Is there a 'mail received/opened' option?
Someone has told me that it’s possible to receive a ‘This email has been opened’ message; they have used it on a PC, but I don’t know if it’s a Mac-thing as well.
i.e. A sends an email to B. When B opens it, A receives a message back to say the email has been opened.
Can this be done?

It can be done, but it's extremely unreliable because many e-mail clients don't support it, and those that do often have that feature turned off, as it's a major privacy problem. It has been used by spammers to verify e-mail addresses, for example.
That said, you can get Mac Mail to request a read receipt by following the directions [here|http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=4602912#4602912]. However, you cannot get Mail to respond to such a request from someone else.

Is there a way to open a zip file received via email on the iPad? I tried and a message popped up saying mail cannot open the attachment.

Trouble opening pdf's - I have received several pdf's from a friend via e-mail (Thunderbird). Some of them open just fine but others give me the message: "There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired." My friend made sure that the files in question opened without issue on his computer (a PC). Further, I was able to open one of these "damaged" files on my Android phone, but I cannot open them on the Macbook Air. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Triple-click the line of text below to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):

In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again. -
On my iPad2 the mail app opens and the page icons are there but no messages are shown. I know mail is being sent as I can access it in other ways plus the envelope icon on my homepage continues to show the number of messages received.
I have rebooted twice now but cannot think of anything else to do

My wife received a new iPad Mini for Christmas-- when connected to iMac, icon appears in iPhoto sidebar; however, there appears to be no option to "unmount." Also, unlike my iPhone 4S whose icon appears in iTunes sidebar, the Mini does not. Any insights?

When I open a received e-mail the first time, German umlauts (ä, ö, ü) are not shown correctly. Instead of them there are characters like §,$. When I close the e-mails and open them again the German umlauts are shown correctly. I don't know how to solve that problem. Who can help me?

External user needs to open CRES e-mails in bulk, options?
What would the options be for an external user to open CRES e-mails in bulk?
My first thought is they could install the Outlook plug-in, but they would not be able to reply securly without the plug-in being configured for Encryption.
Appreciate any thoughts,If you want to simplify the opening of multiple CRES messages then there are a couple of options:
1 - If they have Outlook then the Outlook plug-in is one solution. One issue here is although it is "free" you need a Cisco id with an associated service contract to be able to download the plug-in. Also as you have noted you need to be configured for encryption to reply within Outlook, but you can still use the secure reply option if you open the CRES envelope "normally" (in a browser).
2 - If you send them envelopes with medium security then the recipient can "remember" their password in a secure cookie so they entry their password once and then for subsequent envelopes they just click open button. No plug-in is required and any email client can be used. You can set medium security / sensitivity in the encryption profile or in an x-header.
3 - If you send them envelopes with low security (sometimes called "no-authentication") then no password is required and the envelope just opens by clicking the acknowledge button (which replaces the open button). The downside of this is that there is no authentication so the message is encrypted but anyone can open it. Depends on your security requirements as to whether this is acceptable.
In my opinion option 2 would be the best and certainly easiest to implement. -
i am currently running a trial version of indesign. i am trying to make a cd booklet. when i open a new document and try to find 'compact disc' in the document presets, it isn't there. all i have for options are 'default and custom'. is it possible to open the 'compact disc' preset from a trial version?

Users with Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro (Windows XP) are not able to open PDFs created on the server. They receive the error message:
“There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired.”
Even if the users save to disk and try to re-open, the error still occurs.
This error did not surface in our QA testing because we were testing with Adobe Acrobat Reader 8. What can the difference be? Is there additional information that I can look for in order to troubleshoot this?

ElsaSo, I'm not sure how much this will help but if you save the pdf AHW_Test_05112009xx.pdf and open it in a text editor, and go all the way down to the bottom where the %%EOF marker is, it looks as if the html page is getting appended to the end of the pdf. I recieved the "This file was damaged..." error in Adobe 7.1.0 when trying to open it but if you remove the html at the end, it opens up just fine.
It appears that whatever's appending the html to the end is causing the issue.
Below is what the file looks like near the end after the EOF:

How come I have to put in a keychain password every time safari or mail is opened? Is there a way I can disable it or save the password so it doesn't pop up every time? Also, I have my mail account set up from my Yahoo! account and every time I open mail, it asks for the password for my Yahoo! account. I have checked save this password to keychain and it persists on popping up repeatedly.
You don't want to disable keychain (if there's even a good way to do so), since it stores stuff like certificates and the such. It's quite useful.
Anyways, Keychains>Preferences>First Aid. Check Set Login Keychain as default. When you login, it unlocks the keychain.

I downloaded ibooks to my ipad so that I can save PDF files to ibooks but I do not get an "open in ibooks" message to select. When I choose the icon, I only get mail or print option.
Where are these PDFs coming from? What do you mean by "save PDF files to ibooks" and then "I do not get an 'open ibooks' message? If they are saved to ibooks (I assume you used itunes to save a dragged in PDF to the ibooks panel in apps) then you should be able to open and view them in ibooks. If they are not in ibooks (I'm assuming this is the case, since you want to get an "open in ibooks" option from the *share* icon, right?) then where are they on the mini, which app?
