Is there a DNG WIC codec for Vista (etc)?

Vista supports some basic file formats directly, but others (including raw formats) are supported via codecs conforming to WIC (Windows Imaging Component).
I have just read that Nikon now supply a WIC codec for NEFs. (I don't know if any other camera manufacturers supply WIC codecs).
Is there a Vista codec for DNG?

What features are people looking for in a codec? I'm taking the initiative and writing a commercial decoder. I don't know what Adobe's timeline is, so I have no idea if I will get scooped. On the other hand, Apple wrote their own support into their OS, and it seems like Microsoft should be expected to do the same from Adobe's point of view: Adobe provided a nice SDK, which I am using, and is it Adobe's duty to port their technology to every platform?
Getting in Thumbnails and Previews shouldn't be too hard.
Metadata reading isn't all that difficult, but I wouldn't trust WICs metadata writer to get things right. However, from the sound of it people will most likely using an Adobe product to do editing of either image data or metadata.
Also, are folks aware of any web sites that are maintaining sample DNG images? There are a few flavors: those made with ACR, cameras that shoot DNG natively, and then there's Hasselblad's FlexColor, and I don't know if they are using the DNG SDK or rolling their own implementation. It would be nice if there was a reference library of images available to folks that need to do interop testing.
Also, if anyone from Adobe wants to chat about their implementation of the codec, then I'd like to also do interop testing with their codec (i.e., what happens when both are installed on a PC), if it is something they are indeed interested in developing and maintaining.
So I guess a have a few questions.
1. Is thumbnail support and preview enough for your needs?
2. As a bonus, I suspect having the ability to read out metadata would still be useful for those who have a lot of images. Would it be a show stopper to be unable to see all of your metadata in the Vista explorer and other Vista imaging apps? The less I have to do, the sooner you'll have your thumbnails and preview.
3. What about editing metadata? Would you trust a WIC codec, or would you use the main editing tools in your work flow for maintaining metadata?

I have the Canon one, but unfortunately I converted most of my RAW files to
DNG. I have LR and CS3, but sometimes I just want to use Windows Photo
Viewer to show files.
If Adobe truly want DNG as the standard then this is a big missing piece.
I would offer to be a willing guinea pig to test a beta version if Adobe is
looking for victims, I mean volunteers.

New Nikon RAW Codec For Vista Posted

Just some notes on this.
The raw Codec does not support .CRW files...the ones from the canon 10d and some other camera. A disappointment. This would be a great reason to switch to .dng format, if Adobe had published a RAW codec for DNG, which they haven't.
Another note. This codec doesn't work on x64 bit versions of Vista.

Toshiba Power saver tool like under WXP does not exist anymore. Most power functions are controlled by Vista now. Toshiba has designed Power Saver tool again but it is not so extensive version as old one.

Is there a 4K XAVC codec for Premiere Pro on PC yet?

I have read that there is a plugin via Rovi for this, but that it is A) pricey, and B) unstable. Has Adobe or anyone else put out a codec/plugin for this yet? I have also heard that CS6.5 will support it. Lots of rumors floating around.

I believe I saw where Premiere Pro CC due out June 17th has support for Sony's XAVC, but I don't recall seeing anything about resolution. I'm not sure it even matters, as long as the codec itself is supported.

Codec for RAW in vista 64

I am trying to find the codec for viewing RAW files in Windows Live Photo Gallery. I found the codec for Vista 32, but nothing for the 64 system.

I presume you mean to play AVI. AVI is a container that can use many combinations of audio and video codecs. There is no single codec for AVI. Fortunately Perian enable Quicktime playback of many of these (but not in iTunes).

2009, Support for Soundblater Live! 24bit External for Vista and Alchemy

Hey i recently picked up a soundblaster li've! 24 bit external for my laptop running vista32, went to creative website and downloaded the newest 2009 beta drivers for it, and noticed all the features are missing that would usually be there for XP such as volume, EQ, Bass boost etc, and obviously there is no EAX support for vista...
So i tried using Alchemy .008 Uni'versal and although i could add games such as Warcraft 3 to the list the EAX still didn't work in-game.
Are there any 3rd party drivers or programs i could use to make full use of this card?

I bought a USB external Surround 5. last week which had a Creative Labs sticker on it saying "Vista Ready - go to www.creative.com to download drivers". Yet having done so I discover that most of the features on the box do not work.
I want it for 5. sound and soundfonts - but both these are missing. If these are not going to be supported (and soon!) please can Creative confirm this. Then I will take it back to the shop (PCWorld UK) and advise them that is DOES NOT DO what it says on the box. There is no single codec for videos that have .avi extensions. AVI is a container format, not a specific type of file. You'll have to find out what codec was used for the videos you want to view to determine what you need. Note that not all codecs for the various .avi movies are available for QuickTime.
If you want to try "hit and miss", Perian, which rolls several codecs into one package, might work. Otherwise, you'll have to determine what codec was used for that audio track.

heidie22, dj_paige has a very good point there. I would not through away the NEF files; I would archive them to a external drive.
By the way, I am assuming that converting RAW files to DNG is a decision you have made and not an accident.

I am trying to get rid of all my 32 bit apps because the more of them you run in 64 bit the less resources are available.
Firefox has a 64 bit browser they call the Shiretoko build. I love it, it's twice as fast as a heavily tweaked 32 bit firefox. Java has a 64 bit plugin that works with it.
The last holdout is Adobe.
Microsoft is making Vista and Win 7 64 bit as easy and smooth as the 32 bit versions as a means to get people to start using them.
Linux has a way to make flash work with 64 bit.
Remember when we all had a 16 bit operating system and how much better things got with 32 bit?
Adobe, it's time!.. don't you see that?

no the audigy 2 zs is pci based. they have another called audigy 2 zs notebook and that's the one for laptop. if you can't find it from your vendor, you can always try getting it from someone else.

I was just wondering if there are any other internet/online channels I can get for Vista Media Center?
I only have about 9 at the moment, and would like preferby free ones. I don't have satelite or cable tv so would like online ones, is there anywhere that I can get sky one without a satellite dish as prison breaks on soon.

I dont think you will be able to find a free Sky One channel in the internet.
But Im not expert and this is only my personal opinion.
If you dont have a satellite or cable TV you could buy a DVB-T TV tuner and maybe then you will be able to receive more TV channels using MCE ;)

Adobe Reader for Vista Shows Vulnerable, but THERE IS NOT THE VERSIN THAT MOZILLA SAYS T UPDATE TO? Where is it????

Mozilla keeps telling us we need to update to Adobe Reader version 11.0.10.32. Nowhere in the Adobe site is there such a version. Have looked, have contacted, so will Mozilla PLEASE TELL US WHERE? Additionally, this is being sent from my Vista OS, and Adobe has no Version 11 for Vista. SO neither my XP PRO systems not my Vista Systems will update to the Version Mozilla shows in the Add-ons Plugin Manager pages.

Adobe doesn't support Reader/Acrobat XI on Vista. Who knows why... as long as Help > Check for Updates in Reader/Acrobat says you are up-to-date, trust that information.

First..
1. Have you updated from 13 to the 13.1 Update using an opened project's Help Menu/Update. If not, please do so.
2. Do the problems exist if you disable the antivirus and firewall(s)?
3. Are you running the program as Administrator? Do you have the latest version of QuickTime installed on your computer?
4. Have you refreshed the Online Services using Premiere Elements Editor Edit Menu/Preferences/Web Sharing?
5. Have you updated the Adobe Application Manager?

6.Is your video card/graphics card driver version up to date according to the web site of the manufacturer of the card?
7. Lots more we could go through such as deleting the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file and, if necessary, the whole
13.0 Folder in which it exists.
But, I think that you have enough things going on here to warrant an uninstall, free ccleaner run through (regular cleaner and registry cleaner parts) and then reinstall with the antivirus and firewall(s) disabled.
