Is there a Hold feature in Skype?

We can allocate up to 10 numbers using Skype according to their FAQ's. If I will allocate 10 numbers to my skype account, will I have 10 skype ID's and passwords? Also, is there a hold button? For example, if someone called in on the 1st number, can I put him/her on hold and answer the 2nd skype number?

You posted to the Notebook computer forum, which refers to Apple's pre-2007 consumer notebook computer.  I've asked this thread be moved to iBooks

  • Frame Hold feature doesn't work in PE8

In one of my video clips, I want to freeze a frame in the middle, and then have that frame frozen until the end of the clip. The Frame Hold feature is supposed to accomplish this. However, I can't get it to work in Windows 7. Here are the steps I've taken, which is right out of the PDF manual for PE8:
    (1)     I open up a clip in the Preview Monitor.
    (2)     I position the CTI where the frame is to be held, then I mark it with Marker 0 (zero).
    (3)     I exit the Preview Monitor.
    (4)     I select the video clip, go to Clip, Video Options, Frame Hold. I check "Hold on," and specify Marker 0 (zero).
But when I play the clip back, all of it is completely frozen -- before the zero marker and after the zero marker. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the program, but this didn't help. I have 4 gigs of memory, and a 500+ gig hard drive. My video drivers are current and up-to-date. Does anyone have any clues as to why I'm not able to get the Frame Hold feature to work?

This is an old thread, but I have a related question.
First, what exactly is "Frame Hold" in PrE12?  If I search the PDF Manual (AKA "Tutorial"), there are zero occurrences.
I gather from the above that it's supposed to allow the user to designate one or more frames at one or more points in the clip that will stop the action for a designated period of time.
I have been accomplishing the same effect with the Freeze Frame function, which inserts a BMP image in the clip.  (It also allows the bmp to be saved to a folder on the computer.)  I don't like this because the insertion chops up the audio and sound tracks, creating gaps that are hard to fix later.  (See one of my other posts for more details on this.)
So the Frame Hold option intrigues me with the hope that it would be less disruptive to the work flow.
The other point of interest comes from Bill Hunt's comment above:
"In PrE, there is a little "camera" icon, that produces a still image from the Video. Select the Frame (last Frame in this example), and output a still image. Cannot recall the exact choices in PrE 8, but I think that they are BMP, or TIFF."
The Freeze Frame in PrE12 only allows BMP; I would love to have a TIFF option, and I'm hoping that Frame Hold might allow it.  (I thought could export a still image as TIFF, but I find that JPEG is the only option, and in any case that is time-wasting if you have a lot of frames to capture.)
Yet another question: PrE has no little camera icon that I can find.  One has to go to Tools > Freeze Frame (or use a shortcut key, which I do).  Then the choice is either Export as BMP or Insert in video.  (If you want to do both, choose Export first, since Insert will close the dialog box and you will have to start over to do the Export.)  Has the camera icon (which had the obvious advantage of being simple, quick and intuitive) been replaced?
Bottom line: does Frame Hold (supposedly) accomplish the same as Insert Freeze Frame, without the disruption of other tracks?  If so (or even if not), how?  I have futzed around with it for quite some time and have no idea of how it is supposed to function.  I have tried setting inpoint, outpoint, marker zero, etc. and no matter what I do, the video keeps on rolling right through that point when I get there.
It's frustrating to have a feature that is not searchable in the "Manual" and doesn't lend itself to trial and error discovery.

  • Are there any ADA features for the visually impared built into SL?

    Hi,
I am just about to buy a mac Mini for my Mother-in-law who suffer from macular degeneration. I was hoping that there might be some features built into Snow Leopard that were designed to assist the visually impared?

It's difficult to generalise for any individual user, as almost every partially sighed person has different preferences.
As V.K. pointed out, there are several features built into the Universal Access pane of System Preferences.
However, you can begin with the Desktop & Screen Saver pane in System Preferences. You can choose from a wide variety of backgrounds to give the appropriate glare reduction and/or contrast enhancement that might be necessary. Try first the Desktop Pictures folder itself, and the Nature folder (Ladybug and Tranquil Surface can be restful for stressed eyes). Wave, in the Black & White collection, can also be helpful, as can Pinstripe in the Patterns folder. Finally, it's worth exploring the Solid Colours, as icons and such show up most clearly against these.
You can also change the background colours of Finder windows (unfortunately only in Icon view), by using the View—>Show View Options menu command (shortcut Command-J), selecting the "Color" radio button and clicking on the white square. This opens the Colour Picker which enables the user to fine-tune the background to suit his or her vision. It can be very helpful to set the backgrounds of different folders to strongly contrasting colours, as they can be easily identified and selected without zooming in to see what they are. For example, if the Applications window is set to blue, the Utilities to a light brown, the Home folder to red, and the Documents folder to yellow, they are very easy to distinguish on the Desktop.
You can change the size of icons and the text identifying them, also in the Finder's View Options pane, and the Highlight colour (in the Appearance pane of System Preferences).
Moving on, in the Universal Access pane, of course there is VoiceOver itself, which enables even totally blind people to operate the Mac more or less comprehensively. However, learning this may be somewhat daunting to a person who is losing her sight, particularly someone new to the Mac. As A Brody indicated, this also provides Braille output, though again there might be a learning curve if the lady does not already know Braille. VoiceOver can be set to use Grade 1 (uncontracted) Braille, which is much easier than the contracted (Grade 2) forms.
Also in Universal Access, as Dire Wolf pointed out, there are several zoom options. The simplest is to hold down the Ctrl key and scroll with mouse or trackpad. There are also fixed zoom positions that may be more suitable, as they can be reached with a single keystroke. The zoom range is up to 20 times magnification. The zoom can be configured to follow the keyboard focus (though this works best in Apple applications, and some third-party apps do not work in this way), or to keep the cursor in the middle of the screen, or to move the image when the pointer reaches an edge of the screen.
The colours of the screen can be inverted, giving white on black instead of black on white, as referred to by Steven. Other colours may give a somewhat strange appearance—but it is worth experimenting with desktop and window backgrounds to give the most satisfactory solution. Alternatively, the whole display can be switched to greyscale, and the contrast tweaked to give maximum readability.
Finally, the third-party application VisioVoice provides a wide range of specialist contrast-enhancement and readability tools, as well as the ability to speak text or convert it to sound files for use in iTunes or on MP3 players and iPods. I know one person who uses the Text Enlarger window to show white text on a dark blue background, as this suits her eye condition best. Others prefer yellow text against muddy brown…
    Hope this helps!

  • Hi there, i was wondering if there is a feature in Thunderbird that will allow automatic printing of an email after it has been sent? Thank you

    Hi guys,
I was hoping there might be a feature or add-on that will allow me to automatically print an email after I send it. For the purpose of creating a paper trail we have to print out at least the 1st page of all emails sent to our clients. Love using Thunderbird and would like to keep using it. I know there is a feature in Outlook. Hope you guys have one too :)

There is an add-on, [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/send-filter/ Send Filter], that allows filters to act on the Sent folder, and there is an add-on, [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/filtaquilla/ FiltaQuilla], that adds Print to the filter Actions. I can't confirm whether or not you can get them to work together to achieve your aim.

  • Is there a comment feature in Pages for iPad?

Hey all you iPad owners. Is there a comment feature in Pages for iPad? There is one in Pages '09 that I use all the time. Not having that feature in the iPad version of Pages could be a deal breaker for me buying an iPad. Thanks in advance for your help!

I think it not an unreasonable feature request for a word prcessor. I feel that in scaling pages down to the iPad Apple has also made the product a little less attractive for professional usage. For example pages for iPad really should preserve Endnotes created elsewhere, but it does not at present. A shame, but we can hope that in subsequent versions of pages for iPad that support or preservation of advanced word processing features is introduced.

  • Are there any amazing features for people with disabilities not available in Windows?

I do volunteer work at a group in Tokyo which provides English conversation and light computer lessons for people with various kinds of disabilities on Sundays at a community center.
They want me to come in on Sundays for a few months and teach people - such as their other teachers - how to use Apple computers. And they bought all the teachers, including me, new MacBook Airs or MacBook Pros.
The thing is, these people are basically all Windows users, and they seem, somehow, to use their Windows machines just fine with varying disabilities. In particular, some portion of the group are blind. There is a Mac enthusiast who has gotten it into his mind that he wants more of his fellow members using Macs, rather than Windows, so he is behind this new project.
I know there are "accessibility features" for the Mac, though I've not really made use of them myself except for some light testing so far to see that they work.
My question is "why Mac?" I am a Mac user myself, and I enjoy using a Mac. But I think it is probably a matter of what you are used to. If these people are happy using their Windows machines I don't know of anything I can say to make them want to switch. So I'm not sure how practical or productive the entire plan is, though I'm happy to try to help out, and I enjoy working with the group.
I can certainly teach these people, who are not familiar with Macs, how to use them. I've been using Macs for years and years.
But is there anything I can say about why Mac features for people with disabilities are better than Windows features? Any examples anybody can point me to?
Like I said, I'm happy to go over there on Sundays and help out and bring my new MacBook Pro over and hook it up to the projector and point out interesting things you can do on the Mac and answer questions.
But the big question that I can't answer is, "Are there benefits to using a Mac over Windows for people with disabilities?" If anybody knows of any, please let me know! I don't want the person promoting this project to feel it was a waste at all. I think basically he feels left out being basically the only Mac user there and wants to generate more of a circle of supportive people around him who are Mac users since he himself is losing his sight. So if there are factual, practical reasons for "Why Mac for people with disabilities" I would like to explain them.
    Thanks,
    Doug

    Hi Doug
It sounds like you are doing a good job with your technology students. I've been an Apple Mac user for well over 30 years and occasionally had to use Windows when using MS Access.  To my mind, the Mac is much easier to use from the "Starting Grid" than Windows.  And having worked in a University with both platforms, the cult is fairly evenly balanced.  However, the current generations of Apple Tablets are infinately easier to understand than OSX or Win7/8.    I think there is an old saying here which has many merits "If it ain't broke" don't try and fix it".   If your students are learning to understand Windows and are coping with it, the confusion of teaching them Mac, might actually give yourself a potential nightmare scenario.  Certainly Microsoft with Windows 8, is trying to bring the latest operating system into the 21st Century, and whilst it wouldn't suit me, why create a dilemma for yourself when they seem to be happy with what they've got.
In terms of your final paragraph, and reaching for the proverbial glass ball, I can see a future of tablets gaining even more popularity, and with the likes of Siri, which is in part available now on the iPhone.  Surely this is the path of the future where one can talk to the device and gain an immediate response.  Even Steve Wozniak hinted at this in a television interview on BBC's Click television programme.  I'm sorry there's no definitive answer to your question, but hats off to Gene Roddenberry whose imagination has given inspiration to the makers of our devices that has created a communications world and is infinately getting closer to the audience you are trying to reach out to.

This is something the app developer enables within airplay mirroring.
There is nothing you can do to enable that.

  • I lost my E 71 phone is there any security feature...

i lost my E 71 phone is there any security feature to get SMS when someone replaces SIM

I don't think there is. Even if there was, it'd be a bit late now as you've already lost the phone.
Some security practices to use for mobile phones:
    - Change the default lock/security code of the phone
    - Change the default PIN and PIN2 codes of the SIM card
    - Make sure the PIN code query is enabled when the phone is started
    - Make sure the setting that requires entering the lock/security code at SIM card change is enabled
    - Enable the autolock feature
    - Put a password on the memory card (so that the card cannot be used in another device)
    - Do not install software (applications/games) on your phone from questionable mobile or web sites
    - Do not install software on your phone, which is sent unsolicited (even if it comes from someone you know)
    - Make frequent backups (or otherwise copy/save any data you don't want to lose)

Hi everyone, I've used Adobe Muse for about 1 year so far, I love this design tool, but there was one expectation from my use prospective, I really hope there will a feature call "Container" widget in Panels of Widgets Lib other than those Widgets in Compositions or Slideshows, so that I could put all elements like shapes, buttons, text inside of it, once I setup the Container, I could set pin or scrolling effects on it, so I don't have to set features for each of all those single elements, which was too tedious. You know what I mean? or Come up a Symbol Creat idea like Edge Animate does, so I could package all minimum unit of elements, which will for sure increasing useability. I will definitely looking for this new feature added on in Muse in future. Thanks. my website http://www.ruiqiandesign.combuild with Adobe Muse.

  • How do I export my video in 500x500 resolution? I know there's a feature in Final Cut Express that allows me to make custom dimensions when I export but I can't find the same in FCPX

How do I export my video in 500x500 resolution? I know there's a feature in Final Cut Express that allows me to make custom dimensions when I export but I can't find the same in FCPX.

Tom is right, BUT! ...the newest version of Compressor (41.) allows you to do just THAT! ...to export custom sizes.
It's easy. And... once you set it up, you can export DIRECTLY from FCPX, provided you've saved / added this scheme as a "destination" in the FCPX app.

  • Is there a "restore" feature, like windows has? I installed "CleanGenius" and it has totally screwed up my computer! I just want to go back home!! Thanks

I recently downloaded a trial version of CleanGenius from MacPromo..looked promising, but after I ran it, most of my oft visited sites are totally garbled or missing. Facebook, eBay, a local newpaper, etc all screwed up..unreadable. Is there a "restore" feature (like Windows system restore) that I can use so that all this will just seem like a bad dream? Hope so..thanks for your time. Dave

I then saw the above response from WZZZ whose advise to visit a web site that was so general as to be unhelpful.
First, you were posting in an older thread titled "Is there a restore feature....?"  Next, you had no idea what files your crapware program removed. The idea was to return your computer to the state it was in before you did the so called "cleaning." If you had bothered to look around that extremely detailed site, which you in ignorance describe as "being so general as to be unhelpful," you would easily have found 14. How do I restore my entire system?
    http://pondini.org/TM/14.html
And simply moving that program to the Trash wouldn't have restored the files it removed. And, it is also possible that parts of that program are still on your computer because it may have installed important or unimportant files elsewhere than in /Applications.
And Debbie and friends at Apple know nothing about Time Machine. It will restore your computer to the state it was in, minus any subsequently installed applications.
Besides, removing your crapware program wasn't your question. It was how do I restore my system to where it was before I allowed that program to run.
The notifications issue had nothing to do with your original question. It happened because of the way you initially set up your account here.
    So, thanks for your gratitude.
