Is there a GBIC to sfc patch cable?

I believe the currently installed fiber is GBIC, but the switch converter is mini-GBIC.  Is there a way to get these to work together?
Thanks.

I'm not really sure what you mean, GBIC is a type of interface convertor  and usually has SC Fibre connectors, the mini-GBIC you are referring to may be an SFP which is a smaller type of interface convertor and usually has LC Fibre connectors.
GBICs and SFPs will work together as long as they are the same type ie Single Mode or Multi Mode and you also need to make sure the TX and RX Optical Power levels are within the specified limits at both ends of the link.
On some switches the command "show inventory" may show the type of interface convertor installed.
SITE-A-CAT#show inventory

Or try the command "show interfaces gi/x/x/x capabilities" (where gix/x/x) is the interface number.

  • Minimum Fiber Patch Cable Length for MGBSX1

I want to "stack" a couple 300 series gigabit switches with fiber using a pair of MGBSX1 GBICs and a single LC to LC patch cable.
Is there a minimum supported patch cable length in this configuration?

    Howard,
Thank you for posting. You should have no issues using a short fiber patch between the switches. Just make sure the fiber doesn't bend too sharply and get damaged.

  • Ethernet Patch Cable from One iMac to AirPort Extreme Please help!

Hi, I have an iMac on one side of my home office, and a cable modem connected to my AirPort Extreme. I just bought a 25 ft. patch cable to run and connect to the router for faster speeds, but it is not working. I tried connecting it to the AirPort and the modem, and I did not get a light on the AirPort extreme or on the modem (I have disabled the wireless functionality on the gateway so it is just a modem now). I noticed that the cable has metal on the sides of the plug. Does that mean anything? How can I connect this and get it working properly?
    Please help me!

your post is a little confusing
your imac is on one side of your home, and both your cable modem and extreme are on the other side of the house?
temporarily move the imac to the same side and try a different cable, seems like a cable issue

  • Is there a female-to-female lightning cable joiner?

As was stated above, is there a female-to-female lightning cable joiner where you can plug in two lightning cables and essentially make one extended cable?
    Thanks,
    D.A.

Both of you are correct about there generally being a USB end, I am simply trying to see if one exists. This also begs the question is there is a male to male lightning cable? I know that there are male to female cables and dock extenders. The application for all of this would be in instances such as the lightning/hdmi converter - unless you have a very long HDMI cable you are tied within a few inches of the TV or other device unless you can extend your lightening cable.
    Thank you for the replies!

  • Cross patch cable Connection to iMac

Is it possible to hardwire a time capsule to an iMac using a cat 5e cross patch cable?

Why do you want to use a cross patch cable?? If it is simply because you have one.. fine.. just use it.. but modern ethernet gear is all designed to self determine if it needs straight or xdress.. xover.

  • SFP and Mode Conditioning Patch Cable

Is it safe to assume any SFP designed for single mode fiber  (i.e., MGBLH1) can work with multi-mode fiber if using a mode conditioning patch cable?

It should work. The "mode conditioner" adds a loss in your optical link, typically 2 db.
If you want be sure you must do a link budget.
    Regards.

the phone says it is not charging even though it actually is. Check and see if that's the case. A very underhanded trick by Apple so they can charge 10 times what the cable is worth. They do not win admirers by that proprietary trickery.

  • Is there a Thunderbolt to Component Video cable / adapter for the new iMac?

    Hello!
My church is looking to purchase a new iMac to run our presentation software.
We currently have a PC that has a graphics card which has a component-out cable.  We connect that to a component video distribution amplifer to distribute to several HDTVs and a projector.
Is there a way to connect the iMac to a component video (Y, Pb, Pr or Red blue Green) input?
I understand that DVI is digital and Component is analog, but has anyone found a device, cable, and/or adapter that will do the job?
    Thanks,
    Randy

    There's at least this one:
    http://www.amazon.com/DisplayPort-Composite-Video-S-Video-Converter/dp/B004VV8R8 6
and the review says that it works with current Macs, but I can't verify.
    Regards.

  • Is there a way to watch VerizonFIOS cable TV on iMAC using HDMI Input?

I have a 2014 iMac.  I recently moved and now have VerizonFIOS cable.  The output for the cable box is HDMI.  From what I can see on the back of my iMac, I have two Thunderbolt ports, and multiple USB 3 ports.  Is there a way to use the HDMI cable from the cable box so I can watch TV on my iMac?

Not directly, I recommend contacting Elgato.com and see which of their products suits your needs. Apple doesn't put TV tuners in their computers, that is why you need an Elgato device.

  • How do I migrate? There are no 6pin-6pin firewire cables...

I just got my new iMac Intel yesterday. It wants me to hook up a firewire cable between it and my old G4 to transfer settings, etc. I would really like to do this because I have no idea how to set up internet access through Comcast. They sent a guy out to do that to the G4.
I've been to 4 different stores trying to find a firewire cable with the large (6 pin) fitting at each end. There are lots of 6 pin to 4 pin cables, and 4 pin to 4 pin cables, but no 6 pin to 6 pin cables. What was Apple thinking?
I realize that I can transfer files over ethernet, but I can't have Setup Assistant do the internet stuff for me that way. Has anyone out there done this? How did you find a cable?
    Thanks,
    Mr 9 Ball

Apple says to hook the machines together
with a 6 pin to 6 pin firewire cable. As far as I can
    tell, they don't exist.
They do exist. They're usually used to connect external hard drives. Keep asking around and give some smaller computer stores a look they sometimes have stuff that the big names wont stock.
If you're willing to wait a couple of days you could order one online. I can't recommend any online stores but a quick search with Google found http://www.cablestogo.com/product.asp?cat%5Fid=609&sku=16990 and http://www.cablesunlimited.com/products/Prod_Group.aspx?groupcode=G0210&itemNo=M SC-5000-01M

  • Broken Firewire Divice, Is There Another Way To Use Firewire Cable For PB?

Hi. It seems to me that the firewire divice of my pb titanium no longer works.
Is there another method to connect the firewire cable to my pb?
I simply want to transfer heavy date from ipod to pb through firewire cable.
    Thanks in advance.

Hi, pasteurization. If the FireWire port on your Powerbook no longer works, you can buy a relatively inexpensive CardBus adapter that will provide a FireWire port or ports and spare you the high cost of replacing your logic board. Here is one example — there are many others on the market:
    http://fwdepot.com/thestore/productinfo.php/productsid/323
I chose this one as an example because its vendor is unusually clear in explaining the following (I've added the boldface):
"CB1394DET is designed with power-class 0 so it does not need power and does not provide bus power to the IEEE 1394 Bus. No power limitations on Self-powered devices, CB1394DET supports all Self-powered devices. It will not support all Bus-Powered devices. Optional FireWire repeater is a must for Bus-Powered devices. Please contact us for more info about FireWire repeaters."

  • Choosing correct optical patch cable based on SFP module

can someone share information regarding the topic (all cable parameters should pass to a certain SFP module: connector type; mode type; diameter etc)?

Ok, so you'll need a patch cord of the following specifications:
<LENGTH> - You choose whether you want pre-made 10 metres or you can get them to customize the length (will cost more, obviously).
    Terminating end types - LC to LC (Duplex);
    Multi-Mode optical fibre;
OM4 - You can use OM3 if you want but I'd rather use OM4.  Don't even attempt to try OM1 or OM2.
<COLOR>-  Your choice.  Normally, OM4 is aqua but you can choose any color you want (may cost more).  DO NOT USE YELLOW as this means a different type of cable (single-mode).  You do not want to make your fibre optic cabling confusing for everyone.
NOTE:  If someone wants to sell you an "angle cut" multi-mode fibre, they need to be taken out and shot.
