled" - I'm trying to find someone who's used these things, found a solution perhaps etc.

    802.11b/g/n ... does not matter.
You can have high interference from a lot of neighboring networks in a dense urban area. Keep in mind that the airwaves are a shared medium and 802.11 protocols use the access method CSMA/CA (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carriersense_multiple_access_with_collisionavoidance) This means that the Apple TV can at times get no access to the network even though signal strength is high.
If you can get a direct Ethernet connection to your router it will be much more reliable in an area where there are a lot of other 802.11 signals.
If you really want to run wirelessly (or must) ...
    1. The 2.4 GHz band has 11 channels. But 802.11 uses 5 of them at the same time and the channel number is just a center channel. So in reality, there are only 3 non-overlapping channels available: 1, 6 and 11.
    2. Do you have a microwave running? Microwaves run on channel 6 (2.450 GHz). Try either channel 1 or channel 11 for your access point (AP).
    3. Most people use their AP out of the box on channel 6. Again, channels 1 or 11 have lower interference.
    4. Does your AP have an external antenna jack? If so, maybe you can find an antenna with more gain. If the antenna is directional, it can be aimed at your Apple TV and thus reduce the interfere from other networks.
    5. At last resort, you can also get Ethernet to run through your house wiring using powerline networking products.

  • Advice for mac compatible webcam that is wideangled enough for conferencing

I am working with a company who is currently using a Logitech QuickCam Vision Pro for one of their conference rooms, the quality is okay but it is only able to capture half of the room. There is no way to reposition it to capture more of the room so I was wondering if anyone knew of a webcam that might be better suited for wider views. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  • Suggestion for a truly Mac-compatible webcam?

I'm not sure which is the best group for this, so here goes. I need a wireless (wifi 802.11g) network camera, which I will access from a Mac. A number of cameras rated highly on-line don't actually work with Mac because they need an ActiveX control (only available on Windows with Internet Explorer) or need a PC for the initial setup. Can someone recommend a good network camera that doesn't need any PC involvement?
    Thanks!
    Mike

Ok, I can provide you with a better answer than linking to a Google search.
Look for a camera with similar features to the isight.
CCD sensor has a 640×480-pixel VGA resolution. Autoexposure, autofocusing from 50 mm to infinity, and video capture at 30 frames per second in 24-bit color with a variety of shutter speeds. Internal microphones with dual-element noise suppression.
    Like these cameras:

You can also use Logitech cameras using Macam drivers.

  • Compatible webcam for a G4

Does anyone have a Mac compatible webcam they would recommend? I have a G4 running Tiger 10.4.11. I bought a Logitech quickcam communicate deluxe at a good price, but before opening it, I wondered if anyone knows if it would be compatible? I went to 2 logitech sites and one convinced me "no" and then the other one made me think it might. I don't have an xbox so that camera wouldn't be practical.
    Thanks, Karen

As I said in the email any UVC Compliant camera will work if you have OS 10.4.9 or above and USB 2.0 ports
Older (non UVC compliant) cameras will need a Mac Drive and Possibly the iSUBCam utility
I can not see this Deluxe variant you talk about in their Camera Guide so it may be so new it has not made it or just not listed. (the List is not exhaustive).
The Spec Sheet does say it is USB 2 and mentions the Logitech RightLight™2 Technology whicg is normally a good sign along with Vista compatibility that it is in fact UVC compliant.
I have not heard anything Specific about this camera.

  • Mac compatible web cam

    Hello all,
I am moving across the pond to London and am looking to get a web cam so I can chat with my family. Unfortunately the iSights are no longer being made and are virtually impossible to track down. I have been looking to see if I can find another mac compatible webcam but am having a difficult time. If anyone could suggest a solid web cam that would work with my Powerbook, that would be awesome!
    Regards!

  • Is the Logitech Webcam C930e fully Mac compatible?

    Hi:
I'm looking for a quality webcam that is fully Mac-compatible, which is to say that not only will my Mac Book pro running 10.7.5 recognize the camera, but that I'll also be able to use the camera and software for full functionality.
I'll use it to teach piano with skype or some other similar type of software, so the mountabilty/portabilty of the cam to get a good view of the piano is critical.
I'm also wondering how one might use 2 cams in tandem, switching between views of me speaking and demonstrating at the piano as needed, but at the moment that's a side technical issue that I'm guessing would not be difficult to overcome.
Thanks in advance for your responses,
    Michael

The Logitech support page says that the Logitech Webcam C930e is compatible with Macs running 10.7.x or greater so it should be compatible with your MacBook Pro.
If I were you, I would email Logitech support about the possibility of using a two-camera setup (or if there's software that offers PiP for Mac). See -> http://www.logitech.com/en-us/support/webcam-c930e-business?crid=405.
    Good luck,

  • Is there a good but free word processor that's Mac compatible?

I don't know where else this question would belong so I just put it here. So, my question is: Is thier a free (but decent) word processor that's Mac compatible that I can download off of the internet? I've already used up my free trial of "Pages" that came with my iMac. I'd also like it to be able to save and print off text documents and also be PC compatible as well.

Hi, you already have Text Edit, I use BEAN//it's pretty good, but you can Google your requirements and there are quite a few "freebies"

  • Is there a Mac-compatible wireless print server?

This is a variation on a theme many have touched upon. I want to have my Airport Extreme wirelessly connected to two printers (B&W laser, and color inkjet) currently connected by USB cables, stretched to 16' limit. Printers can't be moved conveniently to a closer position. I bought a $100 NetGear wireless print server WGSP606 (two USB ports) at CompUSA yesterday after staff there said it would work with Macs. Alas, it doesn't. The printers are not wireless models; the wireless print server supposedly (if Mac-compatible) would effectively make them wireless. From the various posts I get impression that an Airport Express might work, but could it serve two printers? Anyone know of a Mac-compatible wireless print server? Or have a workaround suggestion? Any help much appreciated.

I'd say if the print server supports standard printing protocols, then OS X will work with it. But there are issues you should learn about.
The network comm protocols you see in Printer Setup Utility are part of the CUPS system. Very few (only Brother so far) non-postscript printer drivers work correctly with the CUPS system. The manufacturers have provided OS 9-style drivers that have USB comm written into the driver, limiting you to USB use only. Postscript printers don't have this issue because they don't need a driver, just a PPD. Apple tried to get around this issue by including Gimp-Print open source CUPS drivers, but the models supported are limited. So, the first issue is - is a CUPS driver available?
Protocol setup on OS X is the next issue. For Windows, there is autosetup software for nearly every print server sold new. We don't have that software on OS X, so we need to enter the correct info into Printer Setup. The IP > IPP and IP > LPD protocols require a print-server-specific queue name together with IP address to route data to the printer. Because of the Windows autosetup software, help desk people at Netgear may not even know this basic info. But nearly all print servers correctly support the standards and the device queue name can be found in the print server manual.
The advantage of Airport Express and Extreme as print servers is that Apple uses the airport/Bonjour software to redirect USB output from the computer to the USB on the Express/Extreme. Kind of avoids the printer driver issue but also takes away some standard IP protocols (only HP jetdirect is supported for non-Bonjour printers).
Sorry for the mini-lecture. Hope this helps.
(Airport Express/Extreme is only for one printer)

  • Mac compatible external wireless webcams

Can anyone suggest a good compatible webcam that will work with a mac and iCam and is compatible with OS X.
Thanks in Advance for your help.

It looks good, I will give it a go. Not sure if it will do the whole movement detection thing though.
The other thing is it's dependent on the computer being on, ideally I was looking for one the had it's own IP address to enable me to leave it on guarding home and to enable me to view from My iPhone.
Any other ideas would be much appreciated.

Just tried purchasing Aperture3 and it said it was unavailable because I only have Mac OS X version 10.6.8.  Is there another download that is compatible?

Old apps that run under Snow Leopard will not run under Lion? That's cruel.
Two problems: Snow Leopard has the Roseta-environment, that emulates a PowerPC. Lion does not have this any longer, so you can only run Intel-Applications in Lion (or universal binaries).
My PowerPC Applications look like this in Lion - I see quite a few "ghost busters" - mostly device drivers for my Nikon Scan, Panoramamaker, etc.
Since MacOS 10.7.4 the next generation of Applications is approaching - 64bit-only-applications, and 32bit plug-ins will be  left out - all 32bit-only external editors. The newest version of Aperture requires a 64bit Intel processor and will not except 32bit plug-ins- all older NIK plug-ins are a problem.
