Recently- already posted- my iMac has not been shutting down properly. Now- it has stopped booting. Not every time but enough to frighten me ( it's still under guarantee!). Today, when dealing with a really important document it wouldn't fire up until I unplugged it and counted to 20. On another front, my iPhone 4s is refusing to boot ( although with plenty of charge) unless I do the usual and plug it into the charger and depress the on/off and home buttons. Today both things happened simultaneously and I wonder whether "the Cloud" is somehow causing problems. Or do I have two separate but coincidental hardware problems. Any ideas?

I can't imagine any scenario where iCloud woud cause either one of those problems. It is coincidence.

Hello ..do you have a history on the phone? did you get it wet? was it dropped? have you been using an authentic ORIGINAL apple charging cable?
this problem occurs when there is a short circuit in the phone... you most likely got it wet at some point and maybe didnt even realize it? The moisture in the phone hasb probablly oxidized one or several capacitors, integrated chips thereby short circuiting the phone. that is why he phone is acting erratic because these short circuits inadvertently "activates" other circuits.. eventually the phone will not turn on anymore- the heat will stress the citcuit board and you will have discontinuity along your main power lines and the phone will cease to function..i see this alllll the time in our shop
the fact you upgraded to ios6 will even work the phone harder because its a more powerful operating system taking full advantage of the A4 chip..

Lost ability to connect to the internet on my desktop after installing Mavericks on my laptop, is there a connection?

I recently installed Mavericks on my laptop. I have an Ethernet cable I connect to my modem to gain access to the internet. I have another Ethernet cable I use on my desktop computer and I connect THAT cable to the modem when I want to gain access on the desktop. Right now, I have access to the internet on my laptop but not on my desktop. The internet service provider checked everything and could not find a problem. They suggested I contact Apple. Is there any connection between my recent upgrade to OS X Maverick on my laptop and my internet connection issue on the desktop? Last thing, the internet service provider suggested that the problem lies in some setting or preference...Thank you in advance!

Unless you router is an Apple Airport, I doubt that updating your laptop would have changed anything, but who knows.
I would recommend trying to hold the reset button on your router for 30 seconds. This may fix the issue, but this will probably erase all of your router's settings like wifi passwords and stuff like that.

If you don't want to risk completely resetting your router, I would suggest trying the following:
– On your laptop (which has a connection)
– Go to System Preferences >> Network >> Advanced >> TCP/IP
– Write down the IP number next to "Router"
– – – Mine looks like this:    192.168.1.125
– Go to your browser (Safari etc.) and go to     http://RouterIP
– – – Where "RouterIP" is the number you wrote down before. Mine looks like this:    http://192.168.1.125
This will take you to your router's settings page.
It will probably ask you for a username and password. They probably are:
User:    admin
password:   admin
or
User: admin
Password:   your router/wifi password
Look all the settings on this site and see if everything is set to reasonable values.

If all else fails, then it's probably something to do with the settings on your desktop PC.

Is there a connection between the performance and the number of photos?

Is there a connection between the performance of LR 4 (LR 5) and the number of photos in the catalog? Will it slow down LR with a directory of more than 40,000 images (Win7, 4 Gb RAM)?

I use lots of smart and dumb collections, lots of keywords too, also on Win7/64 though with 12Gb of Ram.
Have you read through Optimizing performance, especially running a File > Optimize. Also Performance hints is more handy for troubleshooting.

You have to use Oracle9i to get iSQL*Plus. iSQL*Plus is available on Windows in Oracle9i Release 9.0.1, and on most other platforms in Oracle9i Release 9.2.0.

IMac intel 2006 has Airport, but theres no connection

My iMac 2006 Intel has an Airport Card but theres no connection and the airport symbol is not in the menu at the desktop screen!!!!

Is this a new problem - was it working previously?
Have you tried the simple stuff first - a restart, check System Preferences>Network, is Airport (WiFi) listed as an option, is the 'show in menu bar' item ticked?
In the Apple Menu>About this Mac, is Airport/Wifi listed under Network, and if selected does it give any information about the Airport card installed?

In my effort to get access in 'YouTube" steaming videos, I tried to find the scope available in Nokia 3110C handset. After going through the Menu icons, I identified one Menu Item in the path : MAIN MANU>MEDIA>MEDIA PLAYER>GO TO ADDRESS. It is...rtsp://. The help message states ...'Lets you manually enter Web Address...'. I entered : ' rtsp//m.youtube.com. The response was a Note which reads - Check Connection Settings... Again I followed the above path : MAIN MANU>MEDIA>MEDIA PLAYER>STREAM SETT. I click the Stream Settings. The nesponsing note : 'No Settings found. Contact your Service Provider'. So, from the above discussion the net learning I got is I must have the Stream Settings to get YouTube going in my Set. My querry is : Whare those settings and what is the source in getting those settings ? I understood the rtsp (Real Time Stream Protocol) is more versatile than HTTP and MMS in getting Streaming data (numerical, photograph/radio). Please suggest.

I experienced same problem with my 3110c handset. At first the STREAMING SETT was shadowed dark with a restriction to get access there. Later I got contact with BSNL (my SP). After downloading the settings I discovered that the shadowy patch over Streaming Sett. has gone. It now shows an entry ..."bsnlstream."
So far an attempt was made to activate the Youtube, a message reminds me that the software of 3110C is not supporting such application.

Scheduled shutdown stops if there are connections

My Mac Pro acts as a server in my home. I used to run it 24/7 with an occasional reboot when things seemed a bit amiss. So I decided to schedule a shutdown at midnight and startup at 6AM everyday. Because it is my server, I connect to it from my other Macs. But when the schedule tries to shutdown, it warns that a user is sharing this computer and will not shutdown until I click the restart button.
Is there a way for me to skip this step or to force a shutdown w/o this warning coming up? Seems this step negates the scheduling of shutdowns/restarts.

Here the thing.. what happens when the user clicks the "shut down" button in the warning? The answer.. exactly what should happen without the warning. Users are disconnected and then the shut down processes intiated.
All the moumbo jumbo about data loss etc. is just panic-talk. If a file transfer is actually in progress the OS knows it and therefore prevents shutdown (and disconnect). It's VERY clear that markwmsn has no clue what he's posting about and is merely an Apple fanboy.
Face it, The OS gets worse and worse. This is one of those processes which has ran flawlessles since, heck OS8. Now markwmsn wants us to beleive there's a reason it no longer works as expected. He's just full of it and making excuses for things he doesn't know about.
Apple, please fix your shut down scheduler.

My computer has been running "dial up" slow since the last update of Fire Fox. Is there any connection?

My computer was just updated to a higher speed connection and was doing good speed wise even before. Now it takes forever to load or navigate in all capacities, that is until I got to this site and I can click as fast as I can here and there is no slow down. Will go back to my home page and see how bad it is there. My wife has a Mac laptop and she even said that since the new update, Fire Fox has been running a little weird concerning the opening of a new window unexpectedly. Really want to see if there is anyone else that might be having similar issues with their computers after the new update.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:

Using Photoshop elements 13 and windows 8.1. After one week, Photoshop elements photo editor will nit load. This occurred after I scanned in some large files. Is there a connection?

Not only will photo editor not load from organizer@@@@, it wont load at all on my computer. What happened? more importantly how do I fix it?

I've got things working now. The process I followed was:
1. Reboot in safe mode
2. Run Photoshop elements. It worked in safe mode.
3. Unplug the network cable
4. Restart in normal mode
5. Run Photoshop elements. It worked with the cable unplugged.
6. Exit out of Photoshop
7. Plug in the network cable
8. Now Photoshop seems to start up normally.
It seemed to me that the problem had something to do with license validation. In safe mode there's no network connection, which might disrupt validation. When I left out steps 3, 4 and 5, it still didn't work. After doing that once, it seems to work. If it stops working, I'll post another reply here.
YMMV.
