Is there a one-click white balance available?

I'd like to click on something in post to set the white balance, similar to how I can do it in Aperture. I see it in Final Cut Pro, but I don't know about FCE4.
Anything like that?

Final Cut PRO?!? Taylor, you've got better tools in there. I think it's the three up color corrector. I don't have Pro, so I'm not sure what it's called.
I go to Filters/Video Filters/Color Corrector and click the Visual button to get the color wheels and sliders at the bottom. To the bottom left of the Balance wheel is a tiny (I DO mean tiny) arrow. Click that and then move your cursor over the canvas. The cursor becomes an eyedropper. Click on something white or neutral grey to snap your overall color into shape. Tweak accordingly, afterwards. Warm it up or cool it down, based on your needs. Holding the command button and shift button while dragging the circle in the center of the balance wheel affects how fast the color changes.

  • Is there a one click save all edits to copies of photos option?

    HI,
Assuming... I have this correct... is there a way to export and merge all your "edits" with your photos and save them as copies with one click rather than individually / one at a time?
Why?  Ultimately so I can save my resulting good photos... thousands... as copies that I can use with other apps... or NO apps.
But why?   OK, I am new and uncomfortable with the file system in lightroom.  The way I understand it is you create a catalog, basically thumbnails of your images on your drive.  Then any edits you do become part of a metafile, which is a large database of all your edits for all your photos in one file.  When you pull up an image from a "catalog" (assuming you have not moved it) LR pulls up the image and combines it with the edits you made from the "metafile" to show you your edited photo.
OK, but why?   Because I use other software and AFTER my year is up, I may not renew.
The file system seems geared to make you dependent on Adobe and frankly, if that is so, it bothers me greatly.  (Wait till SharePoint catches up to us.)
    1) do not want my modified images locked up or my edits inaccessible.
    2) I would like to try and learn it Adobe's way, and not have multiple copies all over the place.
    3) but I am going to have to give up my hierarchy and easy way to find and save pics to do it Adobe's way  (which I still do not completely understand.)
    4) There are some things I do very easily with Photoshop and Cannot use Adobe until I figure them out... if at all possible.
SO before I commit to a years purchase.   Can someone answer my rather direct question as stated in the first two lines.
    Thank you,
    Kevin
I am old school, been using computers since before the 286's and the catalogs and this proprietary stuff is confusing because I have not found an explanation that helps me ask the right questions or explains it the way I need it.  So, aside from the intro training videos... if anyone knows a information source that is useful, direct, to the point (that does not make you sit in your chair going ... My God, I have other things to do today, get to the point... Please share.  I will consider every link.  (I am used to being the Go To guy and this is frustrating.)

Because I use other software and AFTER my year is up, I may not renew.
In which case, all parts of Lightroom except develop and map are still available to you, indefinitely, which allows you to export your edited photos from Lightroom after you stop paying the subscription.
Is there a one-click way to save every edited photo? No, but you can do it with multiple clicks (Select All Photos, File->Export, set the desired options, click on Export), and even given all of your misgivings about Lightroom (which many people share and many people don't share), that seems to me like overkill. Worst case scenario: you stop paying your subscription and then you can still perform this export at that time.

  • White balance settings always display 5000K 0 Tint

Been searching on this, found a few things, but nothing helpful.
In the past few weeks, it appears that Aperture is no longer interpreting my cameras white balance settings properly. The colors themselves are fine, however, the adjustment applet always shows 5000k with 0 tint. I'm not quite sure when this started, but it's quite frustrating. This appears to be happening on everything newly imported. (I can only verify JPG at the moment, as I'm seeing this on a Canon S95 and 60D, which both don't have RAW support yet in Aperture).
Anyone ever see this happen, or no of a solution? I'm using Aperture 3, latest updates etc. on OS X 10.6.4. My older files all appear fine, it's just these recents, from these two cameras. Unfortunately, I've sold my other gear, and don't have an older cam around to test. Either way, other products, Adobe, seem to be reading things properly.
    Thanks for any input.

So all these files are JPEGs?
Note that white balance works very differently with JPEGs and RAW files. There really is no "white balance" information in a JPEG, and you can't adjust them the same way. That's one of the big advantages of RAW files. I suspect once Aperture supports the RAW files for those cameras, then you'll get proper white balance. Until then, with JPEGs you're kinda SOL. It's a bunch more work. But that's the nature of the medium.

  • Image contains camera White Balance setting; LR 5.5 only shows "As Shot", "Auto", and "Custom"

I have a new, Panasonic DMC-GX7. I shot a bunch of photos as JPGs. When viewing their Exif data using Exiftool, I can clearly see the camera's White Balance setting, as well as the Color Temp Kelvin, WB Red Level, WB Green Level, and WB Blue Level. However, Lightroom 5.5 only shows "As Shot", "Auto", and "Custom" when I click White Balance under Quick Develop on the Library tab or WB under Basic on the Develop tab. Exiftool shows the Exif Version as 0230 and the Panasonic Exif Version as 0405. Is LR looking for the white balance information in some other field? Do I need to configure it somehow for my camera? I am new to LR (but not to image processing), so could use some help figuring this out.

The whole question is not so simple as converting to DNG. Yes DNG is openly documented, yes the file can be read, but that does not mean it can be correctly interpreted by other software in the future and the best you can then do is starting the PP of your images from scratch. Imagine a DNG with LR adjustments that in some years you open the file in another software, possibly non-Adobe. Even if the file can be read it will not look the same, as the Adobe specific developing instructions could not be strictly followed. Even if all software manufactures agreed on a common set of adjustments, let's say everybody had a Highlights slider and a Clarity slider and so on, which is unlikely, the results would still be different as the underlying algorithms would be different.
Disclaimer: I only shoot raw and firmly believe it is the best option, but one must be conscious it has some shortcomings related to the future of our images.

  • Working Without White Balance

    Camera: Nikon D90
    Adobe CS5 Design Suite
My goal is to work in Photoshop and Camera Raw without using White Balance.
As I understand, the camera stores within the raw NEF file what was seen by the camera chip without correction. For example, if the camera chip sees say 10,000 red photons, this is stored as say 200. If the camera chip sees 20,000 red photons, this is stored as 400. Hence, it is linear. Of course, the actual storage is as a Bayer array.
    http://www.cambridgeincolour.com/tutorials/camera-sensors.htm
In theory, from the raw NEF file, one should be able to reconstruct the image that fell upon the camera chip.
On the camera itself, there are many camera White Balance settings. However, it lacks a "None" i.e. "As Is" setting meaning do not assume anything about the light source and make no correctons. Just record the photon levels and give me back the same image that was focused on the camera chip.
As an experiment, I shot a daylight scene using 2,500K (obviously, an extreme value) for the white balance. When I look at the raw file in Camera Raw, the "As Shot" shows a heavy blue tint. Hence, Camera Raw was using the  2,500K white balance selecting of the Nikon for the "As Shot" setting in Camera Raw. Looking at the Camera Raw basic panel White Balance drop down  items, there is no "None". Hence, Camera Raw always assumes there is a White Balance and makes corrections.
Why would I want to do this? For example, I have multiple varied color light sources. I want to see exactly the image my eye sees. I do not want the camera making corrections since there is not a single light source for it to make assumptions about how to correct.
Is there a way in Photoshop or Camera Raw to show me the image without any white balance correction. Thanks in advance.

The sensor is linear, but the sensitivities of the red, green and blue channels differ, so one must take these differing sensitivities into account when rendering the image from the raw data. As demonstrated by others, channel multipliers of unity (UniWB) do not yield the intended result. To obtain your intended result, empirically determined multipliers would be necessary. When used for white balance, these multipliers are chosen to that a white target will have equal RGB values in the rendered image. For your purpose, multipliers would need to be chosen so that the white target would assume the color of the incident light. In other words, if the white target were illuminated with reddish light, the image would be reddish and not white.
Why would I want to do this? For example, I have multiple varied color light sources. I want to see exactly the image my eye sees. I do not want the camera making corrections since there is not a single light source for it to make assumptions about how to correct.

I infer that you want the captured image to reflect the spectra of the actual scene luminances (or more likely a metameric tristimulus match) rather than how you perceive them. The human visual apparatus exhibits chromatic adaption, whereas the sensor does not. The CIE xyz model assumes complete chromatic adaption and the color models based on CIE models need a white point to operate, so you are attempting to use ACR in a manner other than for which it was intended. There is an interesting exercise on the Stanford web site that shows how one can use a digital camera (the Nikon D70) in conjunction with a spectrophotometer to obtain spectrophotometric data from the camera. To recreate the actual spectra, two additional colored filters are required, but if one merely needs a metameric tristimulus match, perhaps only the three native CFA filters of the camera would be needed.
    http://scien.stanford.edu/pages/labsite/2006/psych221/projects/06/clintonk/index.htm
Going back to ACR, experience indicates that if one wants to recreate the appearance of a colorful sunset or a candlelit scene (cases that exceed the limits of chromatic adaption), a daylight color balance works best. It would seem intuitively that an equal energy illuminant (CIE Illuminant E) would be appropriate. This corresponds to a correlated color temperature of approximately 5455K.

  • 6500 classic: how to save "White balance" setting ...

Hello, when I activate the camera, the image looks like filled with blue, so I need to go to camera settings, click "White balance", and select "Daylight" instead of "Automatic" - now the picture will be perfect. But next time when I activate the camera, I should repeat this step again.
How to save "White balance" settings to "Daylight" forever?

    Unfortunately it's not possible.
The setting will only be effective for one session. Once you close the camera application they will revert to default.

  • Changing white balance for multiple photos

    Hello All, and Happy Holidays...
During the holidays I was taking photos at a family gathering, about 125 or so, under tungsten light. I forgot about setting the white balance on the camera to tungsten until half-way through the evening. Is there a way to easily change the colour cast for the initial photos? I'm hoping that there is a "retro" white balance setting since all these images will need the same colour shift. I am using an old old version of photoshop that doesn't have a batch function, though I am waiting for the CS3 - but that could take awhile since its coming through the school.
    Thanks in advance!!

    SethB:
You can try changing the temperature setting in the Adjust pane of iPhoto to what suits you best. Then click on the copy button (in the Adjust pane) , go to the next photo via the arrow buttons and click on the paste button. That will let you go thru the photos fairly fast applying the same correction to each.
    Happy New Year
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Question about stamping white balance

    Hello,
I'm a beginner in Aperture and have the following question for which I haven't found an answer yet.
Let me explain what I did and where the problem rose:
I have a set of photo's (400+, RAW), all taken at the same location under nearly same conditions (oldtimer rally, outside, sunny weather).
I've adjusted the first image by choosing:
    Exposure: 'auto'
    White balance: 'auto'
White balance was changed by Aperture in (in the Inspector): Temperature & Tint and for both a specific value.
I changed the second image the same way.
Again Aperture choose Temperature & Tint for white balance and specific, but other, values than for the first image.
    Fine sofar.
I lifted the adjustments of the second image:
    Adjustments:
White balance : Auto White Balance
    Exposure : Auto Exposure
Deselected everything but Adjustments for White balance and Exposure.
Selected image 3 until the last one and stamped them.
80% of the image's OK but for about 20% of the photo's, Aperture came up (in the Inspector) with "White balance: natural gray".
So I thought to be smart and changed one photo (White balance : natural gray) to Temperature & Tint.
    Photo adjusted: OK.
If I lift the adjustments of this photo, Aperture shows:
    Adjustments:
    White balance : Temperature (4851.60), Tint (10.68)
    Exposure : Auto Exposure
If I select this and use it to stamp all "White balance: natural gray" photo's, I have the problem that the 'stamp' also stamps the temperature and tint values where I want it, of course, to 'auto detect' these values as they are not the same for each photo for the best result.
    Any solution for this?
    Kind regards,
    emeu1

I guess in all actuality it doest matter much, I'm jet one of those users with ocd and detail analysis, making sure its always up to standards. but all in all, I'm thinking to spend more time at an apple store messing with the white iPhones

  • Why is there no white balance info in 3.3.1?

I want to transfer my iPhoto library over to Aperture, but am reluctant to do so until I have familiarised myself with the new program. (I have over 23,000 photos in iPhoto!)
As a start, I have imported a few of my recent photos from iPhoto so that I can find my way around Aperture. One thing puzzles me. I can see the white balance information for each photo in iPhoto but the white balance field is greyed out in the Aperture metadata, and there is no 'cloud' or 'sun' picture at the top right of the Info panel, even though the white balance field is ticked in the Metadata Fields panels for Exif Info and Camera Info. I really need to know which camera setting I used for each photo to help me learn how to take better photos, but as far as I can see the information is not available to me anywhere in Aperture.
I have performed Aperture Library First Aid (repaired permissions and database, and rebuilt database) but the problem still exists. I can't find anything anywhere on the internet or in Apple Support that mentions this problem. Does anyone have any ideas for me please?

Sorry, I see you are referring to the Info and not the Adjustment.
Since I am seeing both in each program, I am not sure which may be the culprit.
You could try launching Aperture while depressing the 'Option' key and creating a new test library (Create New.. button). Then export some original files from iPhoto to say the desktop > import into the Aperture test library to see if the information shows up.
If you now see the info, then there may be something going on with iPhoto that is preventing the transfer. If this is the case, you might try the iPhoto discussions since the usual helpers would know more than I about fixing a potential iPhoto library issue.
Otherwise, wait for someone more knowledgable than I to help here as I am not sure what would cause that if iPhoto isn't (and since you have already used the Aperture First Aid).

I Purchse iTuens Match. Whow do I download all available songs with only one click. I have more than 4000 songs and I do not want to click and wait for every song.

Unfortunately, there is no button to download all songs at once, but you could download a whole album at once. Therefor just open iTunes and choose the album view, then click on the little "iCloud" icon in the upper right corner of the album art.
    Edit: Winston's solution is better.

  • Is there a good white balance plug-in for Premiere Elements?

Now that I've discovered and installed the Mercalli V2 Stabilizer plug-in (wow, is it great!), I think that the only thing lacking in Premiere Elements 10 is a plug-in to correct white balance.
What I'm talking about is a simple warmer / cooler temperature adustment plug-in.

A true white balance correction plug-in is no comparison to using the three-level Color Corrector or Color Enhancer.
If anyone has done extensive work on still images in Adobe Photoshop as I have, there's absolutely no comparison.
Yes, one can noodle around with the existing tools and kind of get there, but it requires a strong working knowledge of color balance variables.
A white balance plug-in has a simple warmer / cooler slider and can adjust white balance in a couple of seconds without skewing basic color components.

  • Why is there only one phone available? Where can I get it?

I arrived at the main site for Firefox by typing www.getfirefox.com in the address bar of my Firefox browser, because I wanted to see if I have the latest version of Firefox. I saw the message that says, "Congratulations, you have the latest version!" Then I saw there is a Firefox OS, so I clicked on that. I eventually followed the link to get a Firefox OS phone, but to no avail. The eBay listing is expired. Yay!
Finally I got to the page that lists, with pictures, the various Firefox OS phones. Only one says it is available, and when I click on that one, to try to get it, I get to a similar page at eBay, where it says the listing has expired. Wow. This doesn't give me a lot of confidence in the security of Firefox. I wonder why it told me that I have the latest version of the Firefox browser installed, when mine is 31.0 and the latest is 33.0.1, and if there is only one Firefox OS device available, and the link on the Firefox site takes me to an expired eBay listing, I don't think I'll be trying to get a Firefox OS device any time soon.
Does anyone here have any suggestions for me?

    Hi Scottelly,
You can update the Firefox browser in your computer by following these steps:
    * [[Update Firefox to the latest version]]
Regarding Firefox OS, it's a mobile operating system that is available on phones around the world. Here are all the devices currently available (please keep in mind that some of these devices are only available in some countries):
    * [https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/os/devices/ Firefox OS devices]
There is also the Flame Reference Device available for purchase, which is recommended for developers wishing to create applications or develop for Firefox OS:

If you have issues finding a phone, or with a link pointing to an expired Ebay listing, please let us know so that we can investigate.
I hope you find this information useful. Please let us know if you have any questions.

  • Is there a way to add multiple borders to a single cell with one click or do I have to add one border at a time for example, one cell with borders on three sides?

I would like to know if there is a way to add multiple borders to a single cell or selection of cells in one click.  At this time, if i want to add for example a top border and a bottom border to a single cell I have to do this in two steps: first select the top border, style, thickness, and color, and then next select the bottom border, style, thickness, and color.  Is there a way to select the top and bottom border of a cell in one click?  Clicking on the top border then holding down the command key while selecting the bottom border does not work, nor does holding down the option key, the control key, or the shift key work. Thanks for your help.

Thank you for the suggestion but this did not work for my Mac.  When a cell is selected for which I want borders, the entire cell is lit up.  Then when I go to the border tool and select style, thickness, and color, the entire lit up cell takes on the border, that is the Outside Edges of the cell now have a border.  So selecting the style, thickness, and color first doesn't work.
If I select the top border first (or any border), the drop down goes away and I can't select multiple borders - I get to choose one at a time.  After selecting one border, style, thickness, and color, said border is now on the spreadsheet.  Then I go back to the border selection and pick another border and the the previously selected style, thickness, and color reverts to null, so I start over with the new border style, thickness, and color.  Yes, it is tedious.
The Fix would allow the user to select multiple borders, say left and right, before the drop down goes away after selecting only one border
Does it have something to do with Allow or Disallow border selection?
    I have Numbers '09 version 2.1 (436)

No you just need to turn on Tap to Click. Go into System Preferences - Trackpad and click the Point to Click tab and select the first box which will say Tap to Click and you should be in business.
