Is there a market for a WireFusion Xlet player?

Hello,
We are considering creating a WireFusion Xlet player and are wondering if there is any market for such a player. With WireFusion, one can create fast and compact Web3D presentations that are fully Java 1.1/Personal Java compatible and we can probably have an Xlet player ready in a few weeks if the market is interresting.

Is There a Market for Spreadsheets?

I've built a Numbers spreadsheet that might be worth 99¢ to someone who trades securities. I've searched the Mac App store and didn't find any Numbers spreadsheets there, except collections of templates. Is there a market for useful spreadsheets? Is there an exchange where spreadsheets can be uploaded and downloaded for free?

Hi, i'm just about to finish college this year and have worked with lots of programming languages during my time in college but found java to be the most interesting... After a while i got into making games in java with the help of the java 3d api. I'm interested in going into this market when i finished colelge but i was just wondering...

Blackberry is popular in Iran despite sanctions-a great market for blackberry

Iran is considered the largest market for cellular phones in the middle east [guardian].
Blackberry z10 sales have started since February in the world. There is no official Blackberry store in Iran, but market demand has made importers bypass restrictions to bring Blackberry z10 products into the country 48 hours after the canada!!!
Because of recent sanctions by usa, the price of dollors became triple since last year and Iranians have to pay more money to buy a smart phone. salary of an engineer in iran become $250 per month !! (I used this example to let you know about the situation). So number of selling smart phones reduced %50 and unfortunately Apple and Blackberry lost a huge market in middle east.Three another companies (samsung,LG and sony) still remain in iran and by financial supporting of iran's government and good relationship with japan and s-korea they have good market.
In middle of February the price of z10 was more than $1500 in iran (equal to 6 months salary of an engineer in iran!!) but fortunetly the price have decreased continuously since march. The BB z10 is selling about $600 in market now. However, I belived that most of them are refurbished and is sold to us as new one!!
There is a great potential for selling Blackberry in iran. About %40 of iranians are under 30 years old (about 30 million people) and most of them so interested in loyal and American smart phones such as iphone.
After coming BB z10 to iran, many people prefer to use it to iphone. a lot of stores started to sell BB z10 and many seller said iphone placement will replaced by BB z10. but after 1 month many customers returning their Z10s and they wanted to sell it with cheaper price.They said all services was blocked in iran. it was not possible to update BB OS, you can't to buy applicaions from app store, you can't to use BB email,BBM ,.... . Many buyer complained that the GPRS is deactive by BB and wifi disconnected continual by BB sever. so the BB services that you can use iran is equal to Nokia 1100.
Itunes and google play also have been closed their services to iranians. However, a lot of way exists to use their service . For example by changing IP, using VPN or rooting ( or jailbreaking) mobile phones you can access ti itunes. so BB will lost a great market in the world. I read a news about returning BB z10 in usa. If BB had official service and store in iran (similar to samsung,LG,sony), they would sold more than 1 million smart phone in iran.
The focus of the sanctions has been on Iran's banks and oil industry, Iranian individuals and companies that Western capitals believe are assisting what they suspect is Tehran's drive towards a nuclear weapons capability. However I belived that eventhough sanctions made a lot of problem for iranians in iran, a lot of problem also has been made for western companies such as BB which interest to be iran market.
at the end I have some suggestion for BB company, If they want to sell their mobile phones in iran:
1. please let iranians install application from app world and let get updates (do not fear!! no body use them for nuclear prog ram )
2. please add persian keyboard to your os (you can add 5 letter to arabic keyboard to convert it to persian, it is not difficult).
3. please add the name of iran to your country lists and let us to register in your website.
4. find a local distributor in iran and import your device legal. government give importer companies dollar with cheaper price, so company can sell smartphones with lower price in iran.

Inconsistency between or among applications in the artificial "suites" should come as no surprise.
The "suite" concept is a fabrication of Adobe marketing and bean-counting types. The engineering teams are totally independent of each other, they are not only in different buildings but in different cities and states of the American Union, even in different countries.
The fact that they have little if any communication among them is highlighted by requests occasionally made in these forums by top Adobe engineers to let the other teams know when there are problems in one application that impact our workflow in another one.

In the market for a new laptop..

Hi everyone,
i am currently in the market for a new laptop and seeking some advice.
I am debating between getting a basic rMBR 15' 2.4 GhZ 8/256 model and MBR 2.3 GhZ 4/500. The price for the basic rMBR 15' 2.4 GhZ 8/256 model is 1,867 euros with Apple's friends and family discount i am getting (stock price is 2250 euros here in Ireland). MBR 15' 2.3 GhZ 4/500 starts at 1850 euros and i am not getting friends and family discount off that (don't want to go into details). In any case this isn’t the sort of cash I have lying around.
Apple’s rMBP is a wonder of modern engineering, there is no doubt about that. What i am concerned about is all the software that has to update to add higher res images which takes time and a lot more space because they are effectively doubling the size of the image and my general browsing experience where buttons, logos and anything affected by Photoshop’s “Save for the Web” setting will look blurry or pixelated. This is certainly not the kind of experience I am looking forward to after spending 2k on a laptop.
I'm not a heavy user also I like to take my stuff around with me and I do a little Pro Tools and Logic once in a while.
Any thoughts are appreciated.

What you were told is not correct. Apple doesn't care where your music originated and nothing will be "blocked", but you can only sync your iPhone to one device at a time.
When you first connect your iPhone to a different Mac or PC, you will see a dialog similar to the following (substitute iPhone for iPad - the result is the same):
It will do exactly what it says. If you "Erase and Sync" the iPhone will be erased first. So, make sure whatever music you have on the iPhone is stored someplace else first. Transfer that music to your new Mac's iTunes Library, and then sync your iPhone to it. You will lose nothing that way.

Are there flip cases for iPod Touch? If so, which would you recommend?

I'm in the market for an iPod Touch. I'd like to get a case/cover for it that would function the way the flip cover did on the SONY Clie SJ33 or the Palm T3 worked... much like the communicators on Star Trek!
Does anyone make such an accessory? Are there certain ones you would recommend?

Well, I've received my brand new IPT and still don't have a case!
I've researched the cases suggested here (thanks for the tips!) and scores more (far too many). I cannot seem to find a flip case WITHOUT a magnet! And given what I've read in threads here, I really don't want to risk a several hundred dollar device with a magnetic clasp case. I realize that lots of folks use them without problems, but I keep finding posts from people who have real issues!
And strangely, the Apple Store carries most of the Marware cases EXCEPT FOR THE FLIP CASE (the one I was leaning towards), which is their only case with magnets! Is Apple trying to tell us something?
(I wish I had just bought the Belkin Folio case when it was free after rebate on Black Friday from Amazon!)
As a temporary fix, I've put some thin clear vinyl wrap around the IPT (left over from trials years ago with my Palms) and will jerry rig something with my Palm T3 flip cover-- it's perfectly sized and right form factor! A Palm iPod Touch!
I'm now debating a combo of Power Support Air Jacket with the Marware Flip Vue. And simply gambling on the magnetic clasp problem!
Any thoughts? Reactions? Am I way off base for worrying about the magnets?

I can't believe that there is an anti-virus market for these phones at the moment.
There are only 2 (?) methods of virus propogating on S60.
1. Dubious downloads of software; ie. hacked/cracked stuff
2. Bluetooth.
The thing with the bluetooth transmission is that you have to accept the incoming transmission first. Its a tad silly to keep your bluetooth open in the first place, but to then get a message pop up saying "Do you want to accept incoming application transfer from Joe Pirate" and accept it - you'd have to be pretty stupid.
Its been quite a while since the first virus PoC was announced on Symbian, and theres been absolutely no issues with them propogating in any way.
F-Secure will have you believe otherwise though .....

Again, we're talking mobile phones here -- PDAs running Palm OS or Pocket PC just aren't a viable market for J2ME development as of yet, because they have alternative programming tools and languages and generally more open platforms.
Is this true? Judging from personal experience, plus threads in this forum like Open letter to SUN to produce a JRE for Pocket PC, there seems to be some truth to this claim.
I would like to hear other developer's opinions on this. Has your company abandoned Java development on Windows CE (or Pocket PC) and moved to .NET Compact Framework instead? Or is your company perfectly comfortable with using Java under those environments, except for a few hiccups? Why or why not?

devices, there exists some commercial implementations but I haven't found a truly RAD tool to develop java apps for this platform.
I've suffered with pain the old embedded Visual Basic and Visual C environments from Microsoft for mobile devices and I'm suffering the Compact Framework. They've created an acceptable tool like Visual Studio but it's not much better than alternatives with Java.
I can't believe Sun would have surrender to Microsoft in this apps market but I think they've done it.

I've heard of some companies developing Java apps in a PC environment and then deploy them in PocketPC by using only the right subset of classes.

I'm in the market for the new Mac Pro.

I'm in the market for the new Mac Pro. I've been waiting for it to be released and have some cash set aside for this. I am a video editor and use Premiere Pro CC, and After Effects. My primary content is simple documentary films - so nothing too intense, but always HD (1080) video. I don't see 4k in my future but it's always a possibility so I want to future-proof my purchase for the next 3 years or so. With respect to storage space and RAM, I can make that decision myself based mostly on cashflow (since they are likely both user-expandable). However, with the basic configuration of the number of cores and video graphics card, I could use some advice. I think they are both set for the life of the computer, so important to get it right.
My current thinking is to start with the 6 core model (I guess I have no real reason for this decision, except that I feel like the 4-core base model is put there to make the price feel lower, while the real advantages in performance start at the 6 core - am I way off on this one?). But, I wonder if I should spring for the 8 core or even the 12 core? Probably overkill for me - out of my budget anyway.
The other decision is the graphics card - is the D500 enough? Will it be limiting factor in the future? Or should I move to D700?
Here are the cost differences:
from 6 core to 8 core is $1500
from D500 to D700 is $600

Whether it's worth it depends more on you and what your current and future needs are.
The good news is that Adobe's CC apps can already take advantage of the AMD FirePro GPU's in the Mac Pro, and offer hardware acceleration of the Mercury Playback Engine, which you'll see in Premiere, After Effects, and Media Encoder. According to the Adobe staffers I've talked to, even the FirePro D300's will see a big benefit, in fact they say you won't see a big bump by upgrading the GPU. As far as Adobe's apps are concerned, their OpenCL use is all single precision, and the D500/D700 upgrades put a lot of weight in double precision performance (which is unused in their apps). Their recommendation - put the bulk of your budget on cores and RAM.
How many depends on how elaborate and complex your work is. Simple documentary films with the odd effects, transitions, titles, and grading.. you'd be fine with a 6-core IMO. If you're leaning towards getting into really layered comps and effects, you'd shorten those long render times down a lot with the 8-core. As for memory, I'd recommend at least 4GB per physical core.

Your friends may be right, as the market for SD is saturated, particularly when number of SD consultants are around. For that matter, most of the standard modules are coming to standstill, because of the reason the consultants are growing exponentially and opportunities are getting limited. Yes, there would still be opportunities, if you are an established consultant with skills in niche areas.
