Is there a full hardware soundboard controller for logic?

Is there a full hardware soundboard controller for logic?

OK, what you're looking for is called a (MIDI) Control surface.
There are LOTS of those, although they have no fixed assignments to their controls: they are all programmable (which is the whole point of it).

  • Sony DMX-R100 as controller for Logic

Hi guys, just wondering if anyone has ever tried using one of these desks as a control surface for logic ? We have one, but currently it is used only for monitoring. I would like to see if I can use it to change automation values (volume, pan etc...) on the fly with Logic, ie use it for mixing outside the box. I believe the best way to do this would be using MIDI, but when I look in the list for supported devices, it is not listed.
Is there a way to create a "generic" MIDI device, add it and then have audio tracks receive the midi data (being fader level, pan settings) sent from the desk ? I would obviously have to purchase some kind of midi to firewire or usb interface to read the data sent from the desk...
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated
    Cheers !

Yes. I think that unit has a USB port, but it doesn't actually do anything ("for expansion use in future").
Cheap MIDI to USB adapters start at around $5.

Once you get the right cable (or interface), you could try creating controller assignments using Learn Mode. The basic steps are easy:
Touch a control in Logic (e.g., in the Mixer window or any plugin window).
Press ⌘L to enter Learn Mode.
Move a control on your hardware device.
Press ⌘L again to leave Learn Mode.

  • Suggestions for controller for logic pro

    Hi;
I'm composer. And i want to buy staff for makind music on computer. I found many but they arent special for Logic pro.
I'll write want i want, please write your suggestion about what i need and have to buy..
Requirement about the staff that i want:
    * After i prepare my music' midi files by writing to Logic or Finale; i want to change this ınstruments with good sample sounds.
    * After that i want to control everything about music (tempo!,velocity, volume, balance etc.)with automation by using a analog table like a conductor.
    * By using this analog table, i want to change ınstrument effects. For example; When its neccessary i need to import pizzicato strings or staccato woodwinds etc.
*Like a rehearsal with symphonic orcestra, i want to order everything from this analog table.
Please suggest me staff which has ""every"" requirements that i need(with trade names)
(please attention : some suggestions hasn't got automation for tempo -ritardando, accelerando)
    Thank you for now.

jazzlife, I really suggest you read up on what Logic 7 can do and how it works. Logic uses both MIDI and recorded audio files and can use both real (external) and virtual (software) synthesisers. It is a very flexible piece of software and will fulfil all the requirements you have listed. I'm not sure what you mean exactly by an 'analog table' but be assured you have full control over every aspect of your music such as adding effects and mixing.
It is difficult to suggest exactly what you need because everybody's requirements are different.
If you wish to record audio then you will need an audio i/o device. Some good trade names are: RME, Apogee, MOTU and Presonus. There are others of course.
If you need a MIDI i/o device for external synths then I suggest you start look at MOTU. Also, some of the audio i/o devices have a built in MIDI port as well!
It might be useful to find a music shop that can advise you or put you in contact with someone near you who uses Logic.
I hope that helps you a bit.

  • Which mouse-type controller for logic?

which mouse-type controller would you suggest for using with logic pro?
i have no space on my desk at all, everything is occupied by my midi keyboard so there is no space for my apple keyboard. therefore i can't use keyboard shortcuts for quick editing and i'm left using my mouse only. i found one product from contour design which seems to be ideal for what i want http://www.contourdesign.com/shuttlepro/
maybe someone knows if it's any good or knows something similar and useful. i would be happier if i could choose between at least two alternatives. thanx for any advice!

I would buy a bigger desk then - how can you live without a keyboard????

I totally agree but for whatever reason they don't at the moment....
I just read that apple is providing updated printer driver packages sometimes (they just released packages for samsung, canon, gestedner etc.) so it seems they do take care about these issues.

  • What is the best MIDI controller for Logic, and is Axiom Pro the only line with "Hyper Control?

What is the best MIDI keyboard/control surface to use with LOGIC (Studio - which I assume is the latest & greatest version) and is Axiom Pro the only line that has Hyper control? I already own the Axiom Pro 61, but prefer more keys, and though I like much about it, the keys aren't very easy for playing more complex material, and there is an obvious delay regarding attack response (esp. noticeable at faster speeds). There are other issues as well I've read of regarding key sticking (though I consider myself lucky mine do not, there is nontheless a sluggish clunckiness issue which neither helps agility/acuracy nor the delay factor.) and the unit not lasting very long before it breaks and needs repairing. And lastly, I am no fan of Avid and care not to support them in the least.

Sorry, but is this an iPad question? Axiom Pro 61 is not an iPad-compatible peripheral, so perhaps you mean to post in the Logic forum?

  • Apple Remote as Transport Controller for Logic ( macbook, macmini, imac )

what about using the apple remote to control Logic, is it possible ? ..?? or is it just a good idea to ask the logic team for
    nicholas

    Hi there
I've got the transport working ok by teaching it the midi learn via 'Key Commands' (although play and record lights do not come on on the motif, which i would have liked. Is that possible?)
I would like to get the jog/scroll wheel working like the mackies - does anyone know what that function/command is called, in the global key commands screen? I can't find it...
    Cheers

  • How can I use my Dx7 as a MIDI controller for Logic Pro  9? I'm using MIDI/USB cable but Dx7 doesn't appear in the 'set-up' list, what am I doing wrong?

    I'm using Logic Pro 9 -  9.1.8
    MacBook Pro Retina OSX 10.9.3
DX7 2 FD connected to my laptop with a MIDI/USB cable
When I click the 'scan all models' search in the 'Control Surfaces Set Up' there is no Yamaha DX7 in the list so how can I make Logic 'see' the DX7?

As Colin pointed out, you have to look first in the Audio MIDI Setup. If your MIDI Device doesn't show up there, then Logic cannot see it either (unless you are using Logic Remote on your iPad to play over Wi-Fi).
I'm curious about the "MIDI/USB cable you mention. If the DX7 has a standard 5-pin DIN MIDI out jack, then you have to connect that to a MIDI Interface first that converts the MIDI signal to send it over the USB jack out. Please note that you would see the MIDI Interface in the Audio MIDI Setup  app and not the DX7 itself. Also, in Logic you would see the MIDI Interface in the Environment as a valid MIDI input device.
    Hope that helps

  • Areca controller for the x2100 fire server

    Hi
We just purchased the sun x2100 server, for the purpose of hosting some applications on the linux platform. Unfortunaly the nvraid controller is not well supported on the centos (red hat enterprise clone), and therefore we cannot get raid1 with failover to work on this server.
I have searched the market and found that the areca ARC-1210 controller to be a well supported controller on centos and other linux distros, and allso the best hardware raid controller for the pci-E port.
We have previously used 3ware controllers for this purpose, but amcc has not produced any controllers for the pci-e port.
Have anyone here any experiences with the areca controller on the x2100 server ? Its very important for us ta have a solid well working raid1 solution with failover and quick init restore while server is operative.

the areca controllers seem to have massive problems on the x2100 M2 (tested with areca 1210). Without disks attached to the controller the x2100 might boot (in some cases) but with disks attached to the controller it always fails. it couldbe / seems there is an interrupt problem (usb using irq15, controller using irq15).
this is even worse since areca is a very well supported controller on alot plattforms and the onboard nvidia fraid doesnt seem to work at all (rebuilding/state detection).
late reply, but better late then never :)

  • Hardware RAID Controller

    Hello,
Can someone tell me if there is ANY available RAID controller for Sparc platform, specifically E servers? I can't find anything anywhere on this, but it seems such a gaping hole I'm surely missing something. Anything equivalent to the myriad of controllers available from Adaptec, Compaq, Mylex, etc. on Intel? 3-rd party maybe?
    thx

Which "E server"? Sun sells the SRC/P RAID controller
on a PCI card. It was not qualified on all servers, so
it is difficult to answer your question specifically.

  • AD Controller for Cluster

This may be extremely basic HyperV cluster 101, but I need a quick double check on my understanding here...
We've got three identical hosts connected to a SAN, the plan being to create a cluster and doll out no more VMs than can comfortably fit on two hosts so that in case of all out failure of one of them, the VMs in question fail over to the third.
Then we realized that a cluster needs an AD Controller.  Now we could add a simple physical server, but that would create a serious single point of failure would it not?  IE, if it goes down the whole cluster is shot.  I suppose we could add
TWO small physical servers, one primary controller and one secondary, but that would add considerable expense considering the austere nature of this layout.
Only alternative I see is to create the AD Controller as a VM on one of the hosts and a secondary controller as a VM on another, such that in an all out host failure, there is still a domain controller for the cluster to function.
    Do I have that right?

    Hi,
Additional, the deployment of a domain controller in a virtual hosting environment adds certain requirements and considerations, we recommend that your clustered servers be
member servers. If they are, you need an additional server that acts as the domain controller in the domain that contains your failover cluster.

  • Electric Piano / Controller for LE?

    Hi All,
Does anyone know of a digital piano that could also double as a controller for Logic and Reason? What I really want/need is a digi piano that my kids can just turn on and play (built-in speakers), then when they go to bed I can plug in my MBP with LE and go to town.
I know I'm asking for the best of both worlds but thought it would hurt to ask. I was thinking of the Yamaha YPG-635 but I'm not sure if it would work as a controller? If anyone has any idea's or suggestions, I'm all ears.
    Thank you

Any keyboard with a MIDI out socket (and you'll need a suitable MIDI interface) will suffice as a controller. I'd imagine it would be more difficult to find a digital piano that didn't have MIDI out really.

  • Control surface for Logic Pro

    Hi There
Any ideas- what is the best control surface to use with Logic Pro?I would like a controller with at least 16 or 24 individaul faders.
Does the Mackie X Bus emulate a controller for Logic Pro?
    thank you
    G4 1.25 gig   Mac OS X (10.3.8)   G4,

I'm using a Mackie Control Universal and absolutely love it. The integration with Logic is top-notch. It would be nice to add an Extender and have 16 faders, but I'm finding that for what I do 8 faders at a time is plenty.
The X Bus has a Mackie Control layer that gives you the same amount of control. I believe the MCU's buttons are all displayed up on the X Bus screens. I'm sure you can find out more in the owners manual: http://www.mackie.com/products/digitalxbus/pdfs/X200OM_Ver1_04.pdf
    Good luck!

  • Help using Edirol Controller in Logic

I've just got an Edirol PCR-M1 and am not sure how/where you set it up in Logic 7. It works fine as a keyboard entering notes but I'm assuming it can be set up to do basic start/stop playback, filter sweeps, volume controls etc? (using the dials and buttons on the controller) Has anybody done this with this controller? Is anybody aware of a patch for this controller for Logic? (It didn't have one with it - well to put it another way, it had it for every software program, except Logic and there was nothing on Edirols' website!)
If nobody can offer a patch to set it up - where do I do it manually? Is it in the controller set-ups in preferences - this seemed like midi mixing desks/controllers? Is the keyboard controller classed the same?
Cheers in advance for any help or pointers.

There are a couple of ways you can go.
There is a PCR series control map which sets it up as a generic Logic Control emulation.
Look for the map attributed to 'teddybut' here:
    http://www.edirol.com/products/info/pcr/control_maps.html
(the page only mentions the older PCR series models, but I think it probably applies to all)
Or, you can set up your own map and use Logic's controller assignment scheme to do basically the same basic thing.
(read the Control Surface Support' section of the Logic Reference manual. Particularly the sub-section on the Controller Assignment Window.)
