Is there a difference in Premier and After Effects Performance in terms of intel or AMD?

Is there a difference in Premier and After Effects Performance in terms of intel or AMD?  Forget the speed issue, assume that the processors are of comparable speed and also assume that the system is built beyond recommended requirements.  When it comes to reliablility and performance of either processor working and managing data with CS5, is there a difference?  I am looking to build a computer with multiple CPU's so i7 if out as well (unless you can convince me that have only one CPU is better than building with multiple)  Thanks for reading and I'm looking forward to any help you may give me!  Bow.

See Harm, this is why I am a BIG fan of your post!!!  Also thank you John for responding as well.  I have been wrestling with purchasing a new computer for months now looking for a CS5 CPU, trying to find the most economical purchase.  The last computer I had bought was specifically for CS2 and I spent over $8500 dollars for it in 2006.  A dual XEON 2.80 with Hyperthreading.  Back then I thought I had a great machine, but now looking at what I paid for, i feel much wiser.
I have seen the benchmark test and studied it closely, but until this post, I didn't know how the results translated into real world results.  I figured out pretty quickly AMD is no where near to Intel currently.
I am looking to edit primarily with AVCHD and will be using After Effects extensively.  So of course, I want processor speed and plenty of RAM.  But it gets expensive.  Sandy Bridge looks like an option but there is a RAM limitation and the recent problems with it.  i7 processors look like a good option but they are also 24 gig limitation.  Of course dual CPU Xeon gives me unlimited RAM practically, BUT i have a limited budget.
So in looking at the Benchmark Test, (which I love, but can't equate to real world applications - i.e. Time Savings between results - because i don't know what the length of the footage is) it has been hard to gauge a cost/gain benefit when choosing my next machine.
I noticed your results are 65.0 to ADK's 35.0 under the h.264 CPU performance.  I guess I am asking what is that in a real world time crunch difference?
P.S. I do realize that the ADK results aren't average.  If you wish, you may reference the #1 system with the top average of 45.0 under the h.264 CPU performance to give me an idea on comparision.  Also, I noticed your machine is overclocked.  Does overclocking make CS5 any less stable?
Thanks for all you do Harm, I appreciate your dedication to us Adobe followers.  You to John!
(sorry it has taken some time to respond)
Also, I noticed you are using Areca ARC-1680iX-12.  Nice!

  • Is (4770 3.5 i7 qouad core 8 mb cach) good enough for premier and after effect?

    Hi guys,
    am buying the new imac 27" with its maximum features: 32 GB, 1 TB ssd, NVidia gtx 780 with 4GB, but I am worried about the cpu (4770 3.5 i7 qouad core 8 mb cach) is it good enough for premier and after effect?

    Thanks John, but I've already read that page. I have just a simple question about the performance of "4 core" and "6core" if anyone had already tried both of them.

  • I'm thinking about getting the "complete" student plan for CC ($20). Do premier and After effects come with it?

    It just says "photoshop illustrator and more". Does that mean Premier and AE? Thanks.

    Which web page are you reading?
    You get everything shown on this page providing you've got the operating system and hardware to run Premiere and AE

    Note that they are 64 bit apps so they require a 64 bit operating system.
    If you're running Windows 7 or 8 32 bit then you won't be able to install or run them.

  • Premiere and After effects no longer work after graphics card upgrade

    So heres my problem. A week ago my gtx 295 died. So I got a new gtx 780 and new ram. After installing my new card and installing the latest drivers premier and after effects cs6 crash on the splash screen. Whats wierd is these are the only programs that crash. After effects cs4 works fine along with all my maya stuff. I reinstalled premier and it still crashes for some reason.
    I'm running vista ultimate 64bit with the cs6 production suite. I do have some plugins on after effects including the trapcode suite amd optical flares.
    Any tips?

    The only thing I can think of is that Windows Vista is not one of the supported operating systems for Premiere Pro CS6. Only Windows 7 is listed. Is it possible to upgrade your OS?

  • I need Photoshop, Illustrator, Premier, and After Affects.  Which plan would be cheapest?

    I am a graphic designer that is very familiar with Photoshop and I'm getting into Illustrator.  I am beginning to create videos so I need After Affects to create graphics and Premier to edit video.
    On second thought.  I need Photoshop and Illustrator.  But I want to be able to create graphics like intros, banners, text etc. in videos.
    Do I need both Premier and After Affects, or not?
    Which would be the best plan to get? I am not sure which plan to buy and am very confused.  Thanks.

    Photography plan is $9.99 for Photoshop and Lightroom... and then $19.99 each for individual programs... the entire plan looks to be a better deal for you

  • Want to use Premier Pro and After Effects but don't want to buy CC

    I have CS6 Design/Web Premium standalone edition and want to add Adobe CS6 Premier Pro and CS6 After Effects Standalone to the group.
    I've downloaded the trial versions of Premier pro and After Effects to get me past this recent job issue, but I may need to purchase it after the trial runs out.
    If the job I've got pending does not pan out I'll go back to using Final Cut X and Motion.
    But if it does pan put I'll want to buy the standalone versions as I'm not into Hacking and Kracks.
    I do not like the idea or want to "upgrade" to CC so please no suggestions about this.
    Any clues. For some reason I'm not able to ask Adobe directly as they do not appear to supply and email address to be contacted, and I'm now on this forum sharing my questions to the community.
    Anyone out there with an idea to help in this regard?

  • Is there a difference between AirPrint and printing via usb printer plugged into an airport extreme?

    My printer does not show up in the add a printer option on my iMac when plugged into the extreme. I have a HP officejet 5610 All-in-One. I want to be able to print wirelessly using my Airport Extreme.  Thank you

    Is there a difference between AirPrint and printing via usb printer plugged into an AirPort Exreme?
    Big difference.
    AirPrint for one will not work via USB, so you will not be able to print from an iOS device like an iPhone or iPad using this type of connection unless you look at additional software....that may or may not allow this option.
    Assuming that you get the All-in-One setup using the USB port on the AirPort.......only printing is supported.
    You will not be able to use any other advanced features like maintenance, scan, copy, fax, etc when the device is connected to the USB port on an AirPort.
    If you plan to use the HP for other things, I would strongly recommend that you connect it to your computer.
    My printer does not show up in the add a printer option on my iMac when plugged into the extreme.
    This usually indicates that your printer model is not supported. Check with HP Support to see if they have any updated Macintosh drivers for the 5610 that you could download and install that might allow this.

    Is there a difference between Thrive and Excite power connector? I am asking because there are a lot of Docks for Thrive 10" tablets....... If the power connector is the same, I should be able to dock my Excite 10" onto the same Dock, and purchase a similar poer adapter?
    What are your thoughts - is it possible?

    As far as I know AC adapter for Thrive uses 30W and Excite only 10W AC adapter.
    Have you checked specification for both devices.

  • Why there is implicit commit before and after executing DDL Statements

    Hi Guys,
    Please let me know why there is implicit commit before and after executing DDL Statements ?

    This is because Oracle has design it like this.Come on Helyos, that's a bit of a weak answer. :)
    The reason is that it makes no sense to update the structure of the database whilst there is outstanding data updates that have not been committed.
    Imagine having a column that is VARCHAR2(50) that currently only has data that is up to 20 characters in size.
    Someone (person A) decides that it would make sense to alter the table and reduce the size of the column to varchar2(20) instead.
    Before they do that, someone else (person B) has inserted data that is 30 characters in size, but not yet committed it.
    As far as person B is concerned that insert statement has been successful as they received no error, and they are continuing on with their process until they reach a suitable point to commit.
    Person A then attempts to alter the database to make it varchar2(20).
    If the database allowed that to happen then the column would be varchar2(20) and the uncommitted data would no longer fit, even though the insert was successful. When is Person B going to find out about this? It would be wrong to tell them when they try and commit, because all their transactions were successful, so why should a commit fail.
    In this case, because it's two different people, then the database will recognise there is uncommitted transactions on that table and not let person B alter it.
    If it was just one person doing both things in the same session, then the data would be automatically committed, the alter statement executed and the person informed that they can't alter the database because there is (now) data exceeding the size they want to set it to.
    It makes perfect sense to have the database in a data consistent state before any alterations are made to it, hence why a commit is issued beforehand.
    Here's something I wrote the other day on the subject...
    DDL's issue a commit before carrying out the actual action
    As long as the DDL is syntactically ok (i.e. the parser is happy with it) then the commit is issued, even if the actual DDL cannot be executed for another reason.
    Example...
    We have a table with some data in it...
    SQL> create table xtest as select rownum rn from dual;
    Table created.
    SQL> select * from xtest;
            RN
             1We then delete the data but don't commit (demonstrated by the fact we can roll it back)
    SQL> delete from xtest;
    1 row deleted.
    SQL> select * from xtest;
    no rows selected
    SQL> rollback;
    Rollback complete.
    SQL> select * from xtest;
            RN
             1
    SQL> delete from xtest;
    1 row deleted.
    SQL> select * from xtest;
    no rows selectedSo now our data is deleted, but not committed, what if we issue a DDL that is syntactically incorrect...
    SQL> alter tab xtest blah;
    alter tab xtest blah
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-00940: invalid ALTER command
    SQL> rollback;
    Rollback complete.
    SQL> select * from xtest;
            RN
             1... the data can still be rolled back. This is because the parser was not happy with the syntax of the DDL statement.
    So let's delete the data again, without committing it, and issue a DDL that is syntactically correct, but cannot execute for another reason (i.e. the database object it refers to doesn't exist)...
    SQL> delete from xtest;
    1 row deleted.
    SQL> select * from xtest;
    no rows selected
    SQL> truncate table bob;
    truncate table bob
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-00942: table or view does not exist
    SQL> rollback;
    Rollback complete.
    SQL> select * from xtest;
    no rows selectedSo, there we have it. Just because the statement was syntactically correct, the deletion of the data was committed, even though the DDL couldn't be performed.
    This makes sense really, because if we are planning on altering the definition of the database where the data is stored, it can only really take place if the database is in a state where the data is where it should be rather than being in limbo. For example, imagine the confusion if you updated some data on a column and then altered that columns datatype to be a different size e.g. reducing a varchar2 column from 50 character down to 20 characters. If you had data that you'd just updated to larger than 20 characters whereas previously there wasn't, then the alter table command would not know about it, would alter the column size and then the data wouldn't be valid to fit whereas the update statement at the time didn't fail.
    Example...
    We have a table that only allows 20 characters in a column. If we try and insert more into that column we get an error for our insert statement as expected...
    SQL> create table xtest (x varchar2(20));
    Table created.
    SQL> insert into xtest values ('012345678901234567890123456789');
    insert into xtest values ('012345678901234567890123456789')
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-12899: value too large for column "SCOTT"."XTEST"."X" (actual: 30, maximum: 20)Now if our table allowed more characters our insert statement is successful. As far as our "application" goes we believe, nay, we have been told by the database, we have successfully inserted our data...
    SQL> alter table xtest modify (x varchar2(50));
    Table altered.
    SQL> insert into xtest values ('012345678901234567890123456789');
    1 row created.Now if we tried to alter our database column back to 20 characters and it didn't automatically commit the data beforehand then it would be happy to alter the column, but then when the data was committed it wouldn't fit. However the database has already told us that the data was inserted, so it can't go back on that now.
    Instead we can see that the data is committed first because the alter command returns an error telling us that the data in the table is too big, and also we cannot rollback the insert after the attempted alter statement...
    SQL> alter table xtest modify (x varchar2(20));
    alter table xtest modify (x varchar2(20))
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-01441: cannot decrease column length because some value is too big
    SQL> rollback;
    Rollback complete.
    SQL> select * from xtest;
    X
    012345678901234567890123456789
    SQL>Obviously, because a commit statement is for the existing session, if we had tried to alter the table column from another session we would have got
    SQL> alter table xtest modify (x varchar2(20));
    alter table xtest modify (x varchar2(20))
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-00054: resource busy and acquire with NOWAIT specified
    SQL>... which is basically saying that we can't alter the table because someone else is using it and they haven't committed their data yet.
    Once the other session has committed the data we get the expected error...
    ORA-01441: cannot decrease column length because some value is too bigHope that explains it
