Is there a good online repair service?

My "early 2008" imac is getting sluggish, I wonder if there is an online service that can help me fix this that is reputable?

How much RAM installed into your iMac?
To find out info about your system,
Click on the Apple symbol in the upper left of the OS X main menu bar. A drop down menu appears.
Click About this Mac. A smaller popup window appears. This gives you basic info like what version of OS X your iMac is running, the speed of your iMac's CPU and how much RAM is installed.
Click on the button that says More Info. A larger window appears giving you a complete overview of your iMac's hardware specs.
Highlight all of this info and copy/paste all of this into another reply to this post, editing out your iMac's serial number before actually posting the reply.
This will tell us everything about your iMac so we may begin to help with your iMac issues.
How full is your Mac's hard drive?
Locate your iMac's hard drive icon on the OS X desktop. Click the icon once, then use the keyboard key combination Command-I. This will give you additonal info about your iMac's internal hard drive.
Do you run any antivirus software on your Mac? Antivirus software can slow down the normal operation of OS X.
Do you run any "crapware" like Mackeeper or any other type of so called hard drive "cleaning" and/or "tuneup" style apps?
These are bad, also, and need to be completely uninstalled per the instructions found on the app developer's own website.

  • What is good online storage service?

I am looking for an affordable but good online storage service. I heard of backblaze. Anyone with experience please respond.

Rated #1 for many years now is godaddy.com
Purchase a private website for $20 a year and $100 a year for unlimited storage.
Been using same now for 14+ years.
drag and drop all/any of your files thru an FTP client such as Filezilla or otherwise to your own private website for access anywhere on earth and as "best option" for 3rd archive point (first 2 being HD clones and/or HD archived stored away)

  • Online Streaming services

There are numerous online streaming services which make it possible to watch selected TV programs on my Apple computer.
How can I view/transmit these programs to a HD TV:
    1. Can Apple TV be used for this purpose?
    2. If not, how should the computer be connected to the TV set? Via airport express?

No, unless you have an ios device (iphone, ipod touch, ipad) and they have an app/enable support with the next update.
To connect a computer to the TV you would have to do so via cables. Alternatively there are other streaming devices but you would have to research as to what fits your needs.

  • What security products are suggested for scrubbing rootkits from a Mac? There are good articles on similar repair for PCs and it makes me want to see if I can save this machine. It's in forensic recovery right now so I myself have not done anything yet.

What security products are suggested for scrubbing rootkits from a Mac? There are good articles on similar repairs for other makes online. I would like to investigate whether a machine can be truly scrubbed or if it's best to retire it. I haven't done anything yet as it is a candidate for more extensive forensic recovery.
Also, I am not sure if various malicious spoofing and cloaking tricks (making Wi-Fi appear off when it is on, hiding unauthorized sharing/remote access, falsifying System Preferences preference panes, etc.) are resolved by a thorough drive erase or are more similar to APTs?
Finally, is there any emerging information regarding APT hiding places other than the recovery partition? I have heard mention of the EFI, for example, but it seems unproven and unlikely. Some people have also mentioned the RAM.
This is an upsetting topic to some people, including me, so I appreciate circumspect, measured responses. Thanks! And don't try to answer all my questions if you really just want to comment or answer one. All thoughts are appreciated.

    Hi, Lincoln,
A straightforward question. You are correct in recognizing the difference between tentative conclusion and certainty. Here are our main reasons:
    1. Incoming items noted on the console (or console sub logs) and Activity Monitor after defenses are overcome, and which are brought in by an unwelcome remote user, often have a process name and the word "kit." (Bear with me.) We soon observe the process is under attack, from terminal evidence and soon, decreased or lost functionality of the process. The terminal generally reports alteration of specific kernel behaviors. A simple example (that may or may not be accompanied by kernel changes and may simply alter permissions) is modifying Disk Utility such that key uses are unavailable. You can see how an attacker might value disabling partition views, mounting and permission repair. In retrospect, DU might not be a root alteration. I was thinking that its relation to fsck flagged it as a possible ring 0 item. I may need to know core parameters of a good example to pick strong ones.
    2. Incoming folders hidden for possible later use contained bundles of similar root kits, including some not applicable to Macs. From what I have read from reasonably credible sources, root kits are sold and traded both singly and in bundles.
    3. Root kits are a logical next choice for our attackers, as various prior techniques hindered us but did not paralyze us.
    4. One of the most authoritative articles I found was about PCs not Macs. I noted the assertion, undocumented, that an estimated one million computers are infected by root kit manipulations, and underscored that the kits can be used by people with low computer skills.
    5. MacAfee lists root kits (by description, not name) as a top pop five threat prediction in the coming year, though again, the emphasis is on PCs.
Linc, I am trying to show a spectrum of observations and info that have shaped my thinking. To retrieve better captured evidence requires significant legwork at this time, but it is something I am willing to do if you can be patient. Understand this long attack has been like a natural disaster to us.
I have not linked a few articles of interest because I forget if that's allowed. If so, I'd be glad to.
After reviewing this partial answer, you may form another hypothesis. If so, please share it. I am comfortable with my position but not clinging to it.
Thanks for your interest. Looking forward to your thoughts.
Oh, yeah: some material is out for analysis, so we should have credible opinions pretty soon. Not positive exactly when.

  • My daughter is missing and has her iPhone 4S with her. When I log into iCloud it says online, location services off. Does that mean there is no way for me to track the phone?

My daughter has been missing for a week and has a serious medical condition. She has an iPhone 4S and when I log into find my iPhone it says online , location services off. Does that mean there is no way to track the phone?  Please  I'm willing to try anything to get my baby home. Thanks.

Without location services, there's no way the device can be tracked.  It's location services that provide the device's location to any apps that need that info, including the Find My iPhone service.  Sorry.

    Hi Harikrishnan,
According to your description, my understanding is that you got an error when you used Machine Translation Service in SharePoint 2013.
Firstly , make sure the Machine Translation Service is running on ‘Manage sercies on server’.
    Then , do the followings:
    1. Ensure the Machine Translation Service application has web access:
    2. Validate the MachineTranslationAddress, MachineTranslationClientId, and MachineTranslationCategory for the Machine Translation Service application

  • Online Repair Support Services Down???

My iPod nano screen just went blank on me yesterday.
I tried requesting repair services online for my defective iPod nano. However, the support services are down after the page about the "Five Rs". Alas, my warranty is due to expire tomorrow. I need to fill in this form now!

Ooops.... I didn't mean to say warranty.
Within 180 days, no shipping and handling fee will be charged for defective products ($30... pretty hefty). Today is my last day.
The farthest I have gotten is "Troubleshoot and Identify Your iPod's Issue". By pressing continue, I get a "We're sorry, the transaction cannot be completed at this time. Please try again later or contact us."

  • I am suspicious that qualified repair service of Apple with name Lydia in Turkey stole my parts in iPhone

    Hi everyone!
I bought my iPhone 5 from Covent Garden Apple Store in London. I am still keeping the receipt with me. Due to my problem with sleep wake button, i would like to have repair service and i found out that it is in the change program. For this reason i gave my phone to Lydia Service in Ankara in Turkey. I left my phone in the repair service and later they called me and informed me that my iPhone was opened before and two screws holding my iPhone screen are missing. I didn't give my iPhone before to any repairman and it was opened first time by Lydia Service. They refused to repair it, because due to opening of my iPhone before, took out my phone from the change program. Now there is no warranty. I really ****** of as my iPhone was opened by them first time.
I am suspicious that one of the guy from this service made some mistake and by lying to me, he try to save himself. Even i am suspicious that he stole some parts from my iPhone. I opened a ticket in Apple support. The Apple support guy told me to give my phone back to Lydia service again. I refused since two screws  are missing and i would not like to lose other parts of my iPhone. I am not thrusting Lydia service in Turkey any more. I provided my phone to another service and they took photos to send to apple. At that time the guy who is taking care of my case went to vacation without providing the contact detail of the person replacing him. Finally i find the replacement employee's contact detail, but he is not responding. My iPhone is still not with me. No one is responding from Apple.
First, As a customer who can protect me from this kind of people in Lydia Service? Lydia service opened the case of  my iPhone  and they are saying two screws are missing which means for me that they stole them and they took it out from the warranty.
Secondly, why this customer support for Turkey is not responding although i have an open  ticket in their system. Why they don't have quality of control in their support system? I really ****** off. I don't know how to solve my problem, is there any way to escalate the issue? Any advice is more than welcome.
Ps: Also there is a possibility of assembling my iPhone without these two screws during the production phase which is unlikely to happen.
    Thanks in advance.

    USELESS ONLINE HELP FACILITIES
For all the amazing productivity aids that APPLE offers the world I have to report that their online support service is worse than useless and has recently been the source of immense time wasting and irritation.
Incident 1. Since many months attempts to download new and updated APPs produced a response – Apple ID Disabled. I had no time to consult an APPLE Store due to work in distant lands. When I finally visited yesterday I was told that as my IPAD has been reported as stolen, and APPLE in its wisdom had blocked its usage! I am not sure how they became so misinformed and nobody every advised me while with a few swift moves APPLE could have located me by email address or SKYPE.
Incident 2. Once the above anomaly had been fixed I tried to down load a newspaper and diligently input my address, credit card number and personal data. Repeatedly I was advised that my Credit Card was invalid and my postal code was incorrect! Really!
I was left to guess that having moved from UK to the US I should have advised APPLE! Not being told of this requirement brought about a second visit to APPLE Store in the same day to waste both mine and their time with a routine anomaly. How parochial in the context of a globalized world!
In each case I tried to resolve the issues using online access to a help line and by calling by phone at the numbers on the APPLE Website. In each of four separate occasions I diligently went through the routine and  ended up with a message that thanked me for contacting Apple followed by a polite ‘Good Bye’!
In desperation I went to an Apple Store for the second time in a day as it is close to where I live when I am not working. On both occasions I was courteously attended to by Apple Staff.
However, my work is usually far away from the US and it is generally many thousands of miles to the nearest Apple Store therefore online help is viewed as imperative if one is to resolve issues away from home.
Why can Apple not provide a clearly marked EMAIL address and Telephone number at a Help Desk with real people to respond to requests for help? It would cost nothing in relative terms and might restore my high level of anti-APPLE sentiment that these two recent events have provoked.

Why can Apple not provide a clearly marked EMAIL address and Telephone number at a Help Desk with real people to respond to requests for help?
If that is your question, the answer is at the bottom right of this web page. It is clearly marked "Contact Us" and is the best way, really the only way, to contact Apple.
If there were a publicly posted email address for concerns such as yours, it would be quickly filled with spam in about three minutes, thereby becoming instantly useless to you and everyone else. Apple would need to change it hourly, if not more often. That is also the reason you ought not to post your name, location, and what appears to be your iPad's serial number on this publicly viewable website.
Apple does not respond here and I can find no other questions for your fellow Apple users to answer.

  • Trying to call in for repair service

I am frustrated at the amount of time one has to be on hold to call in a repair order, and the fact that registering as a senior with no other form of communication (cell phone, internet) doesn't show up when scheduling repair service online.  My 88-year-old father's landline phone was out of order.  Last year I had filled out a form to expedite any repairs for him, as he lives alone and has no cell phone to use in case of an emergency. I had no cell coverage at his house, so I came home and called from my house.  After fifteen minutes on hold, the call was dropped.  I then scheduled a repair online, but there would have been a three-day wait.  So much for his elderly status!  I was then on the phone for another fifteen minutes before I was able to ask for a quicker response time.
Your system is designed for internet contact to report repairs.  What ever happened to being able to pick up the phone and dial (I know, an outmoded method) 611?

Don't worry you're not alone. Verizon's service in general = [a common explitive used to describe feces]. I just spent several hours being bounced around from useless employee to useless employee. No one can help. Apprently theonly people actually capable of assisiting you are availible only M-F 0900-1800 becuase after all, nothing ever goes wrong with a service based product on the weekends. Oh, I will be calling back Monday but only to cancel my service. Verizon = epic fail. Raise your rates, lower your standards. You will lose. I'll keep my frieindly service folks at SPRINT, thank you very much .As for as your overinflated underperforming internet? I'll stick with my local companies from here on out. Atleast they give a [for the Verzon censors] hoot [,okay?] about customer service.

  • Re: Online Backup Services for Mac?

pc users have online backup services such as carbonite to choose from. Is there an equivalent backup service for Macs?
My pc friend says he pays $50/year for his online service which makes more sense than having an external drive next to your computer. Good when your hard drive craps out, yes, but not so good if both get damaged due to fire, water, etc. or disappear due to theft.

There are a few, but I have only been experimenting with .Mac so far (which mostly for the other features). You can do a search for : online backup for mac : and several show up. I have heard good things from others about Mozy. Note the file transfer for any online service will be limited by your network bandwidth and availability.
    Others may have specific recommendations.
