Is there a ATI Radeon HD 5770 Graphic card for 2-monitor use?

Hi, I just purchased a ATI Radeon HD 5770 Graphics Upgrade Kit for Mac Pro only to discover that there is only one VGI port for a monitor. I have been using two monitors for Final Cut work since I bought my MacPro tower in 2006. I need this new card to work with fxfactory 'pan and zoom' as a plug-in in Final Cut Studio. Does anyone know if Apple makes one with two VGI ports?
Thanks very much, Bob

What is VGI?
If you mean VGA - VGA is a VERY old connection type and the 5770 does not have a VGA port.
Do you mean DVI?
The card has a dual link DVI and two mini DisplayPorts. If you mean you need a second DVI connection, get a Mini DisplayPort to DVI connector from Apple or a 3rd party converter supplier.

  • ATI Radeon HD 3870 Graphics Card for Mac debuts

    http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,147040-c,graphicsboards/article.html
AMD on Thursday announced the ATI Radeon HD 3870 for Mac and PC Edition. The new card is expected to ship at the end of June for US$219.
The card works in the PCI Express slots of both first-generation and second-generation Mac Pro systems, and features 512MB of 256-bit GDDR4 frame buffer memory and 320 stream processors. It's designed as a graphics upgrade for Mac Pros -- even those that may have come equipped with the Nvidia GeForce 8800 card introduced earlier this year. AMD claims its new Radeon card runs faster and costs less than the GeForce 8800 GT, which is only available from the Apple Store and costs $279.
The graphics processor can crank up to 70 gigabytes per second bandwidth using a 775MHz engine. That translates, according to AMD's internal benchmarks, into *30 to 180 percent better performance in Apple's Motion 3 software than the GeForce 8800*; slow Motion performance has been an Achilles' heel of Nvidia's rival card since its introduction.

    Rob has it benchmarked:

I'm going to definitely buy this as soon as it's online. I'll order it through Rob's link too to reward him for all the work he's done on this issue.
Now, how about a refund on my GeForce 8800 upgrade, Apple?

  • Radeon HD 5770 graphics card works perfectly with my MAC Pro 1,1 and Adobe CS6. However, Photoshop CC won't read the card drivers and says I need to reinstall them and disabled 3D funtions as a result. Anyone else with this issue?

Radeon HD 5770 graphics card works perfectly with my MAC Pro 1,1 and Adobe CS6. However, I upgraded to Adobe CC and Photoshop CC disabled some filters and 3D functionality. The preference panel for Performance/Graphics Card in Photoshop CC is greyed out and inaccessible and shows this message -
"Photoshop detected an error in your display driver. Update or reinstall the driver and check Use Graphics Processor to retry."
I still have Photoshop CS6 installed and it still works perfectly. Anyone else with this issue? Is there a driver update for this compatable with my setup?

after going round with this Adobe was able to find the fix....opened the "show content" folder for the application Photoshop CC (control click on the application folder) and navigate to the sniffer file and rename it by putting a tilda ~ in front of the name..." ~sniffer ", close and open PhotoshopCC...and voila, problem solved... • Is it worth it?  ATI Radeon HD 5770 Graphics Upgrade Kit

Hey all. After several frustrating hours scouring the forums for information relating to graphics cards for early 2008 MP's, I thought I would just ask my question. Is it worth buying the ATI Radeon HD 5770 Graphics Upgrade Kit from the Apple store? What I mean is, is there a new graphics card option coming soon seeing as the 5870 seems to be "Unavailable" for ages.
I have heard rumours that Apple bought up all the ATI 5870's and ATI is re-branding and it's cheaper to buy a PC compatible card and flash it but I don't want to mess around with all that (I would have a windows machine if I did). I've checked newegg and OWC and they both only have the quadra card and there is no way I'm paying that much. I currently have the NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT so any upgrade is good I suppose, I just always seem to buy something right before Apple releases the new version!
    Any suggestions is appreciated thanks.

    Hi-
    Welcome to Discussions!
    Is the 5770 worth it?
It's not a bad price for a card that runs circles around the 8800:
    http://www.barefeats.com/wst10g6.html
Would be nicer if the 5870 was available.
It is billed as the Top Gun for Macs (currently), but the reported price makes it a dear upgrade.
As for the future, the 67xx and 68xx cards are in the pipeline, but, if as with the 57xx and 58xx, it may be almost a year before we see a Mac version....

  • Hello !, can i install Mac OSX Lion to my PC (not mac)  i have got Intel Core2 Quad processor and Gigabyte P35-DS3 and 3GB RAM and ATI Radeon HD4850 Sapphire graphics Card ?

    Hello Guys
i want to install MacOSX to my pc
i heard something about that (like OSX86 project ?)
i have got Intel Core2 Quad processor and Gigabyte P35-DS3 and 3GB RAM and ATI Radeon HD4850 Sapphire graphics Card ?
    please answer .......

Teknus...  Here's the issue.  For starters, I understand software licensing issues may not be interpreted the same in all countries (although they are still applicable).  I also understand that everyone is not familiar with what software licensing is.  It is technically possible to install OS X on a PC (as you have seen on your friends computer).  However, Apple has designed OS X to only work on Macs.  In order to get OS X to work on a PC, it must be modified ("hacked").  As these forums are owned by Apple, we are not permitted to provide you with instructions on how to hack their OS.
Having said that, I have used OS X on PCs.  It is not a pleasant experience at all.  The experience is actually poor enough on a PC that I would not even use it... opting for Windows or Linux instead.  You're simply sacrificing too much of the true OS X experience when you try to run it on standard PC hardware.  If you want to try  a different operating system, give Linux a try.  There are many free versions out there and they will run on just about any PC.  The forums are also very helpful.  Linux is much more similar to OS X than Windows.
I understand that Macs are expensive and that you would like to use OS X on a PC.  The simple fact is that using it on a PC would not be the same as using it on a Mac.

  • Passive graphics card for 2-monitor setup

I am looking for a graphics card for use with 2 monitors in a dual monitor configuration that has:
    Passive cooling
    1 x DVI port
    1 x DisplayPort
I'm aware that CS6 can  make use of some of the more advanced graphics card features, such as Open CL, but I don't understand the technicalities of this, nor what this implies when choosing a card.  I will not be doing any video-editing, video playback or gaming.
    My questions are:
Would a card such as the Sapphire Radeon HD 6670 Ultimate provide full support for CS6, without being overkill? (http://www.sapphiretech.com/presentation/product/?cid=1&gid=3&sgid=1088&pid=1240&psn=&lid= 1&leg=0)  -  I thought that the "low active power consumption and Dynamic Power Management" features seem a good idea, since the card will never be used very intensively.
Or would the much cheaper Zotac Synergy Edition GeForce GT 210 be just as good for my needs. (http://www.sapphiretech.com/presentation/product/?cid=1&gid=3&sgid=1088&pid=1240&psn=&lid= 1&leg=0)
Or are there other types of cards that would be more appropriate?
And finally, can you connect a single-link DVI device to a dual-link DVI port?  (If so, I would like the DVI port to be dual-link, for future compatibility.  If not, it will need to  be single-link, for my current hardware.)

For the benefit of anyone searching on this topic in the future, a posting of this question on Silent PC Review (http://www.silentpcreview.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=65413) yielded some extremely helpful responses.

  • MLink X + ATI Radeon HD 5770 Graphics Upgrade Kit

I am a great fan of the thunderbolt expansion chassis but a little bit doubtful because i don't have infinite money recourses and not a thunderbolt expansion news follower.
recently mLogic announced the mLink X which is a sort of cheaper less decorated mLink R as it seems, though a very good candidate for what i have in plans for it. I want to boost mu MBPr 13" with this expansion chassis using what every graphics card that is compatible. now I know Apple isn't the biggest supporter of external or by default any other graphics card they do not pick or sell them self, though their are a couple that do work with the Mac Pro.

    Hi and thanks for replying.
You have the same hardware? MacPro 2,1, 8-Core Xeon, 3GHz with 30" Cinema Display???

  • I have a 27" Viewsonic 1080p monitor connected to an oldish Mac Pro with an ATI Radeon X1900 XT Graphics card.  The problem is that the image does not fill the screen?!?!?

I know the image can fill the monitor, because at start up, the white Apple logo screen fills it up.  But once the system starts up, there are bands of black framing the image.  I have searched extensively on the internet and found the following clues, none of which solved the problem:
    1) In the Windows world you can get software from ATI called Catalyst Converter that gives you the cpaobility to scale the image.  This software/feature is not available for Mac users.
    2)  Viewsonic's web site has a trouble shooting tool.  This came up in response to the topic "you have recently upgraded to a larger monitor"
"This could be an issue if you have an older Apple using the system's onboard memory to support both the system and video display. Even if you have enough onboard RAM to support a higher resolution, it will not since the system will use some of the memory. Because the true video RAM available is much smaller than the total onboard amount, the system limits the size of the image. You will need to contact Apple to get an upgrade in onboard RAM or update the complete system."
I have 2GB of RAM, so lack of RAM memory does not seem to be an issue. I am running OS 10.6.8
Does anyone have any clue how to solve this problem.  It is frustrating to have a 27" monitor behaving like a 25" monitor.
Thanks in advance for sharing any experience on this.

  • ATI Radeon 9600 PRO Graphics Card

I am thinking of upgrading my graphics card, my computer came with a Nvidia Geforce4 mx, I was at the apple store and noticed a few people having problems with this card. I was wondering if anyone out there has any info for me about the odds of this card working on my Quicksilver G4 933 MHz. Iam driving a Cinema Display 20 inch. I really like gaming online and could use the added memory that the ATI Radeon Pro 9600 has, plus my curent card has problems with full screen games.

    StephanZcat,
I've been out of town for a bit and just saw your post and links. I'll do some research and see if I can come up with something. ...and maybe we can get some other experts in here.
    JBernstein:
Apple usually has a disclaimer about all 3rd party upgrades to Mac's that states they 'do not support them'. So, if it's not for sale at the Apple Store or a Dealer, "It's not supported" - even if it works just fine. For Apple Authorized Do-it-Yourself upgrades there is a page you can access:
    http://www.apple.com/support/diy/
There are many sites that track Mac upgrades, I'll list a few.
For 3rd party upgrades and issues, look at:
    http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/
    http://www.barefeats.com/
    http://eshop.macsales.com/benchmark/index.cfm
BTW, your 20' just needs at least a 32MB Video card to push it. Here's a list of most cards that will fit in your 'Sawtooth'. It's set up for Apple Cubes but the information may be helpful in
seeing the differences in video cards
    http://www.cubeowner.com/forums/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=1327
Note: Your Sawtooth's motherboard does NOT support ADC connections. There is no power supply for them. You will have to make sure whatever Video card you get has DVI and VGA (not ADC).
Look at this for compatible video cards for a Sawtooth:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/MyOWC/Upgrades.cfm?model=166&type=Video&TI=%23TimeForm at%28Now%28%29%2C&shoupgrds=ShowUpgrades
Finally, there are a host of 'flashed' PC video cards available for Mac's on Ebay. I have a few and most work fine. If you want to see some options, I suggest you look at what a seller named 'yoyomarv' has for sale. Ask questions before you buy. A card you might consider is a converted NVidia Geforce 4 Ti 4600
    It's a start...

  • Graphics card for 2 monitors with TV out function

I would like to use my H500s as the centerpiece of a Media Center. To do this it seems that  I need a new graphics card that will support at least 2 TVs/Monitors (3 would be even better). The first one is easy, my newer 50 inch TV hooks right up, but my older 33 inch TV is the problem.
From shopping around it looks like I need a card with either an S-Link along with a VGA or 2 VGAs and an adapter. Either way, the card needs to have a TV out function. It looks like I will also need to upgrade the power supply but that is a minor issue.
If anyone can suggest a card, or somewhere that I might find more information , I would be very grateful. Thanks in advance for any help with this.

The card you have should work if you get one ADC to DVI adapter

If you need more power you may be able to find one of the original upgrades used:
ATI Radeon 9600 XT with 128MB of DDR SDRAM, DVI and ADC ports
ATI Radeon 9800 XT with 256MB of DDR SDRAM, DVI and ADC ports (occupies AGP slot and adjacent PCI slot)
NVIDIA GeForce 6800 GT DDL with 256MB GDDR3 SDRAM, two dual-link DVI ports (occupies AGP slot and adjacent PCI slot)
NVIDIA GeForce 6800 Ultra DDL with 256MB GDDR3 SDRAM, two dual-link DVI ports (occupies AGP slot and adjacent PCI slot)
New, the best is probably the Radeon® X800 XT Mac Edition

  • Get "TV Out" graphics card for PAL monitor?

I'm having problems acheiving an external PAL monitor thru my camera. What if I cut out the camera with a new card for 'TV out', would this make the set-up more robust. Would the 'TV out' merely duplicate the computer monitor display? This is really frustrating, I need to see what I'm doing. Please help if you can!

It depends on what you mean by a new card. If you are talking about a Kona or Decklink - sure. A less expensive alternative may be the Canopus series of Digital Video/ Analog converter boxes. They take firewire in and output analog.

  • Mac Pro 2008 and ATI Radeon HD 5770

According to many other threads in this forum the ATI Radeon HD 5770 graphics card is said to work fine with the Mac Pro 2008 (model no. 3,1) though the Apple Store lists the Mac Pro (Mid 2010) under system requirements. Well, before I’m going to upgrade my Mac against Apple’s will, I’m just curious to know if anyone has found out why Apple restricts the compatibility to Macs from mid 2010 on. Is there an issue that affects only a small number of machines? Or is there a software incompatibility popping up under rare circumstances? What is the reason for this? Why does Apple not grant downward compatibility?

Apple does marketing and doesn't do a bang-up job on writiing technical requirements on hardware upgrades and testing. It doesn't make sense, there is no reason for not just "works with 10.6.5 or later on ALL Mac Pro models."
something nice and clear and so avoids all the questions and discussion.
    Radeon HD 5870 versus 5770
2008 has PCIe 2.0 so no lose of bandwidth.

  • Best graphics card for MacPro 5,1- 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon OS 10.6.8

    Hi everyone.
I have a 2011 MacPro 5,1- 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon. 32GB RAM OS 10.6.8 with the stock ATI Radeon HD 5770 graphics card.
When I output/process/convert video through Quicktime or iMovie or Adobe Premiere or VisualHub (not always, but usually WS multi-pass H264, best quality), it seems to take forever.
Currently (as I type this) outputting a 2 hour movie made of 14 clips of 852x480 30fps 44KHz movies to a 29.97 multi-pass H264 48KHz file with Adobe Premiere CS 5.5.2- is coming up on 10 hours.
I would like to upgrade to a better graphics card with better VRAM and processing power. I realize that being on OS 10.6.8 may create a few problems. I'm willing to upgrade to 10.7 or 10.8 if need be. Though I'd hate to lose the carbon programs that I still use (like VisualHub).
I've heard that nVidia is the way to go, but I'm not sure which card to get. The Quadro FX 4800 looks promising (and expensive).
    Anyone have any insight?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Dual or triple boot until you are sure if Lion or ML works.
GTX 570 2.5GB VRAM $320 from MacVidCards is one way to go, even GTX 680 (but that does require 10.8.x)
    Nvidia 4000 (I thought I read Nvidia has a 5000 Quadro) not the older 4800. Amazon has Q4K $800.

  • Best graphics card for After Effects CC?

Been pondering which CUDA card to get for my "Mid 2012" Mac Pro as I was sadled with a useless AMD Radeon HD 5870 by the systems builder, so even though I have 12 cores I get very little acceleration from Premiere Pro & After Effects CC when editing Canon 5D shot 1080p video.
So bottom line for a minimum spend that will also have a MiniDisplay port for my Apple Ciname screen, which of the listed Nvidia CUDA cards would you buy from the official list below?
    GeForce GTX 285
    GeForce GTX 675MX
    GeForce GTX 680
    GeForce GTX 680MX
    GeForce GT 650M
    Quadro CX
    Quadro FX 4800
    Quadro 4000
    Quadro K5000

UPDATE: I bought the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 2048 MB in the end for my Mind 2012 Mac Pro (running Maverick 10.9.3) and it worked perfectly (well the Mac hung on first boot and I discovered I had to switch off my 27" Apple Cinema Display at the wall socket to reset it and then rebooted and worked perfectly)
It has sped up playback and rendering of 1080p HD video in Premiere and After Effects, almost realtime encoding when exporting in Media Encoder (unless I use Speedgrade which slows down rendering by 4 times!)
I even managed to sell my old ATI Radeon HD 5870 graphics card on Amazon, so was a cheap upgrade in the end and well worth it.
