Is there a DVD/CD drive in the new iMac?

Hi! I have the new iMac 2012. I cant find where the CD/DVD drive is!!I feel really dumb!I know the air does not have a cd'dvd drive but does the new iMac??

The new iMac hasn't got a SuperDrive. If you need the SuperDrive, buy the USB SuperDrive or use Remote Disc

  • I recently upgraded my old powerbook to an iMac.  I've dumped the files of my backup drive into the new iMac. Is there a way to have access to all the files (new and old computers) when logged on as the same user vs. logging in and out to access each?

I am new to posting to this support community but have often referred to it for answers.  So thank you all who've contributed; you've been a great help!

Sure-glad to help you. You will not lose any data by changing synching to MacBook Pro from imac. You have set up Time Machine, right? that's how you'd do your backup, so I was told, and how I do my backup on my mac.  You should be able to set a password for it. Save it.  Your stuff should be saved there. So if you want to make your MacBook Pro your primary computer,  I suppose,  back up your stuff with Time machine, turn off Time machine on the iMac, turn it on on the new MacBook Pro, select the hard drive in your Time Capsule, enter your password, and do a backup from there. It might work, and it might take a while, but it should go. As for clogging the hard drive, I can't say. Depends how much stuff you have, and the hard drive's capacity.  As for moving syncing from your iMac to your macbook pro, should be the same. Your phone uses iTunes to sync and so that data should be in the cloud. You can move your iTunes Library to your new Macbook pro
you should be able to sync your phone on your new MacBook Pro. Don't know if you can move the older backups yet-maybe try someone else, anyways,

don't forget to de-authorize your iMac if you don't want to play purchased stuff there
and re-authorize your new macBook Pro
time machine is an application, and should be found in the Applications folder. it is built in to OS X, so there is nothing else to buy. double click on it, get it going, choose the Hard drive in your Time capsule/Airport as your backup Time Machine  and go for it.  You should see a circle with an arrow on the top right hand of your screen (the Desktop), next to the bluetooth icon, and just after the wifi and eject key (looks sorta like a clock face). This will do automatic backups  of your stuff.

  • How do I share a hard drive with the new iMac to load a disk from macbook pro

How do I share a hard drive with the new iMac to load a disk from macbook pro. I want to install office for Mac from a disk but dont know how to share har drive from macpro
    thanks

The new iMac's don' t have DVD drives however almost all have a disk drive. The easiest method of installing MS Office for Mac on your new iMac is to download it from Microsoft and then input the code you received when you purchased your original license. Otherwise you can use the DVD drive on your MBP to install on your iMac, that feature is called Remote Disc. Instructions for Remote Disc can be found at:http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5287

  • Is there a CD/DVD Drive in the new iMac's?

I just bought a new iMac on here and I was hearing that there's no internal CD/DVD Drive in the new models, is this true?  If so where can I find an external CD/DVD Drive so that I'll be able to play games and watch my magic videos on the iMac?

ok thanks, do you think that the Apple USB SuperDrive is good or should I go for something else?  I've been reading the posts on the review page for it and a lot of them are 1 Star Reviews saying it's terrible, I might go with a different one if I can find one that's compatible with the new iMac's.

  • I didn't notice an optical drive on the new iMacs. If this is true then how are customers to insert a dvd from a new peripheral purchased?

Where is the DVD player on the new iMacs?

I'm only guessing but it is no coincidence that Lion and Mountain Lion can only be bought be download from App Store.   Apple may well only want to sell this way in the future, via the App Store.   So no need for DVD facilities.

  • As there is no audio input on the new iMac range, What external equipment will allow me to record onto my iMac ?

As there is no audio input port on the new imac range, what external epuipment can i use to record dj podcasts from a pioneer DJM 700 mixer?

I'd be inclined to use something like the Numark Stereo I/O. If you're currently using the line-in on an iMac then you will see a drastic improvement.

That said, you can spend as much or as little as your wallet will allow on a USB input device, more investment brings better quality ADCs, higher bit rates, lower latency and more inputs.

  • Are there any wall mount brackets for the new iMac 27" 5k?

I have a wall mount (Bretford) for my Cinema HD Display that I have been using since 2008.  I just purchased the new iMac 27inch 5k computer.  It would be great to be able to use this computer with the wall mount.  The ones that are available (VESA) from the apple store and say they will work with some older iMacs.  My question is are there any available for the iMac I purchased? Thanks.

Hi. The VESA mounts for the iMacs are not "changeable": either you buy an iMac with a pedestal, either you buy one with a VESA mount, but you cannot switch, because the VESA mount is the first thing built in the iMac. You would need to sell your 5K iMac and buy a VESA 5K iMac.

  • External floppy disk drives for the new iMac?

I'm trying to move a whole slew of files I created on a Macintosh from a longtime back--the original Mac--and they are all saved on floppy disks. I recently bought a Sony MPF88E not knowing it didn't work with the new Leopard OS. Are there any external floppy drives out there that do work with the new OS?

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
I just dug out my +TEAC FD-05PUB+ (which I originally bought for an iMac DV running OS 9.0.4!). It works fine* on my Aluminium Intel iMac 2.8GHz.
I'm not sure why the Sony wouldn't work. Does it appear in System Profiler and/or Disk Utility?

    * by fine, I mean normal, but I'd forgotten how bad floppy disks are...

  • I just purchased an iMAC and Apple just announced the release of the new iMAC

I just purchased a 27" iMAC with 8GB of RAM and Radeon 6970 2GB.....Total was $2,399 before tax and shipping. Will Apple allow me to exchange for the new iMAC that they just announced today?....I feel ripped off!

The normal return policy is 14 days; but I've read of a couple of people claiming that individual stores may extend that - those reports were regarding the iPad.
So, the only way to know is to ask Apple. As for feeling ripped off - why? Do you want/need a CD/DVD drive? The new iMacs don't have one. Do you want a firewire port so you can use your external hard drives which also have firewire - the new ones don't have that either. So, does your current iMac do what you purchased it for? If so, you weren't ripped off. Newer, better, bigger editions of electronics are being introduced daily - it's called marketing.

  • How do I restore from old hard drive to a new iMac ?

The logic board in my mid 2008 iMac 24" has failed just 3 months out of AppleCare. To replace this will cost me HK$ 6500. I was going to buy a new mac anyway, just waiting for the next refresh model to come out.  So a new 27" i7 with highest spec and SSD and 2TB hard drive with AppleCare will cost me HK$ 24k. No brainer to just buy a new iMac rather than spend 25% of the cost to repair a 3+ year old iMac.
The hard drive is working ok so the repair centre said they will remove the hard drive for me and suggested I buy an enclosure for it , put the old drive in the enclosure and then transfer the program's, settings and files to the new IMac.
What is the best way to do this ?  I obviously cannot boot up the old drive. Can I connect this drive  to the new iMac and then use setup assistant to move settings and program's to the SSD on the new iMac , then use migration assistant to move the remainder of the files ( documents folder, iPhoto etc) to the hard drive on the new iMac ?
If not then any suggestions ?

Do as the repair center suggests and place the old drive in an enclosure then connect it to the new Mac.
When you first start new Mac run Setup Assistant and tell it to restore from the external drive.
It worked for me and should work for you.

  • My imac is not recognizing any external dvd writer drive. I have imac with Core i7 and Mac OS 10.6.8. I have tried external dvd writers from Samsung and Amazon Essentials but the computer does not recognize any of them. Which Dvd writer is compatible?

I have an external firewire burner; it never shows on the desktop unless I insert a CD or DVD - that icon will then show (if I have my preferences set to show those on the desktop). Hae you checked in Disk Utility (Applications > Utilities) to see if it is listed under drives?

Hmmm? A quick google search for external optical readers turns up many in the $20-$40 (USD) range. Didn't convert to £ or include any VAT charges, but you should be able to get something significantly cheaper than £70. That's your simplest solution.

  • HT1539 I have the new imac and it does not have a dvd drive. How can I download digital copy of a movie?

Some Blu rays and DVDs come with digital copies and you inset them into the dvd drive and it downloads the movie to itunes and then you can put them on any iDevice. The new iMac does not have a dvd or disc drive. What can I do?

You will either need to borrow or purchase an external DVD drive, or if you have access to another computer that has a DVD drive you may be able to use Remote Disk:
