No, sorry.
You can change size, position, turn on magnification and Genie effect.
Best.

Problem closed (although not resolved).  After working with Apple support, no resolution was found.  I asked for a refund of the iTunes match purchase price, which was granted.  Interestingly the support tech, who was very nice if not particularly helpful from a technical point of view, spun the "resolution" of refunding my iTunes match purchase price as a positive one, here is a quote from the final email
"I'm glad to hear that you're not having issues with the songs you've purchased.  Nothing makes Apple happier than to hear that our customers concerns have been rectified."
It is notable that I never had an issue downloading music directly purchased thru the iTunes store, the only issue that existed was downloading songs that I ripped from my CD collection and "matched".
I'm happy that I received my money back, however I wish that the iTunes Match service worked for me (I was looking forward to this service).  I'm most upset at the time I wasted trying to fix this problem.
I'll now download music the old fashioned way: syncing with iTunes directly.

I use picasa for my photos..currently there is a question mark imposed over the icon on the dock and it won't open...what does this mean?
    Thanks for any help.

The icon in the dock is a shortcut to the app itself.....for some reason the icon has lost contact with the app.......go to your Applications folder and drag Picasa back to the dock....a new alias (shortcut) will be created.....

If they have 'open' next to them then that implies that they are already on your iPad - if you tap on the 'open' button does that open the app ? If it does then they are on your iPad. You've checked all your homescreens and tried a soft-reset to see if they show after the iPad has restarted : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • New to APP Store--Why is there a "2" on the Icon in the Dock?

Sorry for this naive question but I'm new to Lion. Does anyone know why there's a "2" on the APP Store icon in the dock?
    Thanks...

Open the App Store (click the icon in the dock). At the top right, you'll see an icon that is a circle with a down-pointing arrow. It is labeled "Updates". Click there to see what the App Store is suggesting you update.

  • Picture folder stack icons in the dock become folders after viewing

    Hi Everyone
I have been using img2icon to make new icons for the document folders I keep in the stacks. I have changed the stacks settings to folders to show the icon. It looks good but when I view the stack and then put them down again, the icons go and are replaced by the folder icons.
Also wondering if anyone knows how to replace application icons in the dock?
    Thank U
    Stuart

I had a similar "issue"...a simple restart solved it.

  • How to run an X11 app as a normal icon on the dock?

How to run an X11 app as a normal icon on the dock?
I don't want to have to go through the X11 app than up to the command, etc. I want it to run as a normal osx app

I've only got one X11 application, Wireshark. I have its icon on my dock -- I just dragged it to there from its location in the Finder. When I click on it (Wireshark's dock icon), X11 starts, then Wireshark starts inside X11's environment. Have you tried doing it that way with your app, or is Wireshark's behavior in that regard just a different animal from all the other X11 apps that are out there for Mac?

  • Is There A Way To LOCK Items To The Dock (to prevent accidental drag off)

Is there a way to lock items to the dock to prevent accidentally dragging them off? Every now and then, I'll accidentally drag something I just meant to click (really, I click too hard while moving my mouse) and I'll see a POOF as the icon disappears... which means I have to dig for it in the finder and replace it. D'oh!

    run the following terminal command
defaults write com.apple.dock contents-immutable -bool true; killall Dock
to unlock it change true to false in the command.

  • Replacing the Applications Icon in the Dock, not just with an Applications alias--two different things

There is at least one answer to my question posted here, except it's not quite accurate. I too accidentally yanked my Applications folder from the Dock (which, by the way, is very easy to do, so in the way is the Dock. It's just very easy to drag it or any other icon in the dock out accidentally while working in a another programs, most particularly perhaps while working furiously back and forth across the screen in a grahics program. And hiding the Dock doesn't help because one is constantly bumping the sides of the screen with the mouse. In fact, choosing to hide the Dock might make matters worse because one forgets it's there. That's what happened--I accidentally grabbed it and pulled it out.
I thought to put back an alias out of Finder and it works okay, but not like before. The old Applications icon wasn't just an alias (and I don't recall there being a shortcut symbol attached to the old Applications Icon). Now when I click on it I don't get the balloon that used to pop up dislaying all of my program as large icons. Instead I just get a Finder-style list of my applications such that it's harder to locate the program I want to use.
What I really want back is the old Icon that worked as it used to work and that installs with the orginal installation of Snow Leopard. Does anyone know how to get that one back? Thanks,

FYI - All Dock icons are aliases, however they don't show the curly arrow.
To view your folder contents as you wish, right-click on the icon and choose the view options -
"display as" 'folder' will just show the folder, 'Stack' will show the first application in the folder (usually Adress Book).
View contenta as - list or grid - no fan option when the Dock's at the side (as it sounds like yours is).
    EDIT
Incidentally, if you've dragged an alias to the Dock instead of the actual folder from Finder, you now have an alias pointing to another alias pointing to the Applications folder.
    Bit unnecesary.

  • How do I rearrange icons in the dock?

Beginning with OS X 10.1, I've always been able rearrange icons in the dock by simply dragging them to a new position. Existing icons move out of the way to make way. But not any more, not with Mountain Lion. With a lot of fiddling I can get the icon to lift out, but then no existing icons slide over to make room. Everything appears to be locked down solid.
This can't be how Apple now wants the OS to behave! Some have suggested I trash the system preferences in order to restore flexibility. Something I'm very reluctant to do.
I strongly suspect Apple has "hardened" the dock to protect the careless user. Holding down Option, Command and/or Control has no effect.
Surely there must be a new technique for re-arranging icons, but what is it?
    With kind regards,

Yes, that does work. However the OS puts up great resistence. Formerly the OS accommodated smoothly, like silk. Now it's as if the OS is testing my intention all the way. Finally, reluctantly lets go.
    Thanks for the help.

  • Locking icons in the dock

Does anyone know if Lion will have the ability to lock icons in the dock?  My elderly father is constantly dragging icons off the dock.  I know I can create an administrator account and lock it that way in parental controls and also I can type some commands in Terminal to lock them, but since I live so far away, I think it would be a whole lot easier for Apple to just place the option in the system prefs for everyone.  Seems a no brainer to me.  I even occasionally knock some items off the dock and curse trying to figure out which one I did.
Or, is Apple getting rid of the dock in Lion?
    Dan

Joey,  Works beautifully.  Thanks for the link.  I'll install it on my dad's computer through ichat tomorrow!
    Thank you!
On a side note, I hope Lion will be more elderly friendly.  I wish there were a way to customize alert messages for when my dad tries to install software he doesn't need or tinker with things he shouldn't.  "Dad, you don't need this. Stop!"  or  "Call me first before installing."
    Thanks again.

  • Icons in the dock disappear on wakeup

since upgrading to Mavericks, application icons in the Dock disappear on wakeup or even after full restart.
sometimes it helps if I click on the placeholder in the Dock - it starts the application and the icon re-appears. at other times they all appear ok if I restart the computer.

    Back up all data.
In the Finder, hold down the option key and select
    Go ▹ Library
from the menu bar. From the Library folder, move the following items to the Trash, if they exist:
    Application Support/Dock
    Caches/com.apple.dock
and move the following items to the Desktop:
    Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.dock.*.plist
    Preferences/com.apple.dock.db
    Preferences/com.apple.dock.plist
Here “*” stands for a long string of letters and numbers.
Next, triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    open $TMPDIR../C
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing the key combination command-V. A folder should open. Inside it there may be a file named "com.apple.dock.iconcache". If there is, drag it to the Trash.
Log out, log back in, and test. If you still have the issue, put the items on the Desktop back where they came from and post again. Otherwise, delete the items.

Also experiencing some funky issues with my wireless keyboard. With new batteries, it will just stop functioning. Certain keys intermittently won't work. Also the fans go on as soon as I turn the computer on - some times they stay on and sometimes they don't. Ever since upgrading the operating system - I've been having many issues with this iMac. Not happy. Any answers out there?

Thanks for your reply LexSchellings, There is no disc in the drive and I went through the suggestions you put forward on the phone with Apple support without any luck. I can put a disc in but it pops straight back out again without registering on finder.
The idea of using an external drive was to enable me to avoid the cost and loss of productivity whilst machine in repair... if I have to take it in to get the old drive removed than I might as well have a new internal drive put in, although I do worry about the reliability of these apple drives given my experience with this one coupled with my limited online research ... on line forums seem to be full of people with the same problem (although perhaps searching such forums is bound to make it seem a common problem as users with perfectly working machines are less likely to post (?)) Your reply suggests that no external drive will work whilst the existing drive is in place.
As a postscript: I do realise that this is a user forum ...my secondary question was asking if anyone knows how to put forward a case/complaint to Apple... I can't find a link on the support page that would enable me to do so and I was wondering if anyone on this user forum had any ideas/experience..
