Is there a list of web-safe fonts that Captivate 8 will accept or an option to include other web-safe fonts?

The problem I've encountered is that text generated by a variable will only display as a web safe font and not always the same one across machines. Also different developers are seeing different font options. For instance on my machine,  Helvetica LT 75 Bold is listed, but no other Helvetica options. Another developer has Helvetica LT 77 Bold Condensed instead.
My questions are:
Is there a list of web-safe fonts that CP8 will use?
Can this list be expanded somehow?
Thank you,
Kelly

Web safe fonts really doesn't have the same meaning as something like web safe colors. While you will generally be OK with selecting a web safe font, it's only web safe in the concept of a font then defaulting to a font on the end users computer that they actually have installed. The default types are serif, sans-serif, and monotype, but then you have more distinct variations which you can see here, CSS Web Safe Fonts.
You'll need to keep in mind that not every person has Arial or Times New Roman installed. Because of this you may have someone that has Helvetica or Times. Both fall under their same respective font families, but will look a little different depending on what the user has installed.

  • Is there a list somewhere of Nokia phones that the...

Why I am asking this question is my Nokia 6600 fold went faulty (see note below about this) and has been replaced by O2 with a Nokia 6700 slide. Now I don't like slide phones so I bought a 7020 fold on eBay.
What I am looking for is an adapter for these phones (each have 2.5 mm AV connector) that will allow me to connect my noise cancelling headphone's 3.5 mm jack to (I was able to do this on the adapter that came with my 6600 fold phone).
I googled and found that one option may be the Nokia AD-44 but I am not sure it will work with either the Nokia 6700 slide or 7020 fold.
So my question, is there a list somewhere of Nokia phones that the AD-44 adapter will work with?
Note: the faulty Nokia 6600 fold phone was a replacement for the original Nokia 6600 fold phone and both have had the well documented 'm, n, o' problem when sending a message that locked the phone and all that could be done was to power off!

    Hi there,
I managed to find an old list of compatibility with HS-44 / AD-44 but nothing for the adaptor on it's own.
    Nokia 3600 Slide
    Nokia 3710 Fold
    Nokia 3720 Classic
    Nokia 5610 XpressMusic
    Nokia 5700 XpressMusic
    Nokia 6110 Navigator
    Nokia 6120 Classic
    Nokia 6210 Navigator
    Nokia 6212
    Nokia 6220 Classic
    Nokia 6290
    Nokia 6700 Slide
    Nokia 6730 Classic
    Nokia 7610 Supernova
    Nokia E66
    Nokia E71
    Nokia E90
I can't promise this is ALL th ehandsets though, since the list is quite old. Also I am almost certain that this adaptor converts Nokia 2.5mm to Nokia 3.5mm, Nokia connectors are different to a standard headphone as there is an additional connection for voice.
If using non -Nokia headphones you may need a further adaptor.
    Hope this helps a little?

I am trying to find an old mac font.  It's the techno (apple) font that was available with OS 9.  How can I get this font?

I think that was Tecno. Techno appears to be a whole class of fonts.
    Is this the one? http://www.dafont.com/tecno.font
That's a .ttf version which should work OK with current OS.
As an aside, I was searching for Apple Textile for quite some time when it was pointed out to me that it was used by iDVD. Sure enough, opened up the installer package for iDVD with Pacifist and there it was. Now working fine on all my Macs!

  • Is there a chance that Captivate will be bundled into the Creative Cloud Suite?

Is there a chance that Captivate will be bundled into the Creative Cloud Suite?

When I'm asking about this in some webinars, I get mostly two answers: that is another business unit (Captivate and Presenter), or those applications are not considered for 'creative' people. The last reason always makes me laughing but is typical of the way 'big' Adobe is looking down on 'small' Adobe.
Rod, Framemaker and RoboHelp are not in the Creative Cloud neither. Both have a bit limited, but very specialized user base. And really, Framemaker has features that InDesign (which is much more promoted by Adobe) has not yet. It does publish directly to different ebook formats, which is still a very cumbersome work flow in InDesign who is the 'flagship', and where defenders mostly tell that FM is EOL. RH has even more formats available as output. Maybe Captiv8r, respected RH expert, can offer more info. Technical Communication Suite is the only suite that remains for the moment, version 5 was released two weeks ago.
Another possible reason, which doesn't apply to Captivate: Presenter, RoboHelp, Framemaker are not available for Mac (Presenter Express is only a small part of Presenter).
It is also my opinion, that at least Captivate belongs in the CC and that it 'could' extend the user base, but I'm a very bad marketing person, other people do know better.

  • How to include other web page in servlet response?

Is there any way how to include the contents from some other web page in my own response? For example, I wish to printout some text and below that to put the complete contents of let's say Google's page, so something like:
    include("www.google.com");
...So far I found that I can either redirect to that page and l fully lose the control or include the contents of the other jsp or servlet that I made in the same project. I know I can just send the request to that outside page and read the response and print it out on my page, but the problem is when there is a JavaScript and I can't get the rendered contents but just that script. Also, I will not be able to see the images in that case, so I prefer to give the command to web browser to render and show it for me.
Thanks a lot for any help!

I already tried with streams but then just original source is written, so it means that if it is calling some scripts I will get JavaScript code instead of executed result. I thought I must somehow make the browser to process the page and just display the output because it knows how to deal with scripts.

  • Hortizontal black and white lines across web browser screen that appears and disappears but blocks usually 3/4 of web page, did not have with last version heard it might be my graphics card?

Since downloading Firefox 4, I will periodically get black and white horizontal lines that cover about 2/3 of the browser screen. There doesn't seem to be any trend to the website or areas it happens at, and will sometimes happen multiple times while scrolling through a large news article. The lines stay fixed to a certain area. The only way to get them to go away is to refresh the screen or if the page is big enough scroll to an area not affected and then scroll back. I've heard from someone that it might be my graphics card. My computer's a hand-me-down but not terribly old so it could be that the card is just old or bad, any other ideas?

If disabling hardware acceleration works then check if there is an update available for your graphics display driver.

    Hi,
I was looking through a few of the posts on here and noticed posts about event logs on the BT HomeHub.
I was wondering if there is a list of specific 'Event Log' enteries that I should be aware of that could be malicious activity?
If there is specific enteries that could be malicious activity is there a way of using Microsoft 'Event Viewer' of 'System Monitor' to send me a message when this malicious activity is taking place?
Also I noticed on my laptop that when I was looking in WiFi Status that there was a massive difference in the bytes sent and recieved. I think it was something like 600,000 sent and 6000,000 recieved. I looked in the BT HomeHub Event Log and there was a load of enteries for the following:
11:41:42,12 Feb. PortMapping Delete By UPNP/TR064 Success.
11:41:02,12 Feb. PortMapping Add By UPNP/TR064 Success.
The only thing I've done recently is install WAMP for a local test server to view website being designed in PHP. I wanted to view the websites on my other devices so I allowed WAMP through my microsoft firewall. I have dissalowed WAMP through the firewall now and the PortMapping messsages in BT HomeHub Event Log have seemed to have stopped.

Disable uPnP, restart the hub, and the entries should stop. Then see if any programs you have installed, stop working properly.
If everything works as normal, then leave uPnP disabled.

"Is there anyway of setting up Microsoft ‘Event Viewer’ or ‘System Monitor’ to flag up this malicious activity and send me a message to make me aware of these?"
No, but I would not worry about them, as the home hub firewall is there to preven intrusions.

  • How to set the font that SuperNova will show the text correctly

I have a problem with the use of Firefox with Supernova. Supernova is a program for visual handicaped people which allows you to enlarge the desktop. When you visit the page
    http://www.raadvanstate.nl/uitspraken/zoeken-in-uitspraken/tekst-uitspraak.html?id=73735&summary_only=
you will see some orange colored text in the main text block. This is shown correctly. However when I enlarge the screen with Supernova this orange text is barely readable due to the fact that the letters seems to built of dots instead of a smooth line.
Note that that even happens with this page where I enter these details of the questions. When Supernove enlarges rhe screen, the texts outside the textbox are horrible while the text in this textbox is good.
I ask this question here because when I use Internet Explorer this problem does not occur.
I've tried to make a screenprint, but the screenprint functionality doesn't "see" that the screen is enlarged. So when I zoom to 100% with Supernova, the text in the screenshot seems to be okay.
I realise that this is a difficult issue to reproduce but any help is welcome. Note that enlarging the font with the Firefox options is not a real option for me. Supernova enlarges the complete screen, not only the text on the webpage. This way I'm also able to see the menu's / bookmarks of Firefox itself.
    Thank, you very much,
    Hans

Thank, you very much. The hardware acceleration caused the problem.

  • Is there any chance in the near future that BootCamp will support EFI booting of Windows?

I realise it may take a firmware update to achieve this but it really goes against the grain to add a hybrid mbr to a GPT system just to boot Windows in bios compatibility mode - especially when Windows 64 bit can boot natively in EFI mode now.
It's a dangerous setup and automatically limits the number of partitions available to the user, without jiggery pokery.
Things would be so much simpler for users.
I have requested the same through Apple feedback. More than once and will continue to ask.

I've read a lot of posts from people that got this to work without a problem..
I've been trying to get Windows 7 installed in EFI mode for several days now, I keep getting a (not common so it seems) problem where the Boot Manager (hold Option during boot) hangs with graphical problems.
I'm burning a Windows 7 64bit DVD right now that should be the best I can do to get it to go into Windows Installation mode. I'll let you know how that works out

  • Status List Web Part corrupting other Web Parts!!

    Hello,
I am using the Project Site Template and have observed a very strange behavior when I add a Status List (with status indicators) to the overall "Home" page: It seems to be corrupting other web parts located on the same page. I.e. the
timeline is suddenly displayed twice and the newsfeed has no entries anymore.
Has anyone got experience with this?? I couldn't find anything similar here!
    Kind regards..

    Hi,
According to your description, my understanding is that the status list web parts in your page only load completely for the first one.
I made a test in my SharePoint 2013 environment, and the status list web part can all load properly in the page.
Did your environment install the latest CU updates ?
I suggest you can install the latest CU updates and test if it works.

  • Fonts that work in AppleWorks but not in Pages?  Possible to convert them?

I don't know enough about fonts to know why this would be the case; I have some fonts which are presently working in AppleWorks, but which are not listed in Font Book and do not show up in Pages.
Is there some way to convert the fonts so they will work? Some examples are all the free dingbat fonts at http://www.subgenius.com/SUBFONTS/subfont.html

I tried the Windows version, but that didn't work.
But, thanks! Font XChange was able to convert them, and they work in Pages now, although due to that being commercial software, the demo version altered them somehow. However in this case at least, since they're dingbats, that doesn't manifestly show.
For the small amount of font converting I might do, and the limited use I'd probably have for those fonts, I'm not sure about paying $100 for software that does that, even though it does appear to do its job really well. I wonder if there is cheaper, shareware, or freeware software that does the same?
What is it about these Fonts that necessitated the conversion?

  • Why provide fonts that can't be used??

Adobe provided a huge list of fonts in InDesign CS4, but several are not able to be embedded when used because of licensing restrictions.
Why did Adobe, in its infinite wisdom, provide fonts that can't be reproduced on the page?
Along that same thought, how do I avoid discovering at the printing phase that the font I selected cannot be embedded due to licensing restrictions?
I'm not trying to use fonts that are not licensed. I'm trying to use fonts that Adobe provided with my CS4 "premium" software.
Methinks that, like everything else these days, Adobe is just another crappy company that sells people expensive programs and fails to provide adequate support. Thanks Adobe...

    i Jeff,
I think that your lack of technical comprehension of what's going on "underneath the hood" is causing you to conflate technical problems with legal ones.
I don't recall this being an issue for me prior to CS4, but it has plagued me several times recently with fonts as ubiquitous as Arial Narrow.
Well, you're certainly free to embed Arial Narrow, so what you're being plagued by here is not so much unembeddable fonts as a lack of understanding of what's going on when a font is embedded. Forgive me if I talk down to you at all; I don't mean to, I just want to make sure that I cover all of the background without leaving anything out, or glossing over a critical technical issue. (Y'all regulars feel free to correct me if I'm getting any of this wrong.)
I suspect that the only answer in InDesign is to substitute an unrestricted font, details of which are explained earlier in this thread. But for those of you who've shared my pain and find this thread as I did, here's a solution I've discovered in editing with the full version of Acrobat 9: Using the "TouchUp Text Tool" (Tools > Advanced Editing > TouchUp Text Tool), select the uneditable text and change the font in the Properties dialog to one that passes muster with the licensing restrictions. Save. Lather, rinse, repeat. This will keep you from tearing your hair out with the thought that you must go back to change it all in the source document and create the PDF all over again (not a big deal with many docs, but a real pain with a complex form like the ones I've recently created).
When you make a PDF from InDesign with a perfectly legitimate font that permits embedding, it's possible to either a) store the entire font in the PDF, or b) store only the characters that are used from the font in the PDF. This second option is called "subsetting" - you're embedding a subset of the font, not the whole thing. "Subset fonts when percentage of characters used is less than XX%." You'll find this control in the "Advanced" section of the Export PDF dialog. So, if you use 80% of the characters in a font, and have subsetting set to 50%, then InDesign will embed the whole font.
So, assuming that you're trying to edit text in a PDF in a font which was not subsetted, then why in the world would it give you that error message? My assumption is that it would be because of the encoding of that font. Many fonts, when embedded in a PDF, have their encoding changed, for reasons that I really don't completely understand myself. You can imagine, I'm sure - thing about a font with thousands of glyphs, like a Chinese font, and then make a Chinese PDF. The font will be subsetted, because there's no point in storing all ~6000 glyphs of a Chinese font in a PDF that's only a page long with a filesize of 50k. So, the PDF libraries will re-encode a subsetted version of the font, but since it's re-encoded, the font no longer matches what I have installed and is therefore not editable in Acrobat anymore. Try opening up a PDF and going to its Properties (control-D) and looking at the Fonts tab. You can have Helvetica installed on your computer, but since the PDF engine can re-encode fonts on the fly, the Helvetica in the PDF (CID encoding, or something similar) doesn't match the Helvetica on my hard drive, so I can't edit that text in Acrobat at all.
I hope this helps you. For what it's worth, you should search Arial Narrow on these forums and apply the appropriate update, because I'm 99% certain that any Arial Narrow-related issues you are experiencing have nothing whatsoever to do with this particular conversation. It sounds like you're confusing fonts missing from your computer that are used in ID documents (like Arial Narrow) with fonts that can't be embedded due to mistakes in font production (like Thonburi).

  • A font that wont go away...

About a month ago when i first got my MBP i noticed that on a couple web pages it would load this font named "Brady Bunch", i thought nothing of if until other web pages had the same effect, but i just updated to leopard, and now my widgets are using the same font. I went into font book and deleted it off of my computer but then my weather channel widget that read 59 degrees, now reads 5 degrees. I reinstalled the font and nothing happened its still at 5 degrees i tried everything and searched couldn't find anything. I disabled the font in font book, made sure that safari and firefox both had times new roman as the default, i just don't know, i want to get a regular font, or at least any other one than that. Anyone know how? Thanks =]

Did you check your security software (firewall)?
A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox without informing you about that, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox.
See [[Server not found]] and [[Firewalls]] and http://kb.mozillazine.org/Firewalls
If you use a Firefox 4 beta release then you should create a new profile exclusively for the 4.0 beta version and create a desktop shortcut with -P "profile" appended to the target to launch that profile.
