I'm a new BT Vision user, and treying to ween myself off my beloved old PVR (Topflield TF5800).
One of the most useful features on the Topfield was a Time Jump, set to the 4 colour buttons. I had mine set to Red +2 mins, Green + 1 min, Yellow +30 secs, Blue -10 secs
As most ad breaks are 4 minutes, it was very quick to skip these on recorded programs, and much easier than using FF or RW.
Is this possible with BT Vision?
If not, is there any formal way to register feature requests?

The feature is already there. You can FF and RW at varying speeds or you can skip forwards 30 seconds or back 7 seconds. This is also available when using On Demand although there are no commercials in the On Demand content. We use the 30 second skip a lot. You just use the >| button for 30 seconds forward and the |< button for 7 seconds back - these are next to the >> and << buttons respectively.
The blue colour button is already tied up to search the TV Guide at any time and red button services can still be accessed when watching a programme on catch-up so they couldn't really be programmed as you describe.

Optimum external HD size -- is there a ratio for Time Machine performance.

Due to the needs of Time Machine, I will need to purchase more external HD. I own one, a Maxtor 500G networked. Like it a lot, very reliable, not a true server but handy for everyone to use. Won't work for Time Machine, however. So, what I'd like to determine is what I should do for for each Mac in the house.
(2) MacBooks with 160G capacity, approximately 110G in use (they're teenagers afterall)
1 iMac w/ 500G capacity, two users (separate iPhoto, iTunes folders) and 151GB in use. Also, as there are two users with backup needs, should I partition the External in half?
Is there a handy ratio to use from the Apple folks?

Is there a solution for Time Machine error?

I got an error in Time Machine saying backup had failed, a couple of days ago. Spent the next day or two trawling the web and found thousands of postings from people with the same error, but no solution.
(At least, some people had a solution - they were using PC-formatted hard drives.)
I've been using Time Machine for a few weeks, and it has only now taken a dislike to my external hard drive, which is connected by FireWire.
Is there a solution to this problem, or should I revert to using SuperDuper, which I was using successfully before?
I haven't put in lots of information about the apps I'm running, because this is a general query rather than a specific one. If there's a solution, I'll use it; otherwise I'll wipe the drive and go back to using SuperDuper.

The error message was the standard one: "Time Machine Error - Unable to complete backup. An error occurred while creating the backup directory."
There's most likely another, better message in your logs. Thus the suggestion about Time Machine Buddy. You can also use the Console app (in your Applications/Utilities folder). Click on Show Log List, then navigate in the sidebar to your system.log (or system.log.0.bz2, etc. for previous ones). You can filter for backupd to get the same TM messages as the widget, but I prefer to view the full log at the date/time in question, as messages from other concurrent processes may have a clue.
I've gone through the suggestions in some of the helpful replies to those thousands of postings, by wiping my drive, erasing it and reformatting it, first in two partitions using the GUID method in Disk Utility, then in a single partition. But Time Machine still doesn't want to back up to it.
Sounds a bit like a problem communicating with the drive. The logs may clarify that.
The hard drive of my computer is 250GB; the external drive is 300GB. Both are SATA drives; the external is connected by FireWire.
How full are they?

What is the difference between a SuperDuper clone and a Time Machine backup?
The initial backup of both copies almost everything on your HD, excluding only some caches, temp files, etc., although you can exclude other things. This takes quite a while, of course. Thereafter, only the items that changed are backed-up.
SuperDuper (and CarbonCopyCloner, which I use, and other, similar apps) are most often used to make bootable "clones" identical copies of your HD -- if your HD fails, you can boot and run from them immediately. With TM, once your HD is repaired/replaced, you restore your system to it from your TM backup.
Score one for the clones, but TM has it's advantages, too (which is why many of us run both).
First is, CCC and SD look at every file and folder on your HD to see what changed. This is quite time-consuming and CPU-intensive, so most of us run it once a day (or less often), usually automatically at, say, 3 am. TM, however, runs hourly, but uses an internal File System Event Log of changes, so it is far quicker and less intrusive. There are exceptions, but most users rarely even notice the backups unless they see the icon revolving. On my small system, for example, TM rarely runs over 30 seconds; CCC is at least 15 minutes.
Second, not only does TM keep previous versions of changed files, but it manages the space and backups for you. It keeps those hourly backups for 24 hours; except the first of the day becomes a daily backup which is kept for a month; one per week becomes a weekly backup that is kept for as long as there's space (it will fill the drive/partition). But it's smart enough, as it deletes the old weeklies, that it won't delete it's copy of anything that still exists on your HD.
There isn't room to have two 250GB sections on a 300GB drive. I suppose I could get another 250GB drive - I have an IDE enclosure somewhere - but I don't fancy the expense right now.
Your CCC or SD partition only needs to be as large as your HD, although in a pinch it only needs to be somewhat larger than what's actually used on your HD. If you don't have room for both on the one drive, an even better solution might be to get a pair of smaller portable HDs for CCC/SD. Use one daily for, say, a week, then take it to your safe deposit box, workplace, relative's house, etc. and start with the other. Now you're also protected against fire, flood, theft, direct lightning strike on your power lines, etc.

Best Methods for Time, Tempo and Rhythm Alignment?

Hello All, I am looking to edit some lengthy jams to concise segments. I wish to mix and match audio tracks (ex. drum section from begining with bass section in middle with guitar section at end). No metronome was used, so while the general structure (melody and rhythm) remained similar, tempos vary so that the parts don't match up perfectly. I know Logic has some pretty powerful time-based editing capabilities through its flex mode, but i am confused where the logical starting point would be for my situation. Do you think it would be to first chop up segments, pick a q-reference, set a global tempo, stretch or compress segments, and then individually correct any remaining rhythm alignment issues? What do you think are the best methods to accomplish this? I hope my questions are clear - if not please tell me. Thanks to anyone who cares and can help!

Is there a method for actually rotating the co-ordinates of 2D shapes?

Hallo
I'm trying to create a Graphics2D-powered program that needs to include polygons that can rotate. Now, as far as I can tell, affinetransform's methods will only ever transform the co-ordinate system of the User Space. So, for example, a GeneralPath object's co-ordinates will not change at all. Its useful only for rotating the Graphics2D display, not the underlying object.
But I want to actually transform the co-ordinates of the Shape - e.g. select a rotation point (the centroid) of a Shape, and get a new set of co-ordinates for its points that rotates it by x radians. This is because I'm not using it just for display - it will be used to check what points are inside it, and needs to stick to the sprite it's used by.
Is there any way of doing this - using a Shape object persistently, and just moving it and rotating it? Or do I need to make a new one every time, with new co-ordinates? Will I need to write my own rotate function? (Doable, just basic trig, but I kinda hoped there'd be a method somewhere...!)

is there a String method to add a Char to a String given the character number on the string?
EXAMPLE:

I'd like to add a comma after the the 'o' (4th character) so I that text reads: "hello, world"

Yeah, it is a bit confusing.
What you can try doing is creating dynamicStreamingResource and specify start time and end time.

The only problem is you will not be able to seek before the start time...

Is there a method for retrieving the Adobe ID that performed a fulfillment?

In the adept database, there is the 'userid' columns in many tables. Is there any way to get the actual Adobe ID using that or any other means to find out who performed a particular fulfillment?

If by "AdobeID" you mean current email address for the AdobeID (as opposed to Adobe DRM GUID which is what is stored in the tables), then the answer is no there is no way to do this.
If you want to find out who you think did this, the transaction ID is there, which you may have stored seperately with you own account information for the purchase.

Running Totals, is there a method for this

Hello, I am racking my brain out trying to figure out how to do a running total based on each succeding input by the user. It goes like this, if a person has more then x, then it does an if else statement based on the value inputted, else something else. The problem that Im having is trying to figure out how to keep the total in and add it to each successive input, and allowing the whole thing to be ended with a while ! =1.
Any suggestions would be so greatly appreciated.

Is there a method for suggesting apps that don't exist yet?

As a frequent user of call forwarding, it would be great if when I input a phone number it displays as one of my Contacts. This would help avoid mistakes, such as mistyping my home phone number; I might miss that I inputted one wrong digit, but if Home didn't come up I'd see that immediately.
Is there anywhere ideas like this can be posted?

Unfortunately since iPhoto does not know that faces exist exist in photos that it has not found a face you will only get faces that you have not named - to see all photos with potential faces that iPhoto has not found you need to go through all photos and look - I used to add a keyword "face checked" after I went through a photo but fell behind and haven't gotten back to it - with that you can use keyword is not face checked to clean out ones you have done

1. Create the Data Entry Profiles. These are the templates that employees see when they go into their timesheet, and there are lots of options depending on what other modules and/or further processing is required for the time entries.

Is there a method for finding the row count from the resultset after executing a query on a database ?

The best way: read the data from the result set. If you read it into e.g. a LinkedList, size() will tell you how many rows you got. Or you could increment a counter.
There are other ways, such as variants of ResultSet that do the read loop for you. But since you'll be doing the fetch loop anyway, those just add unnecessary work and moving parts.
