Is there a big difference with the SR MBPs?

ik have to option to buy (from apple) a refurbished macbookpro 17inch C2D at a great price.
i had almost decided on buying it for sure, when i realised it is the model before the santa rosa mbps.
my question is:
are the santa rosa mbps allot less buggy, or allot faster, or anything significamt or should i go with the old one.?

I have the original MBP and the new one with the Santa Rosa chipset, both 15" models---the only differences I see are a longer time between battery charges, the capability to add up to 4 GB of memory as opposed to the 2 GB limit on the older one (or 3 GB for newer "older" ones), and a little cooler.
Overall, my two MBPs seem about the same in terms of performance (slight edge to the SR MBP), and the display looks the same to me, as well. Neither are or were ever "buggy"---the older one has been a pleasure to work on, and still is. The new one is just as nice.
You can read a longer comparison I made a few weeks ago here:

  • Is there a big difference from the 2009 vs 2011 Macbook pro 15?

I also would like to know if there is a big difference between the 2009 vs 2011 macbook Pro 15"?If so is it enough to make me want a BRAND NEW MACBOOK PRO 15"?

    Yes!
    The new macbook pro has:
    1. Faster processors, with option for QUAD Core!
    2. Thunderbolt!
    3. Larger harddrive
    4. Better camera (HD)
Also, Lion is now available! If you buy the old one, you would have to pay extra to upgrade to lion later.

  • Hey guys, I was wondering ... is there a big difference between the 16 gig ram and the 8 gig for the retina series?? hardest thing I do on a laptop is play need for speed on 1080p resolution.... thanks

hey guys I was wondering ... will there be a big difference between the 8 gig and 16 gig versions of the pro retina series??? the hardest thing i do is play need for speed and program using c++...thanks

That RAM is soldered in. No sockets. No upgrading later.
    Your question is:
¿Will I EVER need the 16GB in the time I expect to own this MacBook?
--NO, save $200 and if you ever run short, sell the machine and buy a different one.
--ELSE, spend the extra US$200 and don't think about it again.

  • Why there are big differences in the prices of spare parts (hinge) ..?? particular egypt ibm

I have Lenovo 3000 N200 0769 with problem in left hinge lcd , the number of it i think (41W5214) 15.4 lcd.
lenove egypt (IBM) was told to me cost 100 $ but in Many sites (hinge) cost betwen 19 $ , 30$ , 80 $
i want to understand why there are a big difference betwen prices , and why the ibm egypt is  Highest price...!!!
i was asked  ibm egypt can replace (Repair) it , if I bought one by my self from internet , but refuse my Request and told to me you must bought it from egypt ibm !!!
    thank you

it`s hinge!!!! just Metal hinge !!??
not hardware like ram or H.d or vga.....etc
original or not it`s nothing important like other hardware must be original
if you see the hinge pic (41W5214) you will know what i mean about 80$ differences in the prices
    and
why lenovo Egypt refuse my Request to replace (Repair) it , if I bought one by my self ??
the answer is Forced to purchase an Expensive one from lenovo Egypt "kind of business" and customers not important to agree or disagree
I hope Lenovo tighten the control of the Egypt Branch, with some simplification

  • Is there a big difference between the 2.6 and the 3.0?

I am getting a macpro, and will be doing video editing with final cut. Should I spend extra for the 2 3G processors or will the 2.6 prove to be enough power for editing with final cut?

Yes the 2.66GHz is powerful enough for video editing.
Be aware that while the 3GHz is "13% more powerful" for the most part you won't notice a difference as this difference will only come into play when your cores are being saturated which they won't be. While you're editing the difference will actually be in the low single digits if anything at all.
Now, when it comes to encoding and high continuous processing the difference will be noticed. Again, not rhe full 13% as this would require a full multi-threaded efficiency of FCS and Mac OS X which there isn't. You will get around a 8-10% difference though. So, on a 10 hour encode you're looking to save less than an hour on that time. Whether that's worth the difference to you I have no idea.
If you budget is tight then you're better off spending that money on the ATi X1900 XT, RAM and hard drives.

  • Would there be a problem with the warranty in the UK if bought in USA? Plus is there a big difference between US and UK keyboards? Thanks

Hi, I'm from the UK and in the USA for a week. I'm thinking of purchasing an Air. Would there be a problem with the warranty in the UK if bought in the US? Plus is there a big difference between US and UK keyboards?
    Cheers
    G

There are subtle differences on a British layout, mainly having to do with the top line (shift numbers), to permit the use of European monetary symbols. There are a few other keys different (note the enter key).
Here are the basic layouts. Obviously the MBA won't have an eject key, as the power key resides in that location.

  • Is there a big difference between Intel Iris Pro graphics and the NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M graphics processor with 1GB of GDDR5 memory

Is there a big difference between Intel Iris Pro graphics and the NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M graphics processor with 1GB of GDDR5 memory, is it worth paying an extra $200?

Software support of graphics card is key.   If no graphics card is mentioned in software specs, then it can be ignored.  Mostly games and high end image and video graphics software are affected.

    MacBook Air, 13", Mid 2013:
On June 10, 2013, Apple released an updated MacBook Air in the same form factor as the 2012 model during the company's Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC). The 11-inch and 13-inch models have a minimum standard 4GB RAM, with a maximum configuration of 8GB. Both models are powered by the Haswell ULT 1.3GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processors with Turbo Boost up to 2.6GHz and 1.7GHz Dual-Core i7 with Turbo Boost up to 3.3GHz option available. Each model has a 128GB configuration and a 256GB configuration available, with the 256GB model being upgradeable to 512GB SSD.
    1.3 GHz (Core i5) or 1.7 GHz (Core i7)
    MacBook Air, 13", Early 2014:
On April 29, 2014 Apple released an updated MacBook Air featuring faster processors and better battery life. The standard configurations also saw a price drop in most regions.
    1.4 GHz (Core i5) or 1.7 GHz (Core i7)
MacBook Pro, 13", Retina, Late 2013:
At the Apple Special Event on October 22, 2013, Apple announced that it had updated the 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display. Both versions feature the new Intel Haswell chipset.
    2.4 or 2.6 GHz (Core i5) or 2.8 GHz (Core i7)
MacBook Pro, 13", Retina, Mid 2014:
On July 29, 2014 Apple announced updated prices and processors for their Haswell Macbook Pro with Retina Display.
    2.6 or 2.8 GHz (Core i5) or 3.0 GHz (Core i7)
I would go for the Pro Retina since the display is much better.

  • Is there a big difference?

I'm thinking about picking up a mac mini. I was thinking about just going with the 1.8Ghz, as opposed to the 2.0Ghz. I doesn't seem like there is a big advantage with going with the 2.0Ghz. Am I missing something? Thanks.

Bear in mind that there are other differences between the two models, not just the superdrive on the $799 system.
The base hard drive size is also different, with the 1.83 model having an 80Gb unit and the 2.0 a 120. Also, the cheaper system has 2Mb shared L2 cache, while the $799 model has 4Mb, in keeping with the iMac.
It's still true that more RAM in the base model will help it outperform standard RAM in the faster system, but there are some applications for which the greater cache size would be valuable - particularly given that additional RAM could be added later if funds don't stretch that far at the outset.

  • I ordered 5C I owned the 5 I was told there were major differences in the phones. I received ánd tried to activate 5C took 40 mins to activate and I had to manually install iso7 to the 5 C

I Own I phone 5 was told by rep, 5C is a lot faster, better camera and bigger screen. So I tried to activate it, to find out there are know differences between the phones.  Took rep 40 mins to activate and it says I have to install the iso7 manually.  Am I crazy that's what should of been installed before I received it.
IM TRUELY disappointed in apple we own 5 iPhones.

Either you misunderstood or you were misinformed. The iPhone 5C is virtually identical to the iPhone 5, just with a less expensive plastic case. The rep was almost certainly referring to the iPhone 5S, which is definitely faster and has a better camera among other new features and improvements. From whom did you purchase the 5C? An Apple Store? Or a dealer, and is so what dealer in what country?
As to iOS 7 not being installed on the 5C when you purchased it, I find that very difficult to believe since the 5C was released after iOS 7 was, though I can't say it's impossible. It would be highly unusual, and certainly not something Apple intended.

  • There is a difference between the document total and its components

    Hi!
I have an error message "There is a difference between the document total and its components" when I want to create an InventoryGenEntry
the problem arises from time to time and my customer must do the document two or three times before it is created.
I have seen in this forum and in notes that this is probably being caused by a Rounding.
I am using 2 digits for amounts, 4 digits for prices, 6 digits for rates and 3 digits for quantities.
For information my customer use SAP 2005 and the patch level 46.
This problem happened only in InventoryGenEntry. how can I modifiy parameters to resolve this problem?
    thank you for your help.
    Best Regards
    Séverine

    Hi Séverine,
Do you find any additional code added to SBO_SP_Transaction stored procedure. A similar issue with stock transfer fixed in later patch. Please test in latest patch.

  • After developing my picture when I go to library to export my picture there is a difference in the picture, it's not what I want it to be like, it's not what I have made it into, why ?

After developing my picture when I go to library to export my picture there is a difference in the picture, it's not what I want it to be like, it's not what I have made it into, why ?

Sometimes it takes a little time for the Library thumbnails to be updated with the changes from the Develop module.  If you flip back to the Develop module and the changes are still listed in the history tab, I would just give the Library module a little more time to update.
While waiting, you could export one or two images just to make sure the edits are properly recorded.

  • I downloaded mavericks but the install failed. The message stated there was an error with the disk which required repairing.

Help please!  I downloaded mavericks but the install failed. The message stated there was an error with the disk which required repairing. Using disk utility repair disk is not available ( greyed out) and verify disk stops and says disc requires repairing. So the online support page suggests I erase the disc and reinstall then back up from time machine ( I have a recent backup). But when I try to erase the Macintosh HD I get the message volume erase failed with the error couldn't unmount disk.
I'd be very grateful for any help anyone can give me.
I have a macbook pro 17" mid 2009-  running on snow leopard 10.6.8 ...  I lost the snow leopard disk so I don't know what to do from there ... I tried restarting by clicking SHIFT (safe mode) after the chime comes up,  but It doesnt seem to make any difference ... please help !!
    thank you sooo much
many many thanks for your hep guys !!

Whenever you install a new version of OS X being installed, the disk is checked just as if you were using Disk Utility checks the disk to see if the disk is damaged. And,, from what you report, your disk is damaged and needs to be replaced. This isn't a fault with Mavericks - your disk may have been failing for years.
It's a very good thing that you've a recent backup as you're going to need it. I would suggest that you evaluate what functionality that you need in a new disk and go shopping at OWC for a new drive - HGST (or any Hitachi), Seagate SSHDs or Toshiba drives are all good. Be sure that you buy an enclosure for the 'new' drive so that you can format it using Disk Utility before installing it into your machine - you can get one of those from OWC as well.
Good luck - call back with any questions...

  • Will increasing the memory from 4Gb to 8Gb make a big difference to the speed of my Intel Core Duo 2 Mac mini?

Will increasing the memory from 4Gb to 8Gb make a big difference to the speed of my Intel Core Duo 2 Mac mini?

Well, technically no, CPU will remain the same speed. But having 8 gig will give you some room for memory hungry apps and run better with multiple apps.
Adding a SSD drive will give a second life to your macmini. I did mine a few weeks ago (240 gb SSD ) and also went from 2 to 4 gig ram. It's like having a new computer!
    Good luck!
