Is There a QuickSilver 2002 Firmware Restoration?

I use a Dual 1 GHz QuickSilver 2002, Model Identifier, PowerMac3,5.  There is no Firmware Restoration possible for my Mac, right?

Correct, but...
Does it boot into Open  Firmware with CMD+Option+o+f ?

  • How could it happen that there was a wrong FIRMWARE on the HP side?

    Hey,
I've bought a HP LaserJet Pro 200 color MFP M276nw.
I checked for a new firmware
    1.
    downloaded the latest one: M270_colorMFP_Series_FW_Update-20140718.exe
    2.
I started the exe file while working in a WiFi NETWORK
       2.1 - chose the printer
       2.2 - got a SMILE
2.3 - checked the system info: FAILED: old FIRMWARE 20121026
Printer firmware update failed, nothing happened.
    3.
I started the exe file while working in a WiFi NETWORK
       3.1 - chose the printer
and after a quarter of the installation I saw an "error 65" displayed on the printer screen
3.2 - but still got a SMILE at the end
3.3 - checked the system info: OLD FIRMWARE 20121026
Printer firmware update FAILED, nothing happened.
    4.
I started the next try with USB connection
       4.1 - chose the printer
and after a quarter of the installation I saw "BLACK printer screen"
4.2 - but at the end I still got a SMILE from the laptop Software
4.3 - checked the system info: OLD FIRMWARE 20121026
Printer firmware update FAILED, nothing happened.
    5.
Meanwhile I had searched the web for "error 65" and found a disussion 2 few weeks ago, where there was metioned that error 65 displayed on the printer screen.
There was mentioned that the downloaded firmware was wrong and that there should have been only one firmware on the website and that the latest was wrong, "20140521" should be the only one.
I started the next try with USB connection and that bigger "20140521"  exe file
       5.1 - chose the printer
5.2 - then I saw something like "programming" what sounded somehow better
5.3 - the display went again black while the app on the laptop was still running
5.4 - again there was a "programming" screen displayed
5.5 - the display went again black
5.6 - but then the printer rebooted while the app was still running .
5.7 - a few moments later the laptop firmware app was done and the SMILE came back
5.8 - checked the system info: NEW FIRMWARE
AFTER ALL IT TOOK ME MORE THAN 4 HOURS just to update that FIRMWARE.
I still don't know if that firmware is fixing my problem of backing up and restoring Printer Configurations.
I don't like the fact that it seems that I am not able to save the complete configuration or at least each configuration segment like it should be possible for the "eMail Adressbook"
There is much more work to be done inside each network configuration (Networkname, Fileprefix, Format, resolution, ...),. Therefore it would be very useful to have a backup especially if you have to exchange units .
Why isn't this backup feature available for FAX Adresses & Network Buttons?
HOW COULD IT HAPPEN THAT THERE WAS A WRONG FIRMWARE ON THE OFFICIAL HP SIDE?
HOW CAN IT BE THAT EVEN THE SUCCESSFULL FIRMWARE UPDATE PROCESS WAS THE TOTAL OPPOSITE OF something you would call smooth?
There was no message on the PC telling something about what was going on on the HP 200 printer, the programming, black displays, reboot and nothing was synchronized between the firmware app and the printer  display.
The TCO of this unit have exploded for this tiny firmware update I had done before on other equipment over 15 years.
I can't believe that the app is state of the art and that the quality assurance is on the right track if there is a wrong  firmware on HP's website.
I am really unsatisfied and still hope, that the firmware update will deliver a better success than I had the whole eveing.

    Hey,
so after 3 month nothing has been cleared.
I got several phone calls from a terribly bad german speaking support center (may be polish orign) agent , therefore I could not understand her easily and she had no technical expertise or skills. I answered all her questions.
Later I got a support eMail in german where she was speaking about an "ELIVIERUNGSTEAM"
That is an in german unknown word probably she meant "EVALUIERUNGSTEAM" which means EVALUATION TEAM.
So I got that answer from that TEAM in late December 2014  and replied after christmas.
I received an eMail that HP received my answer but nothing happened until today.
We have several devices with the same issues and I do not want to hear or read that HP tries to tell me that it is my problem. It is an problem which occured under each browser they asked me to perform the steps - chrome, firefox, ie ...
And it occures on all printers of that series and on all laptops.

  • Drive On Mac Pro Won't Open For Firmware Restoration?

    Hi--
My Mac Pro (early 2008 model, OS 10.6.8) has recently begun having problems that seem firmware-related. When put in "Sleep" mode overnight, it wakes up on its own after about two hours of sleep and remains awake.  Also, from time to time it will display the prompt window ("Do You Want To Shut Down?") for a hard (button) shutdown---without the button having been pressed. Resetting the SMC and the PRAM solves the problem for awhile, but it's becoming necessary to do that more and more frequently---at first, the problem occured about every six months, then weekly, until now I'm getting the shutdown prompt and have to reset the SMC almost every day.
Internet searches of this and other forums have indicated that a possible solution is restoring the firmware.  I have made a Firmware Restoration CD but I cannot get the machine to recognize it. That is, when I press and hold the startup button I get the "three long-three short-three-long" beeps; according to Apple's FAQ on ths subject, the optical drive door should then open and allow me to insert the Firmware Restoration disk, but that doesn't happen--the computer just goes right on with the normal startup sequence.
    Please advise.

all I can do is tell you what I've learned here-try either one of these-hold down the shift key on startup/hold down the mouse on startup/if not,  See if you can boot up in single user mode/reset NVRAM,(command option, o+F)on reboot . Failing that....pull down the optical drive door, and using a straightened extra study paperclip, find the small hole near the optical drive tray. Stick that paperclip in and the tray should open up just enough for you to grab it and put the cd in there. Maybe then, start up holding down the C key......
    just a guess though
    Good luck to you

  • G4 Quicksilver and Firmware 4.2.8

It looks like Quicksilvers don t need to be upgraded to firmaware 4.2.8
I am wondering where can I check the firmware number.
The system profiler tell me about the Boot ROM Version:4.2.5f1
But I don t know if it is the firmware.
If it is not, where can I check it?
If it is, it looks like I need to upgrade right?
    Thanks

    G4 733   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

    Hi, Michael -
There is only one firmware update for G4 QuickSilver models, and it is for those with a CD-RW optical drive. If needed, it can be downloaded from this Apple KBase article -
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=120029
Firmware updates are generally fail-safe - if one does not apply to a model, or is unneeded because the firmware is already up to date, the installer will state that and refuse to run any further.

  • Replacement fans for quicksilver 2002 933Mhz

Hello There, I love my 'new' secondhand Quicksilver 2002 but I hate the noise it makes. I have emailed a firm about getting quieter fans but they want to know what size the existing fans are - can someone tell me please? Or at least how does one measure them? - as I can open the machine and have a look. Also any recommendations? Thanks

    Hi-
    Your fans are as follows:
    Case fan 120mm x 25mm = 86 cfm 37 dba
    PSU exhaust 80mm x 25mm = 38 cfm 29 dba
    CPU intake 60mm x ??= 23 cfm 33.5 dba
As I have, just find a fan of the proper size, and necessary airflow, and replace as desired. Often times, the fans will come with 3 wires. The third, a yellow wire for speed controllers, which doesn't have to be connected. You can rewire your connectors, or use adapters, or solder directly- your choice.
The following has lots of different brands listed, for easy comparison:

Sorry about the thickness on the CPU fan- you'll have to measure it (total thickness of fan cage), or, maybe someone else will post.
I have fans by Scythe, A.C. Ryan, Aerocool, and Arctic Cooling. All nice stuff, each much quieter than the origional.

  • Quicksilver (2002) ram memory issues

    Morning all
Recently I upgrade from a Quicksilver (2001) 733 MHz PowerPC G4 with 1.5 MB of Memory to a newer & faster Quicksilver (2002) Dual 1GB PowerPC G4 512 MB of Memory and have found a few issues between the two...
I had through that I would be able to transfer my existing memory from one to the other... not so!
Can some one tell me why?

    Hi John!
Just got back from vacation from 80 to 85 degree Ft. Meyers Beach!
I was not trying to say resetting the PRAM is the same as resetting the PMU.
The following article from a Mac magazine suggests resetting the NRAM may help with this issue. I originally said to the original poster to reset the PMU but then thought some people are daunted by that task.
"If your Mac happily goes to sleep but won't wake up--Hold down the power switch to force-reboot your machine and get it running again.
Don't worry-your Mac isn't narcoleptic. Its Open Firmware system or NVRAM (nonvolatile RAM) is likely corrupt, and your Mac can't remember how to wake up.
Restart your Mac and immediately hold down the Command-Option-O-F key combo until you see a somewhat intimidating command-line display that ends with the Open Fimware prompt. Type the following line:
    reset-nvram
press the return key on your keyboard
    set-defaults
    press return
    reset-all
    press return
Your Mac will reboot. Once it's running, put it back to sleep to test. If the problem recurs your Energy Saver preferences may be the culprit. Delete the com.apple.PowerManagement.plist file (go to Finder/Hard drive/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration)--don't worry, your Mac will regenerate a new one--and then restart to see if that rights the wrong.
Still didn't work? Might be time to call AppleCare or see an Apple Genius or a technician."
Anyway, I thought someone would bring up your point, but I was to lazy that day to address it!
    Happy computing!

  • Quicksilver 2002 System Software

Is there any way to purchase original system disks for a Powermac G4 Quicksilver 2002? I can't find them anywhere, and the only way to install OS 9.2.2 on this machine is using those CDs.
    Thanks

You have to order them from Apple. Here's their phone numbers.

  • Quicksilver 2002/ Elegato eyeTV diversity

Will a dual 1Ghz Quicksilver 2002 with 1Gb SDRAM,80Gb HD,running OSX 10.4 be able to use the Elegato EyeTV diversity 2008? It does have a PCI hispeed USB card (I assume therefore USB 2.0?) but I do get error messages about a USB hub drawing too much power & being de-activated. (I think this possibly is due to the PCI card having a VIA chipset.) Any thoughts would be appreciated

I know nothing about eyeTV but if the message is too much power is being requested then I'd suggest trying the device with a powered hub if there isn't the option to power it directly.

  • Quicksilver 2002 and Tiger

I have a quicksilver 2002 Powermac G4 on 10.3.9 and I need to upgrade it. I am having a hard time figuring out what will work. Tiger? what version? or Leopard?

Tiger install DVDs are in short supply. Tiger is no longer available at the Apple Store but may be available for $129 by calling Apple Phone Sales @ 1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753). For other sources, do a Google search for MA453Z/A (10.4.6), MA190Z/A (10.4.3) and M9639Z/A (10.4) . Also look on eBay. Be sure & buy a retail version (black with silver X) and not a model specific version (gray) (See Can I use another Mac's system restore disc on my Mac? ). Expect to pay (possibly a lot) more than the Apple list price of $129.
Also check these web stores: http://www.lacomputercompany.com/cgi-bin/rpcart/index.cgi?command=dispitem&type= sku&sku=19521 http://www.allmac.com/shop/index.php?cPath=5_10003
Possible Alternative if you are currently using Panther 10.3 – Do a Google search for Tiger 10.4 Upgrade DVD . It will upgrade your 10.3 to 10.4, but it doesn’t contain the full retail Tiger installer. Should be cheaper than the retail Tiger install DVD.
After you install the base 10.4.x, update to the final Tiger version 10.4.11. Here's the link for the 10.4.11 combo update http://support.apple.com/kb/TA24901?viewlocale=en_US
Look at this link Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger Installing Software Support Page
    http://www.apple.com/support/tiger/install/
You can also download the Tiger Installation and Setup Guide
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/TigerInstall_SetupGuide.pdf
When you upgrade the OS, do it via Archive & Install. See About the Archive and Install feature http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1710
Be sure to select Preserve Users & Settings. Also, repair permissions before and after the install.
     Cheers, Tom

  • SATA Raptor HD in a Quicksilver 2002

The speed and reported reliability of the WD Raptor is hard to beat. Since installation in G4 requires a PCI adapter card and the PCI slots are only 33MHz, would a Raptor actually be able to shine in my quicksilver in terms of speed... drive reliability aside as that seems a given.
Also are there major sleep and boot reliability issues with SATA cards in an Quicksilver 2002 as in a DA?

"Since installation in G4 requires a PCI adapter card and the PCI slots are only 33MHz, would a Raptor actually be able to shine in my quicksilver in terms of speed"
If I am not mistaken, the maximum throughput on a 33MHz slot is 132MB per second. Most single hard drives can only transfer 40-50MB per second, and only go faster in very short bursts.

  • MacBookPro4,1 Won't Boot OS X/Firmware Restoration CD?

I have a MacBookPro4,1 (2.5GHz). Because the LED was cracked, I removed the hard drive, installed it in a Mac Pro, installed OS X 10.7.5, and put the hard drive back into the MacBook Pro. The computer now powers on, the grey radian starts turning, but it never boots into OS X, not will it boot into the recovery partition. It will not boot from an OS X install disk or from it's own system install DVD. It will boot into Console/Single User Mode, it will boot the AHT from the install disk, and it will boot from the ASD EFI partition--but not the ASD OS partition. If the computer is started in Safe Boot, the grey progress bar one sees during firmware updates appears, progresses 25%, hangs, then disappears, and the computer doesn't boot. While it was booted into AHT and ASD EFI, all the diagnostic tests were run and all were passed.
Do I need to restore the firmware (although there appears to be no Firmware Restoration CD for this model). I would re-install the OS but I can't get it to boot from any OS X install media.

Clearly you have to get the MBP to boot from some device, and the internal HD isn't cooperating. Unfortunately neither is the DVD, which is disturbing and indicative of some unknown problem.
That leaves FireWire Target Disk Mode - can you connect it to your Mac Pro? I know from experience that another Mac started in Target Disk Mode will appear as a bootable device using Startup Manager, so try it.
I suspect that installing OS X on a HD installed on the Mac Pro, then removing it and installing it in the MBP may not be successful. If you connect the two, then boot FireWire Target Disk Mode, you should be able to download and install OS X specifying the MPB as its target system.
Try resetting the NVRAM. It contains startup disk information so corruption may have unknown effects.
I can't find a firmware restoration CD for that model either. You may need to see a Genius.

  • MacBook 4,1 Firmware Restoration.

Here is my problem. I recently had gotten my MacBook Repaired at a certified service store. After having it repaired, my battery stopped working. Now, It didn't stop completely; The computer itself cannot recognize that there is a battery installed, but if the power cord is knocked out the computer will continue to run as if it is on battery (screen dims... ect.) Now this wouldn't be a problem is the computer would still charge the battery. Since it doesn't recognize there is a battery inside, It doesn't charge it. Once the battery is drained, It's gone for good. Ive researched problems with the computer and called Applecare. They told me to reset the Pram and SMC with no fix. I see the computer has the latest SMC update installed and I am thinking I will need to use a Firmware Restoration CD to get things back in order. My problem is there doesn't seem to be one made for my specific computer. Why all of a sudden would they just skip a generation of MacBook and leave it high and dry to suffer problems like this? Does anyone know of If they even made a Firmware Restoration CD for this model?
    Thanks in advance!

I really wish this got answered.  It's my exact issue.

  • HT201260 I'm trying to figure out which OS X version and build I need to completely reformat and then re-install the OS on my G4 Power PC (Quicksilver 2002)

So I've started my quest for the correct information and software required to completely erase and then re-install the OS on my G4 Power PC (Quicksilver 2002) roughly 2 days ago only to be stuck and very frustrated! So I could more than likely figure this out on own BUT the OS currently installed is so screwed up I cant even safe mode start it.. so I cant get the information I need from the "about this Mac" details if it were running. Is there another way to figure the correct OS X and build I'll need to reformat. I just want to return it to it's factory state and then give it to my kid. Anyone's help on this matter will be so very appreciated. Thanks

  • Remove hard drive in Quicksilver 2002?

    Hi,
I am trying to add a second internal hard drive to a dual Quicksilver 2002 ... I cannot figure out how to unclip the dual bay to add new drive. So far I have taken out the mounting screw, but it is still not budging. I have also pushed down on the left-sided plastic hinge with no luck. Does anyone know how to remove it?
Thank you for any advice. (The online manual does not match this model. The drives stack together vertically.)
    Cheers!
    Dawn

The drive bay is held by a couple of prongs in back which go in slots and a single flat-head screw in front. If you've removed the screw, which may be hidden under the wide grey cable, lift the front of the drive assembly and pull it toward you. If there's an empty drive mounting plate next to the U-shaped bracket, it is held in exactly the same way, and you can see how it works. Sometimes the bracket gets stuck after years in place and need some gentle persuasion.
