Is there a definitive way to get iTunes match to recognise my tracks?

Ok, I have taken the plunge and started iTunes match, I have quite a lot of songs, (over 17,000) and the results are interesting, I have quite a lot of Vinyl rips and MP3's from emusic, amazon etc, so I wasn't surprised when iTunes couldn't match everything.
I know the uploading can be an issue here depending on Internet speeds (and although downloads are Ok, as expected upload speed is pretty risible) so I would like to remove necessity to upload as many tracks as I can (some hope).
At the moment I have over 4,000 tracks that iTunes couldn't match!
I have been busy over the years digitizing my vinyl records, but not that busy, 4,000 tracks!
On closer examination it seems that there are issues over certain tracks in albums, and whole albums, the majority of these are direct rips from the cd's using iTunes!?
Some albums appear not to have been accepted as a match because of punctuation and spelling differences, I assume I can change these manually in options, but others have just left me a bit confused to as why they haven't been matched, in most cases in most cases an album has been matched bar one song.
Is there any thing anyone know of that I can do to sort these problems out.
I suppose going back and ripping CD's is an option, but it fills me with a bit of dread having to dig out my old CD's and basically re-rip for potentially on track on a whole album, and this is also true of the MP3's

You will never get a 100% match rate. If you are expecting to, you will be disappointed. The hard fact is, because of a variety of reasons, some songs will not be matched despite being availble on the iTunes Store. About the best you can expect is an 80% match rate for tracks not bought from the iTunes Store (most iTunes Store purchases will have an iCloud Status of "purchased" and do not count against the 25k track limit). Vinyl rips will have a lower match success rate. Changing ID3 tags will have little to no effect on whether a track is matched or not as the service does not use ID3 tags.

After moving my itunes library to a new hard drive and consolidating it most of my 1000's of songs have an ! mark next to them, which means that itunes can't find that song, movie or tv show. I can individually click on each song, movie or tv show, and direct itunes where to find it and then it's fine, but it would take me the rest of my life to do that to everything I've got. I looked this issue up and found a couple of recent posts of the same question, but the solutions posted have in fact made the situation worse not better. The issue is with my iTunes on 1 hard drive 750gig on my G5 which is running itunes 7.4.2 and Mac OS 10.4.10. This is not a new problem as I have had this on my imac as well when I transferred music to it rather than downloading fresh from a cd.

the solution I tried was to drag the library.xml from the itunes folder to the desktop and then open itunes and do file/import/choose and choose the library.xml on the desktop. After doing this I found that the songs I had loccated manually for itunes were now "Lost" again.

I run itunes from an external hard drive as I have too much itunes for my laptop! Part of my "back up" process is to always copy the "itunes library" and "itunes music library.xml" anytime after I buy/add music or change a playlist. Regardless of where your library is kept, those two documents on your hard drive in your music/itunes folder determine your library.
One time I had a hard drive failure and had to reinstall all my itunes stuff (I always back everything up to another hard drive and on dvd). I had not backed up since the last time I had purchased music/tv. When I dragged the two documents to my music folder on my hard drive, the most recent files didn't show up. They were in the music folder, but not appearing in the interface. I had to re-import them through itunes. No biggie. It was only a couple of files and I knew which ones weren't there.

Hopefully you moved the entire iTunes Media (or iTunes Music) folder to a new path on your external drive. Copy your iTunes library folder out to the root of the external drive, e.g. X:\iTunes (where X: is your external drive), then move the media folder inside it. Hold down shift as you start iTUnes and keep holding untila asked to choose or create a library. Choose the library at X:\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl. Should all be good.
Failing that, download and run my FindTracks script and point it at the new location of your media folder.

thanks for the reply. guess i'll have to do that. apple, not really happy with what you've done with this latest update. have not been able to enjoy my music in my car since the update. most of us dont mind changes that progress timely, but this was much more than just a progression. this was a complete change. and not a good one, at all. thanks to the two people that replied. appreciate it.

Have you been syncing the iPod with iTunes? Then you just connect the iPad and set it up through iTunes and sync any content you want onto it.

In terms of games/apps. If they are not universal (you will see a + symbol next to them) or made for iPad (you would see an HD in the name, usually) then they won't look good on an iPad as those apps will open in a iPod sized window, giving you the option to enlarge.

Apple's official advice is here... HT2905 - How to find and remove duplicate items in your iTunes library. It is a manual process and the article fails to explain some of the potential pitfalls.
Use Shift > View > Show Exact Duplicate Items to display duplicates as this is normally a more useful selection. You need to manually select all but one of each group to remove. Sorting the list by Date Added may make it easier to select the appropriate tracks, however this works best when performed immediately after the dupes have been created. If you have multiple entries in iTunes connected to the same file on the hard drive then don't send to the recycle bin. Use my DeDuper script if you're not sure, don't want to do it by hand, or want to preserve ratings, play counts and playlist membership.See this thread for background and please take note of the warning to backup your library before deduping.

What happened to the phone. Did it just go black? Did you try to plug it into Itunes and see if it can be seen or throw it on the charger. You can still try the reset procedure listed in http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430 and see if the phone turns back on.
The only way to get things back is to have backed them up ahead of time.

is there any other way to get Adobe Captivate specific help? I've posted a question twice with no help, it's very specific, so no one here might actually know the solution. I'm wondering though, since the chat is obviously not for Captivate users with product or service questions.

P.S. I'll post the problem again here:
We publish mp4 training videos as HTML5 content and have the problem that we need to restrict the player to only play/pause.
Adobe Captivate 7 works fantastic for us on almost all devices, many Androids, many browsers, and even on iPad. Captivate, after adding the video as a multi-slide video to one slide and publishing it as HTML5 content, only lets the student play and pause the video - just what we need.
But then we test it on iPhone and the iPhone's internal quicktime player recognizes the mp4 video and kicks in, gives the student all the functions they want, totally overrides the HTML5 published Captivate restricted playback options.
Is there ANY way we can get around that? Any function or box we haven't checked before publishing the HTML5 content?
We would even be happy, if the video wouldn't play on iPhone - just as long as they can't use it to fast forward to the end of the video.
Does anyone here know how to bypass the internal iPhone 5 player?

What is the best way to get iTunes running on my Windows 7 64 bit system without installing it on my Windows 7 64 bit system?

I had iTunes installed on XP before upgrading my system and with all the install and uninstall issues I don't want to go through the same thing with Windows 7.
So, I'm looking for a way to get iTunes running on my system without installing it (like maybe in a Virtual OS on VirtualBox or VMWare.)
Something that I can easily restore and/or repair (Windows 7 Restore Points/backup options are not viable because they restore EVERYTHING to the state they were in when they were created.)

I did that on XP so I know better now!
Here is just 1 example of many:
On XP the uninstall wouldn't work so I coudn't upgrade iTunes. In order to fix this without Re-Installing XP, I had to delete iTunes and then manually remove it from the registry and from Add/Remove programs before I could Install the new version. Eventualy it did work after 1 and a half days of repairs...
I'm not going through the same type of problems on Windows 7 that just simply waste my time!
