Is there a scaled down version of Illustrator?

Is there a scaled down version of Illustrator similar to Elements for Photoshop? I'd like to be able to get a scaled down version of the software because I'm not a serious designer, so I wouldn't use most of the more complex functions.

No. You can always use the free Inkscape or tools from other vendors.

  • Scaling Down images in Illustrator

    I scaled down original images into a file in an illustrator file but the pictures are still the original HUGE picture size. When I scale it down or save the file as a pdf is there anyway to get the size down proportional to the scaled down version? This is going to press so I can't reduce the quality.

    Look at the preferences for pdf export, I believe it is under the edit menu. You can set the image reduction there. If necessary, create a new preset with the options you prefer, but one of the pdf-x options should work. (I never tired the pdf-x presets, so I am assuming it would be right).

  • Is CS6 after effects full version or scaled down version?

    @

    CS6 is a full version, there are no scaled down versions. CC and CC14 added new features. You can't get new features in an old version with any software.

  • Scaled down version of Adobe After Effects

    Hello,
    I was wondering if there is a scaled down version of Adobe After Effects that is compatible with Final Cut Express 4 (under $200 USD). Or is buying/downloading various FX plug ins my only option? I'm just getting started in FCE4 so I don't really know what is available in the current market. If anyone can direct me to a good resource I would appreciate it.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Is there a way to have a VBScript run in a particular version of Illustrator?

    Hey, everyone.  First time posting here, but ran into an issue I can't resolve.
    I'm trying to script for CS4 of Illustrator on a Win 8 system, but when I try to run a VBScript in CS4, it automatically opens CS6 and executes the script there.  Is there a way to get the script to execute in CS4 instead of CS6?
    Thanks for the help.

    this will open the most recent version
    CreateObject("Illustrator.Application")
    use this for CS4
    CreateObject("Illustrator.Application.5")

  • Is there a Tool or function (in Illustrator or InDesign) that selects any shape and "punches" a "hole" of that shape all the way down through multiple objects to the paper or artboard?

    In Illustrator, group the objects that you want to punch through, and use the transparency pallet.

    Sophie,
    CS6 should work on 10.6.8,
    System requirements | Illustrator
    and you should be able to download the trial here:

    Really need to be able to save back to the older versions, in order to output vector files on an older plotter. Running an older application of Mac sign from Softeam, can't get in touch with them. Total pain to upgrade, been dumbing down for too many years.

  • Previous version had save all tabs before shutting down,which helped a lot if u open same windows always,but this is not there in the latest version I have upgraded recently.Request you to guide me if this can be accommodated in the new version.

    Firefox now always stores the old session which you can access by going to the History menu and selecting "Restore Previous Session".
    If you always open the last set of tabs, an alternative approach is this:
    # Click the orange Firefox button, then select options to open the options window
    # Go to the General panel
    # Change the setting "When Firefox starts" to "Show my windows and tabs from last time"

  • Is there a way to restrict handles when snapping like older versions of illustrator?

    In previous versions of illustrator, when you snapped to grid the handles would snap as well. This made making complicated precise line work easier and faster. I noticed in the October update that the removal of this function is being touted as an upgrade/feature??
    "When snapping is turned on, your anchor points and handles (direction lines) align to your choice of pixel, grid, or point. However, handles snapping to the grid restricts the freedom with which you draw. In the 2014 release of Illustrator CC, whatever you choose to snap to, handles are completely unrestricted. When handles are not subject to being snapped to a grid, you have much finer control over drawing and editing workflows."
    ...that handle restriction was actually very, very useful to me. Any way to get that back/toggle it on and off? Without having to downgrade to older versions of illustrator?
    Thanks for any help you can provide!

    The answer is not yet. Most people are hoping that the engineers will introduce a toggle to return the old behavior as an option but don't hold your breath. If you absolutely need it you will have to revert to an earlier version.

  • Firefox is scaling down the photo sizes, along with chrome and internet explorer but Firefox's photos are usually smaller

    I sell products on a site, along with other sellers, that is owned by someone else.
    We have many sellers there. Some of us are having problems with how we are able to view the size of our photos taken of our products that are up for sale.
    From seller to seller, we have different versions of Firefox that we are using. I have the newest Firefox, which I believe is 4.
    I was having, like others who use 4, the same problem seeing smaller photos before I did the upgrade as well.
    It seems to be the case for most of us who are having the problem, that Firefox photos scale down smaller than Internet Explorer and Chrome.
    We have been told that this may be a browser issue as the site owners say they have not made any changes. At this point we are unsure since there are so many variations from seller to seller (keep in mind that some sellers are not seeing the photos scale down through their computer).
    We have asked the site owners to look into this problem further. I also wanted to see what the Firefox community had to say. Do you think it may be a browser issue? We would greatly appreciate your input.
    Below are some examples of photos that have been scaled down for the sellers who are seeing a problem with smaller photos while both in Firefox; all using different versions of Firefox:
    One photo that was originally the size of 419px by 1, 007px is being seen by one seller to a scaled down size of 81px by 64px.
    Another seller is viewing this same photo scaled down to 163px by 329px.
    Another seller is able to view this photo as the original size it was intended to be, which is 419px by 1, 007px.
    The above scenario has been the worst scaled down size we have heard of so far.
    Typically a photo that is the size of 1, 000px by 930px has been scaled down to 420px by 391px.
    There are other examples as to size, but you can see that the photos have been scaled down quite a bit.
    You can see that it has been scaled down to less than half of the original size. This can pose a real problem for us depending on the type of product that is being photographed.
    Thank you!!

    Thank you!!

  • A graphic created in an earlier version of Illustrator is being distorted when I copy it in CS6

    Please help ... it is bizarre
    I have attached a file showing the logo before copying then after.
    As soon as I try to edit the "before" then it too gets distorted.
    But even the undistorted version has not replicated the yellow around the "Pente14" correctly.  Any ideas?

    LeBarroux,
    I opened the file in good old 10, with some objects being reinterpreted, where the artwork consisted of a great number of simple paths and a few compound paths. My guess is that some brushed paths have been expanded.
    It looks as if the spike is made with a brushed path having a corner Anchor Point at the top.
    In any case, I deleted part of the image to concentrate on the spike in front of the cyan rectangle, and then I scaled down to 1:10 in two step ending with 1:100, scaled up again 100:1, to be able to compare directly.
    Apart from very small changes in thickness of some very thin paths, owing to inaccuracies of scaling, the before and after were practically identical, every small bit being there.
    To rule out any issues with brushed paths disliking corner Anchor Points (which cause other problems), I tried to scale a brushed path down by 1:100 and up again by 100:1, and it showed the same result.
    So it seems that something strange is happening in your CS6 (which is why I keep pestering you with the AtG).
    Just to rule out an impossibility: does the same happen if you expand the brushed path(s)?
    Other (im)possibilities may be some preference corruption or interference from other applications, see below.
    Is it an option to scale down in the earlier version?
    If no other solution appears, you may try the following (you may effectively have tried/done some of them already) and see whether it helps:
    1) Close down Illy and open again;
    2) Restart the computer;
    3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (irreversible);
    4) Move the folder with Illy closed (reversible);
    5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options; see especially the usual suspects in Item 7;
    Even more seriously, you may:
    6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool, and reinstall.

  • Maintain PDF layering when opening in older version of Illustrator?

    As the title explains, I was wondering if it may be possible to avoid data loss upon opening a PDF in an older version of Illustrator. I have a client who is still using CS5, and needs to have editable PDF files that maintain their hierarchy.
    Currently standing, I get the "This file was generated by a newer version of Illustrator" error, which flattens the artwork into a single layer. Is there a workaround for this, or am I out of luck?
    Thank you in advanced for your help.

    Have you tried saving as CS5. There's a drop-down menu for choosing a version. It will still flatten some things that are not available in the older version, but you may have better luck keeping the layers intact that way.

  • How can I open a CS4 file in the current version of Illustrator?

    I am collaborating with a friend on a project. He has CS4 and can't/won't upgrade.
    I was able to send him a file I created in the current version of Illustrator, and he was able to open it (I don't know how successfully, but it opened).
    He then saved it with a new name.ai and sent it back to me. When I open it, Illustrator thinks it's a photoshop file. It's able to open it ok, but it's rasterized, and is lacking a lot of details. So, even when I use Image Trace to get the pieces back, little shapes, like the tongue in an animal's mouth, are missing. And all of the individual pieces that make the Illustrator file so easy to tweak are lacking.
    Is there a trick to making this work, on my side or on his? I already tried searching via google and didn't find anything that looked helpful.
    Last resort may be to get him to just install the 30 day trial of the current version so we can get this project done.
    Thanks for any ideas!

    Having his install the trial is the way to go. Working between AI versions is a pain and as you are finding out almost impossible with 5 versions between the collaborators.

    I have files that may have been created in various versions of Illustrator. We need to be able to open them, but all we have is CS6 suite. I have called and been told that "technicians at adobe" could perform a paid service to find out what the files were created in and get them to be useable in InDesign 6, but I'd need an email address that was registered to our software to give the help desk person. After finding the correct email address, different adobe help number people told me to come here to ask as there is no phone support. Can anyone get me to an adobe technician that can provide a price quote for finding out what created these files and for getting them converted? Thanks.

    Sorry, I understood you to say you had the whole CS6 suite, which includes Illustrator.
    As far as finding out what the files are, sometimes you can look at them in a text editor to figure this out. See below; the, Creator Tool line. Not every software package makes it this easy, though.
