  • Is there a program similar to HTML Tidy for Mac?

    Hi,
I saw this neat video where you can take plain HTML and convert it into XHTML and it was called HTML Tidy. This was done on a PC. Is there a Mac version?
I've found all these neat templates at www.blogskins.com and they are all in HTML format so am wanting to convert them into XHTML if that is possible.
    Thanks,
    S.

Thanks for the information. This is going to sound
silly but where is the terminal. Think I read
something about this terminal thing before but didn't
    know where to go.
Terminal is one of the programs in your Utilities folder. However if you haven't experienced the glories of a Unix terminal previously, it may be easier to find a different way to use Tidy.
    See this Apple link
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/developer/htmltidywidget.html
to Patrick Patoray's HTML Tidy widget that you can sit in Dashboard
    http://www.patrickpatoray.com/index.php?Page=102
The widget may be an easier method.
However I repeat my warning against using XHTML unless you are very familiar with all the little problems that happen when you actually try to use it correctly. XHTML is going to be wonderful ... in a few more years. However at the moment, using XHTML usually signals either you are only providing web pages to Macintosh users, and Firefox and Opera browser users, or else that you want your web page to be treated as an error in an HTML browser.
    Good luck.

    In no particular order,
    LibreOffice (donation-supported)
    NeoOffice (free)
    OpenOffice (free)
In addition to the above I also recommend Apple's Pages ($19.99). I use OpenOffice and Pages and have been completely Microsoft - free for over a year now. Life is better without Microsoft.
Just an FYI John, NeoOffice is no longer free, (but it is cheap at least)

  • Is there a program similair Microsoft publisher

Is there a program in iWork's that will work on my iPad. To create flyers and post cards general marketing/mailing?

First, there is no App that works on the Air and the iPad. The best you might approximate is an app with the same name that provides some similarity of purpose and file type sharing. But they will be two separate products, with control and function geared toward the input interface of that device.
iWorks has Pages, which is a word processing app, and not a typical page layout product, even though some try to stretch the functionality in this regard.
If you want a decent page layout, you can go "budget consumer", like The Print Shop 2, available in the Mac App Store or go professional, like Adobe InDesign. Neither product has a homolog on the iPad.
IMHO, using the iPad for page layout is stretching it's function way past the forte of the device.

  • With IPAD 2 may we use softwares similar to WORD and EXCEL?

with IPAD 2 may we use softwares similar to WORD and EXCEL?

There are a number of apps that are compatible with Office documents. Apple makes iOS versions of their own iWork apps (Pages, Keynote, Numbers) that can be purchased separately. There are also 3rd party combined suites that cost less than the separate Apple apps. Ones often recommended include Documents 2 Go,  Quickoffice and Office2 HD.
If you can accept needing a network connection whenever you want to use the apps and have an Office 365 subscription, Microsoft has just released their Office Mobile app, though it has significant limitations. Or a server-based solution such as CloudOn might be an option for you.

  • Is there a program out there to convert appleworks data to pages data

Is there a program that will convert appleworks date to pages data?

Word Processing documents can be opened directly only in Pages (AppleWorks 6 only).
Draw Documents can be opened directly only in EazyDraw (the more expensive version from their website, not the cheaper one from the Mac App Store, and you will need v4.0 'Retro' not the most recent version) or Intaglio (though this appears not to be able to handle very complex drawings).
Spreadsheets can be opened directly only in Numbers.
Presentations can be opened directly only in Keynote.
To use other programs, or open Painting or Database documents at all, you must export from AppleWorks first.
If you can no longer run AppleWorks you cannot open these document types.

  • Programs such as word doc, excel, powerpoint etc.

    Hi
I am using my new mac book air and I don't know whether it comes with programs such as word, excel, powerpoint and alike. Does my laptop come with a mac versions of the programs above? If so where do I find them?
    Thanks in advance.
    Br, Debora

Ya, as the others mentioned, if it is not on the machine, you have to purchase it seperately.
There are various solutions for office products:
There is Apple's iWork suite, which is essentally a 'copy' of the Microsoft Office products, there is Numbers (Excel), Pages (Word) and Keynote (PowerPoint).
Then there is of course the Microsoft Office for Mac, which is essentially the normal Word, Excel and Power Point that you are used to, just with a MAc 'interface' so it's different to use than the Windows version.
And then there are free office suites as Open Office, Libre Office, and Google Docs.
There are more options, just google for them.
I personally use a mixture between iWork, Microsoft Office for Mac and Google Docs, all others only if it has to be.
    Kind regards, Alex.
Whoever finds spelling errors can keep them. For free! Awesome, right?

    I had this issue. I went to c:\program files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\
I renamed my plugins folder to plugins.old.
It recreated the Plugins folder and all was good again. I have since reinstalled the plugins I've been prompted to install.

  • Is there a program I can use to retrieve corrupted .MOV files, from a HD memory card where some files will open, and others wont?

    Hi,
    I have a Mac OS X version 10.6.8 with a 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 memory.
I have recently shot some still and moving footage on my Cannon EOS 500 D (digital camera) using an AMICOE SD C10 8 GB high speed memory card.
After uploading these photos and movies onto my Mac, I am only able to open about 2/3 of the files that appear on the screen.  In the case of the movie files, I can see a number of the file icons, however about 1/3 of them will not open (I get a message saying that Quicktime does not recognise this file - yet it is a .MOV file. Interestingly I can see a small thumbnail for each of these files that will not open, however I am unable to expand the thumbnail into the larger size) and there are a number of photos that simply do not appear as a file or thumbnail.
Is there a program I can use to retrieve these corrupted .MOV and JPEG files from either my computer or the memory card?
Thank you for your interest in this question.
    Cheers,
    Shaughno.

  • Can I move only my iTunes movies, not my iTunes music, onto a flash drive? And, is there a program (apart from iTunes) that can play movies on MacBook Air?

I have a MacBook Air and I need to free up space...
    1) I have three series of a tv show on my itunes which are taking up loads of memory - see image - I want to move these movie files onto a Flash Drive. However I do not want to move my itunes Music onto the flash drive, only my Movies, and want to keep my music on my hard drive.
    Is this possible?
    2) I have managed to copy the movie files onto the flash drive, however when I tried to play one to check that they were loaded properly it didn't have a program that could run the file (they have copied over in a m4V format). Do the MacBook Air's not have a separate program other than itunes that can play movies? If so, is there a program I can get to solve this problem? I went onto the App Store to see if there was something I could download, but all the apps were for creating DVD's, not simply playing them.
    3) If 1. & 2. questions are solvable, will it then be safe to delete the movies from my itunes?
Thank you so much for any answers posted.
    Best,
    Eloise15.

    Yes

If you can play the movies in iTunes, you should be able to open the movie files using Quicktime, which should already be on your system.  If you have already transferred the files to your flash drive, open the flash drive in Finder, and hold control when you click on the movie file (or right click if you have the enabled) and select Open With Quicktime Player.  This should play the movie directly from the flash drive.
If you want to set all .m4v files to open with Quicktime by just double clicking on the file, you can follow the steps here: http://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/2573/os_x_how_to_change_default_application_to_op en_file_type/
    3) If 1. & 2. questions are solvable, will it then be safe to delete the movies from my itunes?
You can move the TV shows to your flash drive by dragging them from the iTunes window to your flash drive in Finder or the flash drive icon on the desktop.  When you are sure everything is transferred over to your external device, you can delete the movie from iTunes.  I recommend playing the videos from the flash drive first before deleting them in iTunes.
To delete the videos from iTunes, you can highlight them and press the delete key on your keyboard.  In the next prompt, you would want to move it to the trash so that it is deleted from your internal hard drive.
    I hope that helps!

  • For one of our users the option to send a document as attachment has dissapeared in office programs such as word, excel etc

    Hi,
For one of our users the option to send an email as attachment has disappeared in office programs such as word, excel etc
As you can see from the above these are the normal options you expect to see but for the user affected they get the option to send as a Text document, a pdf or an XPS the option to send as a attachment has gone.
I have logged into her PC with my account and it was fine, i have had a look and no one else has reported this throughout the company and looking for answers online has proven fruitless.
Any Ideas on why this option would have changed to only allow the user to send it as text.

    Hi,
The "Send as Attachment" option only works when Outlook and word are installed from the same suite. That is required.
