Is there a fix for Mail keeping 4 connections open for one.......?!

Is there a fix for Mail keeping 4 connections open for one email account setup as IMAP.......?!
Im just wondering whether this is possible because it means our company website falls over when the processes go over 25! There are a lot of emails.....
It is a massive pain and ideally we dont want to upgrade our hosting package if we can help it!
There must be a way round it?! Someone brainy know any tricks?!

Never have encountered this -- more info, please? What are 4 connections, exactly?
Very simple: Mail opens one connection for each IMAP mailbox on the account. Typically, this means Inbox, Sent Mail, Drafts, and Trash, but also includes Apple Mail To Do and Junk and any mailboxes/folders the user has created.
The problem is that Mail is keeping these connections open when it's done checking for new mail, even when *Use IDLE command if server supports it* is not enabled. With 4 email accounts on one server, this causes a "500 Internal Server Error" because there are too many processes running. As soon as I quit Mail, my web server resumes serving pages.

  • Keep connection opened for loop

    Hello Community!
I'm using JCO to connect a Flex application to a backend SAP System.
This is how I connect to the system:
        - Edit configuration file for SAP System
        - JCoDestination dest = JCoDestinationManager.getDestination(configurationFile)
        - JCoFunction func = dest.getRepository.getFunction('myFunction')
        - func.execute(dest)
I think that the connection is established when I execute the JCoFunction and then closes inmediatly after the execution is done.
The issue I'm having is that I have a RFC FM in SAP that is really fast (at least in SAP). I'm calling this FM via the JCo in a Loop and it's taking forever.
I think that the long response time comes from the connection... But don't know how to resolve it but creating a FM that call myfunction in a Loop and the returns it to Java...
Thanks for any help you can provide.
    Regards,
    BS_C3

By default JCo 3 uses connection pools. You can check the connection parameters in interface DestinationDataProvider. Here you can especially check out parameters jco.destination.expiration_time and jco.destination.expiration_check_period.
So connections are reused (not closed) as long as you don't create new destination objects with each call. Note that usually there's quite some overhead with the first invocation of an RFC call if you have to retrieve the metadata from a SAP repository. I.e. if you trace the calls you'll see that initially there's quite a few calls to figure out the function module interface of the called RFC and all corresponding parameters (e.g. if structures or tables are used those have to be retrieved as well). So you can gain some performance by adding the metadata of the used functions to the repository (or usage of a JCoCustomRepository and loading for example saved metadata before executing the RFC calls).
To check performance I'd enable tracing and possibly look at some of the other options for measuring performance (e.g. check out JCoDestination.setThroughput() and other options).

Hi, I have recently updated my OS X to Maverick. when I did, my mail programme (Mail) will not open - for me only. There are 4 other users of the iMac, and they don't appear to have any problems.

First, Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, test if things work OK in Safe Mode.
Then move these files to the Desktop for now...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.recentitems.plist
    Reboot & test.
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.

  • Outlook 2011 for Mac keeps asking me for password

I had been using Windows Live Mail (pop 3) for years until last week; rarely, if ever had any problems downloading my mail.
I just bought a Mac computer and am using Outlook 2011 for Mac; my operating system is Maverick (if that means anything to anyone).
The BT tech guys suggested I set up my mail accounts as IMAP so that all mail read on the server syncs etc. with my Outlook. It all sounded great. However, ever since I installed Outlook for Mail it asks me for my password numerous times during the day (for each of my 5 email accounts)....it usually does this when the computer has been in sleep mode, i.e., when Outlook tries to download mail from the server.
Something else to mention is that whilst the BT tech guys set up my IMAP accounts with:
Incoming Port - 993 (requires SSL)
    Outgoing Port - 465 (requires SSL/TLS)
The BT Mail department (today) told me to revert back to 110 (outgoing)  and 25 (incoming) and to call the incoming and outgoing mail.btinternet.com instead of the smtp.........(I forget the rest of it now) that the tech guys set it up as.
I've since reverted the incoming and outgoing to mail.btinternet.com but haven't changed the numbers to 110 and 25 because the BT Mail guy said "if you are able to send/receive using the 993 and 465...just leave them. And I *am* able to send/receive. The problem is more the password prompt and the message "server not recognised" or whatever it says....I can't recall the exact words.
I phoned Apple and they of course say it is an Outlook problem; not an Apple one, though they did help me delete the mail settings in their keychain thingie so that I could put in my passwords again (all passwords are correct by the way).
Apple did ask, however if my internet service provider are happy for me to have mail set up as IMAP; she epxlained  that it really isn'y *my* choice; it's the server people's choice.
My questions are therefore: 1) who/what is my server? Is it BT? My email addresses are all btinternet.com and I'm also using BT Broadband for both home and my business/office.
I just don't understand why Outlook keeps prompting me for password so my second question is 2) does anyone know why I am being prompted for my password as often as I am? Does this have to do with IMAP settings? with Outlook? or with my Server? or possibly all of the above? and how does one identify the real issue?
    Many thanks!

    Hi Steve,
Thanks for this-yes, eventually, I do send/receive fine, once I've poppedd my passwords in.
I think you are right in that BT seem to be having unique server/login issues...at least this is what I've read elsewhere too.
Iroonically, this AM I opened my new Mac and have *not* been asked for passwords so perhaps the changes I made in the settings yesterday (keychain reset in Mac) and also changing it from smtp.....to mail.btinternet.com solved the issue...who knows? All I know is this last week I've nearly lost the will to live on more than one occasion, from the transition from PC Windows Live Mail to Outlook for Mac.

With an iOS device, the “Other” space in iTunes is used to store things like documents, settings, caches, and a few other important items. If you sync lots of documents to apps like GoodReader, DropCopy, or anything else that reads external files, your storage use can skyrocket. With iOS 5/6/7, you can see exactly which applications are taking up the most space. Just head to Settings > General > Usage, and tap the button labeled Show All Apps. The storage section will show you the app and how much storage space it is taking up. Tap on the app name to get a description of the additional storage space being used by the app’s documents and data. You can remove the storage-hogging application and all of its data directly from this screen, or manually remove the data by opening the app. Some applications, especially those designed by Apple, will allow you to remove stored data by swiping from left to right on the item to reveal a Delete button.

word for mac keeps stopping, word for mac keeps stopping
I am trying to make some business cards in the program provided and when I copy it starts thinking and working and then stops.
This cause me to wait and then have to do the hole process over agin with the same happening the next time.

That sounds like a Microsoft issue, please re-post in the Office for Mac Product Forums.

  • Mail keeps going offline for no reason

During the course of a day Mail keeps going "Offline" and coming up with a dialogue box asking for me to re-enter my password. I've checked in my "account" and the information is still there so I manually have to click to go back "Online". But it repeats about every 15 minutes. Restarting the computer does not fix it and it's been happening for about 2 weeks now. Sometimes when I click to go back "Online" it doesn't happen straight away and I have to wait a few minutes. Very frustrating!!!. Sending mail is fine, it just affects receiving mail.

If Mail keeps asking for your password when retrieving mail, then it may very likely be that the password you entered has become corrupted in the Keychain. You should try this:
Open Keychain Access>Passwords and scroll through the list to find that specific entry and delete it; quit Keychain Access.
Restart Mail and enter your password again when it asks, and check the box to save it in the Keychain. If things work as expected, it will not ask you again unless your Keychain or an entry in it becomes corrupted again.

  • My Acount Settings & Preferences for Mail keep verting to previous settings

The references to my "Account Directory" show my previous e-mail settings-
/User/my name/Library/Mail/POP- old email address. When I try to change these settings to my new e-mail address it immediate activates an email but without a recipients name. When I deleted the reference to my previous
e-mail address settings it keeps returning the previous settings in the Library section. I have removed all references to my previous dial-up settings in the System Preferences-Network because I am now on broadband and have been for 2 years. When I deleted the POP references to my previous e-mail address I lost ALL my inbox and outbox e-mails that I had for the last two years. I am about to upgrade from Panther to Tiger shortly which means I will have new "Mail" software. Currently I have Mail 1.3.11
Is it better to remove this e-mail settings problem as above, first or hope the upgrade to Tiger will do it for me? I prefer to get rid of my previous e-mail settings first before upgrading to Tiger. Can somone help please?

As referenced when creating an account with Mail, an account named folder is created within the Mail folder at Home > Library > Mail that is named by the user name and incoming mail server for the account. The accounts' mailboxes are located within the account named folder which represent the account named mailboxes under In, Drafts, Sent, Trash and Junk in the mailboxes drawer.
When changing the account settings for an existing account - the account's incoming mail server or email address, the name of the account named folder within the Mail folder does not change which has or should not have any adverse effect.
Deleting an email account with Mail also deletes the account named folder and the accounts' mailboxes within and an error message is provided before doing so that indicates this.
    > When I try to change these settings to my new e-mail address it immediate activates an email but without a recipients name.
I haven't experienced the same or heard of this but you can't enter any recipients or cancel this new message that is created automatically?
    > When I deleted the reference to my previous e-mail address settings it keeps returning the previous settings in the Library section.
This was before deleting the old account associated with the dial-up internet provider or did this also occur after deleting the dial-up account and recreating the account associated with the broadband provider?
    > Is it better to remove this e-mail settings problem as above, first or hope the upgrade to Tiger will do it for me? I prefer to get rid of my previous e-mail settings first before upgrading to Tiger.
Upgrading to Tiger will not do this automatically but besides the name of the account named folder within the Mail folder, are there any problems associated with this?

  • Mail keeps asking me for my Verizon POP password!

    Hello,
The Mac Mail program keeps asking me for my Verizon POP outgoing password. It is so annoying because I have the password stored in the program's preferences for my Verizon.net account, and I know it is stored in the Keychain utility. I have never had this problem on my old mac which ran Mac OS 10.3.9, but I seem to have this problem several times EVERYDAY. I have my outgoing mail server as outgoing.verizon.net. I called Apple tech support about this, and they had me change my authentication settings from Authenticated POP (APOP) to Password. However, after saving that setting, the stupid program reverts back to APOP!!
What can I do so that Mac Mail will stop acting like it is suffering from alzhiemer's, and remember my password?

I suggest running Keychain First Aid on your login Keychain via Keychain Access.
The Authenticated POP (APOP) is for the incoming mail server, not for the outgoing or SMTP server.

  • Mac mail: keeps going offline for outgoing

Mac Mail account won't send mails - recieves fine. Checked all settings and tried various changes to no effect. Basically says it's offline after trying to send. Account had worked fine for several months until 2 days ago... any help welcome.
Running OSX 10.5.8 on macbook, Mail is 3.6 [936]

If Mail keeps asking for your password when retrieving mail, then it may very likely be that the password you entered has become corrupted in the Keychain. You should try this:
Open Keychain Access>Passwords and scroll through the list to find that specific entry and delete it; quit Keychain Access.
Restart Mail and enter your password again when it asks, and check the box to save it in the Keychain. If things work as expected, it will not ask you again unless your Keychain or an entry in it becomes corrupted again.

  • Why does JDBC keep connections open even though I close the resultsets?

I attached my program and my output. Please bear with me for the long output. My question here is why do the connections remain even though I closed the resultsets. I need to reuse my prepared statements, but don't want to keep the oracle sessions open. Is this possible? What do I need to do?
If you notice in the program, I have executed the query to find the number of open sessions 5 times.
    1) After creating the connections
    2) After creating the prepared statements
    3) After executing them
    4) After getString on the resultSets
    5) After closing the resultsets.
And the sessions are still there even is Step 5 :-(

Why do the connections stay open? Because you haven't closed them.
You answered your own question: obviously closing the ResultSet is NOT the same thing as closing the connection.
When you do a query, you want to get the connection, statement, and result set, load the data from the result set into an object or data structure, and then immediately close them all again in reverse order of creation. You want to keep the scope as narrow as possible. You want to use a connection pool to keep the cost of obtaining a connection down. You should leave caching of the PreparedStatements to the JDBC driver.

  • SQL Developer 1.5.4: "Keep alive" setting to keep connections open?

Is there any way to configure SQL Developer 1.5.4 such that it "pings" the server every now then to keep the connection open?
It's very frustrating to be working on a script, step away from it for a while, and have SQL Developer freeze when trying to execute the next SQL statement.
    What can I do?
My workaround--execute a "dummy" SQL statement like "select * from dual;" every now and then to keep a connection open.
    Thanks.
    Dana

I have had this problem till I had a RAM upgrade.
Since I have had the upgrade JDeveloper also responds well.
A way to check is via task manager, if PF usage is more than you physical RAM size it is a indicator that you need more RAM or shut down some application that is hogging memory.
Just to rule out if its not some other problem, have you tried working in SQL Developer running by itself or with one other program.

  • VB6 - Keep Connection open?

    Hi,
I have developed a VB6 application which logs on / connects to SAP and executes a number of RFC's.
At the moment I have left the connection open throughout the running of my application, so that several RFC's can be executed without the need to log on / off each time. However, I have discovered that SAP messages being returned to me do not appear to be cleared (from memory) giving me incorrect messages. If the user stops and starts the connection each time before executing an RFC , this does not happen and messages / results are as expected.
Should I be killing the connection for every RFC I execute, or am I missing some more basic refresh type of command?
Another question, which may well be answered by the previous one: one of the RFC's I need to execute involves uploading from one line of data to many lines of data. I intend to loop through each line and execute the RFC for each line of data, as this appears to be how the RFC handles it. Given that I may have many lines and therfore many RFC calls, is it best to repeatedly call the RFC without closing the connection, as posted above? If I have to close the connection and re-open it each time as well as call the RFC, it could turn out to be a lengthy process.
    Hope you can advise,
    thanks,
    Steve

    Hi,
I'm not quite sure I understand your question. If you want to open only a single connection and use only that connection, you'll have to do that in your code.
What is your DBA complaining about exactly though? Do you accumulate sessions, is that why he/she is concerned? You have idle sessions not being used? How many sessions? etc.
I'd check to make sure your code is cleaning up properly, and use connection pooling if you're not already.
    Hope it helps,
    greg
