Is there a fan inside a MacBook Air

I noticed my MacBook AIr getting a bit too warm at times, and wonder whether there is a fan
inside to cool it, that may need servicing.

Yes, but, it depends on the model and year:

Look through these guides. The older it is the more likely that the fan system needs cleaning or servicing.

  • Is there a way for my macbook air (running Lion) to access an external hard drive on my Imac (running snow leopard) specifically for Iphoto and itunes?

Is there a way for my macbook air (running Lion 10.7.2) to access an external hard drive on my Imac (running snow leopard 10.6.8) specifically for Iphoto and itunes?

Yes. For those two applications specifically there is sharing. This presumes both computers are on and connected to the same network.
In iPhoto, enable sharing by (on the iMac) going to the iPhoto menu > Preferences > Sharing > check Share my photos. You can either share the entire library or only selected albums. Now on your MacBook Air, in iPhoto, go to the same preference pane and select Look for shared photos.
iTunes has something similar. In the iTunes menu > Preferences > Sharing > check Share my library on my local network. On the other computer, look in the left column for SHARED and select the iMac. You can now play that music on the MacBook Air.
There are other ways to share files but for those two applications this is the simplest way.
    Best of luck.

Is there an SDXC adaptor for Macbook Air 11

For computers without a built-in camera card reader, you can purchase one for use
with a USB port. So long as the adapter is qualified for use with SDXC, it should work.
    Good luck!

Not at this time. It would also be great to have an adjustment for sensitivity too.

  • The fan sound of macbook air

Is it normal to hear the fan sound of macbook air. not all the time

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Sometimes, when you are doing heavy tasks with your computer, temperature increases. Your Mac turns on fans automatically when temperature increases a lot, so it will keep your computer safe. It's normal and you shouldn't be worried if this doesn't happen all the time

  • Is there a way to prevent MacBook Air to go to sleep when using Spotify?

I have a Macbook Air with the latest version of Maverics and I often listen to music on it, via airplay and headphones. This works great, but when I'm not using the computer for anything else but spotify it goes to sleep after the specified time and I loose the sound. I wonder whether there is  way to adjust the settings so that only certain programs like Spotify can prevent my Mac from going to sleep when they are active.
    Thanks a bunch!

You can upgrade the SSD on a 2012 MacBook Air using the following: http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/SSD/OWC/Air-Retina/Apple-MacBook-Air-2012-Drive-I nternal-Flash

I bought a second hand MacBook Air (model: A1237) and noticed that it came loaded with Fan Control, an app for controlling fans no less, so I took a screen shot of it and was hoping that somebody could let me know if everything was functioning normally please?

    The fans should function normally.

  • My iPhone is dead and lost. Is there anyway Apple or my Macbook Air can track it?

    Hello!
My iPhone has been lost for ever two (2) weeks. I believe (99%) it is in my house, but I'm not sure.
My 'Find My iPhone' app says its "offline" because it is dead.
It is scyned with my Macbook Air. Is there anyway that I can power it up even when its dead? Or can Apple?
I really need it and I can't find it anywhere. Is the only way for me to physicly find it?
    Much appreciation,
    Emma

    "Or can Apple?"

  • Is there a difference between the macbook air and the macbook pro?

i know the specs but are there some differences where you can tell me about??

The differences are pretty obvious if you've read the technical specifications comparison. Which MacBook Pro are you comparing the MacBook Air against? There are additional differences if you're comparing between 13, 15 or 17" models.
    The most obvious differences:
    Optical Drive
    Ethernet port
    FireWire port
    i5/i7 CPU architecture
    Dedicated GPU (15 & 17 MBP)
    RAM and HDD upgradeability
    Backlit keyboard

  • Fan speed on Macbook Air 2,1

    Hello,
I know from experience other users than just myself have or have had issues with heat on their Macbook Air.
My problem is that whatever I do, it gets hot quite quickly, and from 20 minutes of use on has the fan on maximum being 6500 RPM as I understand from iStat pro.
Is this a hard(ware) issue like the heat sink not ideally glued to the CPU or anything, or is it normal behaviour ?

    Barry,
I think it depends on your normal workflow.  With my MBair things are normal with web browsing and other light duties but heats up very quickly with any Graphics or CPU intensive activities.  Watching any video heats up rapidly.  So, your situation is normal for some activities but not normal for others.

    Captfred

  • Should the fan in my MacBook Air be running when the computer is shut and asleep?

Mine is, and this seems like a waste of battery life. I feel like the fan used to shut off when the computer was shut. But now, even when I close the MacBook, the fan still runs as fast as it did when the computer was open. Anyone know what the heck is going on here?

Yeah I think it is a Mavericks thing. Mine actually wasn't too bad. I closed the lid at night when my power was at about 52% and the fan kept going. I just went to bed, and in the morning, the fan had stopped, and my power was still around 51%, so it didn't eat any of my power like I thought it was going to. Mavericks must have the ability to cool your computer when needed even after you close it. It actually turned out to be not that big a deal.

  • Tape connected to the optical drive and fan inside the macbook.

Hello, I recently replaced my optical drive in my White MacBook mid 2007 model, After replacing it I realized I had to replace the silver tape that was connected to the old optical drive that lay across some wires to the fan, I went out and bought some silver aluminum foil tape, I was told that that was the tape in the computer, I just want to double check that this is correct so I don't end up ruining my computer.
    Thanks,
    Shane
