Is there a difference in quality by going directly to iDVD

In iMovieHD 5, Is there a difference in quality by going directly to iDVD or by "sharing" to a high quality Quicktime movie and importing that into iDVD? I want to make sure that the quality of my stills doesn't degrade too much. Sometimes, I've noted that they get a little jagged between transitions.
Is there an acceptable or safe length of time an iMovie should be?
Thanks,
Bob
iMac 2.1gHz   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

Go to your iMovie's project file and control click on it.
Go to 'show package contents'.
Go to the folder that says 'shared movies.
Then to the folder that says 'iDVD'.
Drag and drop this file into iDVD's window.
Another way is to simply drag the iMovie HD project into the iDVD window. iDVD is smart enough to find the file it needs in the project package.

  • Is there any difference in quality between mp4 and m4v?

Is there any difference in quality between mp4 and m4v? I am figuring out how best to save old VCR files. Is the 264 category the best?

So, what would that software be? Anything that I mentioned, e.g., iMovie? Any Video Converter?
I'm a Mac user so I want files that play "natively" in QT X, QT 7, QL, iPod Touch, iPhone, iPad, and/or TV players. This means I want the H.264/AAC compressed data in MOV, MP4, or M4V file containers. I can use QT 7 Pro, MPEG Streamclip, and /or QT X to move MPEG-4/AAC compressed data to MOV file containers, MPEG Streamclip to movie M4V and MOV MPEG-4/AAC data to MP4 file containers, and Subler to move MP4 or MOV MPEG-4 AVC/AAC/AC3/Chapter data to M4V file containers. This is strictly a simple "copy" operation and no recompression of data is involved. (I.e., the quality is not changed.)
iMovie is a video editor and it forces an export conversion of your project once completed which can degrade quality. Have never used the Any Video Converter so I don't know if it has an audio and/or video "passthrough" feature for data already in a compatible compression formats. If it doesn't then any conversion it makes has the potential to degrade video content.
As to AVI, this is a legacy file container abandoned by Microsoft a dozen years ago in favor of their modernized WMV compression format/file type products. Compared to MKV, AVI is an outmoded/out-of-date container which I don't recommend you use unless you are a glutton for punishment. However, if you must use it, then you might try the AvidMux app. It can "copy" compatible content to a number of file container types—including AVI and MKV. Just don't blame me if its use creates more problems than it solves on current Mac systems.

  • Is there a difference in quality between exporting to .dv in iMovie09 & FCP

I recently purchased FCP to do batch exporting of full quality .dv files because '09 didn't seem to have that option. I've been messing around with it now, though, and it appears as though both are capable of doing this. I've searched for this information and found conflicting results-- is exporting to .dv in iMovie destructive or is there no difference between '09 and FCP?

This thread sounds mysteriously similar to this one.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2380150&start=0&tstart=0
If you export to .dv with either FCP or iMovie I'm quite certain that you will be re-compressing your video. That's just the nature of the interleaved file structure of .dv
I you import .dv into FCP you will have to render the audio ONE time. Not the video.
If you export .mov files using the current settings (which should be DV NTSC) you will NOT be re-compressing the video. but you will have a .mov file.
FCP is NOT the right application for archival or any sort of file management tasks. File management is one of FCPs weakest attributes.
You may want to have a look at CatDV
    good luck

  • Is there a difference in quality between importing into 08 and Final Cut Pr

When importing video from a DV camera, is there a difference in the quality of the raw video recorded onto the Hard Drive between iMovie 08, iMovie 6 and Final Cut Pro?
Will I get better quality using Final Cut?
    Thanks
    Kevin

sorry for 'overwhelming' you with info
yes, all apps copy the dv-encoded material from miniDV devices 'natively' = lossless import..
but only iM08 then adds some 'loss' .. nobody knows exactly, what & how.. but you are not able to EXport lossless from within iM08 ..
example: import dv, export dv = adds blurr and 'magnifies' somehow the same file .. ( ! )
using iMHD≤6, FCE/P allows you, to export lossless = highest quality possible (except the parts of your project, which need renderning, e.g. titles, transitions...)
example: import dv, export dv = same quality ...
so, if _pic quality_ is your major concern, avoid iM08 ..
if you want fast results and export quality doesn't matter: iM08
if you want a Library off all imports ever and full integration into AppleTV/, YT.. = iM08
if you want other codecs than dv and simple use = iM08
if you want all imports for any future project and high dv quality = FCE/P
if you want easy to use and high dv quality = iMHD≤6 ..
if you want other codecs than dv and Hollywood quality = FCP

  • Is there any difference in quality between different LCD replacement panels.

I have a Model 1260 15" macbook pro from early 2008.  Today a button popped off my shirt.  I randomly tossed it on the desk near my bed.  Later I went to close the laptop and... *CRACK* the button was sitting on the notebook just to the right of the magsafe adapter.  Now the 4 left most inches of my screen are just a series of vertical lines.  I'm wanting to hold out for the next big redesign before purchasing a new computer.   I'm really hoping next year's model will ditch the optical drive and either have a large SDD or a combo of SDD and HD.  In the mean time, I'd like to just replace the screen.  I looked at ifixit and a few youtube videos.  While the process looks tedious, it doesn't look particularly difficult as long as I'm careful.  There seem to be 3 brands, Samsung, LG-Phillips, and Chi-Mei.  There are also many sellers listing panels on ebay and I've messaged a few to ask what brand panels they are using.  Should I go for any one brand over the others?
    Thanks.
    -Kevin

First, don't hang onto the hope that next year's MBP won't have an optical drive; instead, you'd be advised to purchase a 2011 MacBook Air, which doesn't have an optical drive but relies on SDD. If you need a CD/DVD drive, you can get that separately, if you need. The latest Air has received better reviews than anything else in the Apple lineup.
I'm not an expert on the different brand of keys available. But you'll want to make sure the color is an exactly match to the model. Replacing thes keys is relatively inexpensive but tedious, you might do well to email sellers to guarantee the color and fit.
    Good luck with the repair!

  • Is there any difference in sound quality in streaming music over Airport Express in IMac, MacBook Pro and iPad?

I've noticed a difference in quality when streaming my iPad wirelessly to my Yamaha receiver and high quality speakers versus my Pro or iMac. The iPad sounds like a toy in comparison to the computers. I'd like some expert advice on what I should expect from the three mentioned devices when streaming wirelessly through a pretty good audio system. Like for instance, should there be much difference in sound quality between the Pro and the iMac?

  • Is there any difference between the 2 different USB cords when syncing???

I know this may be a paranoid question to ask but I just wanted to make sure.
Is there any difference between the newer USB cords with the shorter plug (the end that goes into the iPhone) and the older ones with the bigger, square-shaped plugs that you can pinch on the sides to retract?
Is there a difference in transfer speed, syncing speed, or reliability, or build quality?
Just asking cuz the newer USB cord that came with my iPhone 3GS is getting frayed and so I'm using the older one instead.
    Thanks to whoever helps.

No difference except, as you noted, you have to squeeze the older one to remove it. It's important that you do that so you don't damage it or the iPod.

  • Is there a difference between...

... lowering the Out 1-2 fader and using a gain plug-in on Out 1-2 to reduce the gain?
I am trying to always, at the suggestion of many here, leave the Out 1-2 fader at Odb (unity gain.) But for some mixes it seems that I simply cannot do this without overs on the Out 1-2 channel. In this instance what should I do? Lower the Out 1-2 fader or apply a gain plug-in and reduce the gain?
Everything looks good with the Level Meter on Out 1-2 as long as the gain plug-in is above (before?) the the meter.

... lowering the Out 1-2 fader and using a gain plug-in on Out 1-2 to reduce the gain?
When you say "is there a difference" I take it you mean in audio quality, and the answers is no, they both do exactly the same DSP volume process.
Of course there's a difference in that if you have other plugins in the chain, adjusting the gain before those plugins is not the same as adjusting the overall output of the plugin chain with the fader - two different things.
But with just a gain plug on the output channel, it's just adjusting the gain of the signal just like the fader does.
I am trying to always, at the suggestion of many here, leave the Out 1-2 fader at Odb (unity gain.)
This is a legacy practice from early ProTools days I think - there is no problem adjusting the output fader to reduce the final mix level - it's what it's for
Lower the Out 1-2 fader or apply a gain plug-in and reduce the gain?
Either will do, again dependent on where in the chain you want to adjust the gain if you have other master output plugins going on.

  • Problems losing quality when going from develop module to library module ??  anyone have a fix

Problems losing quality when going to library module from develop module.  Sharpness and color quality decrease

This is normal. There will be a difference as you are comparing Library Previews with the image in Develop which accesses the original file, although the difference is usually slight. Real results need to be judged from exporting after selecting the output sharpening e.g. for glossy paper, if printing or screen sharpening for web images or emailing.
The idea with sharpening is to apply capture sharpening so that the image in Develop looks just sharp but not over sharp. Lightroom then uses the correct algorithm for output sharpening based upon image size and quality settings etc.

  • Are there any differences between Server 2012 and Server 2012 R2 that might impact TFS or SQL server required for TFS?

    Hi,
In the interest of just getting started and learning the basics of setting up TFS, I previously setup an IDE using a large workstation running Windows 8.  I set up the required servers for TFS using VM's through Hyper-V.  I am now transferring
everything to a new and separate physical server.
My question stems from a problem I had when I originally setup the TFS system the 1st time.  I couldn't get SQL server to work using the Server 2012 R2 download from the subscription center.  When I used Server 2012, it worked, so I proceeded that
    way just to get going.
So now I'm setting things up anew on a new physical box, I want to ask up front, is there some difference in the R2 version that causes problems with either TFS or SQL server, or was there likely some oversight on my part when I did things the 1st time?
As an addendum to my question, I always assumed R2 merely means the Server software has progressed to a refined state and is ready for wide distribution and easy setup.  I assumed that there are no differences between the Standard version and the R2
    version.  Is that understanding correct?
    Thanks.

    Hi Daniel,
Thanks for your response.  That's a great link.  I don't recall seeing a page that is so clear and easy to read back when I was doing this the 1st time, but I probably just missed it.  That helps.
I am/was using TFS2013 and VS2013.  As I recall, my problem was getting SQL Server to work, but I thought asking this question on this forum was wiser because I figured everyone using TFS would be well familiar with these issues.
At any rate, it seems as though TFS2013 is fine with Server 2012 standard or R2.
I was using SQL Server 2012, and it also seems as though it works on R2:

Anyway, thanks for your support.  I'll be trying this again and we'll see.

  • Are there any differences?

Are there any differences? on Ipod Video bought in USA and Europe? or are they just the same?
Ive heard that some people have problem with ipods in europe with the pal system when they bought it in USA.
    Regards Kim

The only difference I would think there would be between iPods sold here or in Europe is the default option for video out display. So, if you buy your iPod in Europe, and you want to display something from your iPod on a TV in the US, you would just have to change and option. Here is an article that goes over that a bit:

  • Is There Much Difference?!

Is there much difference between the N81 8GB and the N95 8GB?? Any Pros or Cons?!
    AubHill

    So sum it up:
Designwise: N95s have dual slides, N81 has only one sided slide.
Look: N95s look more gorgeous, N95 8GB has strong build quality, N82 has it too but has cheap plastic feels.
Screen: both N95 and N95 8GB has reasonable size screen to enjoy more than N81s.
Music: N81 8GB has better music quality than N95 8GB.
Video: watching video is a pleasure on N95s.
GPS: N81 8GB lacks internal GPS module.
Battery: Both are more or less almost the same
RAM and Hardware: almost identical though N81 lacks 3D GFX accelerator.
If it was possible to edit a post forever I would do so time to time if I have missed something. If anyone finds more let us know.
    But overally N95 8GB wins.

  • Is there any difference

Is there any difference in committing in a FORALL loop and from a FOR loop.????

    Peeyush wrote:
sir i was reading the articles in asktom.com and when I was going through a document one person mentioned that there are difference in commit in for and forall statements but I am not able to figure it out that's why I wanted to know where the difference actually lies in commit statements in for and forall..And the answer is that you CANNOT commit in a FORALL statement. As alreayd pointed out a FORALL statement is literally a single bulk DML statement. It doesn't have a loop structure for you to put a commit inside of. You can only commit after the FORALL has happened. You can however commit inside a FOR loop, but generally speaking that would be considered bad practice. You should commit when the business logic says that it's a valid point to commit the business transaction, otherwise you could end up leaving your database in an inconsistent data state if you've committed part of a logical transaction.

  • Burning TS folder as Data DVD vs. Video DV. Is there a difference?

Is there a difference between burning a Video_TS folder as a Data-DVD vs. a Video-DVD in a program like Toast?
I'm experiencing a wierd problem with a client where my discs only play on computers and not on DVD-players and I wonder if I may have burned the folder as a DATA DVD instead of a Video DVD and that is the problem...
Does this make sense or am I a complete loon?
    Thanks for your help.

Thanks for the link and quick response. I did use Toast
When I was working on this proj a few monthes ago, I remembering giving them a "Master" disc with the TS folder in it. I'm currently wondering if perhaps I burned it as a DATA disc because (according to my thinking, let me know if its incorrect) that a TS folder burned as DATA would be of higher quality than a TS folder burned as Video, should they ever need to have it replicated.
Come to find out they had the disc duplicated in-house. And those discs (including my Master) will only play on computers not DVD players... which seems to be consistent with a DATA disc. They inspected the disc and the folders/files look to all be in place so its kind of a mystery. Again, this seems to be what would happen if I burned a DATA instead of VIDEO: all the files would looks to be in place.
    Thoughts?

  • Is there any difference in importing movies to iMovie direct from memory card or first importing the movie to the hard drive?

Is there any difference in method:
    1) importing movies directly from memory card (class 10) to iMovie
    2) copying the content of the memory card to my hard drive and from there I import it to iMovie
I mean, is there any quality issues? The latter method is really much faster.

    AndersD_Vasa wrote:

    No.
The copy of the card is a 'bit-identical clone' - no difference to the 'original'.
Plus a superb method to back-up originals....
I copy all my original recordings first onto some hard-drive - SDcards are much to 'fragile' in my experience....
