Is there a patch for Word? My new macbook air keeps freezing up on me when I use Word.

I have a new macbook air with Osx 10.7.2 and it freezes on me regularly. It has frozen on me 4 times within the last hour of trying to work on a word docuement with i try to insert anyting into the document the only fix is to manually reboot by holding down the on/off button. I am not a happy camper at this point and am wondering if there is an upadate or a patch to fix these freezes!?

I had the same issue last year.  it turned out to be my Bluetooth earpiece reached the end of its battery life.
When I got a replacement the problem went away.

  • My new MacBook Air keeps shutting down the screen while I use it

My new MacBook Air keeps shutting down the screen while I use it and has to be rebooted. I took it in to the Genius desk at my local store, but they couldn't find anything wrong and said that they have never seen this problem before.
I Spoke to the IT support guy at work. He has the same problem with his new MacBook, but not with his older one. He suggested that it is a software issue with all new MacBooks and is connected to the timing of it going into sleep mode. Does anybody have a solution? Apple doesn't seem to have one.

    Try a SMC reset.

  • Safari on my new macbook air keeps freezing. I think I might have deleted something when migrating from my old macbook. Any ideas what it would be?

    Hi All
I have recently purchased a new macbook air. I used the migration software to transfer everything from my old macbook to the new one. I had lots of crap on the computer, so went through and deleted lots of applications and documents from the new macbook air. Now I've gone to use safari and it keeps freezing once I leave the home page, or one click afterwards.
I'm worried I accidentally deleted something I need to run safari. I followed the instructions on the support website to check my "library" for internet plug-ins etc, but there wasn't anything in those folders.
Any ideas on how to fix this or how to check what I need to run safari properly are most appreciated!

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up guest users” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.  The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • My new Macbook Air keeps freezing from time to time.

I have a 2 month old 256GB Macbook Air. I still have 140GB free. Yet, my screen freezes from time to time. I don't know what the problem is. Is it with the software or hardware? How do I correct it?

I'm assuming you are running Mavericks. Older versions of OS X have a slightly different interface.
    Open Activity Monitor in Applications/Utilities.
    Select Memory tab.
Monitor your memory pressure (bottom middle window) when you are having problems.
    Green is good
Amber or yellow means that memory resources are getting low.
Red means you’re almost out of memory or it’s completely full.
See this link for more info: http://www.switchingtomac.com/tutorials/osx/understanding-memory-pressure-in-os- x-mavericks/
If your memory is all green then check CPU.
Sort on the CPU tab at the top. This will show you what app is using the most CPU.
You might find you need to quit other apps while watching videos.

I have a new macbook air, and want to transfer all my data using time machine from my old macbook running leopard, is this possible and easy and will it transfer all my musc and photos?

The Setup Assistant can restore your data from a Time Machine backup. You'll be asked if you want to do this the first time you turn the computer on.

  • Is there a way to connect the new MacBook Air to an audio interface that only has FireWire 400 input?

I recently acquired the new MacBook Air for my performance rig and have discovered that there is no way to connect it to either of my audio interfaces [both have FireWire 400 ports only.  Is there an adaptor for this?  I can't seem to find one.

Later on this month, both Belkin and Sonnet have indicated that they will have means to adapt the Thunderbolt port to the Firewire 800 interface.
Sonnet's solution will be an simple adapter, while Belkins will be a more full featured dock, with a few ports, including USB 3.0
There is no indication what the price of either will be, but both of them should provide a relatively easy means to then adapt to Firewire 400, as such cable adapters are already readily available at a nominal price.
Apple has the Sonnet adapter mentioned on their website, so it may be likely that the Apple online store will be carrying them when they become available.
As far as an adapter from USB 2.0 to Firewire, there have been only a scant few adapters available in the past, and all that I have seen were propretary in nature, only usable for the particular device they were fashioned for. I have not seen any that were usable in a general sense. Look at the reviews of any such products you might find in this regard. You will find no satisfied users.

  • Video Output for Musical on new Macbook Air

Doing first production of a musical.
I'm thinking of buying Logic Pro 9 to control the output of recorded audio and video for the show (as well as to compose a few extra pieces).
The features page on the Apple site says: Logic can let you view synchronized QuickTime movies on a separate monitor using output options like Digital Cinema Desktop.
    http://www.apple.com/logicpro/top-features/
The Tech Specs page on the Apple site says: External video output via FireWire or DVCPRO HD.
    http://www.apple.com/se/logicpro/specs/
I've bought a brand spanking new Macbook Air which has a Thunderbolt and two USB ports.
Would I be able to use Logic on my Macbook Air to output my video?  (I was thinking I would do it to a projector either through WiFi or a (yellow) composite cable.)
(The alternative I was thinking of was to use MuseScore to enter the notation for the extra pieces.  Garageband for the audio output (it's missing a few instruments [e.g. clarinet, xylophone]) and plain old Quicktime for the video output.
    Thanks!
    John

    Have you contacted AppleCare?
The subject of your topic has been discussed quite a bit in these forums. The user-user solutions have been edited out of some of the discussions, ostensibly because sharing copyrighted materials, such as a useable MBA special Build of OS X 10.7 Build 11A2063, is prohibited. Many have found that this particular build is not available for download from Apple, via the Internet Recovery or the Apple Store. I would think that it is due to change at any time, and perhaps has been done already. AppleCare should be able to provide that information sooner than anyone here.

  • Brand New MacBook Pro keeps freezing

I have had my brand new MacBook Pro for about four months now and out of the blue, it will freeze up for about a minute or so randomly with no warning. I have run Disk Utility already along with restarting it, but it still freezes. Any ideas on to what is causing it?
    Thanks!
    Dave

Impossible to say without any information. You may want to keep Activity Monitor open (Applications-Utilities-Activity Monitor) and see if there is anything that uses a lot of % CPU and/or RAM. Check to see how much free RAM you have, if it's below 500MB that could be a problem, it simply means you are using all the available RAM.
Your machine is covered by the warranty too, so you may want to visit your local Apple Store and have a Genius look it over.
BTW when posting a problem, please let us know exactly what you are doing when the problem occurs, including what apps, version numbers etc. and specifics about your computer. Something like, "Yesterday afternoon and this morning while using Excel (Office 2011) on my 2010 15" MBP with 4GB RAM and 500GB HD my system......" That way we have the who, what and when.

  • My new macbook air keeps totally locking up

You can't do anything at all, completely unresponsive.  It doesn't even seem to be shutting off when you close the computer.  You open it and it's still just the frozen screen.  The first time this happened was in the middle of a law school exam (thanks Apple!).  Is this a common problem for the air?  I'm guessing it will be nearly impossible to recreate in the apple store for the geniuses since it only happens once every few days, but it is still totally unacceptable.  Any suggestions or anyone else had this problem?

I had the same problem a couple of times. The Applecare people walked me through clearing the caches and then emptying the trash (after rebooting into safe mode). That seems to fix the problem for a while, although I had the lockup experience again today when I waked the Air from sleep.
    Your mileage may vary.

  • New Macbook Air keeps restarting from Sleep.

    Hi all,
    Hope you can help.

    Hello robsone88,
It sounds like you are getting this Kernel Panic when your computer goes to sleep. I recommend startign by performing a Disk Verification, and repair with the following article:
Disk Utility 12.x: Repair a disk
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH5836
Print this help page so you can refer to it later. (You don’t have access to Disk Utility Help when you restart up your computer in the next step.)In the Disk Utility Help window, choose Print from the Action pop-up menu (looks like a gear).
Choose Apple menu > Restart. Hold down the Command (⌘) and R keys as your computer restarts. When you see a white screen with an Apple logo in the middle, you can release the keys.
Click Disk Utility, and then click Continue.
In the list at the left, select the item you want to repair. (Be sure to select an item that’s indented to the right in the list, not an item at the far left.)
    Click First Aid.
If Disk Utility tells you the disk is about to fail, back it up and replace it. You can’t repair it.
Click Repair Disk.If Disk Utility reports that the disk appears to be OK or has been repaired, you’re done. Otherwise, you may need to do one of the following steps.
If Disk Utility reports “overlapped extent allocation” errors, two or more files occupy the same space on your disk, and at least one of them is likely to be corrupted. Check each file in the list of affected files. If you can replace a file or recreate it, delete it. If it contains information you need, open it and examine its data to make sure it hasn’t been corrupted. (Most of the files in the list have aliases in a DamagedFiles folder at the top level of your disk.)
If Disk Utility can’t repair your disk or it reports “The underlying task reported failure,” try to repair the disk or partition again. If that doesn’t work, back up as much of your data as possible, reformat the disk, reinstall Mac OS X, and then restore your backed-up data.If you continue to have problems with your disk, it may be physically damaged and need to be replaced.
If the issue persists, I would next take a look at the following article to help you troubleshoot kernel panics, and unexpected restarts named:
OS X: When your computer spontaneously restarts or displays "Your computer restarted because of a problem."

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Why does my new macbook air keep crashing i.c.w. Time Capsule!!!?

I bought my new MBA 11" @ the apple store eaton centre in Toronto. Since my purchase i dec 2010 the MBA crashed often but i thought this was normal (once a week).
Now i connected a brand new Time Capsule & Airport Express (bought @ apple.com) and now it crashes every 30 minutes!!!
--when i try to copy data to the time capsule it crashes after 1,5 gb.
--when i'm listening music via Airport Express the MBA crashes after 20 minutes.
I get a ' filter'  over my screen with in several languages that i need to reboot....
I tried to get support at Apple (via phone) but the suggested that i should visit iCentre (in Ede, The Netherlands were i live).
They took my Apple in repair. Got it for over a week and then they told me that the had run some test and that there was nothing wrong... The invoice was euro 79,-!
...At home i tried to copy files to my Time Capsule and the machine crashes again.... (nothing wrong???)
Why can't i get normal support on this expensive machines....!!!???

Backing up other Ethernet doesn't prevent access via Wi-Fi.
If the Time Capsule creating a wireless network?  If not, you'll need to configure it to do so in order to allow the MBA to connect to it.  If it does, can you connect the MBA to the Time Capsule's network?
Depending on the amount of data you want to transfer, using a USB-to-Ethernet adapter would help things run faster.

  • New Macbook pro keeps freezing and acting up?

I just got my nre 13in macbook pro last thursday (June14) and since then it was froze thrice. One was when I was downloading a game demo, and two more times when I was trying to watch a movie online. The whole system just froze each time, and I had to force shut down by holding down the power button then powering it back up. Then most recently, when I was on a skype call, the whole screen just blacked out, and my call was dropped etc, and it turned back on by itself after 10-20 seconds. I'm new to this whole mac thing, is there anything I should do? Or well, what should I do?

How much RAM do you have? Are you running off battery or by MagSafe...?
What is forgotten is that OSX is based on UNIX server, well all UNIX can act as a server but if it has a lot of App open it will like Windows use the disk space for virtual memory and this too can topple OSX. If you have a slow internal drive that will most certainly make for these problems.
I'd make sure that all but a few Apps are running. I'd also reboot your WiFi router, unplug it from the wall and the cable or ADSL modem and disconnect the modems from the connection too. Then after tne minutes reconnect them all. Also if it's cable call the company and have them remote reboot your modem too.
Aside from that you might have a rare MB problem, try zapping the PRAM.....
Failing that if you have just bought it take it ASAP to the Genius bar and get some help. Apple customer care is what makes Apple the best company to buy from. I'm not too fond of the design leading function but Apple care is wonderful and you should go to your local store. Do this while your computer can still be returned: it means they will exchange you computer if there is a hardware problem rather than make you wait for a repair....go now!:)
And you are not alone despite anyone telling you this never happens to Apple products. I've had this problem more than once and Apple took care of it.
Try rebooting and just running one App before you take it into the apple store. Good luck!

  • My new macbook pro keeps freezing to the point where I have to force turn it off.

I got it a month ago from apple, and have not downloaded any apps or music onto it. What should I do?
