Is there a fix for slow wifi speed on U310?

I bought early july a IdeaPad U310 in Texas, and then I moved to Belgium to study. The wifi speed was awefullt slow. So having read the forums, i rang the support in Belgium, and after long discussion, i sent the laptop for repair. Service was fine, but extremely slow, with no information what so ever of where the pc was, if it was received for reparation... anyway, three weeks after, so that today. i received it back and, according to the intervention report, the wireless controler was replaced. The thing is, the problem ofthe U310 is not a defectuous part, it is something more fundamental. I tested the PC in various speed test website.
I have three laptop, a Lenovo W520, a HP Mini 110, and the IdeaPad U310.
I used speedtest.net and brosdbandspeedchecker.co.uk
the result are
Lenovo W520: Download: 19.64 Mbps Upload: 1.99 Mbps
HP Mini 110: Download:15.72 Mbps Upload: 1.28 Mbps
IdeaPad U310: Download 4.75 Mbps Upload:2.1 Mbps.
Now, the speed on U310 is not that catastrophic (not like the 0.3 Mbps I was getting) but still not great and rather much slower than the two other machines, and not fast enough to watch a movie in streaming, it pauses all the time.
So what should i do? Send it again?
But is there a fix to the problem? Because keeping changing the wifi controller as they did did not fix the PC. The MEDION Repair center, which is in charge to repair Lenovo for northern europe (i guess) stated as well that the test "#winstress#" as been done. What is it? Yes the wifi works, but way too slow.

In fact changing the pwoer setting on the N-2200 doesn'tt change the amount of power it gets.

Hi, I have a 2008 iMac now running Lion 10.7.2. WiFi is incredibly slow - i have an ipad and iphone and a PC in the same place working 20x faster on the wifi network - Airport extreme. Have tried wifi channel, PRAM reset and dns changes all of which have been listed as solutions elsewhere on this forum.
All other devices work just fine from the same location.
Apple, this is extremely frustrating - there are lots of other people reporting similar problems but no single answer - can we have a faq on iMac wifi performance perhaps ?

Thanks for the feedback. Then, it's not the network, but since I don't do wifi/wireless, I can't help further. Good luck tracking down the bottleneck.

Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
    •    Launch Settings app
    •    Tap on Wi-Fi
    •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
    •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

What model of Mac? I have a MBP running 10.7.3 and do not have that issue. From the other couple of posts I've seen about it, it seems to be maybe an issue with some iMacs? Have your tried searching the Lion or iMac forums for similar issues, just to see if anyone has hit on why it is happening?

There are no recalls, there is no widespread issue.
Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new). Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.
If the problem continues, take the device to Apple for evaluation and possible replacement.

Hi. Since I got a new imac and upgrade to snow leopard my old ipages o6 does not load correctly when I open a document. It looks blank and only parts of the document comes in. You have to click and click and after a while it finally all is there. Any suggestions? Should I now have to buy the latest ipages?

Hi. Thanks for your reply. I have a brand new imac with 283.44 GB available. I don't know how to find out how much RAM. I do use Final Cut Express and am editing but I use a media drive so that shouldn't be causing it. And the ipages act happens no matter what is or is not being used.

i upgraded to OS 10.10.2, everything seems to be working fine except that time machine takes an unbelievable amount of time to backup. I have a macbook pro late 2011 build. I am backing up to an external drive via thunderbolt and have a 256GB SSD. I erased and reformatted the external drive, but that did nothing to help. I saw that this problem has been on going does anyone know how to correct this?

Suddenly I couldn't connect, it seemed that Safari had hung up. After 15 min it began to work just fine, I hope this is not a harbinger of troubles to come.
I am using a 1 TB Buffalo drive as my BU for Time Machine through Thunderbolt. After 10 min I had only backed up 40 mb of 82 gigs, I don't have a lot on this macbook pro... Tried the suggestions given but to no avail. I have been a Carbon Copy Cloner user on my iMac, and I think that I will just give up on TM and use CCC on this macbook...

About all that can be suggested is to use the feedback form and talk to Apple. They have communicated with some users, trying to get more info to find out just what the battery drain is so they can fix it. Unfortunately with the myriad of operating systems, apps and individual tweaks, there could be several combinations of settings that are draining the battery.
My personal suspicion is that it has something to do with iCloud and the wifi syncing. (My ipad, before I changed the setting, was reaching out to find a sync on a regular basis. And it may still be doing so, however I set my iTunes to not automatically open to keep my device from trying to sync several times in an evening...not to mention the constant aggravation of iTunes opening regularly)
That said, I could be wrong and it could be an app that users have in common, or several apps.

My ethernet port went dead on my IMac. I unplugged the ethernet cable and plugged it into my laptop and it worked instantly. I am still able to connect wirelessly. I bought an apple USB to Ethernet converter and plugged it in. It worked for about 3 days and then it went dead. Once again I was able to unplug the ethernet cable, plug it into my laptop and instantly had a connection. Is there a fix for a dead ethernet port besides a new logic board and if not how do I figure out which logic board I need?

This problem baffled me. I kept getting the "ethernet cable unplugged" error after testing my cables good. Was abut to write it off as port gone bad when I found this thread.
The YouTube video reference above fixed my problem. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u1P6X87qArs)
Basically go to SETTINGS/NETWORK. Then highlight your ETHERNET port and click the ADVANCED button. From there click the HARDWARE tab.
Set
CONFIGURE to MANUALLY
SPEED to whatever your ethernet speed is, in my case 1000baseT
DUPLEX - FULL DUPLEX, FLOW CONTROL
Leave MTU at Standard
Hit OK.
Then don't forget to hit APPLY. I didn't do this the first couple of times assuming hitting OK applied these settings. You gotta hit APPLY.
In about two seconds, my Ethernet connected again.
I went back and reset it to AUTOMATIC just to test and after doing so got the cable unplugged error again. So I am leaving it on manual and it's working.
