Is there a Front Row update in Tiger?

Is there a way to upgrade Front Row (my version is 1.3.1) without going to Leopard / 10.5 ?

Well the update is to 1.3.1.

I just installed the Front Row update. When I view photos through Front Row, the first album selection that comes up is "Shared Photos" - I set iphoto NOT to look for shared photos. I also set the slideshow NOT to play music. But every time I quit and then re-open iPhoto. those settings are not held - it says to look for shared photos and to play music...

try the following:
Quit iPhoto if it is running.
In your user directory there is folder named "Library". Inside the Library Folder there is a folder called "Preferences". Inside this preference folder there is a file named "com.apple.iPhoto.plist" .
Do the following, click on the name of this file and change it to "com.apple.iPoto.plist" or anything else different than iPhoto.
Now launch iPhoto and adjust your settings.
See if they "stick", if so, you can trash the file whose name you changed. If not try running permissions and repeating the process.
Check back if it does not work.

Does Front Row update playcount (and other attrbutes) in iTunes?

Excuse this question please which I could theoretically test myself, just don't have the resources at hand right now to try it out:
As I understand FR under Tiger uses iTunes to play music. So logically any smart playlists based on 'last played' or 'playcount' attributes will stay up to date?
However, since the new FR (Leopard) handles everything itself my question is, will it also update these iTunes attributes?
My previous quick test, seemed to suggest not. Pretty annoying cos I'm planning to use a MacMini as a mediacenter, connected to the TV and it seems to defeat the object of Front Row if I end up having to play music from iTunes in order to fully utilise my smart playlists.

PS And why do I have Front Row 1.0 installed on a brand new 10.5 iMac? I thought the Leopard version was FR 2.0 ?

The "Front Row" that is in your Applications folder may be "version 1.0" but it's really only a shortcut to the actual Front Row application that's inside your /System/Library/CoreServices/ folder. That's the application that is version 2 now and is actually displaying on your screen. I think Apple added this shortcut for people who don't have an Apple remote so it's easier to open Front Row.

Front Row Update

When wil front row be updated, it was ok when iTunes first started to sell movies and TV shows but now libraries are reaching hundreds of gigabytes and hundreds of movies navigating through them all is becoming quite difficult. Is there anything that can change this, i still want to just press menu on the remote as i use my mac mini as a media centre.
It would be nice if apple could update what i think is an integral part of the operating system, especially when they are trying to sell HD movies and TV shows.

My general strategy on this was to create a folder Categories and beneath
this make subfolders which each of the movie categories I cared about.
I put a short cut to this folder in my Movies folder. Then for each movie I had
I created a short-cut and placed it into the category I feel the movie belongs to.
If it belongs to more than one category I create more than one short cut.
In Front Row if I then go to Movies > Movies Folder I see my Categories folder and I can navigate to movies that way.

Front Row Update not updating?

I downloaded/installed latest update: 2.1.7. The problem is, when I check the version number in the Finder, FR shows up as 1.0! I've applied the update installer 3 times - still 1.0.
Info says- Created: Wednesday , Oct 10, 2007 Modified: Monday, Dec 15, 2008! So, did the update take or not???

I like Douglas McLaughlin's explanation here: Re: Front Row 1.0 or 2.1.6?? which basically says the version in the Applications folder is just a Launcher for the real one in the System folder. It was needed so folks without a Remote could launch Front Row.

Cannot install Front Row update 1.3.1

Software update unloaded the installer for this update. I have tried to run it several times and each time receive an error message indicating that installation failed & I should try again.
Two questions:
1. How do I determine what version of Front Row is installed on my computer?
2. How can I install this update??

I was having trouble installing this update too. I finally went to the Apple downloads site and re-downloaded the update. I then tried installing it again and it worked! Try that. I don't know how to tell what version you have.

Front Row & Grab for Tiger

I am looking for Apple's Front Row application and also the Grab one for OS Tiger. Where can I download these programs? I'm having a hard time finding valid links online.

The only way to use Grab is to purchase the Mac OS X Tiger. These programs are not available for download. Front Row is available on Leopard.
You might be able to get a Tiger DVD from Apple, *but no guarantees*.
Tiger is no longer available at the Apple Store but is still available for $129 by calling Apple Phone Sales @ 1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753).

I sure hope the next Front Row update includes the Apple TV 2 functionality

I bought a Mac mini the day Leopard was released, and now it is my media server. It was that or an Apple TV, and I liked having more control plus a DVD player in the box.
Front Row 2.0 is nice, but I've been trying to find add-ons, like Sapphire, to give it more features. Nothing yet will play YouTube or other internet video, which is one of the things I'd really like. So, after today's cool demo of ATV 2.0 software, I'm hoping that Steve & Co will keep Front Row on parity with ATV.
After all, Mac users would like to rent HD movies & and show of our Macs too!

AppleTV includes HDMI and HDCP, which are not present in Apple computers. Although computers play HD movie trailers just fine, I suspect that studio demands for DRM would ensure that rental HD downloads (or HD-DVD or Blu-ray) would not appear on a computer. Unless the computer had HDMI and HDCP enforced.

Is there a Front Row music preference to turn off the song time bar?

I don't believe the auto correct feature is turned off after 3x crossing it out in the autocorrect box. I constantly abbreviate "with" as "w/" and it always auto corrects me to an "a" without the slash. This has happened probably 20 times so my iPhone isn't learning anything from me. I have many other examples and am also frustrated with this feature. But, I am getting used to using the x box on the auto correct now.

Front Row only work correctly when iTunes is closed... (2.1.3 update)

I installed the Front Row update this morning, along with the iTunes and Quick Time updates. When I tried it quickly this morning it all worked fine. I've just been playing now with iTunes open to sync my iPod touch and Front Row said it couldn't find any songs in my library. I closed iTunes and tried again and now they're there! My iTunes library is stored on an external drive attached to my AirPort Extreme (air disc). Has anyone else suffered this problem, if it is indeed a problem? Is this how it's supposed to work?

Did you try simply downloading the latest version of iTunes using the link below and then installing it on top of the older version?

ITunes and Front-Row no longer in Sync

Since I moved my whole iTunes library to an external drive, Front-Row is no longer showing if a TV Show is new or not. And it won't update the iTunes counter for that show. The video-podcasts are working correctly. When I download a new one, it shows as new (with a blue mark) on front-row. But not the new TV-Shows I downloaded. I'm using Tiger, Mini-Mac Intel and Front-Row 1.x
The iTunes library is still at my internal drive, I just moved the Music folder to the external drive, and setup iTunes to read from there. Front-Row does show everything correctly, but its not in sync with iTunes.

Using iPhoto in Front Row without sharing

I know I could use iPhoto directly but is there any way to use iPhoto in Front Row without having to set up the share option in iPhoto?

Is iPhoto up-to-date? There were updates to Front Row in Mac OS X 10.4.x and both applications may need to be up-to-date. It's been a little while since I used Front Row in Tiger. iPhoto can be updated to version 6.0.6. There is also a Front Row update to version 1.3.1 that is specifically for iPhoto integration.

Front Row Video Distortion

I have a new iMac intel 20" screen, and I downloaded some TV shows from iTunes and they are very distorted - the sound is fine, but the picture is not good quality. I have downloaded the latest Front Row update (1.2.2), but it really did not help. Is there a way to fix this? All of my dvds play fine...would it help to burn the shows to a dvd then play them? Or could I change the screen resolution or media player? thanks!

What do you mean by distorted? Does it appear blocky or is there rough movement in dark backgrounds?
When you view the video using the window in iTunes, does the video look better?
If it looks better in a smaller screen, remember that the shows at the iTMS are compressed for viewing on the iPod, and while most of them display fine on a television screen, they may not look as good on your iMac screen at full screen. I see a lot of blockiness in things like Battlestar Galactica when I play them full screen on my 17'' Apple Display connected to my G5, but the TV handles them fairly well when playing them from the Mini using Front Row.

Front Row Trailers Always the Same

Ok, I'v been using Front Row for more than a month now, but all the movie trailers remain the same, despite frequent updates on the Apple's website. There are already new movies but Front Row still feeds me with trailers of movies months old. (I tried to find other posts about this issue, but most seem to focus on non-responding servers)
How do I make Front Row update the list of trailers? Please.

I think that it's a different server that runs the Front Row trailers. Up until recently, a ot of people would do good to get any trailers at all. They still do update, just less frequently than the Quicktime site.
They are also all in HD I believe, so that might factor into the limited number of them.
