Is there a problem or bug in locking video clips together?

Hi, I have 3 movie tracks masked with one track underneath all 3 for a total of 4 movie tracks. I seem to be having a problem locking down the 4 video layers so things "added" into my masks match up with the main video track outside the mask(s). I've tried using guides and grids and when I get the center point circular X on the yellow t-bar for all 4 lined up, I click on these 4 tracks and use the object lock feature (in the object menu), but it doesn't seem to "lock" for the duration of my entire edit, which is about 2000 frames.
Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Hi Kim,
There have never been any reports of bugs or problems with our serial communication VI's with the specific ASCII character "i". Also no reports about that character in general.
1. All the serial VI's are based on VISA, so you can always make sure that you have the latest VISA driver from our website:
http://digital.ni.com/softlib.nsf/webcategories/85256410006C055586256BBB002C0E91?opendocument&node=132060_US
2.You say that you have version 6.0? Did you install the 6.0.2 patch? If not, that would be a good idea too. There were some problems with String and Array functions that got fixed.
Download the patch from this link:
http://digital.ni.com/softlib.nsf/websearch/168AAE428563A9E8862569EC005C5856?OpenDocument&node=132070_US
3. What do yo
u mean with "the serial ASCII output is giving you problems"? What kind of problems? What do you mean with bad lookup? What LabVIEW functions do you use? You need to be more specific.
4. If this is a serial issue,.. Do you have the same problem when doing a serial loopback test with the letter i? Try with the specific ASCII code or just with a normal string.
5. Can you attach a little program that reproduces the problem on your MAC? Please also send specific information about your OS, installed software,...
Regards.

  • Locking Video Clips

IS there a way to lock video clips so that - at all costs - they stay in the same place? I've been trying to edit this video and every time I mess with a clip EVERYTHING after it gets moved all over the place. This is a music video project so syncing it up is important and time consuming.
I found a way to lock an audio clip but that doesn't seem to help me - I need to make certain video clips unmovable.
    I've searched but no cigar.

    Welcome to iMovie Discussions!
    No.
"..This is a music video project so syncing it up is important and time consuming.." ..Absolutely!
You may need to create spare lengths of, say, just black nothingness, to drop these into the slots where chunks of your movie get removed or moved around ..create them as 'placeholders', and also create Bookmarks, to make it easy to jump back and forth to particular spots while you're editing, and to sync things up - then delete all the Bookmarks before sending to iDVD, if that's your destination.
Be aware that every Transition (..except 'Overlap'..) will 'eat into' and use up its duration from the tail end of a clip AND from the head of the following clip, so a 3 second transition will effectively remove 3 seconds from the head of the incoming clip, placing it over the last 3 secs of the outgoing clip. This will mess up your timings.
So every time you add a transition, all your timing and sync'ing will go wrong unless you allow for the duration of every transition before applying it.
Straight cuts won't affect any timing, nor will an 'Overlap' ..but everything else will.
So always allow an extra length to every clip to be 'eaten away' during transitions, then always Extract your audio before applying any transitions. This keeps the audio at its original duration, on its own track, and lets you do whatever you want to the video without affecting the audio.
Try doing just one short 'practice' video before doing the real thing, to see how the timing slides around, just as a preparation.
But no: I'm not aware that you can 'Lock' a clip to a particular point in time - e.g; at, say, 01min:35secs:20frames - and then drag your other clips around that one to build material ahead of and behind it. You'll need "filler" clip(s) preceding it to 'lock' it at that pre-determined point, and the lengths of those "fillers" will change if you apply transitions to them.
Only the Final Cut programs "work backwards" by trying to use any unwanted material at the head and tail of clips on which to apply transitions ..thereby keeping the actual wanted portions of those clips unaffected.
Sync'ing is easier with Final Cut Express and Pro ..but you learn so much more (..and it's more fun, too!..) by doing it the hard way with the cheaper and 'simpler' iMovie! ..Possibly!

  • Problems with Metadata Set and video clip size... I think....

Ok, I can't figure this one out... any help would be much appreciated.
    Background:
I started server using the Video Production default customer profile. Then I created a few new metadata Sets including one called Finished Programs which is a media asset.
    Problem:
When I upload a video clip and select the Finished Programs metadata set it always changes to the Media metadata set. Now this only happens when I have used MPEG Streamclip to take the video off of a DVD. If I upload a clip (mov) file that I used in Final Cut Pro it works fine.
My settings in MPEG StreamClip are Apple DV/DVCPRO-NTSC 720x480 Interlaced Scaling and Reinterlaced Chroma.
If I upload two clips at the same time and select Finished Programs metadata set, one that I used MPEG StreamClip and one that I digitized into FCP, it will place two clips in FCPserver, one with the Finished Programs and one with the Media Set.
Any ideas on how to fix this????

Could be. If it's not the metadata it must be something else. You would have to figure it out by trial and error. Maybe you should try giving it the highest priority and maybe turn off all automated scans and see if it works then. just to make sure that nothing intervenes with the process while it is going on and see if you can get it to run fully and see what the outcome is then.
I have files over 1 GB that get attached to the right medadataset. I have failures on thumbnail creation to, but FCSvr then starts the same job over and over till it succeeds.
I have never user MPEG Streamclip clips in FCSvr. Hopefully somebody else has and could share their experiences.

Can anyone please help me, I'm having problems with sound while watching video clips using flash player & Internet Explorer

There's a good chance that this is a known issue.  We'll have a Flash Player 18 beta later this week that should resolve this at http://www.adobe.com/go/flashplayerbeta/

Which Mac OS X is installed.
Troubleshooting advice can depend on that information.
Without seeing a video, tell us exactly what happens when you startup your Mac?

  • Is there a way to create playlist of video clips?

I use video clips extensively in presentations and workshops.  I have dozens of places in movies that I own in iTunes where I want to play 30 seconds to a minute of a movie as an example of a behavior or situation.  I manage this now with a manual list with the title, start place and how long to let it run.
The problem is that this is a carbon based system.  I have to keep my movies queued to that place or remember to put it back there after I use it or watch the movie- something that is 50/50 at best.  I would love a way to either tell itunes or to find a 3rd part program that I could create a "playlist" of titles with start and stop times so that I could just queue them based on the topic for the day.  Not worried about IP rights here- this is not a commercial showing for money.
    Ideas anyone?
    Thanks

  • Locking video clip to audio track?

I have a bunch of video clips in my sequence. A couple of the clips I want at certain points of the audio track and I dont want them to move but when I ripple delete video clips in fron of them it shifts the clips back (moving them away from the specific spot on the audio track). Is there a way to lock a video clip to a certain part of the audio?
I tried "grouping" the video clip and the audio but that doesn't seem to work as the video clips still move.

You can't lock a clip, only a track.  Move the desired clips to a higher track and lock that.

  • How can I lock video clips to the timeline?

    Hello Apple discussion.
I know that holding down the command key disable ripping when triming.
But that doesn't work when deleting clips. It would be useful to lock videoclips to the timeline, so they keep their position.
Lock audio to playhead doesn't help the situation.
    Thank you for your time
    Attila

You cannot lock a video clip to the timeline. The program is designed so that when you delete a video clip, the other clips slide over to fill the gap. Otherwise you would have holes all over your project, or have to manually move them over. You would want to lock the audio clips to the non-deleted video clips, so that the audio slides over with them.
If you want to preserve the gap left by a deleted video clip, first insert in front of it a black clip of the same exact duration, and then delete the video clip. The black clip would hold all of the other clips in position, but leave you with a black hole to fill or delete. To make a black clip, separate two video clips on the timeline, and control-click on the empty space. In the resulting drop down menu, select Convert Empty Space to Clip. Then control-click on the black clip and in the resulting window adjust the time duration by overwriting the values in the time box and then clicking the Set button.

  • Locking Movie Clips Together?

I have 50 movie clips containing images. what I need is that
when I drag one movie clip, they all move at the same time and the
same way as if I was moving all of them. I can't put them in a
container movie clip because I need to know their _x and _y
    positions at all time.
    Can anyone help?
    Thank You! :)

at the start of your drag (onPress) assign some variables to
store the initial _x and _y properties of the movieclip being
dragged and initiate a loop (like setInterval() or onEnterFrame).
in the loop adjust each of your other movieclip's _x and _y
properties by the same amount as the change in the dragged
    movieclip's _x and _y properties.
terminate the loop when you stopDrag().

  • Problems exporting files using xFire video clips

    Hi - first time posting.
I recently started using XFire to record videogame footage from my PC. I would then take the clips into Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 and edit them, and now I'm ready to export them so I can re-edit them (because editing with the xfire codec is quite a hassle) and ultimately upload them.
In this particular example, I'm exporting to the HuffYUV format - this is what happens: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_jHBhpl_3G0
This clip is 90 seconds long, exported in the HuffYUV codec, 360x240 (to keep the file size down) - but as you can see, at around 0:54 and then again at 1:15, the video would freeze, rendering the clip unuseable.
I've tried various formats and sizes - I'm trying to export at 1440x960, and I've tried HuffYUV, Lagarith, Raw (No Codec), MicrosoftVideo1, etc - most of them, when I make a 30sec clip, it works fine, but when I make the 90sec clip, most of them would start having the frozen frames at ~2 seconds in, but all the file formats do eventually have a frozen frames.
I've tried converting the xfire video clips BEFORE putting them into Premiere by using Media Coder (not the Adobe one), but the result looks something like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p8LEO3fGSaM&t=0m17s - you can see horizontal interference as well as a lot of jumpy frames
I just got this computer a few months ago - I'm using Windows 8, 64-bit, 16gb of ram.
So, what's happening? What's the best way for me to fix this? Thanks in advance.

The most likely reason is that you are attempting to export a muxed mpeg file. QT will not export sound from such files. QT Mpeg Limitations
This freeware will export to a number of different formats from mpeg with the sound and video intact. Mpeg StreamClip

  • Problem loading and playing samsung videos in elements

Samsung videos will not play in elements

    hibernian
No enough information to help you. Answers will be in the details.
    1. What version of Premiere Elements are you using and on what computer operating system is it running?
    2. What Samsung device is recording your videos that you want to edit in Premiere Elements?
    3. What are the properties of those videos, including video and audio compression, frame size, frame rate, variable frame rate, interlaced or progressive, file extension, and pixel aspect ratio?
    4. What are you or the program setting as the project preset to match the properties of your source media?
    5. Are you getting any error messages associated with "problem loading and playing samsung videos in elements"?
    6. Is there a problem loading and playing both video and audio or just video or just audio?
Let us start here and then we can plan troubleshooting strategy.
    Thank you.

  • Locking Video/audio tracks

I just purchased a new imac and am using imovie08 and am trying to edit (2) video clips together but only use the audio from (1) clip constant throughout my project. Is there a way of doing this?
    Thanks,
    Mike

Is there a way of doing this?
Yes, if the joining of files is not too complex. If they are sequential, simply add one file to the "Project" window after the other, extract ("Command-Shift-Drag") the audio you want to the "Project" window, adjust in/out points as needed and turn down the volume of the original embedded sound tracks. If one file is to be set within the other, then "cut out" the same number of frames from one movie as you intend to insert from the other and then extract, pin, and adjust audio as above.

  • Locking Audio Clips etc

I might be barking up the wrong tree here, but I have this feeling that I'm close to what I want to do, but I'm missing something as it's not quite working as I hoped it would.
Here's what I want to be able to do:
The scenario: I'm interviewing someone about, for example, their classic Harley Davidson Motorbike and during the interview I want the speech to remain throughout the whole movie, but I want to be able to "cut away" to shots of the bike, then come back to the person speaking at the exact right moment using editing in iMovie. How would I do this?
    Thanks

    1. Extract the Audio from the the video clip (Advanced/Extract Audio). You will then have an audio clip on the audio line right below your video clip. Leave it there. The original audio in your video clip will be muted. You will be using the extracted audio clip for your audio.
    2. Split the video clip at the point where you want to insert the photo.
    3. Insert the photo at the point of the split.
    4. Subtract (trim back) a time equal to the duration of your photo from the front portion of the split clip following the photo. (You will need first to turn off Show Clip Volume Levels from the View menu.) Your photo is being substituted in the place of that portion of the video that you are trimming back.
The above procedure will give you a continuous, uninterrupted, voice over for all of the photos that you insert. If you don't want a voice over while the photo is displayed, then just split the video clip without extracting the audio, insert the photo, and after the photo is displayed the the video and the voice will pick up where it left off.

  • Does anyone have problems occasionally with their slide to unlock on iphone 4s with the ios7 update? And do you think there will be a bug fix? Bit worried

    Hi everyone,
I've recently updated my iphone 4s with the ios7 update and there was a bug fix I also downloaded recently but I hadn't noticed anything wrong at the time. I know it's not happened that often today but does anyone have any problems with their 'slide to unlock' button and have to reload their iphone again? Do you think there'll be a bug fix for it? Just worried as it's not old and I have a feeling I shouldn't have bothered with the update at all.

Why would you think it's a bug?  If it were a bug EVERYONE would be having the same issue.
Basics from the user guide are restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as new.

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.
