Is there a risk of overcharging?

It say 4 hours to charge but my iPod charges in about 2. If I keep charging for the 4 hours is there a risk or overcharging and damaging the battery?

You can't overcharge the iPod. You can leave it charging all night if you want

Is there a risk of setting a console connection timeout and what is the recommended setting? Please suggest if there is any best prctice documentation that can be referred.

    Hi Henrik
depend on what you need or what your security policy says for my lab gear i use 60 minutes. because i know how can access this. if you have gear outside in insecure space set it to a minimum or disable the console. everybody how can access your gear can break in. simple restart and boot w/o config. and you are in.
it realy depends how secure is your space and how much security you need.
and than the settings for policy have to match, what sec do you have if your console login and logout is secure. but when you restart you can simple break in by starting w/o config and than load it.

  • I'm getting the grey screen during start up and can't boot the computer. I did a cmnd R but worried it would automatically wipe my hard drive and reinstall OS.  Is there a risk at cmnd R will result in wiped HD without me actively making that choice?

I'm getting the grey screen during start up and can't boot the computer - MacBook Pro with lion.
I did a command r after doing some research but got nervous that it would automatically wipe my hard drive and reinstall OS.
I was nervous because it asked me for language for software use before any options were presented (such as repair via disk utility). It looked similar to an OS install. So I powered off....Is there a risk at command r will result in wiped HD without me actively making that choice?

Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions - Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
    Reinstall Mountain Lion or Mavericks
OS X Mavericks- Reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Reinstall OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is
                    three times faster than wireless.

  • Is there a risk to have my power cable connected at all times?

Is there a risk to have my power cable connected at all times?

No, I keep mine connected most of the time.  However, it's bad for the battery to stay on power literally ALL the time, so don't treat your laptop as a desktop.  If you're not going places with it often, unplug it and use it on the battery for a little while at least once or twice per month.  And every now and then, use it until the battery runs empty and the machine puts itself to sleep.

Nope. You can always reverse that if you choose.

  • Is there any risk in buying a refurbished iPod?

Buying a refurb and saving about £60 seems too good to be true. Has anyone bought a refurbished iPod and is there any risk?
    Thanks for your help.

Im sure there is a risk but its small in my opinion. refurb means it is restored to factory specs. I bought one a year back and have had no trouble. I would make sure the company you buy from is a respectable one.

  • Are there any risk if i provide my new ipad serial number to someone else?

Hi, i have a new ipad2 with full one year warranty because i haven't turn it on and connect it to ituns yet. i want to sell it from ebay and someone ask me to have the serial number. are there any risk if i provide him the serial number? ie. he can use the serial number to register with his account and start the warranty.

The warranty starts from the day you purchased it, not the day you first use it.
With the serial number the buyer will be able to verify the warranty status at the page below:
    https://selfsolve.apple.com/
In theory, he could register the device, but what would be the point?

  • New Hard Drive, is there a risk?

    Hello,
I just replaced the hard drive in my 2009 Mac Book Pro.  The stock hard drive had some kind of safety feature where if I moved the notebook suddenly, the drive would make a audible sound as it parked the drive head for safety reasons.   Now with this new drive in my computer, I do not hear this sound at all.   Does that mean that my new hard drive is less safe than the OEM one?  I would rather have less risk than more since this hard drive is my primary computer.  Still, I am not sure what I can do about this.
    Thanks for any feedback!

SMS sensor, dont worry about it one bit.
dont shake your macbook like a baby rattle regardless, before or now with the new HD.
Head crash is harder to accomplish (a good thing) now than even a few years ago.
Always always have 2 copies OFF-computer of your vital data, regardless.

    not really no.
There is NO OEM Apple HD,    Apple never made HD ,  they always recently used Hitachi and Toshiba
there are only 4 HD makers on earth.   None are Apple-specific, .......never was.

  • Are there any risks when using useMessageListener="true" for JMS Adapter?

As far as I heard there are some risks when using
    useMessageListener="true"
(instead of "false"). Is this true?
Or does the Partnerlink to JMS adapter became unstable?
When exactly is it recommended to use "true" instead of "false"?
    Peter

    Hi Peter,
What version are you using : 10.1.2 or 10.1.3 ? By default in 10.1.3 the JMS wizard sets the useMessageListener to False . I would recommned to keep it to this value unless there is a strong reason to change otherwise.

  • Are there any risks to extending my wifi with a retired (1st Gen) Time Capsule?

I just replaced the Time Capsule as the hub of my wifi network. The only problem with the old TC (1st Generation I think) is that it didn't have enough storage, so it could be used again.  I can either sell it (not sure if there is a market for it), or I can use it to extend the network.  I already have an Airport Express extending the network at one end of my house.
Is there any downside to setting up the old TC to extend the network at the other end of the house?
Does the performance or throughput go down?
    Thanks,

    Bob,
Thanks for getting back to me.  I do appreciate it.
So does this mean that the Airport Express that I use for iTunes, my AppleTV, my wireless HP printer and the Wifi interface to my DirecTV receiver are all causing a degradation in wireless performance?  I have noticed some performance issues, where I normally use my MB Pro, but I always thought that was a location problem.  We haven't had any problems with the AppleTV, and that's probably where the highest bandwidth requirements are.
I might be able to wire some or all of the devices, but it would be difficult, and it would probably mean buying some sort of Ethernet switch for one location.  The AppleTV, Airport Express and DirecTV are all in the same spot. We don't use the printer very often.

  • Is there any risk to video cards when connecting TVs to iMacs via HDMI cables?

Just want to know the risks before I do any damage.

So I assume that if we buy our adapter from an Apple store, then it is the proper one?  I have a Moshi adapter.

  • Nvidia 8600 - is there a risk of buying MPB 2.4?

I have a good offer to buy used MPB 2.4 (MacBookPro 3,1) produced at week 23 of 2007. I know it has potentially risky GPU chip 8600. A friend of mine who was using this machine less than two years never run games, he never yet experienced death screen. He used MPB basically for Lightroom, FCP and Photoshop. Same do I.
I know it's maybe risky to buy such machine especially keeping in mind that 2 years of replacement-for-free will end somewhere in this summer, anyway I have few questions:
    1. Does all this situation with faulty NVIDIA chip mean that GPU will fail one day, anyway, earlier or sooner? Is this fail permanent, or rather spontaneous and depends on temporary heating = intensive tasks?
    2. Does it definitely related on gaming, which use GPU, or not? Does Adobe applications or Apple's Pro apps use GPU as much intensively as games?
    3. Does fans setting to turn earlier helps to prevent overheating?
    Thank you.

You can't overcharge the iPod. You can leave it charging all night if you want

  • 5 Computers Authorized is there a risk of Deauthorizing them?

Obviously many people are wondering how to deauthorize a computer when you have reached the limit of five my dad just got his first i pod and he was trying to authorize his computer so we could do the home sharing but it said we had reached our limit. I am wondering if we deauthorize all the computers whether both my sisters, my mom, my dads, and my music will not disapear since they are on 4 different computers, but all on the same account. So that all we would have to do is reauthorize all the right computers and each of our music would still be there.
    Thanks JGE

    Hello there,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
In this case, yes, using the "Deauthorize all" option in iTunes is the way to go. Keep in mind however, that using this option does not deauthorize any computers, but instead resets the count of the number of computers you do have authorized under that iTunes account you authorizing or deauthorizing.
Also keep in mind that you can only use this option once a year or every 12 months.
Here is more information on authorization and deauthorization in iTunes if need be.
