Is there a How-to guide on Unicode conversion?
I searched SDN and SMP but did not see an all-in-one how to guide for unicode
conversion.
Could you help provide one? Thanks!
All the info you need is on SMP.... look at http://service.sap.com/unicode

How to go for Unicode conversion?
Hi All,
Presently i'm upgrading my SAP 4.7 system (6.2 WAS) in to ERP 2004 (6.40 WAS), which is an non-unicode upgrade.
Now should i first complete Unicode conversion or apply the latest SP stack.
Also please tell me how this Support pack will affect me in Unicode conversion?
Order of this steps will be really helpful for smooth flow of work
Thanks in AdvanceIf you have already completed your upgrade, the best practice would be to install the SP stack first in order to have the latest updates available for the unicode migration tools. Then proceed with the unicode migration. There are slight differences in the process between support packages where you may have to create a migration program manually in an older support package and the very same migration program is included in the later support package. SAP publishes separate unicode migration guides, based on the support package level, due to these updates.

How-to Guide for Certifications in ME?
Is there a how-to guide or other document that covers how certifications work in ME?
My specific question is about the role of User Groups with respect to certifications. The online help for Certification Maintenance says:
•Control which users can perform specific operations on the Assignment tab page.
That's all that I can find, and it is not specific enough to be useful.
Thanks,
BarryHi Barry,
Please, check SAP Note 1618564 - 'Not certified user can utilize a certified operation'. Let me cite a bit from it:
"The User Groups, which are specified on Enforcement tab in Certification Maintenance, appear as the default assigned User Groups in the User Certification Requirement Details window in Item Maintenance, Operation Maintenance, Resource Maintenance, and Customer Order Maintenance. Which means that the certification check will be performed against those User Groups only. Leaving User Groups field blank enforces all User Groups to the certification."

Nametab issue during unicode conversion
There are some tables inconsistent durning Unicode conversion, is it possible to delete them?
Moderator message: not directly related to ABAP development, please have a look in the Netweaver forums, alway search for information before asking.
Edited by: Thomas Zloch on Dec 23, 2010 1:32 PMHi,
Reposting the question again, as earlier one was incomplete.
We are doing Unicode Conversion activity in one of our system. After running through UCCHECK transaction, we got around 80 programs in which most of them were resolved manually. When we are trying to edit one object, the error"Namespace /OSJ8C/' does not exists is displayd. Any help to resolve this issue will be highly appreciated . -
Inconsistency during Unicode conversion
There are some tables inconsistent durning Unicode conversion, is it possible to delete them?
Hi, there are two ways to solve the problem, one is delete this table, one is make the table conssitent. These tables could be deleted if it is useless on the system.

Simple how-to guide to adding windows 7 64-bit to mavericks as a virtual machine (Virtual Box)
Why use a Virtual Machine: Sometimes you need to run a windows only program. A VM lets you do that without rebooting your machine.
How is it different from Mac Boot Camp: Boot camp allows you to run windows but you must reboot your machine. It is faster and smoother than a VM (and with fullscreen details below), but you have to reboot for each use.
Is it possible to have a VM and Boot Camp: Yes, and I do this because sometimes I want to use a VM quickly without shutting down, sometimes I want the advantages of Boot Camp
How do I get Windows in Boot Camp: how-to here:

Required technical skill: minimal
Required time: approx 30 minutes
Required items: Mac
Get a version of Windows 7 64-bit:

Windows 7 Downloads are still available.
Download the appropriate Windows 7 .ISO file which includes Service Pack 1
(Note: must match what your product key version is for)
Windows 7 Home Premium 32Bit: http://msft.digitalrivercontent.net/win/X17-58996.iso Windows 7 Home Premium 64Bit: http://msft.digitalrivercontent.net/win/X17-58997.iso

Locate your image (iso) file, example: /Users/Christoper/Downloads/X17-58997.iso.download/X17-58997.iso
Download Virtual Box Virtual Machine Player:
https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads
Install Win 7 OS:
Open Virtual Box
Choose “New” (Note: Once you click new it will require you to complete the process of creation, no option for quit. If you make a mistake or are not ready, just finish it and then remove it and delete all files)
Name: “Windows 7 Virtual” or as you choose
Type: Microsoft Windows
Version: Windows 7 64-bit
Memory: I suggest 1GB if you have 4GB available, 512 MB may run slowly. 2GB+ of 4GB may slowdown your MAC OS running while the VM is running.
“Create a Virtual Drive Now” option
File Size: 25 GB should be the minimum selected, I used 25GB because I expect to use the drive to store very little.
HD type: VirtualBox Disk Image
Storage: Dynamically Allocated
Locate your new VM and click Start (again you will not be able to quit once you start, if you make a mistake continue until the red quit icon appears then remove the VM)
It will ask you to select the files for the OS. Select the ISO file, for example: /Users/Christoper/Downloads/X17-58997.iso.download/X17-58997.iso
Proceed to setup Win with your preferences
Type product key from your OS purchase or an existing one that you are moving from another machine
Note: Screen resolution may be very limited on the virtual machine. I use resolution 800 X 600 so that all of the desktop is visible.
I suggest using a windows gadget to view the CPU and Memory usage > On desktop mac-right-click i.e. separate fingers and click both > Gadgets > CPU Meter
Enjoy having Windows on your Mac!I have found a solution to the screen being smaller in the windows 7 virtual machine. First right-click in the desktop region and select screen resolution. It is probably set to 800 X 600 by default which is much less than the screensize you are using. To determine your native screensize, go to your mac and finder > applications > utilities > hardware > graphics displays. Mine is 1440 X 900 for macbook air. Then go back into the virtual machine and sceen resolution settings. Choose a screen resolution which is slightly less in all dimensions so that there is no clipping and you do not have to scroll when viewing. For me this was 1152 X 864. Then exit saving changes and with the VM in view press command - F (or at the menu bar View > Switch to full screen), which puts you in full screen mode. Now you should have a screen with minimal gray empty space filling the majority of your screen

Burn this image file (.iso) to a USB drive or DVD-R:
USB drive:
Get a blank USB drive with 8 GB+ capacity
Format this drive to Fat32 (Windows and Mac shared format), this will erase the drive!:
Finder > Applications > Utitilies > Disk Utility > Partition > 1 > Fat32
Extract the image file to the drive exposing its files:
Finder > Applications > Utilites > Boot Camp Assistant
Click both "Create a Win 7 or later version install disk" and "Download the latest windows support software from Apple" and advance
Locate your image (iso) file, example: /Users/Christoper/Downloads/X17-58997.iso.download/X17-58997.iso
Destination disk is your USB flash drive that was formatted to fat32, if it does not appear it may be in the wrong format
Click continue, this process takes a long time (30 mins - 1.5 hour estimated), it may appear that it is freezing because progress bar stops at times, do not stop it, let it keep running. If you are unsure it is still going, open finder > click the drive > get info, and look at the size of the files. Then close finder wait a few seconds, get info again and see that file size is slightly larger. The final file size was 4+ GB for me
or DVD-R:
I have not used a DVD-R but this is how I expect it to work:
Insert black DVD-R
Finder > Applications > Utitilies > Disk Utility > Burn
Locate your image (iso) file, example: /Users/Christoper/Downloads/X17-58997.iso.download/X17-58997.iso
Partition HD for WIndows 7:
Finder > Applications > Utilites > Boot Camp Assistant
Choose the 3rd option Install Windows 7
It will ask you to select a size of your Harddrive space for Windows OS, this will eat up some of the free space on your Mac HD. How much space is enough for a Windows OS? Depends on how many programs you plan to install on it. If you are just using for surfing web and running MS Office, probably 30-40 GB is enough, and this is what I did. Remember this space will be used up from your existing HD and not usable when you are in Mac OS. This process takes about 10 mins I think
Install Win 7 OS:
With USB drive in port or DVD in drive, restart laptop.
It will bring up the Win 7 installer on boot up
Select the OS type that you have a registered key for
It will ask you to find a HD to use for Win 7 OS:
Select the HD you just created, if you try to continue it will complain that HD is wrong format (because MAC formatted it to a MAC compatible HD, we will fix this)
Select the HD, there is a button to the right for "advanced" I believe is the text of it. It will allow you to reformat the drive, choose NTFS which it requires. Then proceed
Proceed to setup Win with your preferences
Type product key from your OS purchase or an existing one that you are moving from another machine
Select Default Boot Drive:
By default it selects Windows as your default OS to boot at power up, most people want Mac OSX to be the default, so this can be changed:
Finder > System Preferences > Startup Disk > select Mac
Enjoy having Windows on your Mac!Why use Boot Camp: Sometimes you need to run a windows only program. Boot Camp lets you do that with the speed and smoothness of a full windows OS.
How is it different from Mac Virtual Machine: A VM allows you to run another OS simultaneously while you are running OSX, while in a window similar to any other application. A VM is not as fast, smooth, and may have limited screensize/view.
Is it possible to have a VM and Boot Camp: Yes, and I do this because sometimes I want to use a VM quickly without shutting down, sometimes I want the advantages of Boot Camp

Ashok.Hi Ashok,
It might be too late for your specific task but maybe the following information could help others: Meanwhile, there is an official How-to Guide that describes how to integrate BCV in your own Web Dynpro application. It can be found here:

I spent several painful hours learning the following about how the SDK handles unicode characters -- perhaps I've missed where this is documented? Here's what I learned:
- Lua strings are sequences of 8-bit characters (bytes).
- A unicode ZString is represented as a Lua string containing the UTF-8 encoding of the unicode ZString. For example, the trademark character (TM) is unicode codepoint 2122 (hex), and the ZString LOC "$$$/unicode/tm=^U+2122" is represented as a Lua string of length three, the UTF-8 encoding of that character (decimal bytes 226 132 162).
- A posting from Adobe employee "escouten" last year said that all SDK APIs treat all Lua strings as UTF-8 encoding of unicode strings. I've personally observed that with LrView, LrFileUtils, and LrTasks.execute, but haven't checked other APIs. In particular, a Windows unicode filename will be returned by LrFilteUtils as a Lua string encoding the the filename in UTF-8. Passing that filename in a command line to LrTasks.execute works correctly. (But writing a Windows batch file with a UTF-8 filename won't in general work -- a topic for another day.)Hi John,
I'm struggling a little with this UTF-8 topic currently. I can sympathize with your several painful hours now. :-)
1) Can you (or somebody else) reproduce the following issue: (Win 8.1. LR 5.6)
If your photos are stored in a UTF-8 encoded directory such as c:\users\username\Pictøäöüש (the last letter being the Hebrew letter shin). (This is kind of my test case after users from Norway and Israel reported problems.)
local picName = selectedPhoto:getRawMetadata ("path")
outputToLog (picName)
I get the wrong result:
C:\Users\username\Pictøäöüש\7L6B7931.CR2
If I use, on the other hand, getFormattedMetadata:
outputToLog (selectedPhoto:getFormattedMetadata ("folderName") .. " and " .. selectedPhoto:getFormattedMetadata ("fileName"))
I get a correct result (but not the full pathname)
Pictøäöüש and 7L6B7931.CR2
Going from there, I could probably figure out the full path name (which does not seem to be offered in getFormattedMetadata), but I would like to figure out what's wrong with selectedPhoto:getRawMetadata ("path").
2) The following is more for reference: I cannot seem to pass previews.db path name to sqlite if the path of the previews.db (LR catalog path) contains non-ASCII utf-8 characters. (Other UTF8 commands on the command line work well.) chcp 65001 doesn't help. sqlite is supposed to accept UTF8 characters in the db name, but somehow doesn't (at least my version, which is somewhat older). I have worked around this issue by first cd-ing to the directory and then starting sqlite i.e. along the lines of "cd <previews-dir> && sqlite3 previews.db" This seems to work so far, even if some new issues have come up of which I don't know yet whether they are related to this or not. -
How to translate native Unicode to ascii Unicode
I want to read in the user input and then store this input as ascii unicode into the database. Can anyone tell me how?!
Wow that looks like one big hack after another. :)
well.. you see..... I designed my database system with
the user interface being the web browser. Because the
Chinese words are 2-byte fonts, hence, there will be
characters like ' and \ which are actually the
keywards of SQL! so I solve that problem by encode the
user input string (via POST) to big5 and then pass to
my database. However!!!! There's a magic word of
unicode \u92b4 not been displayed properly!! It just
basically showed up as question mark.... Hence I
thought about the native2ascii utility which convert
native Chinese words into \u notation. Through this
forum, I actually managed to find the answer, but yet
another question arise again -- I discovered that it
does not even show up properly after the \u notation
process!! Within Java, all characters are 2 bytes (UTF-16), so there's nothing special about Chinese characters. The characters ' and \ are not subcomponents of Chinese characters or any other character. You just have to be careful when you load them into Java, that you specify the correct encoding.
I think the problem is due to the inproper big5
encoding... this is usually how it's supposed to be
done:
String big5Str = new
String(myInputString.getBytes("8859_1"),"Big5");No this is not how it is supposed to be done. I see this idiom very frequently in this forum, and it is wrong. If you don't believe me, read the javadoc for the String constructor, and the javadoc for String.getBytes(). They say: "The behavior of this (constructor | method) when the given bytes are not valid in the given charset is unspecified."
You seem to think that myInputString contains data in a specific encoding. It does not, it just contains a string of characters. If it was constructed with mismatched data/encoding, then that's where your problem lies.
