Is there a future for Broadband Talk?

I've just read that the BT Home Hub 3 isn't compatible with any of the BT Hub Phones and doesn't support BT Broadband Talk.
I like the features of BBTalk and I like the Hub Phones, but I don't like dialling out on a different number than I expect people to call me on, so I use my BBTalk number as my primary number.
If it's going to be phased out, then this will be a serious nuisance.

I just clicked on the Find out more link of the Broadband Talk Softphone section from the Broadband Talk configuration page and you get a Page not found message. :-(
I get it that new customers don't get BBTalk but I want qualification of the statement "If you ordered before this date you can still continue to use your Broadband Talk service."

  • Hub for Broadband Talk

Hello, I currently have a BT Voyager 220V ADSL Voice Router for my BT Broadband service. I would however like to upgrade to a wireless hub such as the Home Hub 3.
However I understand there is no phone socket on the back and I will therefore lose my Broadband Talk service which I find useful. Is there a wireless hub available on the market that will still support BT Broadband Talk?

PS. This is my first post so I hope I'm doing it right!

A wireless access point (WAP) has an Ethernet connection to the Voyager 220V. Computers that do not have any built-in wireless cards, will need USB wireless adapters.
Here is an example of a WAP which I own, and works very well.

and a suitable USB adapter for any computer without a wireless card. I also have one of these.

  • Call charges for Broadband Talk

    Hi
I wonder if anyone can help. I have an unlimited anytime plan with BT and use Broadband Talk. As I understand it, calls from Talk fall under the same tariff as the main phone line, so I am confused as to why I get charged for calls to a local number, eg, a 11 min call to a local UK number at 1pm on a weekday cost me £1.09.
According the the BT tariff plan (http://www.bt.com/pricing/current/Cust_Opts_Res_boo/2-3230_d0e91.htm) this call should be free.
I am missing something or am I being charged when I should not be?
    Thanks
    Steve

    Hi.
Unfortunately you are missing something I'm afraid. BBTalk is not the same as a normal landline and is treated as a different line - they each have different calling plans too depending on where you call.
    The tariff plan you show
    http://www.bt.com/pricing/current/Cust_Opts_Res_boo/2-3230_d0e91.htm
does actually show that the call you made will cost 11 x 7.95p plus any connection charge. At the very top if the page it shows that you need to pay the anytime plan cost of £6.20 per month. (My figures include vat)

    Hi Imko,
Recently I've attanded SAP TechEd 2011 LV and there I also searched for an ansver to this question.
What I learned is that SAP is not going to publish any newer version of SAP CS and will let Partner Products to be used as Content Server for SAP DMS, PLM and other DMS based scenarios.

  • Is there a future for Firefox on the Mac Power PC platform (such as G4 and G5)?

I just bought a PowerMac dual G5, because I didn't see a point going to the Intel based ones, as I could just buy a PC at that point. I was hoping that Mozilla would keep making a browser for the PowerPC based Mac's running 10.5. Seems everyone is discontinuing application support for the PowerPC version of Mac OS 10.5. I wanted to know if there was one in the works or not. I know mozilla is still supporting Windows XP, which is a much older operating system than Mac OS 10.5.

3.6.x versions are the last from Mozilla for PPC's.

  • Is there a future for Iweb in Icloud?

What will happen to our websites?  I've heard that apple has extended their patent, that iweb is done when icloud appears, DOES anyone know if they let us know if they will let us know before they cut the cord?

There has been no official word on the fate of iWeb, iDisk, or web hosting.  There has been no official word on what features of iCloud will require Lion and iOS 5 and what will work on earlier OS versions.  I'm sure Apple will let everyone know the answers sometime within the next 12 months.

  • What's happening with BT Broadband Talk??

When I joined BT some years ago I was advised to use BT Broadband Talk, as this was a VOIP service the calls made via BT Broadband Talk were cheaper than made via a landline (at least that was what they told me when they sold this to me).
Recently I found out that the call rates for Broadband Talk calls and landline calls are the same, but also that some of my calling plan features do NOT apply to Broadband Talk calls!!
As I have been using only my Broadband Talk number to make calls, I was just paying for calling plans while they were not being applied on my calls. I don't know when BT all changed this, but it looks to me like they are phasing out the whole BT Broadband Talk service!
Can anyone let me know what is happening with Broadband Talk???
(I guess I better use skype anyway...)

That's indeed what I thought but when I was chatting with a BT support person, this was what she told me (copied from the chat log):
"Quatta: Can you send me the international calling rates to Netherlands, Spain, Belgium and Germany when calling from the main line vs when calling from the broadband talk line?
Junaid  : the prices are same if you call from land line or bt talk broadband i will tell you the charges bare with me
Quatta: Okay thanks - yes please send me the rates
       Junaid  : Netherland-2.50, Spain-2.50, Belgium-2.50 and Germany-2.50 all the amount is 2.50 pence."
After this i search the bt site to see whether BT BB-Talk had cheaper internatonal rates listed (as i did not trust this chat-reply) but no where on the site you find seperate BT BB-Talk rates for international calls. This chat happened on dec-7, 2011 - that's why i started thinking that BT is making this voip service less attractive so that their existing customers drop out on it and they can terminate it (as they already stopped taking on / promoting BB-talk to new clients). So don't think the cheap calls advantage is there anymore. cheers Rob

  • How can I disable Broadband Talk

Signed up for Anytime Internet and calls, but when dialling out the hub phone uses the Broadband Talk number rather than the landline number which I'd like to use as I don't get charged on that line. Didn't ask for Broadband talk line for it to be the default one. Anyone know why this is and how I can disable it to use the landline number only? Thanks

    copied from BT help pages
"To remove all Broadband Talk accounts:
Open an Internet browser window and type in http://bthomehub.home
When the BT Home Hub web page has loaded, click on the 'Advanced' link on the left hand menu.
The web page on the right will change. Click on the 'Continue to Advanced ...' link on this new page.
The BT Home Hub will ask you to enter your username and password. What is the username and password for my BT Home Hub or Voyager router?
On the left hand menu choose 'Telephony' and the right hand page will change.
On the new page scroll down until you see the heading 'Telephone Numbers'.
Below this heading you will see all the Broadband Talk numbers set up on your BT Home Hub. To clear the number from the BT Home Hub click on the 'Delete' link to the right of the Broadband Talk number. Repeat this until all the numbers are cleared.
Click on 'Apply' and close the Internet browser window.
You have successfully removed all of the Broadband Talk accounts from your Home Hub.
This will disable your broadband talk."
Alternatively you can dial "5" before each number, which will cause the call to default to your landline.
If you are never going to use the extra free number, then you ask BT to cease it.

    Yuh think ! ? !
That was 75% of the reason. It was waaaaay overpriced.
The ports being on the bottom, where no one could get at them, was another big reason it was not accepted by the public.
I am among those who have been pushing for a desktop system with a mini-like footprint, but imac-like performance -- but I've been advocating this since before the Mini existed.
One idea I put forward in my Mac User Group's newsletter was for a machine just slightly taller than a mini that docks into a cinema display-type monitor. This would allow apple to sell them together for an imac experience, or separately.
Regardless of whether or not they did the docking thing, this is the computer system that could really bring about great Mac acceptance in the corporate world. But of course Apple ignores that space and seem deaf to the needs of industry.

  • Future for Visual Composer

A consultant told our department manager that SAP was not going to enhanse Visual Composer; that it would only get bug fixes.  I think he may have confused 7.0 with 7.1/7.2.  Is there a future for Visual Composer or is it a waste of time.

Well, since you've had the same problem, with three different phones, that all use different size sim cards, it seems pretty obvious the problem is with your carrier/coverage & nothing to do with your phone or sim card.

  • Broadband Talk activated without asking for it, un...

Hi Everyone, I dialled the wife yesterday and she didn't pick up as she didn't recognise the number. After a little digging around and looking at the router settings, it seems broadband talk has been activated. As the only person in the house that can do this (nobody else has the hub password), and safe in the knowledge that I haven't activated it, I can only assume this has been done without my authorisation. The only thing I can think of is that recently a tech support guy from bt recently fiddled with the settings of the homehub while sorting out a wifi connectivity issue (the radio had stopped working, I think he performed a firmware update to solve it). I would guess that BB talk has ben active since, although I have no way of telling until I get a bill with the new number on it. Without spending the next few weeks getting frustrated banging my head against the wall named "telephone customer support", what's the best route I can take in order to have this removed so that my proper phone number dials out? I realise that people are still able to dial in on the old number. Many thanks, Tel.

    Hi and welcome
You can delete the BB Talk facility by going into the setup of the homehub.
    1. enter 192.168.1.254 into your address bar of your browser
    2. enter your password
    3. Go to settings and then advanced settings
    4. click on the telephony tab
    5. You can then view the BB talk phone number shown against service status and then delete it
    6. Click save
