Is there a Mac box set with Lion and iLife?  I have Leopard currently.

Would like to update both OS and iLife w/o having to step between with Snow Leopard. Is this possible on my iMac?  (core2duo, just want to know if you can buy it this way)
Thanks!

You save $10 by buying Snow leopard and then Lion rather than waiting till August and just getting the USB drive with Lion.
SL - $29 at Amazon
Lion- $29 on the App Store
Price for the USB drive with Lion is $69 (and not available till august)

I have a Mac late 06 with lion and want to know what is the best protection/security to get, Mc Fee, or Norton,or...

    None of the above.
    Norton in particular is anathema.
You have Apple's Xprotect system built-in. malware definitions are updated at each Security Update.
If you feel the need for belt & braces, ClamXAV is the (free) tool of choice.
Your best security is still the stuff between your ears. Don't click on pop-up links telling you need a new codec or (especially) Flash Player. Use your common sense and you'll stay ahead of the industry.

  • Any word yet if Apple will be making a Mac Box Set for Lion?

It seems like they would since they no longer stock the Mac Box Set for Snow Leopard. I need the box set in order to reset my iMac to factory settings and no longer have the original discs. I tried getting replacements through Apple and they said I would have to purchase all the software separatly. I wish Apple would come out with the Lion box set already. I'm trying to avoid purchasing the Snow Leopard, iLife and etc, etc and then a week later a Lion Box Set comes out. I wonder if Lion discs will come out once they reveal the iPhone 5? Thanks!

The short of it is that, until Apple officially announces something, we don't know.
Keep in mind, though- Apple is moving away from physical media, especially disc-based.  Lion is only available by download or USB drive.
We don't know if Apple will ever release a Lion "Box set" with iLife, or by what media/method.  We just don't know.

  • Recently bought a mac book pro with lion, and using time machine brought over all my info from my mac book with snow leopard. Iphoto is now showing blank squares. I already rebuilt the library. What next?

Info in the title. I've received conflicting advice help from the Apple Store so I thought I'd try here. I've restored iphoto from my lastest back-up on time machine from my old computer (iphoto works well on old computer), I've rebuilt the library, I've put the old library on a thumb drive and loaded it manually. It's all there on my old computer, but won't work in my new iphoto.

Try directly copying the Library from the old machine.
To move an iPhoto Library to a new machine:
Link the two Macs together: there are several ways to do this: Wireless Network,Firewire Target Disk Mode, Ethernet, or even just copy the Library to an external HD and then on to the new machine...
But however you do choose to link the two machines...
Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
    Then launch iPhoto. That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.

  • I have mac book pro with lion and constantly get a drop-down menu when clicking on a menu line

I am new to Apple software.  I have a MacBook Pro using Lion.  Question is I constantly get drop-down menus when I click on an item to initate an action,  even as simple as clicking on the red x to close a page.  Why??

Sounds like the right-click behavior is messed up.  Check the Mouse or Trackpad preferences and see what it has for right-click.
Also, it could be that your contol key is stuck down or the keyboard is sending that command for some reason.

  • I am currently ruDo I have to purchase the Mac box set to upgrade or can I just upgrade the OS?

I am currently running Mac OS X V. 10.4.11. I use my mac for one purpose and one software only. Do I have to purchase the Mac box set with iIife and everything to upgrade or can I upgrade to Snow Leopard?
Reading the spec on Snow leopard it says if I have OSX v.10.4 to purchase the mac box set. I dont use any of that bundled software. I just simply want to upgrade my OS.
I know I can buy just the OS but I want to make sure it is complatible before I do so.
    Thanks in advance

You can upgrade from10.4 to 10.6 with no problems. Any program that runs under 10.4 will run under10.6
You won't need the box set unless you want the latest iLife and iWork. If you only want iPhoto or other single apps you can get them from the App Store, which you get added to the OS and the dock when you’ve upgraded to at least 10.6.6. iPhoto, iMovie and Garage Band for $15 each and Pages, Keynote and Numbers for $20 each.

  • Mac Box Set: Leopard at 9$?

    Hi,
I'd like to buy iLife and iWork '09, and I see that there is Mac Box Set at 169$ (9$ more than iWork+iLife).
I already have Leopard. What can i do with the new copy of Leopard? Because is interesting to buy it at 9$, but is interesting if useful
    Bye

The box set will contain a Leopard install disk that installs version 10.5.6 directly. So your "extra" $9 buys you the convenience of not having to run software update to get back to 10.5.6 should you ever need to reinstall Leopard on your Mac. (Depending on the age of the Leopard installer disk you already own, it will install anything from 10.5 on up -- if a retail disk, it will be 10.5, 10.5.1, or 10.5.4; if a model specific disk, it could be almost any version; & if an upgrade or "drop-in" disk, you would have to install Tiger first.)

  • Purchased mac mini server with lion, can i download lion for my macbookpro ?

    Hi,
I bought a mac mini server with lion server. I have macbookpro with Snowleopard. Do i need to purchase Lion again to install in macbookpro ?
I registered my mac mini with my apple id .. still when i check app store in my macbook it is asking me to purchase again.
    Can someone clarify ?
    - thanks LP.

Yes. What came on your Mini cannot be installed on your other computers. You will have to purchase and download Lion for the MBP. If you wish to install Lion server on the MBP, then you will have to purchase and download Lion Server, too.

Headsets don't come with the iPad. All you get is the iPad, USB cable and wall charger.

  • I don't have a good good disc for the mac box set can i get it with it my serial no.

I don't have a good good disc for the mac box set can i get it with it my box number?

If this is a new box you just bought ad the disk is bad, Apple will replace it for you.  OTOH, if you have lost the disk or it has become damaged over time, that is your responsibility, and though I don't speak for Apple, I'd be very surprised if you had any option other than buying another copy.

  • I want to install hybrid drive in Macbook pro. I bought my Mac book with lion and am now running mountain lion. I was told I needed install disk to set up new drive before restoring from my time capsule. Is this correct and if so how do I get disk osx10?

I purchased a Mac book Pro in Aug 2012 with lion and have upgraded to mountain lion. I currently am looking to install the segate 750 gig hybrid drive. I watching video I shows me needing a OSX 10 disk to boot off of when the new disk is in and the use time capsule to restore system from back up drive to new hybrid. Hope I got this correct so far. that being said my Mac Book did not come with a disk therefore is one available, when I get to point of restoring from back up with it be the same mountain lion system I had. Sorr if this sounds redudant.. Thank you in advance

Connect the new hybrid drive to your MBP.  Start up your MBP holding the OPTION key, the two HDD icons will appear.  Select the 'restore' icon on the right.  When you get to the menu where you have 4 options, select Disk Utility.  Format the drive and then you can use the option of restoring it from Time Machine.
    Ciao.

  • Can't upgrade to snow leopard from tiger with mac box set

i have a macbook that runs 10.4.11. and this happened like last yr i think. i was going to upgrade it to snow leopard, and so i went to the store and bought the mac box set, the one costs $196. and here comes the trouble, no matter what i did, it couldn't be properly upgraded. like when it shows the window that says it is upgrading, it just tell you some errors occurred and then it couldn't proceed. so ever since i just continued using 10.4.11.
now i kind want to upgrade it again but im afraid that sth wrong is gonna happen again. so what should i do?? (b4 i upgraded, i erased everything in my mac, but still...)
the funny thing is, once i actually brought my macbook into the store and tried to upgrade in front f the technician, and it failed. later on they told me that i need to increase its memory from 1GB to 2GB, and i did so. but still........T.T

Hi, do you remember any of the exact wording of the errors?
Very Important, how much Free Space is on your Hard Drive first of all? Click on the Macintosh HD on the Desktop, then do a Get Info on it.
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
    Report any errors it has.
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)

  • Is there something very wrong with Lion and Fcp x or what?

I have just spent a very frustrating two weeks editing a one hour fifteen minute project on FCP X with Lion as the operating system. Every edit session has been plagued with crashes. My mac is a 21.2 inch, with an I7 processor and 12gig of ram which I bought the middle of this year. I had set my computer up with two partitions, one with Lion and the other with Snow leopard. This morning, in an effort to improve the terrible instability of FCP X under Lion I decided to try it under Snow Leopard......What an unbelievable difference.....I've been editing for the last three hours now throwing all kinds of clips and effects and so forth at the timeline and have not experienced one crash. What is going on here? How can Lion and FCP X be so incompatible?

You don't mention whether this one hour and fifteen minutes long project consisted of just one FCP X project when you experienced problems with FCP X and Lion?
You also don't mention how long the project was that you edited successfully with Snow Leopard. If, as I suspect, this was a very short 'test' project, that would make sense. FCP X does not cope well with long projects.
I use Lion exclusively but I keep my projects to a maximum of 30 minutes (preferably no more than 20 mins). If the total programme is longer, I make create several FCP X projects - each being a 'chapter' of the main programme. When finished, I make compound clips of all the 'chapters' then I paste them into a new (full length) project.
I'm not pretending FCP X is perfect, but for me at least, it's very workable as long as you understand it's weaknesses. I have 16 GB RAM and since I upgraded from the 8 GB I had previously, it's made a huge difference.
If you are getting crashes, there is some conflict on the OS. Create a new (admin) user account on your system and use FCP X from there - if it runs a lot better, there's a conflict and a clean install would be recommended.
    Other ways to improve performance:
    Create optimised media.
Hide Waveforms at all times when you don't need them (both in Browser and Storyline / Timeline). They take up a lot of processor power.
Create folders in the Project library and put any projects you are not working on currently, in there. (Twirl it closed to hide them).
Move your Projects and Events to an external HD (make sure it's formatted OS Extended - with journaled on or off) and run from there.
    Andy
