Is there a protocol for replacing a magsafe dc-in board?

Because if it involves removing the little plastic coating that comes on new electronics then the person who installed mine did not follow it. I'd been having a lot of issues connecting to my charger and it looked like the magnets in my "magsafe" were corroding. My battery life turned to utter garbage and in less than a year it registered over 1500 cycles and needed to be replaced, at my expense..
Today I took another look at it, I was at my witts end. I grabbed some non-magnetic tweesers and attempted to move some of the "corrosion" off of the connector. My laptop was dead and, having ordered replacement dc-in, had nothing to lose. Well! It turns out that there was no corrosion.. it turns out it was dirt building up UNDER the little plastic peice that was left over from a repair job over a year ago.
I don't know if this has contributed to the 1500 charge cycle that forced me out of warranty, but I do know that i'm down 50$ for a new magsafe, another 60 or so for the new charger I bought, and at least a year of frustration.
So if you're having issues charging or keeping your magsafe in, be sure to check that the plastic cover is off...

Thanks for your help.
Unfortunately, I have read these sections over and over without much luck!  The main point of interest is HWORD# which is described as being asserted during a 16-bit access and unasserted during an 8-bit access.  The person who designed the GPIB circuit has tied HWORD# to ground permanently since the bus it is designed to sit on is 16-bit.
However, another interpretation of HWORD# is that it is an extra address line i.e. is A0 of the overall bus (especially as figures A-1 and A-2 show HWORD# as being treated like an address line with the same timings), with cpu A0 being A1 to the TNT5002.  If figures A-1 and A2 had been clearer it would have helped!
As it is at the moment, I have checked that CS# and RD# have the correct timings but only read back zeros from the chip.  So next I might try tying HWORD# low to see if I can at least do 8-bit reads.

  • Protocol for re- installing Dreamweaver CS5 and reconnecting to files

My web site was working fine till I had malware on my computer and had to clean and re install all programs. I re installed CS3 and then my upgrade to CS5. I went to set up site to reconnect files and now cannot connect to FTP or up load photos for this month. I posed this question 2 days ago and no response and no help. Do I need to take it to Spry Framework where I can get a response?
Web site is www.williamshomesteadranch.com  There are 4 pages that are ok and I had to use Filezilla to update them. The other pages will not connect any way to FTP.
    I would really appreciate help!
    Sue

I do have it copied onto an external hard drive and the original is still there. After talking with Adobe today and finding out their tools system is down till Monday, I plan to un install and reinstall and redefine with the original files. They still should have everythin the same. I have never had to re do this in 4 years and did not remember what was supposed to be there. Is there a protocol for reinstalling since I have to do the CS3 first and then the CS5 upgrade?

  • Protocol for using FCP on client's computer?

I'm about to do a job out of country. I can't haul my edit suite through numerous security checks etc. etc. The client has a decent Apple setup, but no Final Cut Studio.
Is there any protocol for using MY FCP Studio on someone else's computer for a limited amount of time? And what might that be?
    Ben

It will work, but the EULA clearly indicates that the computer that FCS2 is installed on MUST be owned by the licensee.

  • Hi how are you i want to replace my iphone 4 with a new one. But i am in Darwin, there is no any apple stores. So where can i send my phone for replacement and how much for that?

Hi how are you i want to replace my iphone 4 with a new one. But i am in Darwin, there is no any apple stores. So where can i send my phone for replacement and how much for that?

Warranty and Support are only valid in the country of origin.  You will need to take the device to whatever country it originally came from.
Apple will not accept shipments from outside the country nor will they return it to an address outside the country.

My macbook fell off the couch and now everything on the display is double and slightly transparent. Is there a fix for this other than getting it replaced?

Only an Apple Store or an authorized Apple Service Provider can determine if a repair is economically justifiable. It may be as simple as a dislodged display cable.

Is there a fix for the explicit lyrics probem yet?

No. However you can turn off iTunes Match on the device, sync the explicit song, then re-enable iTM. Then your iOS device will play the correct version of the song.

  • Procedure for replacing hard drive and transfering data?

I am replacing my original hard drive with a much bigger one. All of my data is backed up using Time Machine. Is there some way for me to transfer data from my old hard drive to my new one using a quick simple method like Migration Assistant rather than doing a restore to my new drive once it is installed?
I have used Migration Assistant many times when buying a new computer and it always works perfectly. I have never done a full computer restore so I am a little worried about that process (needlessly?).

I ALWAYS build my own drive (takes 5 mins). More storage and less money.
    Use FireWire not USB.
USB is packet oriented and data transfer is managed by the CPU, Firewire is a streaming protocol and data transfer is managed by the CPU only to initiate transfer, after that, Firewire handles the rest dropping CPU load to nearly 0%.

  • NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT - What does Apple use for replacement?

I have had 'issues' with my display on my MBP 2.4 since Jan. '08. I've documented this w/ Applecare (so there is a list of reported issues so they can see there's a problem as it's not something I can replicate at the Genius bar). It's still under warranty, but my concern, and question is this...
I'd like it fixed. But, If I bring in my MBP (again) to Apple and let's say they say it is the NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT that's faulty, WHAT WILL THEY REPLACE IT WITH? Another 'faulty' chip? [I realize the whole board has to be replaced]
Is there a definitive answer to what NVIDIA chip Apple would use? I've read that they are using the SAME likely-faulty product. That is not good news. And if NVIDIA has acknowledged the problem, do they have a FIXED Chipset for this model?

My best guess is that the replacement boards also have the faulty chip. The fact that the affected MBP production run all the way to the last ones made (Sep 08) leads me to believe the there is no other option but to use the same video chips. BTW please do not assume that since the nvidia chip is soldered on the logic board that it can't be replaced. These Rev.2 boards could very well be just rebuild ones with the video chip replaced at a central workshop equipped to do such a thing.

  • Is there a way to replace re-sized images?

I have several images (640 x 480) that I have placed into a PDF. When I use the Object TouchUp Tool, (right-click and choose "Place Image...") they come in WAY too big for the layout, so I scale them down to fit. Now, I need to replace those images with new ones (also 640 x 480).
    1) Is there a way to replace the images, (Right-Click on the image to be replaced > "Place Image...") so that the new images are placed at the same dimensions (and hopefully position) as the scaled old images, instead of having them come in HUGE again and manually scaling them down and re-positioning them?
    2) Or, at least, is there a preference dialog somewhere that I can define a specific dimensions for the images to be imported at, regardless of their resolution outside of acrobat.
I realize I could create smaller thumbnails and place those in the PDF instead. However, the person who will be responsible for replacing the images isn't very computer savvy, and it would take longer for them to save thumbnails then to just place the image directly into Acrobat and scale them down.

I want to AVOID scaling the new pictures (and in an ideal world, I'd also like to avoid re-positioning) manually. Example, I have a window sticker PDF for a silver car with 3 pictures in it, a front, rear, and interior. When initially placed into the PDF, the pics (640 x 480)for the car were too big for the layout, so I used the Object TouchUp Tool in Acrobat 8 Pro to scale them down to about 150 px wide and position them correctly. Now, we get a new car in. It's practically the same car, but blue. So, the most efficient way to create a new pdf window sticker for the blue car would be to save a copy of the silver PDF and then just replace the silver pics with blue ones.
Practically every other graphical Adobe program on the planet has a way to "replace" or "update" raster images. In my Acrobat 8 Pro travels, it doesn't seem there is a way to do this. I can "replace" (overwrite) the old silver pictures by selecting a pic with the Object TouchUp Tool, then right-click "Place Image..." This will stick the new blue photo in the same position as the old one. However, it still imports in at the giant 640x480 size, instead of the scaled-down 150 px wide size. So, I still need to manually scale the new blue photo down.
Also, I've tried every combination of SHIFT, ALT, CTRL clicking to try to scale the pic from its center. In other words, if I grab the lower-right handle of the pic, the anchor point for the scale is the upper-left corner of the pic... so scaling it like this throws the pic out of position anyway.
So, if anyone has a way to scale a pic from it's center, instead of the corners, please post it!! Even if I could get a dialog box requiring specific numeric dimensions... that would be preferable to having to re-size and manually nudge and smush the pics around to a rough eyeball location every time I need to make a new window sticker for a car (which is a lot)
    Cheers!

  • Is there a fix for the MBP wireless dropping issue?

I began to experience the Macbook Pro dropping wireless connectivity on my very 1st Apple in 2008.  At the end of the day my machine was replaced with a new Macbook Pro mid 2010.  It appeared to be working just fine until about 2-3 months ago when I started dropping my wireless printer connection.  I searched the internet hoping for a driver update from HP or something from Apple and each time I found something, the problem still existed.  I even thought that by upgrading to Lion would resolve any issues that I have with my MBP wireless connectivity issue.  After upgrading to buying a new router, new printer and upgrading to Lion; the wireless dropping issue still remains unresolved!  I know there are several hundred in not thousands of people who are having the same problem so what are we supposed to do?
When my 1st MBP was replaced in 2010 I had to stop working because I was diagnosed with "Failed Back Surgical Syndrome" and was in the process of applying for disability.  Something in the back of my mind said that I needed to purchase Apple Care for this new replacement however I had used all of my savings & retirement to sustain life for me and my family that there was nothing for Apple Care.  If it weren't for my church and family I am not sure what I would do during the 18 months of no income while waiting for a decision only to receive an appeal until I findly stood in front of an Administrative Law Judge who heard my case and granted me disability.  Besides there was no way I could ask anyone for money to purchase a warranty for a top of the line laptop while the country was falling off an economical cliff.
I broke down and called Apple Support and was told that I qualified for technical assistance regarding the upgrade to Lion a few weeks ago.  The tech on the phone had me run some disk utility tests and had me repair permissions which she said could be the cause of the problem.  I willingly went along with her in hopes that this was indeed the fix.  However, within 10 minutes of hanging up the phone my MBP began to drop it's wireless connection to my new HP printer and also the Internet.  Hence my question above is what I am really looking to have answered!  What is the fix to this problem that so many people are having issues with?  I couldn't afford to purchase Apple Care back in 2010 and I can't afford to purchase a new 2011 machine today if that truly is the fix!
I will be disabled for the remainder of my life and I have grown dependent upon my computer to stay in touch with friends and colleges from work.  I worked for the IT Group at Wynn Resorts and I can say that the type of service Appple is providing it's customers is not what I learned over the past 25 years with Mr. Wynn.  Why can't Apple get the simple concept that it's customers are it's life line and keeps them in business.  I need help and I don't know what to do nor where to turn.  It would be different if Apple acknowledged the issue and said they were working on it however they aren't.  I plead to Apple to help me fix my notebook so I can stay connected to the outside world vs. couped up inside my home.
    Best Regards,
    Scott Leavitt

I am simply lookig for some help not an argument.  I am not an RF specialist however have setup a few wireless networks in my tenure at Wynn Resorts.  I fully agree that wireless networking is an art and a science however the powers that be in Network Land have toughted wireless networking is the easiest and quickest way to get two computers to talk with one another.  As I previously said I have already turned one (1) MBP in for this problem and Apple decided to replace it because they could not fix the problem with my particular MBP.  This MBP was running Leopard when the problems started
I am having a hard time believeing that there are several other devicces in my home that depend on a wireless network to operate and my MBP is the only one having an issue.  I took this a step further and decided to see what would happen if I tried to connect wirelessly via Fusion.  In Windows 7 I am able to print and scan to my hearts content without any issues.  I am able to browse the internet as much as I want.  I close Fusion and try to connect to my printer via wireless and nothing.
In order to get Apple to help do I need to get a Network Analyzer and capture packets when I have these problems?  Out of the 1000 + posts is there a consolidation of which answer is the best?  BTW I am accessing the internet via a wireless connection using Fusion and Windows 7.
In response to Linc's comments, I will look at the router specifications however I did not qualify that these devices are not using the wireless connection at the same time.  Right now I would guess there are maybe two (2) or three (3) at the most that are actively transmitting / receiving information. --  Thanks

  • What's the proper protocol for a reset on my ipod touch 4g?  iOS 6 has totally jacked it up and it will no longer do anything but crash, and won't sync with itunes wirelessly or by cable.

What's the proper protocol for a reset on my ipod touch 4g?  iOS 6 has totally jacked it up and it will no longer do anything but crash, and won't sync with itunes wirelessly or by cable.
It's a 64G ipod touch and was fine till Apple told me to upgrade to ios 6.  Now most of my apps crash, my music won't play and I just get a white screen when I hit Music.
When I try to sync to itunes it acts like it's going to sync and appears to recognize the ipod, but it's grayed out and has an update circle by it that spins for a while until itunes eventually freezes alltogether.  Is there a  way to go back to ios 5 after a erase and reset?

  • I dropped my iphone 4s and the screen quickly went to stripes then to black. After pressing buttons the next day, the phone works, but the charge was totally depleted and the screen shakes. Is there a fix for this?

I dropped my iphone 4s (it had an otterbox-thick case on it at the time of drop) last night and the screen quickly went to different colored stripes then to black. The phone wouldn't work. This morning, I was pressing all the buttons I could-at the same time and the phone turned on with the battery completely depleted. At the time of the drop the phone had 98% charge. I plugged the phone in and began charging, however, the screen shakes. Is there a fix for the shaking of the screen? The phone works otherwise. Unfortunately, I don't have warranty on it and have only had the phone since November.

Obviously your phone was damaged by the fall. Take it in for evaluation, servicing and/or replacement at an Apple store or authorized service provider.
Since it is out of warranty you will, most likely, have to pay.

  • Is there a fix for the 'mute' issue when receiving/makings calls?  I can hear them but they can't hear me..

I've read about this being a common issue with the iPhone 4S, particularly with iOS 5.1.1.  I spoke with someone at apple tech support and did a hard reset - no luck.  She mentioned that replacing the phone was a possible solution but I'd rather use that as a last resort - I haven't heard the greatest things about turn around time with apple's warranty.
Is there a fix for this?  The person on the other end (whether it's an outbound or an inbound call) can't hear me at all.  I can hear everything fine.  Speakerphone works fine.  Facetime works fine.  Checked my mute button, on/off/on/off, no luck.  Checked all my settings and can't figure it out.
    Any ideas?

I ended up getting a new phone, straight through Apple.  I called their technical support and went through all he basics again and they decided to replace it.  Was a pretty quick process - after defaulting and resetting the whole phone (about 2 hours),  I called them back to inform that there was no change, so they set up the order.
I had to give my CC# so they could hold a charge on it (in case I didn't send my old phone bach, which they sent me a pre-posted package to send it in anyway).  Had a brand new iPhone 4S in my hands in 4 days, which was pretty decent.  I had uploaded everything previously to iCloud, so setting up the new phone was a snap.
Only thing I really didn't like was they charged me almost 30 bucks for shipping or processing, or something.  Not so sure that should have been my responsibility after spending so much on a brand new product, only to have to have it warrantied after, like, a month.

  • Is there a fix for a Flash Player compatibility problem?.

My computer is a imac g4 1.25 Ghz 17 inch flat panel running OS X 10.4.11 and can no longer view anything on the internet that uses the newest version of flash player.  I have tried to upgrade to that version but it won't work on my computer. When I try to download it I get this message "Devices with powerpc processors are no longer supported." Is there a fix for this?

You can check here:  http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/  to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS. Note that version 10,1,102,64 is the last version available to PPC Mac users*. The latest version, 10.2.152.25, 10.3.x beta, or later, is for Intel Macs only, as Adobe no longer support the PPC platform. Version 11.0.1.152 is for Lion.
    * Unhelpfully, if you want the last version for PPC Macs, you need to go here:  http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/142/tn_14266.html  and scroll down to 'Archived Versions/Older Archives'. The first one on the list, Flash Player 10.1.102.64 is the one you download. More information here:  http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/838/cpsid_83808.html
You should first uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller from here (make sure you use the correct one!):
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/909/cpsid_90906.html
and also that you follow the instructions closely, such as closing ALL applications first before installing. You must also carry out a permission repair after installing anything from Adobe.
(If you are running a PPC Mac with Flash Player 10.1.102.64 and are having problems with watching videos on FaceBook or other sites, contributor Texas Mac Man suggests the following solution which fools the site into thinking that you are running the latest version:)
Download this http://www.steelbin.com/FPforFBPPC.zip to your desktop, unzip it, and replace the current Flash Player plug-in which is in your main/Library/Internet Plug-Ins folder, (not the user Library). Save the old one just in case this one doesn't work.
    It works for me.

Is there any way for me to get my music off of my iPod? I had to get a new computer and no longer have my files, most of it is cds...

Your iPod can only be synced with one computer at a time.  If you try to sync it with a new computer/iTunes library, it will replace the contents of the iPod with whatever is in the new library. You should probably disable the autosync functionality first by going to Edit -> Preferences, clicking the Devices tab, and enabling the prevent iPods,iPhones, and iPads from automatically syncing option.
Before doing anything else,  authorize the new computer with your iTunes Account.  In iTunes, choose Store -> Authorize This Computer and enter in the correct credentials. Either copy a backup file from your old computer to your new one or create a new backup of your iPod in iTunes before letting it sync.
Then right->click on your iPod Touch from under the Devices section in the left hand pane of iTunes and choose Backup. You might also want to take a look at this article to see what it all included in the backup.
    iOS: How to back up
Now onto synced content such as music, videos, photos, etc.  For iTunes purchases you can copy them back into iTunes by choosing File -> Transfer Purchases.  For all other nonpurchased iTunes content, see this excellent user tip from another forum member turingtest2 outlining the different methods and software available to help you copy content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.
Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device
Once the backup has been made and all other synced content such as music, videos, and photos are back in your iTunes library, restore your iPod from that backup you made earlier.  Here is more on backing up and restoring your iPod.
