Is there a limit to how many clips in a batch

Question

Hi all
I am trying to transcode the rushes from a feature we are shooting and i have set up numberous batches which all apprear fine until i submit them.
The time remaining starts at 00.00 then after five seconds returns to unknown time remaining and does not move.
As i am doing this as the rushes come back from set - Red 2k High res proxy file are what i am running through it - i have up to 50 - 60 clips in each batch.
Any clues as to why this is not working for me?
I have tried it with just a few clips and the same thing happens so cant imagine it is the volume?

I find it a little disturbing that Acrobat would be sensitive to that; surely JavaScript events don't go into the undo stack? But it's a good idea, and I'm trying it. I have it saving the file when it's first created, and after each section (~12 sections each with ~12 pages).
My smaller files still work, but the error message is now different for the larger files:
GeneralError: Operation failed.
Root.(null):468:Menu Philips:Exec
script terminated
This is the line in question:
numButtonsCreated++;
This is a var I set up when I was limiting the number of buttons to 800. It does nothing but count! Disabling it, I get the original C++ error and Acrobat crashes. It takes out 2 *GB* of virtual memory along the way, too, bringing my whole computer nearly to its knees.
Perhaps I can work around this by saving and closing the app, then reopening it and resuming adding buttons in stages, periodically closing it again, but to do so I'll need to cache all the info about what buttons to add, where, what they should point to, which are done, which are not done, etc. Quite a project, especially since JavaScript is not meant for HDD access!
