Is there a play all button?

if i add 3 projects to idvd to burn on the same dvd is there a play all button that will play all the clips without going back to the menu after each clip?

Hi
*Play all resp one chapter at a time*
Play All Button
1. There are NO - Play All - button in any version of iDVD
2. It can be faked in several ways
• Easies and most fault proof way is to make a doublet movie containing All and with
Chapters set to match. It will take up x2 space but is easy to understand and produce.
• It's said that one can put all movies into a Photo/SlideShow and this will also
give the function of a Play All button - Never tested though.

You might be able to get close to what you want by using a slideshow in iDVD. (It's not widely known, but you can put videos in a slideshow.) If you set the slide duration to manual, playback will pause after each movie/slide, and you can continue with the 'next' button.
3. Using another program to do this eg. Roxio Toast™ where there ia a Play All button option.

  • DVD "Play All" Button Only Works for Two Clips

I have Castle Season 1 on my computer and thought it would be nice to create a DVD of all of them.  I have a "Play All" button and an "Episodes" Button.  Both seem to be registered as a button (Havn't linked the "Episodes" button yet)... I'm hoping to get the "Play All" button to do just that, play all of the episodes in a row, and to do that I have them linked by end action in a row with the last one going to the 'Last Menu'.  It works for the first two episodes and then when I click the next chapter button (In the built in DVD 'emulator') after the second episode it goes back to the menu.  To see if there was a difference in settings I switch between the first and second episodes to detect any setting changes, and there were none (Except the end action was set to different episodes).  I am at a loss on what is wrong.
If screenshots or settings need to be posted just let me know, and I would be happy to post them.

Glad that Playlist worked for you.
1.) The buttons don't animate when selected.  On a DVD player, there would be no way to tell the difference on what I had selected, is there any way to remedy that?
In the Menu Editing Panel>Properties>Motion area, you can check Animate Buttons. This will show the Thumbnails as animations.
For telling the user which Button has been navigated to, one uses Sub-picture Highlights, which are only 2-bit color. Are you using a Library Menu? If so, which one? If it's a Library Menu, the Buttons should have the Sub-picture Highlights Layer in each Buttons Layer Set. If you created the Menu from scratch, did you add a Sub-picture Highlight?
2.) I want to add a video clip that will blend into the main menu, how would I go about doing that?
I do this often. First, I will go into Photoshop, and make a Flattened copy of my Menu, with the Sub-picture Highlight that the user will see (see above), visible. This will then be used in PrPro, as a Freeze Frame. In PrPro, I create the Video file that I want, and at the end, just add that Flattened PSD "Freeze Frame" from the actual Menu. This next part takes just a touch of math, but hang in there with me. We want a seamless transition from that Video to the Menu, so will use a Cross-Dissolve Transition between the Video on the Timeline and the Freeze Frame. We need to set the Duration of that Freeze Frame to just slightly longer than one-half of the Duration of that Cross-Dissolve. All we want is for the full Freeze Frame to be on-screen for a couple of Frames, as the Buttons will be dissolving in, and we do not want the user to begin pressing them yet, as they are NOT real Buttons, but just a graphic of the Buttons. I leave ~ 3 Frames, past the Transition. Remember, when you create that Freeze Frame in Photoshop, you want to make sure that the default Button's Sub-picture Highlight is exactly as the user will see it, when the real Menu comes up.
Export this Video (w/ that Freeze Frame at the end) from PrPro, as say a DV-AVI, and Import it into En as a Timeline. Set that Timeline to First Play, and its End Action to go to your real Menu.
3.) My C:// Drive is very small (60GB) as its just a boot drive SSD.
-3a.) Can I delete the cache without harming my saved encore file? (I only have 1GB left, and my system keeps acting up because of it)
-3b.) Is there a way to set the media cache to a different drive (I have three, and since using After Effects/Encore/Premiere the free space is shrinking at an alarming rate )?
This is a bit tricky. Do you ONLY have the one physical SSD? If so, you will seriously want to look into adding more. You can clear the Media Cache files (do not Delete the folders though), however, En will recreate them, when you begin working on the Project. HDD's are cheap, and for Video editing and authoring HDD real estate is very important. If you have more than the one SSD drive, please give us the full details of your HDD's, and how you are using them.

  • Is there a 'Play All' option for DVD menu?

    Hi,
I was hoping someone can possibly help here... I have created a DVD menu in iDVD with 8 separate movie items each with their own button (with underlined feature), but with no sub menus or additional pages.
Incidentally, these items are home movies, transfered from old Hi8 tapes, edited in iMovie then added to iDVD.
The 8 items have all successfully loaded to the iDVD menu and will play when each item is selected (in test mode).
However, I was hoping to also add a 'Play All' button so that the whole DVD content can be played as one continuous piece if required, rather than being limited to being able to play only individual items at a time and then having to return to the menu page in order to select the next item.
Please can anyone offer any help here? I'm very new to Macs/iDVD etc so simple, basic guidance would be much appreciated!!!
    Many thanks,
    Robin-UK

    Hi Robin
Welcome to apple discussions. I use Toast (personal choice only) in this situation since it has a play all check box. But then you don't get the fancy menus.
There is no such check box within iDvd for selecting play all but you can set up iDvd's preferences to address scene selection menus when a movie/s is added. And here's how you do that:
A second option might involve adding the 8 separate movies to the slideshow feature within iDvd for continuous play. And yes you can add photos as well as movies to idvd's slideshow feature with a number of added benefits which I won't go into here. But if you want more info on this procedure just look at a few of Old Toad's prior posts / replies on this iDvd forum.

  • PLAY ALL button

I have a DVD SP4 project of about 3. Gb in total and the client needs a 'PLAY ALL' button. The video has 8 existing chapters and adding a play all has been impossible to date. I can't replicate the track as it's too large for the disc. Any ideas?

    Use stories or a script
If there is 8 chapters, use markers 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 for the Play All Story. Some discussions with variations on the theme below which will give you the details you need.

  • Multiple Play all Buttons

I have a program with 5 videos. There is a main menu with a program seecton and play all buttons. Each video has a sub menu with a play all which is linked to a story to play all chapters for that video, as well as individual chapter buttons
Tha main menu play all button is linked to a series of scripts to play all 5 programs. basically mov GPRM 0,1 Jump to the first story then each story has a script for the end action: 1. Jump to next track if (GPRM 0=1) 2. Jump to appropriate menu. The play all script works fine however if the user were to hit the menu button during play all and then dive down to the sub menus the GPRM does not get set back to 0. Consequently when the Play all button for program 1 gets activated and it's story gets launched, the end script will see the GPRM as 1 and continue playing instead of returning to the appropriate menu.
Not sure how to solve this...Anyone?
    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.2)   2.5 GB RAM

Just want to make sure I got this straight
1.) There is a Main Menu
    2.) There are 5 tracks
3.) Each of the 5 tracks have there own "sub menu" which can access the chapters for the respective track and a play all for just its track
4.) What is the program section, do you mean you can program the tracks to play back in the order you want?
As to the play all issue, one easy way to do that is to set up a story in each track called PlayAll_Track1, etc. just to make it easier to follow (these series of stories will call stories for each ENTIRE track) and then set to jump to the next
For instance Story (call it PlayAllFromMainMenu_Track1 to make it a bit eaiser to follow) would be called from the Main Menu/Play All Button and play from the beginning of Track 1 to the End of Track 1 [when you set up the story]
The End Jump for PlayAllFromMainMenu_Track1 would be PlayAllFromMainMenu_Track2 , etc. and you can set the menu jumps in the applicable story where you would like it to go when someone presses menu.
You then also set up other stories the same way, but instead of PlayAllFromMainMenu_Track1
The Story would be JUST the track being targeted from its related sub menu, and set End Jump and Menu controls for that story to its related sub menu.

  • Creating a 'Play All' button which will play individual tracks

I've created a DVD with a main menu with connections to three sub menus which each have several separate tracks, each with their own individual buttons. The tracks do not have chapters. I would like to make a 'play all' button on each sub menu, so that all the tracks play one after another. I have tried it in a 'story' but found I can't link separate tracks--that seems to only be for linking chapters within the same track.
I am already at 4.6 GB on a DVD 5 so I was hoping not to have to recreate another track with all of the movies in one... then I think I would have to jump up to a DVD 9. ... or...? Anyone have any info?

The easiest way to do this is as Eric said - create one track and put ALL your clips into it, delete the other tracks. You'll need to set chapter markers up, and use stories to play the different sections on their own, but you can then make a simple play all scenario.
If you really don't want to do that, you'll need to script this. The model to have in your head is that when you use the 'play all' button you set 'flag'. The first track plays and at the end the jump goes to a short script that looks to see if the 'flag' is in place - if it is you jump to the next track. If not, you go back to the menu. This continues for every track you need to include - each end jump goes to a short script which looks for the 'flag'.
the 'flag' is simply a value that you put into a memory slot. You have got 8 memory slots to play with, called 'GPRMs' (General Parameter Register Memory). They are sometimes called variables.
As with almost everything else in DVDSP, there are several ways to create this scripted solution. One way is here:
    http://www.dvdstudiopro.co.uk/tutorials/play-all-1/
It has a set of sample files to download and explore. The thing to remember is that the sample layouts are not intended to be used for a real project, only prove the concept. A couple of additional things need to be done to make them suitable for full production.
If you are comfortable with scripting in general, a slightly more complex solution is here:
    http://www.dvdstudiopro.co.uk/tutorials/play-all-3/
This last one uses just three scripts, and makes use of the internal numbering system to identify which track and menu you were just on, or going back to. Three scripts is simple, but the detail of the scripts is a little more complex! Once again, these are just examples and in order to use this particular sample layout a couple of other things need to be added to ensure it will work in a production disc. All very simple to do, of course.

  • DVD Play all button

I've been making a DVD with iDVD, and found that a play all button wasn't an option. I want the option of chapters, but still want to be able to play all. What DVD software has an easy option of play all?

  • Scripting Play All Button Question

Is there a way when I script a play all button, that at the end of playing each track individually, the button for the follow track is highlighted?
    Thanks.

    Eric,
There are several ways to optimize Play All through different aspect clips, depending on the project type.
One method is to conform the assets - though, this depends on the ratio of 4:3 to wide footage, and other factors - if you only have a couple of 4:3 assets, then you can make them wide (black on either side), and nestle them in with all the other wide clips in a single Track. You could also put them in another Track by themselves (still make them wide, and set for Pan and Scan - not failing to stripe the mpeg assets with the P&S centering vectors with John Brisbin's "Mpeg Append Force Pan and Scan"; that way the footage displays properly pillar bar'd on 16:9 TVs and full-screen on 4:3 TVs).
If you have more or less equal number of different footage aspects, you can order your 'Play All' sequence to play through all the Wide Footage in one Track first and then jump to the other Track with all the 4:3 footage lined up in there (prepared for wide and set for Pan and Scan, as outlined above, so the clips aren't stretched out when presented on wide displays), and play them all the way through. I do have a procedure I use to make the jump from the first Track to the second super compatible with even marginal players, which prevents the back and forth jump.
There are other ways, as well; again, depending on project parameters (and of course, wether Hal "got to 'em first" and had them script the twenty separate Tracks for Play All! ).
Heck, *you don't even need a single script to set a project up to Play All through 20 Tracks (or any supported number), and then to have those same Tracks be switched to single play mode for targeting from their respective buttons on the menu. Zero scripts.* Play 20 Tracks in the order you define, or singly play any of the same 20 Tracks and return to the menu and proper button. But it's still better to put all the clips in a single Track and go with Stories.
I have a start of an article on this whole question, and hopefully I'll be able to post it soon. My SPRM table I mentioned in another thread was delayed because of the games in NY (I'm based in Philly :- ), that will be up by Monday (feels good saying it!).
Oh, and one correction to my reply above; When I said a Track is an entire 'Video Title Set Menu Domain', while true, all Tracks and Slideshows include such a structure; I should have said a Track is an entire 'Video Title Set'. It was late (that's my story, and I'm sticking to it :- )

  • How do I get a "PLAY ALL" button on the main screen for iDVD?

I spent a lot of time creating a DVD with pictures and music, and the main screen when I play the DVD shows all of the different scenes, but when I click on one of the scenes, it won't continue to the next one. I have to individually plan every scene in order to watch the whole DVD, rather than just clicking on the first scene and letting it play through. How do I make it so that I can either create another button that will play the whole DVD through or make it so that it continues to the next scene after the previous one is finished??

You can't create a 'play all' button with iDVD. All your separate scenes are separate movies as far as iDVD is concerned. You need to assemble all you separate scenes into one movie in iMovie and then insert chapter markers if you want separate entry points.
Apple's pro DVDSP does let you link movies to obtain a play all function.

  • Play All Button - (I already searched the historical posts)

    Hello group,
Yes, I have searched high and low in this forum and everywhere else for the answer to my question.
I'm using iDVD 08. I have made a DVD with about 30 home video clips. I want to create a "Play All" button so that instead of navigating individually to each clip, they can click the "Play All" button and have each clip play in sequence.

You can import all of your movies into iMovie HD6. Add music, effects, etc, as desired. Add a chapter marker to the beginning of each clip. Once the project is finished in iMovie, close the application and open iDVD. Select your theme and import your iMovie project. You will then see in the main window that you have a choice to "play movie", which will play from start to finish, or "scene selection", which will allow you to choose which part you wish to view.
If you do not have it, iMovie HD6 is available as a free download. Use this link.

    I hope this helps.

  • Creating play all button

    Hi,
Took a quick look at the help regarding creating a "play all" button from 6 separate chapters. I did not find if this can be done. Any idea's?
I have not played with chapter markers - perhaps this is what I need to do - if so I'll have to recreate the seperate chapters or movies in to 1 then add chapter markers. (If I read this right that is what may work).
    Thanks
    Bill

There is no 'Play All' option in iDVD.
You need to merge your 6 clips into one movie in iMovie HD 6 - NOT iMovie '08 - and create chapter markers.

  • Is there a "play-all" type feature?

Hi...I'm making my first DVD with iDVD and I was wondering if there is a way to have a "play-all" option. Basically, I have a bunch of small video clips in a sub-menu that I would like to have the option of viewing individually or all in a continuous mode, similar to what you would see on a movie's special features.
I have searched and know that you can "loop" videos together, but it looks like if you do this, then you don't have the option of playing them individually. Is there a way to create an optional "play all" feature?
Any info would be great. Thanks!

Not as you are describing, but you can do a work around. Move your clips into imovie and create a continous movie.During the process add in chapter markers between your clips. Then share the project to idvd. You will get a play movie (to play the entire movie and a scene selection menu that will have your individual movies in it. You can then rename the play movie and scene selection buttons to whatever you want. Or, you can click on folder icon at the bottom of the screen and move the clips around.
