I am trying to change an AppleWorks drawing file into a Pages file. Appleworks has a ruler at the top and on the left side. I only see a ruler at the top in Pages.

For the iPad this is correct. And on iPod/iPhone there is none, you can only temporary show the ruler, but as soon as you start editing, it will be gone.

The laptop's too far away from the router to be connected by ethernet. It's all wifi.
No separate server app on the laptop, it's all samba
The files are on a windows laptop and a hard drive hooked up to the windows laptop. The windows share server is pants, so I'd need some sort of third party server running. Maybe you weren't suggesting to use Samba to connect to the windows share though?
I'm glad that you've all understood my ramblings and taken and interest, thanks The way I see it, I can't be the only netbook user these days looking for this kind of convenience, and I certainly won't be once chrome and moblin hit the market.

Grey= parent/container (Width of both orange and red div)
Orange= Div 1
Red= Smaller div- centralised (hopefully)

If you wanted to go completely "Not for IE8 or lower" and use some of the often overlooked viewport units, it could be very responsive to browser resizing...

Go step by step and test.
1. System Preference > Sound > Output > Internal Speakers
    Highlight Internal Speakers / Headphones
    Make sure that Mute is not enabled.
2.Plug in and remove the headphone.
    If you see red light in the headphone port, plug the headphone
    in and out of the port 5 or 6 times to flip the microswitch inside.
    Sound output may be stuck in the digital mode.
3. Reset PRAM. http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4405
4. Reset SMC.     http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    Choose the method for:
    "Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".
5. Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup
    Audio Devices window
    Side Bar
    Click the Built-in Output.
    Under Mute any of the boxes checked? If so, uncheck it.

Working outside the slide boundaries... how do I see the left side?

I want to have some objects slide in from the right side of the slide, and exit again later on the left side - and I want to be able to move them back again later.
I can see the right outside boundary of the slide, but not the left - how can I do this? - It seems that the rulers always crop to left and top of the slide.... is there a way to change this?

Bizarrely enough, the slide is pinned to the top left corner, and one cannot see blank off-slide space to the top and left.
The workaround is to attach a transparent "handle" to the object -- create a long rectangle, make it transparent, group it with the object, and then you can use the "handle" to move the object off-slide.

There is that option in Mail > select the show option towards the top toolbar on the left.
I have never seen that option in iCal.

When looking at my "About This Mac" it says that I have 60gb of space left on my hard drive, but when I go into finder to find all of these files there is not 300gb worth in anything I search, even searching, "All files on the Mac". Help!?

It says I have over 150 gigs of video on my hard drive. But I have gone through and deleted almost all of what shows up, still it says there is roughly the same amount on the hard drive. Where are these files? I want to delete them so I can have my hard drive clear.

Hi - I'm not only having trouble waking up my MBP from sleep and having to restart repeatedly which is a pain in itself, but now when it restarted, I have these black boxes surrounding things, e.g., there is a black box around the red "close" button on the upper left corner of this page. There is also an oblong resizable black box sitting on top of anything. The content changes depending on the actions I take. Right now it says, "You are currently on a close button. To click this button, which closes the current window, press Control-Option-Space." Right now I'm open in Firefox, but it doesn't matter if only Finder is open, it's still there. I've tried closing all my applications and restarting and I also reset the PRAM. It won't go away. It's probably something simple, but I don't know how to get rid of it. Any suggestions are welcome.

Thanks so much. I saw this on "desktop strangeness" immediately after I posted and tried to retract my question. It worked perfectly. I'm not sure how VoiceOver got turned on unless something happened when I was trying to wake up the computer. I open the lid and it flashes whatever is open and then the screen goes black and I can't wake it up. Still looking for the resolution to this.

My wifi network connection is not working, will read "unable to join". Am able to access as a guest. When I hit the blue arrow on the right hand side of my network there is no information e.g ip address, subnet mask, etc. This info is in my guest area.

My network has not been working today. When I click on it it says "unable to access nhe network". My guest network will work. I have unplugged and replugged my router and turned my Wifi button of and off, started and restarted my Ipod as per internet suggestions. Would anyone know how to get my network reactivated. I am nervous to hit reset network settings in case I lose all my music and icons, etc. added since I got my Ipod. Thank you for any assistance

What encryption/security is the router using?
Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost

Not on my document. I have a 7 page document open. The "flashing vertical bar" is at the top of page 3. I have the thumbnail view showing. I click page break and two blank pages are added to the end of my document. I have to scrool thru the pages to see that the 2 pages were added as they do not appear in the layout view... I'm not sure if it is inserting a "section" as it adds two blank pages.. But I am clicking on "INSERT PAGE BREAK".. So guess there are still a lot of bugs to fix..

I want to print iCal with Mondays in the left hand side column. My calendar prints with Tuesday in the left hand column even though it displays Mondays in the left hand column when in normal use.
