Is there a desktop app to control apple tv?

I have an entirely apple home. Even so, often times the kids have the iPads or iTouch upstairs and the little silver remote for the apple TV is usually lost in the couch. I find it hard to believe that there isn't an app available on the iMac desktop app store that will control your apple TV. Can anyone help? Thanks!

Since dsharrow mentioned it, I use AC-7 Core on my iPad all the time. I can sit on my midi drum kit across the room and hit record on the iPad to start Logic 9. Since my iMac is across the room I have a 2nd HDMI monitor set to mirror mode that is close to my kit. This makes it easy to view my timeline while recording. While using the wireless Apple Trackpad resting on one of my tom-tom pads I can actually make simple edits on the fly. I could also use the App; SplashTop Remote as well but then I wouldn't be able to use AC-7 Core at the same time. Hope this gives you some options to think about.

Apps are permanently tied to the ID used to purchase them.
Go to https://appleid.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MyAppleId.woa/ and re-set th password for the old one.
Then, log into the app store with it and update the apps purchased with that ID.

Appearantly, the app that we all see at the Apple Stores (the App on the desktop that lets you launch things...and no, NOT the DOCK) is proprietary. However, I found this link which offers a simliar look and feel.

Are you referring to the built-in Application Switcher?
Handy for switching Apps without using the mouse/cursor.
While you have more than one application running, hold down on the Command(Apple) key, then touch the Tab key.
You should get a big Dock-like window open on the screen, that lets you change apps with the Tab key, or the cursor.
Keep hitting the Tab key while holding down the Option key.
Whichever icon is highlighted, is the App the Finder will bring forward when you release the Option key.
You can also use the left & right arrow keys to advance to the next application.
Hit Q to quit or H to Hide while tabbing:
Quit any currently running app by cycling to it, then pressing the letter “q” (don’t let go of the Command key; keep holding it while you press the letter “q”). Still holding the Command key, press “h” to hide the highlighted app.

There is no such app currently for the ATV. No one in these forums has any way of knowing if such an app will ever exist.

Multi-Factor Authentication desktop app?

Is there a desktop app (Win 7/8) for authenticating against Azure Multi-Factor? I've currently got a MFA provider spun up in Azure and the server installed on prem. We are currently testing with it for two factor authentication to an RDS deployment
and it seems to work well. So far I've used both the phone call and text authentication methods and I'm working on getting the mobile app piece to work.
We do have some instances though where users my not have dedicated cell phones. Is there an app that can be installed on the desktop and works with the Azure MFA that will allow them to two factor auth? Perhaps allowing them to use a known pin
to generate a one time passcode?

No, there isn't one. There *might* be one coming with windows 10 and universal apps, but then again, being able to just use an app on the PC you are accessing the resource from kinda negates the whole value of the additional auth Factor.
MFA is not limited to mobile phones only, use a regular one if needed. Or even an OATH token. Lastly, you can always fallback to the security questions, since you have the MFA server.

Any apps to launch other apps - like control centre?

I bought a waterproof case for my iPhone 5 to use the camera for snorkelling. The problem was it turned out not to be that waterproof in use (despite following the testing and cleaning instructions).
So the phone is now water damaged. It seems perfectly functional with the exception the home button doesn't work (and a bit of corrosion around the charching port). So I can launch an App, but then I'm stuck in that App and have to power down the phone and restart to get access to a different App, then repeat for the next App. Pretty frustrating.
Control center, being accessible by swiping up gives me access to the few features it supplies, but it would be great if there was an App like control center that allowed me to launch any apps I specify. Alternatively, a way to remap the the home button with the sleep button.
Ideally I'd like to try to limp by with the phone until the next round of updates. A repair seems about the same price as a new phone so doesn't seem worth it.
Any ideas (other than the one we shouldn't mention here)?

As a follow up question, any way of disabling Voice Control?
The home button seems to be gradually coming back to life. But is pressing itself and launching Siri. I tried to disable Siri but that just replaced it with Voice Control, which is even worse as it is recognising background noise and has now made 10 international phone calls by itself!
I thought I'd be clever and enable Siri again, then restrict Siri, but that just reactivates voice control.
I've scoured system settings but can't find an obvious to disable it.
Any thoughts?

Only Apple can add apps to Apple TV. You can send feedback to Apple requesting that addition & contact the CW network people requesting the same thing.

Eg I want to listed to my music through apple tv (which is in the living room) and beam it to my airplay speakers in my bedroom, at the moment I would have to go back into the living room to see my tv screen to select the bedroom airplay speakers, then go back upstairs to listen to the music. YOu should be able to select the speakers in app without looking at the TV screen. Hopefully that makes sense!?!

Is there any way the Creative Cloud desktop app can indicate which Market items have already been downloaded?

Hi, I'm not sure whether this is a general issue with the Creative Cloud desktop app, or something is going wrong with my installation, but I receive seem to receive no indication that I have already downloaded an item when I open CC --> Assets --> Market. Looking in my Libraries, I now find some items I've downloaded up to 4 times. Is there some indication I am missing? Is my installation of CC desktop messed up? Or should I suggest that there should be some indication of whether an item has been downloaded or not on that Market page in the app? Even when I go specifically to downloaded items, none of those items has the cloud with the arrow icon grayed out. The only time that icon grays out is when I download the item and keep that page/window open to download other items. As soon as that page/window is closed, the next time I open it, all icons are no longer grayed out, so I no longer have a clue as to what I downloaded unless I open my libraries in my browser. Seems a bit primitive.

Hi Elba, Thank you for your time and effort in researching this. Unfortunately, the above method you describe is more than a little awkward. When one shows the Downloaded window, as you illustrate, that greys out all the individual categories. So, if I were looking for brushes, I'd have to check if I already had it by going to the downloaded window, then navigate back to brushes by first going to Featured or Recent, and then to Brushes, (even All Categories is not clickable, though it looks active). I'd also need to have a very, very good memory, or be going back and forth very often, with how close some brushes appear, and how similar their names are.
Instead, in a browser window, I go to my library from my adobe.com page, so I can see what brushes I have while the window where I can download brushes is open:
However, this still seems awkward to me. Adobe could grey out the icons to indicate they had already been downloaded, while still allowing them to be clickable and downloadable. I guess more code would be needed. I see examples of this every day in both Apple's app store, and Google's play store. For that matter, even the Adobe CC desktop app itself informs me of what Desktop Apps I have installed on each computer, and even whether they need to be updated. I guess, though, the situation for all of those is a bit different, not being quite so cloud-based.

Hi, if the App is in the Dock, right click, choose Options>Open at login.
Or System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window, drag the App there or click on the tiny plus icon to add it.

Does Apple still use a checksum hash (or take other steps) to prevent Songbird media player desktop app from opening?

Hello. I've downloaded and installed Songbird for Mac desktop three times. When I try to open the application its icon briefly appears in the dock, but after several seconds it crashes without opening. My MacPro meets and exceeds the listed software requirements. Any ideas why the app won't open? According to http://www.zdnet.com/blog/open-source/what-might-end-apples-open-source-pass/313 0, "For those unfamiliar with the story, Apple began "protecting" its iTunesDB file (necessary for syncing) with a checksum hash in September 2007. This kept people from using other music programs like Winamp and Songbird, alongside iPod files." That's ancient history now, and Apple does even allow the Songbird mobile app for iPhone. There is no Songbird app in the App Store though, and attempts to open the desktop app file downloaded from Songbird's site result in the problem described.
Possibility: I have a large iTunes music library - 16K+ songs - would Songbird refuse to open due to potential stability issues with importing a library that size?

Based on that info I opened Terminal and entered
/Applications/Songbird.app/Contents/MacOS/songbird -ProfileManager &
This opened a small dialog box that allowed me to specify a default user (but would not allow the default user name to be re-named). I was then able to go through several windows and opt to have my iTunes library imported, to have several Songbird apps imported, and to not provide user details. The window then closed, and the Songbird icon again disappeared from the dock. Crash.
Meanwhile, the Terminal app now displayed
this.addToLibrary is null in SBPlaylistCommand_AddToLibrary ?!!
I then entered the original command again, opened the default user box again, but then the default user dialog box closed and again the Songbird icon disappeared from the dock. Crash.
Attempted to open Songbird from the Applications folder with the same result: the default user box appeared briefly, then closed and the Songbird icon disappeared from the dock. Crash.
Any other ideas that might help this to open, or does Apple feel threatened and is therefore preventing users from accessing the app?

Songbird working exactly how it should here under Mountain Lion 10.8.2 Maybe try uninstalling as per manufacturer's instructions and reinstalling most recent version. I would be hesitant to muck around with a non responsive program as such with Terminal before exploring other Troubleshooting Paths such as other Third Party conflicts. Have you installed any anti-virus software? MacKeeper, Little Snitch or similar? Can you post a crash report. That may help further.But definately working as it should here.
