Is there a glitch in my indesign? Jumping layers

When I try to export to a pdf. there are random layers on each page that end up either dissapearing or jumping somewhere else on this page? Is that normal? What can I do? Would adobe be able to fix it or give me a new version that works properly if this doesn't work?

Good Reader is not an Apple app, so any updates will have to be done by the app developer.
Unless you have jailbroken your iPad, there are no known viruses or malware.
Are you using the Good Reader app or the Good Reader 4 app? The Good Reader app had low ratings/reviews. Whereas, Good Reader 4 has high ratings/reviews.

  • There was a problem updating InDesign CC For more information see the specific error below.  Update Failed Download error.  Press Retry to try again or contact customer support.(49)

Posted the entire text from the error window, when trying to update, using the normal NON-TECHIE way to update any and all Adobe CC products, via the Creative Cloud updater installed when Adobe Creative Cloud subscription was purchased when first offered.
    The following occurs, ad nauseam:
There was a problem updating InDesign CC
For more information see the specific error below.
    Update Failed
Download error.  Press Retry to try again or contact customer support.(49)
Here's the crux of my frustration:
    (1) Customer Service is NOT contact-able, to receive LIVE help.
    (2) There is NO way for me to mitigate this "Download error", being a student learning InDesign, and NOT in any way capable of tweaking folders/files here and there.
    Therefore, the real question:
Given that a significant number of subscribers are having the above referenced issue with attempting to download the current update for InDesign, WHAT ARE WE SUPPOSED TO DO, in order to get our contractually paid-for updates to our legally and contractually paid-for Adobe software, specifically in my case, InDesgin's current update?
Please, NO TECHNICAL mumbo-jumbo which most likely will cause the overwhelming majority of users, like me, to seriously corrupt their computer files, but rather an honest, straightforward "what to do" from real CS/Engineers working for Adobe, as to how to FIX this issue, period.
    ===========================================================
    UPDATE:
Here is a way in which I think I was able to "update" my InDesign CC application:
    (1) Sign-In to your Adobe Account
    https://www.adobe.com/
    (2) Click on the MENU icon
    (3) Click on the product InDesign icon
Your browser should display the page for Adobe InDesign CC
    https://www.adobe.com/products/indesign.html?promoid=KLXLU
    (4) Click on the Download icon,
Your browser should now display the page to download InDesign,
    https://creative.adobe.com/products/download/indesign
    (5) a Pop-Up window should open, and display:
      Launch Application
This link needs to be opened with an application.
with the first option to select being the CreativeCloud(URIHandler)
    (5) Select this application and click OK.
What happened when I followed steps (1) thorugh (5) is that:
    (a) InDesign CC(2014) was installed,
    (b) InDesign CC, updated, and then
    (c) InDesign CC(2014), also updated.
Why this all worked, is a mystery to me.
Looks like a separate, "new" version of InDesign, InDesign CC(2014), was installed, the existing "old" InDesign was updated, and then the newly installed Indesign CC(2014) was further updated.
A BIT MORE, when I launched my InDesign CC app, and checked to see if there were Updates Available, there in fact was an Adobe InDesign CC 64 bit (9.2.2) update.
I clicked on UPDATE and my "old" InDesign CC app was "successfully updated."
FURTHER INFO:  I may have neglected to list some important info ... OS:  Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center, 64-bit
Confused, I am able to launch BOTH of these apps, and hopefully I may use one of these versions of the InDesign CC app, to do some InDesign work.
    Will keep y'all posted!

  • Just bought a dell pc with windows 8. on my old pc (vista) i would right click a movie (in itunes format) and say open with itunes and it would play. Now it won't open in itunes and it just CRASHES. HELP PLEASE. is there a glitch with win 8???

okay not sure how this works so here i go again.
Okay i bought a dell pc with windows 8 (big mistake) i downloaded itunes and from my external hard drive, right clicked a movie file (in ipad format, because this worked in vista on my old laptop) and it will not go into itunes. And itunes keeps crashing. Is there a glitch with win 8 and itunes ? I never had this prob with vista. I would right click a file and say open with itunes and poof it goes in the library. Please help before i throw this thing out the window! OH newest itunes is what i have installed.

Take a look at this MBP, a refurbished unit.  Don't let the late 2011 release date put you off.  For about  $500 less than an equivalent 'new' one with similar specifications you get a quad core CPU and excellent graphics.  As Steve359 mentioned, this can be upgraded if the need arises and has the same warranty as a 'new' one
I would not be surprised that these may actually be 'new' MBPs due to the length of time that they have been replaced by the current generation.  I purchased a 17" model about 5 weeks ago, and a serial number check suggests that it is 9 weeks old.

  • Is there a plug-in for Indesign Interactive PDF buttons which simulates the same control as Acrobat?

I want to know if there is a third party out there making plug-ins for Indesign CS6 specifically for interactive PDF buttons and forms which allows for better control over text boxes.... ie. date formatting, 1-10 characters per text boxes, etc.

Not that I've heard of. You'll have to tweak those features in Acrobat Pro.

  • I'm running Windows 7 and iTunes and the other Apple programs wouldn't automatically update. Went through all the options and finally had to delete all Apple files and re-download iTunes. Worked fine, until the next update. Is there a glitch in the system

I'm running Windows 7 and iTunes (and the other Apple programs) wouldn't automatically update. Went through all the options and finally had to delete all Apple files and re-download iTunes. Worked fine, until the next update. Is there a glitch in the system? Does someone know of some proprietory block (I think it is related to Quicktime)? Also, once I re-downloaded everything, cleaned everything up, and deleted duplicate files, I closed down my computer. When I re-started it, iTunes was "brand new" -- all of my music, organization, tagging, etc. was gone and had to start over. Idea?

Ok, so after like 4 days of going through all these different issues, I figured out that several programs weren't downloading, and it was an issue with my wireless connectivity messing up the digital signatures, so if you plug in your comp to the modem and delete your temp files, it should start to work!

Have you reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears on the screen? If that doesn't resolve this, you can try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will not lose any data, but all device settings will have to be entered again.
If that doesn't fix it, your next step might be to backup then erase all content and settings or restore the iPad to factory settings. See how if goes if you reset all settings first.

  • Hello, is there a way to export or save layers from Indesign to separate png or pdf -files?

Hello, is there a way to export or save layers from Indesign to separate png or pdf -files? I have a Indesign document with serveral layers and I need them as separate png files.
I know that is is possible with Illustrator but can't find it for Indesign.
    Thanks a lot.

The script Peter's noting is in #122 here:

It is OSX only and exports PDFs for creating Photoshop layers. The exported PDFs get trashed so if you can use AppleScript I can edit out the Photoshop part post a version that only saves the PDFs

  • Layered InDesign to Layered Illustrator? Photoshop? (CS4)

    Howdy!
Is there any (relatively) simple way to get a layered InDesign file into a layered Illustrator or Photoshop file?
I'm hoping for something better than copy/paste each layer.
    Thanks in advance!
    -Ted

You MIGHT have luck with exporting a Layered PDF and opening that in Illustrator, but don't expect miracles, or flowing type, or even everything where it belongs. Illustrator is not a general purpose PDF editor and will only give really good results if the PDF started life in Illustrator.
As far as I know there is no way to get a layered file into Photoshop in layers, or in any sort of editable condition, for that matter.

    Hi
Bookmark management is important, especially when using multiple browsers. Unfortunately, each browsers approach is sorely lacking.
Given you have numerous bookmarks, consider trying out a 3rd party Bookmark Manager. The best out there at the moment is Bookdog. I'm not sure if it permits color coding of folders, however, it seems to simplify locating and managing URL's. Sometime later this year, the vendor this replaces this product with one better suited to Leopard. It's called BookMacster.

  • The way InDesign's layers was designed

Why isn't InDesign's Layers feature designed like Illustrator's, having the ability to easily manipulate the paths (as Il would call them) within the layers? If you can, how?

Even with InDesign CS5 and above, there are occasions where I find the representation of objects in the Layers Panel something strange.
If you place an Image, you have to alt + click to select the image itself and not its container object. The container object is not shown as distinct from its contents (the image).
And it's getting really weird, if you paste an image (I mean the container of the image together with the image) into a rectangle. Explain that to a novice! It's hard enough to teach, that placed images always have a container object and cannot stand alone ;-)
How it is (an image pasted inside a rectangle):
How it should be shown (in my oppinion).
This screen shot is made up with PhotoShop:
    "Ebenen" is "Layers", "Grafikrahmen" means "Graphic Frame";
I'm using a German UI here.

  • Is there any way to merge 2 video layers to one without exporting?

Is there any way to merge 2 video layers into one without exporting as a new QuickTime movie? I have tried opening a blank player to copy and paste into, but it always forces it to be layered, even when I change the layer numbers both to zero. I tried extracting the video layers and omitting the audio tracks. Then I saved it as a new self contained movie. I am trying to burn the video to dvd with Roxio Easy Media Creator 9's MyDVD on WIndows XP, but I am also using a MacBook with QuickTime Pro. MyDVD will only recognize one video and audio layer at a time, hence, the other layers get skipped. There should be an easy way to merge two video layers without having to export it as a new movie, which takes 2 hours for this 2 hour TV show. Thanks for any answers.

    Just closing this topic.

  • Is there any need for an InDesign user to use InCopy as well?

We are looking to do a software refresh from CS3 to CS5, and when auditing users we discoverd a handful of people that are using InDesign and InCopy.  My previous thoughts about InCopy, was that the program isn't needed if you have InDesign, but users have given the following reasons for using both.  Can someone tell me if these reasons are founded, or if there is a way to do these things in InDesign only?
Example 1:  InDesign: Use to edit pages before going to press, cut copy to fit, re-write headlines and insert captions.  InCopy:  Use daily to perform first reads and content edits of stories submitted by writers and to write my own copy, and to format stories before sending them to the copy editor for final editing.
Example 2:  InCopy CS2 I use in conjunction w/InDesign when we create an issue.
Example 3:   I use Adobe Incopy CS2 several times per week to format and file stories with our copydesk. I also use Adobe InDesign CS3 to make cuts and late edits on page each week before my section ships to the printer.
Example 4:  Use both daily for printed materials
Input is greatly appreciated!  Thank you

Thank you John, for one user it appears he is doing to copy editing as well as the design.  He is using InCopy to format tex files before they are imported in InDesign.  Can you tell me if InDesign can be used as a word-processing software?
Here are exaples of a few of the other workflows: When I send stories to our copy chief, they have to be in an InCopy template for him to format the fonts. FM's two reporters send stories to me in Word, and I edit them before putting them in an InCopy template and sending them proofread. They then do an initial proofread for house style before formatting them and sending them to our art department for page layout in InDesign.
After the pages are laid out by our art director, I use InDesign in order to cut stories to fit, proofread and edit and write captions on page. Years ago, we had an additional copy editor to help our copy chief with this stage of the process, but he got laid off. They gave me and one other editor copies of InDesign at that point, so that we could distribute his work on shipping days. Since we're a weekly, I currently use both of these programs extensively every week.
It appears these users are wearing multiple hats, I was just under the impression that InDesign could do anything that InCopy does (and more ofcourse).  Apparently I was incorrect?
