Is there a big learning curve from Elements 10 to Lightroom

In a few words, yes and no. To get your comfort zone under the hoods of Photoshop Elements and Lightroom, all you have to do is to play with Lightroom... and discover your comfort zone with it.
Please note that there were some times that you can't "edit" in Lightroom like what you do in Photoshop Element (or more powerful photo editing app such as Photoshop CC), Lightroom allows you to send the file over to Photoshop Element to do specific edit, then send it back to Lightroom.
Lightroom is more of database program, not that we see all kind of crunching numbers or any kind of database functions before our eyes... it is inside the program. Don't worry too much about database thing. Nothing.
Perhaps it might be something that you are not getting used to, but there are some pretty good tutorials on how to get most out of Lightroom through Lynda dot com website or Adobe TV videos on Lightroom.

This is off the top of my head, but here goes.
I'm assuming you have Keynote on the iPad.
1- in Mail, press and hold on the image. You should see a pop up that'll say something along the lines of "Save Image". Press Save Image
2- As a sanity check, open the Photos app and look under the album/event "camera roll" or 'saved photos' Make sure said photo is there.
3-In Keynote with a preso open, press the little Picture icon in the upper right. From there, choose "media" choose the 'saved photos' or camera roll' album and then the image.

What you Mac guru's recommend for cloning a disc? I just bought a Mac Book Pro and I am on the learning curve from Windows. I have always used Acronis as I do an image and if I need to restore, I boot off the bootable cd and restore the image and everythe

I just purchased a Macbook pro laptop. I want to be able to backup and restore as I did in windows with Acronis. In Acronis I take an image of the hard drive, I can then wipe it clean, (format, Dban, etc) and boot off the acronis boot cd, go to my backup and crestore it. After the restore Windows comes up and everything from my pc before I wiped it is now there again, no reinstalling or configuring anything. And it takes about 10 mins or less.
I am looking for a package that will do the same for the MacBook. Any suggestions please?

There is no system like Acronis for the Mac platform. You can try using the buiilt in Disk Utility to create an Image of the complete Mac drive but I have found that this does not work very well as on tryiing to restore it gives errors sometimes.
You can use SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner to create a bootable Clone of your system partition. But that is only for the System partition and not the complete drive.
If you use Boot Camp to install Windows on your Mac neither of those two programs will clone the Windows side.
Neither will Disk utility as Mac's can not create or write to a NTFS partition. So some other program is need for that.

Is there a big performance boost from 2008 MacBook Pro to i7 iMac/Mac Pro?

I'm trying to determine if a new desktop is worth the investment. I have a 2008 MacBook Pro, 2.4 GHz and 4GB of RAM. I'm getting a little frustrated with it when using it with Aperture and Final Cut Express. It's just too sluggish for me.
But before I drop about $2500 on a new Mac Pro or iMac, I want to be sure I'm going to see a huge performance boost over my laptop. I'd hate to spend all the money only to find my photos and videos process only 10 or 15% faster than before. I'd like to see a new machine perform twice as fast but maybe that's unrealistic. I'm just not sure.
Can someone please tell me what I should expect? Thanks.

Converting from Elements 11 to Lightroom 4.3

I have converted my Elements 11 catalog in Lightroom 4 but almost all pictures are gray blanks and I cannot seee them or access them. Do I need to delete the catalog and try again or is there another way? Thank you.

Thank you both for your all your help. In fact, after a lot of thought and experimentation, I reached the conclusion that LR was not lying when it said it could not find the photos. I looked carefully at the path of a missing photo and discovered that one character in one of the folder names in the path was missing.
Then I recalled that I had had a system crash last year and Windows had to be re-installed. When the technician restored my backup, he somehow put all my photos into a folder which varied by one character.
When I tried to convert my Elements catalog, I (or the system) chose an old Elements catalog dating from before the crash so all the paths were inaccurate and LR was absolutelty right.
I have now deleted the offending catalog and converted the latest Elements catalog and all seems in order (sigh of relief!).
I am sorry to have wasted your time but your input did help because it made me think.

Import of Catalog from Elements 12 into Lightroom 5 not possible

Hi Guys,
I was able to import one of my different Element Catalogue’s.
Now I´m not able to select another one. As described in the help I should see a
Photoshop Elements Catalogue dialog box, but there is no possibility to change the first entry (see picture below).
Then I tested another steps:
a) first open the Elements 12 and select the wished catalog and then opened Lightroom 5 - no change
b) tried to open the pse8db file direct with lightroom 5 program - is possible but no pictures are imported.
So please could you help me?

At this time, Lightroom 5 cannot upgrade PSE 12 catalogs. Perhaps (soon) in a future version of Lightroom this will be possible.
Since I can't see your screen capture, I have no other comments at this time.

Help with loading pictures in my organizer from elements 9 trial version

I downloaded Trial Version of elements 9 last thursday. Since then I am trying to get someone at Adobe to tell me why, when I open Organizer there are NO pictures from my Pictures Albums. No help from them because they do NOT service "trail versions" WOW. cannot believe that. Someone please help. I do get an error message when I open through the "download" page. it says "cannot open because my file is the wrong type? do not understand. I previously had elements 7 on board but uninstalled it after I lost 1000 pictures and spent 3 months trying to get info as to "where are they" no one could help. So, did I do something wrong or is existing elements hiding in my hard drive stopping me from installing 9 Help need more info ie: specific file path etc. I will provide. Thank you

Some considerations with the trial of CS5: obviously, only 30 days of usage, nothing MPEG-2 is supported, and many other flavors of MPEG are also not supported. This means that you will NOT be able to ingest anything MPEG-2, likely nothing AVCHD, or similar, and you will NOT be able to use Encore for any DVD/BD authoring in the trial. Though there is no watermark, the CS5 trial is very, very limited, and one can really only edit DV-AVI, and Export to DV-AVI, or very similar.
Neale's suggestion is the best solution, IMHO. There are also freeware editors, like Womble, that might work for you, but there is a learning curve, due to the GUI.

I just found out about the switch from Elements to Adobe Revel. HELP

I do not want to spend any money on something I rarely use. I also do not want to grant "rights" to any person or corporation for my family pictures.
Will I need to delete my account?.

Hi. There is not a switch from Elements. The switch is from Photoshop.com to Revel. Elements will work as it always did with the exception of communicating with Photoshop.com sharing and storage since that service is being discontinued.
In additon, Revel is free as long as you don't want to upload more than 50 files a month.
Check out these FAQ's and try Revel. After that, if you do not want your account, we can delete it.

BUG: import from elements leads to broken directory structure

I want to migrate from Elements 4 to Lightroom.
When I start the "Import from elements" function in Lightroom the original folder structure is not presented correctly.
I'm sorry, but my directory structure in Elements is not homogeneous. Most directories are like \YEAR\SUBDIR\SUBSUBDIR\imagefile_n but some directories are nested deeper.
This confuses the "Import from elements" function in Lightroom. Most lowlevel directories are moved to toplevel, but some (!!!) directories are presented with the correct parent directories (full path).
I choose "Copy Photos To A New Location And Import" and "By Original Folders". Afterwards the original folder structure is NOT preserved correctly (as described above).
This malfunction can be reproduced at the Windows version.
When I use "Import from Filesystem" instead of "Import from Elements" the directory structure is preserved correctly.

Okay, found my own answer, finally. Ran across a posting including this line:
You can test that the catalog copy is ok by double clicking (or the Mac equivalent) on the file : catalog.pse10db. That should open the organizer with the catalog copy.
which gave me the idea to find that catalog.pse10db file. Found it, double clicked on it, and the organizer came up with all of our pictures, albums, etc. and has apparently decided that this is what we want *smile*.
So all's well that ends well.

Learning Curve for Rules - coming from HFM 9.3.3 to 11.1.2 Cal Mgr

We are currently are on 9.3.3 for HFM, Planning, and Essbase and contemplating an upgrade to 11.1.2.2. In the documents for 11.1.2.2, I read that we will have to migrate to calc manager for the rules. We are currently on the classic versions for each application rather than EPMA.
Whats the learning curve for moving to calc manager? Are people taking a class on it or picking up on their own?

I just completed an installation of 11.1.2.2 and I am testing various applications in order to assess the situation and propose to my clients.
Calculation manager is not the only way to maintain your rule file. As I have seen Oracle has discuntinued the Rule Editor but you can use any notepad to edit your rules (Notepad ++ for example) and load the rule file Workspace.
I am not really impressed from calculation manager yet. Definately in one of the following versions we will have to migrate all the rule files but I do not believe that we can do that in this version. For example in my files there is a huge issue of displaying the variables....

Images exported to LR4 from Elements and then re-exported back to LR4 do not show up there

I have just upgraded from elements 6 and LR3 to Elements 11 and LR4. I export from LR4 to Elements, adjust the image and 'save' as psd. In LR3 the saved psd would be visible alongside the original image. That doesn't happen now....which is a real pain. What can I do to make it happen, please.

One possibility is that you accidentally opened a new/different catalog.
Look at File->Open Recent and open the catalogs shown there and see if your photos appear

I'll be blunt, it's not worth "learning Dreamweaver" at all, if you don't understand html, css and basic javascripting prior to opening the program.
Without those three things, DW becomes a monstrous time sink that allows you to produce rudimentary websites that your viewers and peers will scoff at.
Now, if you do understand HTML and CSS (and to a lesser extent, javascript) running the DW tutorials from the Adobe site (hit F1 while in DW to open the Help site) will help you get up and running in no time and you'll be able to create some fairly advanced sites relatively quickly with current internet standards-compliant code.
If you don't understand code and refuse to educate yourself, as Ben says, Muse would be the way to go.

There are no student upgrades. Never have been, never will be. Your options are to either buy a new student verison or pay for the full retail upgrade price. That's always been Adobe's policy. If you are looking to jump on a cloud, then you need to contact Adobe sales for help.

Is there a big different between curve 8520 and style ?

Is there a big differnt how to use the Curve 8520 ( my current phone) and the style ?? Is the keybord much smaller and harder to use ? I just love my BB curve compared to other phones ( nokia etc) because of the keybord.. So is it much smaller on the style ? Is the screen much smaller on the style then on the Curve ??
