Is there a method of converting .cr2 files to DNG when tethered in Lightroom 5.7.1?

don't see any setup parameters in either auto import or tethered capture ...
is there any plugin that will do this on a watched folder?
thanks

No need to do all that exporting and importing. LR will allow you to convert photos to DNG in place in the Catalog. I believe it's under the Photo menu, but I'm not looking at my laptop right now. The menu choice is simply "Convert photos to DNG."

  • How can I safely convert CR2 files to DNG after Import from catalog

Images on my laptop from 2 photoshoots in the studio today were EXPORTED from laptop as catlog and imported to desktop as catalog.
I imported without moving the files anywhere since I was instructed to move that folder to its final resting place.
The 125 images were importred into LR4 but I see they are still CR2 files.
Is there a way to convert these guys to DNG inplace? or is it safe to re-import these. I don't want the side car gig.

Convert to DNG (Library Menu) - do not re-import.

  • Can't convert CR2 files with DNG converter

After buying the Canon T2i, I realized that the files (CR2) won't open in PS.  I did my research and found that the dng converter was the thing I need.  Unfortunately, the converter won't recognize and convert the CR2 files that I try to convert.
I am guessing I will probably get a reply telling me I should have done my research before I bought the camera (as I have seen in other forums), but I am hoping for a more productive (and less offensive) answer.
    Thanks!

I see a lot of answers speaking about having the most up to date version of the Camera RAW Plug-in. I have a similar issue with my .CR2 files... I cannot open them in Camera RAW because it tells me that my camera model or make is not supported by the Plug-in, and so I was directed by other forums to just try converting the .CR2 files to .DNG. I already had the Adobe DNG Converter (version 6.5 I believe), so I tried this. It too told me that my files or camera make were not supported. However, I have always been able to successfully both open my .CR2 files AND convert them to .DNG. I had not updated anything on my camera nor on my Adobe programs and for some reason this last attempt to open RAW files failed me... I have no idea what change would have led to it. Luckily I shopt in both RAW and Large JPG but I certainly don't want to rely on my JPGs of course... Any idea why this problem might have arisen now if it had always worked easily in the past?
    Thanks!

  • What converter do I need to download for converting CR2 files into DNG?

Used EOS Rebel T1i in camera raw setting. The Canon Camera Raw images will not open up because camera is not supported in Photoshop CS5 Extended, version 12.0.4 X64. Also tried to open by changing the the setting to Photoshop Raw but got a "Specified image is smaller than file" alert. When image opened, it was a grayscaled image full of noise. See below. What can I do to open these images, or to convert them?

Your Canon EOS Rebel T1i  is supported and only requires ACR 5.4 or newer.
See: Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras
Since you have Photoshop CS5 you should have ACR 6.7, so either there is something wrong with your install of ACR or you are doing something wrong.
Trying to open in PHOTOSHOP RAW is completely different than ADOBE CAMERA RAW.
You need to use Adobe Camera Raw (ACR),
Just forget that Photoshop Raw even exists. It does not do what you need to do to open your CR2 files.

  • Cant convert CR2 files to DNG.

I downloaded Abobe DNG converter but then discovered that it couldn't convert the CR2 files from my canon EOS D550 to DNGs. So I downloaded the update that said it would be able to do that but it wont install. Any ideas how to get round this. Abobe wont help me cause im using creative suite 2.

Do you mean the DNG converter won't install?  It is a freestanding independent program, so if it won't install there must be something wrong with your download.  Are you on a PC or a Mac?  What OS?  How are you trying to install the converter?  What version are you trying to install?

  • Converting JPEG files to DNG in Lightroom

Is there any advantage to converting JPEG files to DNG when I import them into Lightroom? I am trying to maintain the quality of the file.
Would it be better to save a JPEG file as a PSD file after I import it to use it in Photoshop and Lightroom?

(Please pardon the change of subject:)
Fred T. said, "If you are editing a JPEG in Photoshop going from Lightroom, let Lightroom create a TIFF. "
I am wondering how to do this. I'm just an amateur and my non-SLR camera doesn't even save RAW images. ("Yup, need to take care of that one of these days.")
My Preferences for "External Editors" (in my case Photoshop Elements 4.0) is set as: File Format: TIFF; Color Space: sRGB; Bit Depth: 16 Bits/component; Compression: ZIP.
When I right-click on a file, and choose "Edit in Photoshop Elements 4.0.app", and pick Edit a Copy from the dialog box, the new file that is created and passed over to PE is a .JPG file not a .TIF file.
I get the feeling that the functionality to create a TIFF, or a PSD, only works if my original image is RAW or DNG. But perhaps I am overlooking something???
Life would be a lot easier if I could send the file to PE as a TIFF. At present, as a workaround, I tell LR to edit the original (so it doesn't create a copy), immediately Save-As in PE as a TIFF so I don't overwrite the original, and then when I'm done editing in PE, save the results (still TIFF). Once back in LR, I have to import the new file.
    Any Thoughts?

  • Problems with converted .CR2 files to .dgn on Mac Snow Leopard

    Hi,
I'm trying to convert .CR2 files from my Canon 70D into .dng files so that I can use them in Adobe Bridge CS5. I have been able to convert them using Adobe DNG converter 8.2 but under the file's info I see "Dimensions 0x0". I don't understand why this is happening or how to change this so that it reflects the correct size of the image. Also, I am not able to see thumbnails of the images once they have been converted, and again can't understand why.
Can anyone suggest what I'm missing here?
I have converted photos previously to .dng and they are visible as thumbnails on my mac and the dimensions are shown in their properties so can't understand why this is happening with this new set of photos.
    Thanks

Are the dimensions those of the embedded preview?  Check to see what size of preview you have set in the DNG Converter options.  Perhaps it is set to None.

  • Unable to convert my canon cr2 files to DNG

I cannot convert my caonon 1200d cr2 files for DNG on my vista machine as the latest version of adobe raw convertor will not run on my vista machine/..@

Your CR2 files require Adobe Camera Raw 8.4 or higher and as you have discovered ACR8.4 is not compatible with older operating systems.
ACR8.3 was the final update to raw support for Windows XP, Windows Vista or Mac OSX 10.6.
You should have a copy of Canon DPP with your EOS utility disks. You will need to install and use that, until you get a new computer. You can convert CR2 into tiff or go straight to jpeg, using DPP.

  • Is there an application to convert VOB files to Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger

Is there an application to convert VOB files to Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger, and if there is how do you convert.

VOB files are video files.  Tiger is an operating system.  Converting video files to Tiger frankly doesn't make sense.  Can I convert a Beethoven symphony into a toothbrush?
What is your actual goal in this?  You can play VOB files with VLC, and there is still a Tiger version of that.  Converting to another format is harder since usually when you are working with VOB files you are doing higher end video editing.
If you goal is to convert commercial DVDs you have ripped, don't bother asking.  Discussing that is against the terms of use of this site since ripping commercial DVDs is illegal in the USA and some other countries.

  • Problem Converting Canon CR2 Files to DNG

I am currently on holiday, shooting photos with my Canon 70D in raw (CR2), and I have my Macbook Air with me, with Lightroom 5.4 installed on it.  After each day's shooting, I have been putting the flash card from the camera into the laptop, and downloading the photos using Lightroom, converting the CR2 files to DNG in the process.  This was working fine until a couple of days ago when suddenly, Lightroom has decided that it can no longer do the conversion.  It displays the photos on the card, it allows me to choose the ones I want to download, and then it tells me that it cannot convert/download them because it cannot read the files.  Well, if it cannot read the files, how can it display them so that I can make my choices?  And why, after working successfully for weeks, am I suddenly getting this error message ... nothing has changed in my hardware or software in either the camera or computer.  Any and all help would be most appreciated.  Thank you!!

Thanks very much for the answer, but I'm afraid it is not very enlightening ... at least to someone like me.  I do not understand where I would look for a write permission issue ... especially since nothing has changed (as far as I know).  Can you give me any further help?  Thanks!

  • I am trying to import CR2 files from my canon 450D.  Lightroom 5 won't let me. Help please!!

I am trying to import CR2 files from my canon 450D into Lightroom 5.  Lightroom says 'preview unavailable for this file'.  I cannot get past this.  I have tried importing directly from the camera, and also from an external hard drive that I managed to download the photos onto.  I am new to Lightroom so any simple suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!  Also I am working on a Mac.  Thanks!

I have a 450D and the files open just fine in LR5.
Is this your first attempt at using LR or your first attempt at developing CR2 files?
It sounds like your raw files may be corrupted or there is some permission problem that is preventing LR from reading the files.
Can you upload one of these unrecognized files to http://www.dropbox.com/ and post a public download link to it, for others to test?
Also try copying just one CR2 file to your internal drive and see if that imports, in case there is some problem with the permissions on the external drive.  Just use Finder to copy the file, not LR, in case that is an issue.

  • Batch convert Raw files to DNG via Library's convert to DNG issue

    I have LR 4.4 running on a Win 7 64 bit PC...
I selected 4 RAW files (CR2) to convert to DNG via the Library modules 'convert to DNG' and then delete the CR2 file.
It converted only the last of the 4 files and left the other 3 untouched as CR2 files.  Can LR not batch convert the RAW files in this manner??
    Dave

I tried again to convert the remaining 3 CR2 files to DNG by selecting the 1st file and shift clicking on the 3rd file in the film strip and then via 'Library-Convert photo to DNG.  I have Delete originals after conversion checked.
This time it converted the 1st file and left the other 2 unchanged.  It seems to perform the operation on the 1st file selected...the first time when I tried this on the 4 original files I had clicked on the last file and then shift clicked on the first on in the series.
    BTW...I have LR4.4, Win 7 64-bit, 16G ram, Pentium 7...
For what it's worth, I also noticed that when I "round-trip" a file to CS6 and then SAVE the file it should bring me back to LR with the new file placed next to the old one in LR.  Mine does not.  The new file is not shown and I have to synch and add photo's to have it show in LR.  Another issue...
Thanks for checking on your end.  I suspected LR should properly batch the conversion as it did for you and that I had an issue.  With the Nik suite and Perfect Effects 4 installed I'm hoping not to have to do a complete uninstall/reinstall...what a pain (sigh).

  • Converting Canon S90 CR2 files with DNG 5.6

I have converted files from my S90 with the latest version of DNG Converter. When I compare the DNG file to the original CR2 file, there is a marked increase in saturation, and also more noise. Am I doing something wrong with the conversion? Help please. I am using Adobe RAW 4.6 with Photoshop CS3. Comparative files can be viewed at http://dobbino.blogspot.com/2009/11/dng-converter-canon-s90-raw-files.html

  • Is there any way to convert video files and keep my project in Final Cut Pro 7?

I am currently editing a project, and have been having multiple issues with freezing while editing. Upon doing some quick research, I learned it is bcause my clips are in the h.264 format, which is not a good editing codec. Is there any way to change the codec of the videos and keep the project I have?

You might need to relink the timeline to the new media. Just take the H.264 files offline, and reconnect to the new media. If you media managed the sequence, it'd relink. But then you are only converting the files used in the sequence, not all your media.
