Is there a new 'Wireless Music' product in developme

Hi,
I know the current gen of SB wireless music is a couple of years old, and I was wondering if Creative were looking into doing the 'next gen'. Whilst I don't own one, I am very interested in getting one (they are hard to find here in Australia).
If once is in development I have a few suggestions;
* Ethernet support
* More RAM to decrease buffer/playlist delay
* True 802.g support
* Colour LCD on remote
* Shoutcast/(ASX/ASF) support
* Power/Signal level on remote
If anyone else has suggestions, please post away!
Look forward to seeing the next wireless music!

  • Wireless Music: Product Stat

    Hi there,
    does anyone know if Creative still consider the Wireless Music system as a "li've" product?
    I've just been trawling the forum looking for info about drop outs and freezes, and found a thread where the moderator was kind enough to email a test version of a new firmware to those that requested it. This thread started months ago and as far as I can see this firmware has still not been posted to the official download site. This seems to imply that Wireless Music isn't receiving much love & attention from Creative. Are we likely to see any further development of the system in the future?
    I love the LCD remote supplied with the system but with a large song library finding a particular track can take far too long. Are there any plans to update the software in the remote to either improve the scrolling speed or improve the search facilities?
    Cheers,
    Q.

    Cat,
    Please pass along the bug with accented characters in the Artist name like M?tley Crue. Using the remote if you go in by artist to the albums under the artist and then select the album, nothing displays. If you go in directley from albums it works fine. This is a software bug that's been identified for about a year now and nothing has been done to correct it. As can be seen by this example and others there appears to be a black hole somewhere between the moderators and the developers (if there are any).

  • Wireless Music doesn't work with new software

    Hello-
    I can't get my wireless music to work after I update the software to the latest version. The only one that will work is when I install it from the CD. But, I would like to use the most recent version of the software. As soon as I update, the Media Server won't launch on my computer. I am using a linksys WRT54G wireless router. If I check DHCP clients, the wireless music receiver is successfully getting an IP address. I have tried all of the things that linksys suggested (disable WEP, firewall, broadcast SSID, etc...) to no avail. Has anyone gotten the latest media server software to work with WRT54G? I have tried it on both my XP and W2K machine, with the same results (doesn't work).
    Thanks,
    Rich

    <SPAN>Hi Jeremy
    <SPAN>I have the similar problem, I've installed the software on my desktop, no error messages (apart from the certificate) and everything seems to be fine. After about 2 minutes the message appears that the network is not ready and consequently the media server is not running.
    <SPAN>Without the server running I can't setup the Network and the entire system is not working. I could ping it but that was about it.
    <SPAN>I've reset my router, renamed the SSID, tried with and without WEP, MAC, without firewall, opened a new account on my desktop with admin rights installed the software again into a new folder - result still not working, same error message.
    <SPAN>To make really bad, I installed it on my laptop, same procedure and it works fine! So it seem that it has nothing to do with my wireless devices or configurations, there must be a problem while setting up the software on my desktop.
    <SPAN>I really would appreciate your help a lot!

    <SPAN>Cheers

  • Wireless Music - Software updates or updated version?

    I have two SoundBlaster Wireless Music receivers and I love the functionality, but I am seriously disappointed with the software/operation... It is not fast or user friendly!
    Are there any plans for updates to the remote/software? or are there plans for a new product to replace this?
    I am sure others have commented on the same problems/performance/lack of features:
    - needs a page up/down feature for scrolling through long lists!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    - needs alternate drill down paths (genre to artist to song, genere to album to song, etc)
    - needs alternate sorting (by artist, song, etc... it is frustrating to see a list of songs sorted by artist when you are seeing the song name, not the artist name)
    - needs to be able to save/export information such as playlists and song ratings (preferrably into the id3 tags) so they can be reinstalled and not have to be recreated when you get a new PC
    - would be great to be able to select from different libraries... put my C/W into one library, Rock into another, etc... I know I can make a C/W playlist and such, but when you have been collecting CD's for 20 years, I have so many it would be nice to subset it from the start.
    - browse songs on the remote by folder also...
    - and I could go on and on...
    I assume a lot of the lack of user friendly operation might be because it was not tested with large libraries... Making the remote's ability to navigate songs faster/easier would make it so much nicer!
    Any word on the future of the software or new products to replace it would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    -Ray

    RayBowers,
    Currently the most recent update that I have is firmware update that addresses difficulties with high bitrate files. That file is available through email currently and does update the remote software (but no changes to functionality that I know of). I have not received any information on updates for the wireless music but will pass your suggestion to our product developers (along with your request). I'll see if I can find anything out for you on this.

  • About Lenovo Thinkpad W540 for Music Production at a Professional Level

    Hey there! I just signed up to this blog in search for an answer to my quest. I've heard a lot of good things about Lenovo ThinkPad W540, and I would like to make sure that I am getting what I really need to stay up to date, in this everyday changing technological world, for a while before making a purchase.
    So far, this is what I got in my wish list:
    Intel Core i7-4700MQ Processor (6MB Cache, up to 3.40GHz)
    Windows 7 Professional 64
    15.6" FHD (1920 x 1080) LED Backlit Anti-Glare Display, Mobile Broadband Ready
    W540 NVIDIA Quadro K1100M 2G
    16GB PC3-12800 DDR3L (4 DIMM)
    500GB Hard Disk Drive, 7200rpm
    DVD Recordable
    Intel Dual Band Wireless 7260AC with Bluetooth 4.0
    1 Year Depot or Carry-in
    I would like to know what are the major differences between the above items, which I have in my wish list, and the ones below:
    1) Intel Core i7-4930MX Processor (8MB Cache, up to 3.90GHz)
    2)15.5” 3K (2880 x 1620), IPS LED Backlit Anti-Glare Display, Mobile Broadband Ready, Color Sensor
    3) W540 NVIDIA Quadro K2100M 2G
    4) 32GB PC3-12800 DDR3L (4 DIMM)
    5) I would like a 1TB hard drive but they don't come at 7200 rpm, i guess the one in my wish list works fine.
    6) Do I need a more sophisticated Optical Drive from the  DVD Recordable in my wish list?
    I guess whay I am trying to investigate is if I can function in the music production world with a Thinkpad  W 540 with the specs already in my wish list? And, what difference would it make updating this machine with the specs below. Your assistance and comments will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

     Hi ColonellONeill, thank you for taking your time in attempt to solve my problems.
    Temperatures varies, but it never reached to unbearably hot.
    Shutdown warning: for the last couple of times, I did got the blue screen warning (that windows had problem and will restart after collecting the necessary information) on my Helix and hanged display on my external monitor. Otherwise, most of the time, there isn't warning at all.
    I doubt if there is anything to do automatic windows update as I have scheduled it every morning at 3 'O' clock! Sometimes it works from weeks to couple of months without even noticing any of these technical problems but then when it starts, it stays for weeks; it just comes and goes - never been able to resolve the issues completely; even the technician.
    (It just happend right now! and this time wihtout even warning, and Helix wasn't even running 30 minutes - temperature is normal, I can feel it's little warm.)
    Currently I am using my Helix with Thinkpad USB 3 dock connected to external Monitor with wired keyboard and mouse connected back at the dock.

  • Connecting Printer to a new Wireless network (changed network provider)

    I have recently changed broadband provider and I am struggling to connect my printer (HP Deskjet 3050A All in One Printer) to my new wireless network.
    I have clicked on HP within programs and tried to set up the printer but my laptop is not recgonising that the printer is connected via the cable so its not picking up the printer in order for me to set it up as a new device.
    Help please??

    Welcome to the HP Community Forum.
    The easiest way to deal with this may be to install (reinstall) the Full Feature Software for the printer onto your computer.
    The installation procedure includes a connection process that might resolve the issue for you without adding any more stress to the situation.
    Along with the basic instructions and install videos, you can find lots of helpful Troubleshooting / Howto help at the printer's website support pages.
    TIP:  You do want to disconnect the USB cable from the printer before you install / reinstall the software.
    General Instructions to Install the Printer Software
    Reminder:
    In most cases, the Solution Center has been replaced by the Printer Assistant.
    The Printer Assistant shortcut will be installed on your Desktop during the last part of the installation.
    Windows Operating System:
    Create Restore Point:   Create a Restore Point – Win7 OR  Create a restore point Win8
    Open HP Drivers & Downloads

    Select your Printer from the “Results” list
    OR
    Open HP Deskjet 3050A e-All-in-One Printer series - J611
    Select your Printer from the “Results” list
    Enter your Operating System in the Drop-down menu
    Click NEXT and Scroll down
    Look for category Driver - Product Installation Software
    Select the Basic Driver, e-print, or Full Feature Software
    Save the *.exe installation package(s) on your computer
    The file(s) will likely save to the "Downloads “folder.
    Be sure to look for Updates as needed for your installation. If available, you may download the Print and Scan Doctor and / or other programs from Category – Utilities.
    If you have ‘Admin’ control, you may highlight the package and “double-click” to install it, else Right-Click, Select run as Administrator and install.
    NOTES:
    Look at the bottom half of the main webpage for your printer for helpful videos to assist with the installation of the printer software!
    Scroll the video list back and forth until you find the video that most closely matches your situation.
    If using a USB connection: Download and install the driver software before connecting a USB cable.

  • New wireless keyboard layout

    Can anyone explain why the new wireless keyboard doesn't have a numeric keypad? The previous keyboards were the same with the exception of the tethered cord. Does Apple not think I would like to have the same keys on my wireless keyboard (entertainment keys, numeric keys)? I don't understand.

    After 45 minutes, 9 Apple "reps" and redialing 6 times, I finally got to a place that they call "Customer (something other than service)" and the person there was at a loss when I asked for customer service. Oh well, anyway he said that he could assist me and what could he do? I asked about the new wireless keyboard (being that my white one, the best thing I have ever gotten, will need to be replaced soon, they don't hold up to Power User wear and tear) not having ten key. The rep said that he hadn't noticed. WHAT?!
    So we proceeded to investigate, low and behold he got education and was amazed that there were two different versions and why the wireless one had no 10 key. We discussed that this was the dumbest thing and that it will undoubtedly hurt sales. I asked because of that, will there be a "real" one? He excused himself to go ask a product rep. After about 10 minutes he returned and said that he told them of our conversation, made it clear how I felt and said that they were aware that there was "growing negative opinions" about the new piece and that there, if at all, wouldn't be a version with 10 key until at least next quarter. I told him my main concern was that in about a month or so I will need to pick about 50 of them and if there is no 10 key, I'll have to go to Logitech. He said that the product rep mentioned that they probably lost another sale to Logitech. Yup.
    WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?!!!!!!
    P.S.
    Since the one I have now is still under warranty, as were the previous ones, when I take it back I'll probably get a 10 keyless one, hopefully with the provision that I can exchange it for a real one when they come out.
    We'll see.

  • Wireless music player with Time Capsule :advice sought

    Hi,
    All my music files in my iTunes library are stored on my Time Capsule.
    I would like to purchase a wireless music player (Squeezebox or similar, not Mac TV) that could directly access and play the music stored on my Time Capsule, without the need for Mac Book to be switched on. From the few wireless music players I have looked at, I get the impression (possibly false) that I would need the music player's client software installed on the Mac Book to serve the music to the player, which implies that the Mac Book needs to be switched on when the music player is in use (correct/false??)
    Can any one please give me some advice here? Is my understanding correct? Is there a simple way to configure my wireless network to allow a music player to play files directly from the Time Capsule? Can you recommend a particular music player that would allow me to do this?

    I would expect exactly what you are getting.
    Wireless is not going to transfer real world speeds higher than about link speed divided by 3, maybe even 4.
    Find your link speed. Hold down the option key and click the wireless fan in the top menu area.
    Take the transmit rate and divide by 3..
    You should realise that wireless is limited by Apple to 130Mbps at 2.4ghz although in newer equipment you can achieve 217Mbps.
    For 5ghz the speed will be 450Mbps in the same room but drops off quickly.. the above shot is with the TC in the next room.. max link speed dropped from 450 to 162 as drop off at 5ghz is very rapid.

  • Wireless Music System Issue in Windows 7

    I've been using the wireless music system for a few years and love it. However, I have an issue with it in Windows 7. all the software installs fine and appears to be functioning correctly. I did notice that the updated software driver does give me a network not ready error.
    The main issue I have been unable to solve is when starting the media server it shows it's running at the address of 27.0.0. not the address of the machine. With it running at this address the receiver never can find the server.
    I haven't been able to configure the receiver as I get a error message saying there is a problem with the wirelss network. when i do plug in the receiver, it lists the name I named it under XP. I am able to ping the device from Windows 7 as well as two other XP machines so it has retained it's address. When I boot back into XP it connects fine. I don't think the issue is with the receiver since when I go back to XP everything works fine.
    Does anyone have an idea how to make the media server run on the IP address of the computer itself rather than the local host address? I noticed also that in the properties for windows media player in the network section in Windows 7 it also shows that it is running on the same 27.0.0. address.
    Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I hate to think I might have to come up with something new.

    hi, to get past this stage of the instalation you need to use a usb wired mouse, this means a mouse that has a wire and usb to plug into your mac.
    the onscreen keyboard can be found if you click on the icon on the bottom left of the setup screen (looks similar to a wheelchair sgn)
    a usb wireless mouse or keyboard will not work because the wireless drivers are not yet installed in windows. they will install along with all other drivers when you open the bootcamp drive (can be found in win7; "my computer"
    in win 8; "this pc") and click on setup exe. this installs bootcamp on the windows side and installs all the drivers that you downloaded while originally running bootcamp assistant.

  • [request] Wired 0.2: music production software

    Hi,
    I have tried to make a pkgbuild for the new 0.2 release of Wired, a music production and creation software that I think looks really promising.
    The dependencies for this software are appearently already in the repos, except for portaudio and libsoundtouch, which are in the AUR.
    I have gotten this far in making a pkgbuild:
    pkgname=wired
    pkgver=0.2
    pkgrel=1
    pkgdesc="Wired aims to be a professional music production and creation software"
    url="http://wired.sourceforge.net/"
    depends=('gtk2' 'wxgtk' 'libsndfile' 'libsamplerate' 'dssi' 'libsoundtouch' 'portaudio' 'libxml2')
    source=(http://dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/wired/$pkgname-$pkgver.tar.gz)
    md5sums=(02a60a5d5841766a109696736d8bc80e)
    build() {
    cd $startdir/src/$pkgname-$pkgver
    ./configure --prefix=/usr --sysconfdir=/etc --enable-dssi
    make || return 1
    make DESTDIR=$startdir/pkg install
    find $startdir/pkg -name "*.la" -exec rm {} ;
    The libsoundtouch package in AUR is a bit out of date, and the website has moved, so I made a new pkgbuild for that:
    pkgname=libsoundtouch
    pkgver=1.3.1
    pkgrel=1
    pkgdesc="The SoundTouch library is suited for application developers writing sound processing tools that require tempo/pitch control functionality, or just for playing around with the sound effects."
    url="http://www.surina.net/soundtouch/"
    source=(http://www.surina.net/soundtouch/soundtouch-$pkgver.tar.gz)
    md5sums=('5e0185e81dbba2f2eed8581b7664ab04')
    build() {
    cd $startdir/src/soundtouch-$pkgver
    ./configure --prefix=/usr
    make || return 1
    make prefix=$startdir/pkg/usr install
    find $startdir/pkg/usr/lib -name '*.la' -exec rm {} ;
    According to the creators of Wired, you should compile Portaudio without jack support, like this:
    pkgname=portaudio
    pkgver=19
    pkgrel=1
    pkgdesc="PortAudio is a free, cross platform, open-source, audio I/O library"
    url="http://www.portaudio.com/"
    license=""
    depends=('alsa-lib')
    source=(http://www.portaudio.com/archives/pa_snapshot_v19.tar.gz)
    build() {
    cd $startdir/src/$pkgname
    ./configure --prefix=/usr --with-alsa --without-jack
    make || return 1
    install -d $startdir/pkg/usr/{lib,include}
    make PREFIX=$startdir/pkg/usr install
    But there seems to be some problems, probably with the configuration of portaudio... I don't know how to fix it, so if someone that is good with packages and is interested in this project would help, I and probably more people that likes making music would be happy.

    Hmm, I contacted the developers and it seems that there is some bug that prevented it from working for me. They were on to it, so I guess it will have to wait a while...

  • Yosemite destroyed music production...

    Many of us use Macs for music production!
    Unfortunately, Yosemite update crashed all the softwares and it is impossible to make them work the way they suppose to...
    Many of them dont  open up or run, or if they are, they have so many glitches that is impossible to work with it...
    Softwares affected?! Tones of them... Many Versions of protools... Native instruments... Sibelius... Reason... Fruity loops... Melodyne... MPC works but glitches really bad... and many many others... Yosemite doesn't recognize Mbox series devices... I am so disappointed... All my setup was prepared for work and now I'll have to reinstall around 700GB... just because I can't work with it and Ill have to downgrade.... Yosemite received so many complains about such issues already... And no update is being released or nobody knows what to do or how to fix these issues... There is absolutely no support... no solution... Very sad that apple releases their OS X before the operating system is actually stable to work with... It is so important to keep all devices up to date for work efficiency... But I guess it's nothing new anymore... Since they've done the same thing when Mavericks was released....
    If you do work with audio softwares, think again if it is worth your time to install something that will mess up everything...

    Welcome to the Discussions.
    I regret that you have had no answer to date, but closer definition of your needs may get the ball rolling. What kind (genre) of music? Music that has many sources or few (many microphones, or mics and taped/pre-recorded sounds, or solo keyboard)? This affects your need for pre- and post-processing, and may involve an external soundcard to keep your music away from digital 'noise' within a Mac.
    How much processing of recorded sound do you expect to do? Are you prepared to spend money on professional editing software, RAM, hard drives and whatever in addition to a mixer, pre-amplifiers, microphones and the like?
    Will you do field or venue recording and studio recording? Portables are accomplished machines nowadays, but a fixed installation with a desktop is considerably easier to expand/set up for sound recording in a studio, or at home.
    The questions could go on and on, but you get the idea. What do you have in mind as music production?

  • Music Production + Lion = Screwed?

    First off, hello all! I've been asking around and I can't seem to find a straight answer from anyone. I am new to the mac world, so please forgive my n00bness
    I bought a refurbished 27" iMac from the online Apple Store with an i7 3.4GHz quad-core released in May 2011 just a couple of weeks ago for music production work. I run Pro Tools 9 as well as Cubase (eventually Logic) with various plugins by Toontrack and Spetrasonics and reFX. The music community has basically said DO NOT upgrade to Lion yet since nothing is for sure compatible, so naturally I wanted to avoid Lion like the plague. I had one in-store employee and one tech support guy confirm that the refurbished iMac I was interested in will have Snow Leopard since it came out before Lion's release....Except it did in fact have Lion. Whoops.
    I've talked with various apple employees and even spend 30 minutes with Apple's tech, sales, and someone else (all of which who were very kind) to figure out why I have the "wrong" operating system, and no one could give me a straight answer on how to sort this out. I really want to have Snow leopard installed since I know i can run my programs. Right now i can at least open Pro Tools and, well, look at it. I'd rather not return this machine because of the processor and I just bought more RAM from Crucial to install.
    Do you guys any suggestions on how to get Snow Leopard running, or am I stuck with a $2000+ paperweight?

    I just checked the store and the model you bought is advertised as containing Lion (we had a similar question a couple of weeks ago and theirs was advertised as being loaded with Snow Leopard, so they did get a Snow Leopard install disk from Apple). So, yours is advertised as having Lion, so you don't have that argument; however, since the person told you it would (you don't happen to remember the name/date/time?), I saw there are other machines which come with Snow Leopard. So, you could try to get it exchanged for a model that does have SL? You'd still be able to move up to Lion at a later time if you want.

  • Older imac just for music production?

    Hi,
    I have an 'oldish' iMac 21" (white casing with isight camera - macOSX 10.5.8  - 2.1GHz power pc G5 - 1.5GB DDR2 SDRAM- apx march2006).
    I am wondering if this machine would be ok for running pro tools (or perhaps other music prod apps) and not much else - just music production.
    If the answer i get is yes, how does one go about removing everything off the imac to make it essentially new again?
    thanks in advance
    adam

    nibbs wrote: ... I am wondering if this machine would be ok for running pro tools (or perhaps other music prod apps) and not much else - just music production....
    Yes, but you must check software system requirements with your iMac's hardware capability.  Example:
    1. Decide which software you want to use based on what you want to do.
        For example, you might decide you need Apple Logic Pro X to do the things you want.
    2. Look at Logic Pro X Technical Specifications to find its minimum System Requirements.
    3. Compare the specs for your iMac with those needed by Logic Pro X.
    4. I cannot tell exactly which iMac you use from your description. However,
        because Logic Pro X requires Mac OS X 10.8.4 or later, I know it cannot work with your
        PowerPC Mac.  PPC Macs cannot run any OS X version later than 10.5.x.
    5. If lesser software will meet your needs, you may decide to try to find an older version
        of Logic like Apple Logic Express or something else whose system requirements match
        the capabilities of your iMac. NOS (new old stock) items of older software versions
        compatible with your PPC Mac may be available at your store or on line.
        If you MUST have Logic Pro X capability, there is no way to make your old iMac work.
    nibbs wrote:... how does one go about removing everything off the imac to make it essentially new again...
    Make backups of all important files.  (They are NEVER coming back.)
    Startup your iMac with the OS X install (DVD) disk. You MUST boot with the install/restore disk that came with your iMac or use the 10.5 Leopard install DVD if you upgraded from an earlier Mac OS X version.)
    After you choose your language, use Disk Utility on the Install DVD to "zero" (sometimes called "secure erase") your startup disk.  This can take an more than an hour per "pass", so do NOT use the higher numbers of zero writes option for your purpose.  One zero write pass is enough.
    After your disk is wiped, quit Disk Utility.  While still booted with the same DVD, choose to "Install (or reinstall) OS X.  You can follow or print the instructions from Apple's Welcome to Leopard document.
    After the restart that completes the installation, your Mac will be as new.  You can then install any of the applications that you want to use from the disks that came with your Mac or from Apple or third-party software CD/DVDs.
