Is there a Mac / Flash guru out there?

Hi all,
I've searched and posted at Mozilla forums, I've searched and
posted at Mac forums, but this problem I have seems to be unique
and it just doesn't go away. Flash player isn't working on my
MacBook Pro with OS X 10.4.8. I really want to understand this
problem and fix it, rather than having to totally reinstall my
entire system and not ever know what happened. I really hope and
pray there's someone here who knows how to fix this, because I've
ran out of ideas, and I'm
not a n00b!
Please check these threads I started:

Mozilla >
http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?p=2658557#2658557
btw: it's
not a Firefox specific problem, it also happens in Safari
and others browsers I use; the standalone player is working just
fine, but the browsers are just not picking it up and even tell me
the Flash player is an unknown plugin!
Oh smart people of the world ... enlighten me!

This is the same problem I'm having. Flash worked fine on
websites until I downloaded the Flash 8 Trial, which I'm guessing
upgraded Flash Player to the latest version, which is not
compatible with MacBook. There is no way to get the Flash Player
version that came installed on the computer unless you find someone
with a MacBook and can drag and drop their files onto your
computer. I know that worked for a few people but I haven't tried
it yet.
I've also tried downloading some older versions of Flash
Player, and that doesn't work either.

Make sure both computers are turned on and awake.
Connect a male-to-male Mini DisplayPort or ThunderBolt cable to each computer.
Press Command-F2 on the keyboard of the iMac being used as a display to enable TDM.
Note: In Keyboard System Preferences, if the checkbox is enabled for "Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard functions keys," the key combination changes to Command-Fn-F2.

To leave TDM, press Command-F2 on the keyboard of the iMac that is in TDM. You can also exit TDM if you shutdown or sleep either computer or detach the cable.
Can I use a third-party keyboard or older Apple keyboard to enable TDM?
Some older Apple keyboards and keyboards not made by Apple may not allow Command-F2 to toggle display modes. You should use an aluminum wired or wireless Apple keyboard to toggle TDM on and

  • Flash Newbie, Need Help From Flash Masters Out There

Hi to all flash masters out there. Im new in flash
and I only learned it trough flash help. My problem is that if i
dont put a stop() on my first scene/layer1/frame1 my scene1 will
immediately switch to scene2 without pressing the button. And if i
put stop() to prevent scene1 from switching to scene2 without me
clicking a button, all of the tweening effects in scene1 will not
tween anymore.:( Please help, you can also email me at
    [email protected]

    Hi saxah_jean
I am not a flash master but i think the problem can be solved
. Try putting a stop on the last frame of your 1st scene, put a
button on that that frame and give an action to jump to the next
    scene, frame 1.

  • If I upgrade to Lion, will all my stuff on my Mac be wiped out?

If I upgrade to Lion, will all my stuff on my Mac be wiped out?

If all goes as it is supposed to, no. Your data should all stay exactly where it is. However, there's always a possibility that something could go wrong.
When you upgrade, you need to do the following:
    1) Check all your software for compatibility with the new system.
    2) Repair the hard drive with Disk Utility.
    3) Make a full backup of your whole system using Time Machine.
    4) Ideally, make a second full backup of your whole system using something else, like Carbon Copy Cloner. (I consider two backups to be the minimum.)
    5) Wait until you have time to deal with any possible problems that crop up.
    6) Install the upgrade.

  • How to to update a friend's 10.8 Mac, who lives out of Internet range?

To to update a friend's 10.8 Mac, who lives out of Internet range, I used to take her downloaded Software Update files on my USB drive. With 10.8.2 her machine now rejects my update files and insists it must have Internet access. How do I help her in future? There are many remote places in Australia where there is no Internet access, not even dialup.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
You should be able to update OS X without Internet. As she is running OS X 10.8, download OS X 10.8.2 Combo and OS X 10.8.2 Supplemental Update, copy them to a USB drive and install them in this order. You shouldn't be prompted to connect the computer to the Internet

  • "Flash Locked Out'

I'm upgrading to Leopard from 10.3.9 and need a faster processor than my current 800. Bought a MAXPower 7447A and went through the usual pre-installation procedures of checking the Boot ROM which was ok at 4.2.8 but when I attempted to install the firmware update (3.1b5) by unlocking the flash I keep getting "flash locked out". When I hold down the programmer button during startup, there isn't the usual startup sound - no sound at all.

No thanks to Apple and this forum, I finally solved the problem myself. After 2 weeks and not so much as a suggestion from 120 viewers I've reaffirmed what any Apple owner knows: their "support" and "customer service" *****, and this pathetic forum is a shining example. Good Luck to all. I hope you don't turn gray waiting for assistance...

  • Mac Mail sending out multiple e-mails

    Dear All,
My friend reports that today he is receiving 3 copies of every e-mail message that I send him.  I'm working on a Mac Pro, Lion 10.7.5, using Mac Mail through Yahoo, and I have only one account.  I have an iPod touch, but I have never sent e-mail through that device nor signed up for it on the iPod -- I only use my Mac desktop for sending and receiving e-mails.  Anyone else having this recent problem?  I never had it before today!  Thanks.

Are you sure it's the Mac sending out the spam, or just spam masquerading as coming from your email account (the From: line is ridiculously simple to forge)?
While it's clearly possible to devise a system to cause a Mac to send out spam email (or any other computer for that matter), it wouldn't be terribly efficient for the spammer.  Even when they take over zombie machines (and unpatched Windows XP systems are the favorites there) the spammer would prefer to use the machine to send out all kinds of email *AND* would attempt not to draw attention to the actual machine sending out the stuff.
That is, where it *appears* to be coming from will generally not be where it is coming from.
What malware prefers to do is "harvest" an address book from a user's computer (or, more often these days, from an online address book after phishing the credentials from the user) and then using that to send out emails to your contacts that look like they come from you so that they are more likely to be opened.  If that's what has happened, there's nothing you could do to the Mac at this point to get that data back.
Again, while it is clearly possible to harvest that data under either OSX or Windows 7 from your address book in either platform, it is considerably more difficult to do that than to go after your credentials for an online site using a phishing attack and then make use of the contact information.

  • Mac Mini drops out of "Shared" status in Finder of iMac - can't screen share-

I have a 27 inch mid 2010 iMac (with the WiFi problem fixed) 10.8.2
I also have a new 2012 Mac Mini. 10.8.2 + OSX Server (no monitor or keyboard/mouse)
(Both are connected via WiFi to a  FIOS - Verizon/ActionTec MI424WR-GEN3I router.)
Randomly, the Mac Mini dropps out of sight to the iMac -- i.e. it no longer shows up in the "Shared" section of the Finder and, consequently I can no longer "screen share" with it.
However, OSX server continupus to serve up web pages as expected -- I can ssh into the Mini from the iMac with no problem (i.e. IP connectivity is fine). My Epson WiFi printer and my son's XP based PC show up in the "Shared" section of the FInder. Only the Mac Mini is missing.
At that point, the only way I know of to get the Mac Mini visible again is to do a "sudo shutdown -r" and viola it reappears in the Finder on the iMac.
Is there some other way to get the Mini to show up in the Finder of the iMac?
Is there some kind of "wake-up" command  I can send from the iMac to the MIni via ssh?

Looks like half of the issue is answered... The WiFi in the mini DOES support WOL, as does the iMac.
However, the basic problem still remains --
The Mini is NOT sleeping, but actively running as a server 24x7 -- web and mail (I run my own domain) -- and I can log in to the mini via ssh -- but it is NOT visible as a shared device in the Finder on the iMac, and I cannot use screen sharing. Since the mini has neither keyboard nor monitor, I have to remotely reboot it via ssh - i.e. "shutdown -r" to get it to re-appear so I can screen share.
The timing is an isue. This "disappearence" seems to happen infrequently and irregularly, but has happened twice since I acququired the Mini on "Black Friday," not quite 30 days ago. If it were a simple "sleep" issue, I would have expected it to happen "hourly" or on some such frequency.
So, since WOL does not appear to be an issue in and of itself, I suspect I'll have to try to find out if "Shared Screen" is an "Advertised  Service" via BSP.
Your link to http://superuser.com/questions/306651/wake-macbook-on-wi-fi-without-airport-extr eme is providing a lot of pointers. Now to spend some serious "Google time."
Since I'm working with the Verizon/ActionTec MI424WR-GEN3I router (FIOS), which seems to handle all of the various protocols without issue, I may have to dig out my old Airport Extreme.
Now retired, I sold my old 4 story Victorian and moved into a one-floor one-bedroom, and don't need the multiple routers I used to run to inorder for WIFI to cover the house. Sigh.
And to think "I thought" I retired from the world of System Administration
I have a query in to ActionTec to see if they have a configuation Option I have not "deciphered" which will deal with the WOW issue.

It sounds to me like Final Cut Express is what you really need to learn. I learned it by buying a book that included a DVD of examples to use as you go through the book. It will only take a couple of hours to figure out how to do most of what you need to know. Its the last 20% that will take the longest to learn, mostly because its the stuff you'll use the least.
The book I used was written by Tom Wolsky. It was for version 2 of the program. I don't know if its been updated. Take a look in the Final Cut Express forum. Ask the forum for recommendations. You'll probably get a response from Tom Wolsky himself since he's a regular on that forum.
I've since upgraded to Final Cut Studio. I occasionally still use iMovieHD because its easier for some tasks but not very flexible. For example, the themes in iMovie are easy to use but it would be near impossible to recreate them in Final Cut Express. So I sometimes just populate the themes in iMovie and export them to Final Cut to add to a larger project.
There are a couple of potential stumbling blocks in learning Final Cut, one of them being media handles. Once you figure out those, you'll be on your way...

  • Running OS 10.8.2, Safari . Trying to watch video on CNN, It is blocked an window pops up Adobe flash player out of date. Is this real or an attack

Should you download adobe flash player after Adobe flash player out of date, Is this an Apple message or an Adobe message.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Safari users are seeing a message telling them to update Flash Player. That's because Apple has blocked Flash because of a security problem that was being used to hack PCs and Macs.
In your case, accept to download the Flash update and it will take you to the Flash Player download website. If you aren't sure, you can download Flash manually > http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer After installing the update, restart the Mac

  • Flash Log Outs with Snow Leopard

Getting a ton flash log -outs. MIddle of doing something and computer just logs out.
Never seen this before in 6 years on Macs. Thought it was spaces, but happens with it disables. Have no idea what it could be.

Had my first one of these today. Fortunately didn't lose anything despite having many open applications. I was using Word and Excel 2004 and playing music through iTunes Airtunes. Other apps open included: Pages, Mail, Safari, NetNewsWire, Omnifocus, Omnioutliner, Textedit, Preview, Nottingham, Quicktime 7.
The tipping point seemed to be opening iMovie 09 and trying to adjust the white balance in some HD footage. The preview would reflect the change for a moment then return to the original; I kep trying then iMovie hung. Then Excel declared that autosave had been disable due to some problem. Seconds later the screen went blue and I was returned to the log in screen.
Perhaps my experience will help someone find out the reason?

  • My flash is out of date

It appears to me that my flash is out of date. When I try to download the new one the "DOWNLOAD NOW" option goes off and a message comes up: Your antivirus software must allow you to install software.WHAT SHOULD I DO?

    Hi Joao,
What is the OS and version you are using?
Is the 'Download Now' button on an adobe.com webpage, or is it in pop-up dialog window?  If a web page, what is the entire URL of the page?  If a pop-up window, please post a screenshot of the window (see How to post a screenshot in the forum)  Also, what antivirus software do you have?
    Thank you.
